Full Day of Family

The kids were up early, and I got them moving starting about 7:30 to get dressed and have breakfast. We rolled out around 8:15, and I took them over to Ama and Agu's, where I dropped them off and headed out for a bike ride. The kids apparently had a good morning, and played inside and watched TV.

I showed up to pick them up around noon, and they'd had lunch but hadn't had their dessert yet. They were watching an episode of Cosmos, and we stayed until the end and they'd had their Jell-O. On the way home we stopped to pick up Bud's new eyeglasses, and then made it home around 1:00.

I showered and had a quick lunch, and then we headed over to Cousin C's place. The kids had a great time playing together all afternoon, and I hung out with Uncle C, and later Aunt O who arrived home from a conference. I herded the kids out at about 4:30, as they were starting to get hungry. We headed home, had some dinner, and then played video games until M-lady arrived home.

I got the kids going on snack time at about 7:45, and then headed out to run some quick errands. M-lady saw them through snack and showers, and when I got home at about 9:00 Buster was tucked in and Bud was playing on his iPad a little. I said goodnight to the kids before running out for another errand.

The End Of Camp

M-lady is off at BlogHer for a couple of days, so I got the kids ready on my own this morning. They were up by 7:30, playing in the living room. Bud had gotten himself dressed and had breakfast, and Buster had done neither when I got up around 8:00. I got Buster going, and we headed out the door on time to get the kids to their morning camp.

The kids had a good day, and finished up the last week of sports camp and swim lessons. I got home around 5:30, and when I asked the kids how the day had gone I got 'Awesome!' and 'Great!' but no details. I'll have to dig a little more tomorrow.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and did movie night sans M-lady. The kids were pretty good about agreeing on a movie, although Buster didn't eat until we were watching the specials. I think he wanted to be able to make a quick getaway if anything scary popped up, but ended up enjoying the movie from the far side of the couch.

We watched the movie and specials until snack time, then did the standard snack and bedtime. The kids seemed pretty tired, and dropped off quickly when I turned out the lights.

Buster was a little slow getting up this morning again, but M-lady and I roused him and we got out the door in time. I took the kids to sports camp again, where one of the coaches asked if the kids played baseball, since I guess they'd done very well the day before. Bud got a compliment on his throwing arm, and Buster on his speed.

Sports camp was soccer today, so the kids were prepared and looking forward to the day. They had a good time, and then did their swim lesson in the afternoon. I got home around 5:30, and M-lady a few minutes later. I was able to snooze for a few minutes, and M-lady got dinner together. After dinner, we cleaned up, and Bud headed outside to play some basketball. Buster hung out with us a little bit, and headed outside for a short time as well.

We did snack and bedtime, and got Buster into bed a little earlier than usual, since he's been slow to get up the past couple of mornings. Bud and I watched a video on the iPad before turning the light out around 9:30.

More Camp, More Sports

The kids were up fairly early this morning, and were in and out of our bed a bit. We got up a bit after 8:00, and realized we needed to hurry a bit to get the kids off to their new Sports Camp this morning. M-lady got them breakfast while I dressed, and then I got them sunscreened before taking them off to their new multi-sport camp. The dropoff went fine, and I headed off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They played 'baseball' today, although it sounds like they mostly worked on drills rather than actually playing a game. Nanny J picked them up at noon, they had some lunch, and then headed off to their swim lesson. They must have been pretty tired puppies when they got home mid-afternoon.

I got home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J after I had dropped my stuff. I lay myself down, as my neck was bugging me, and the kids came to chat for a bit. M-lady arrived home a few minutes later, and we caught up before heading downstairs to get dinner ready at about 6:30. M-lady did quick piano practices with the kids while dinner was cooking.

The kids ate pretty well, and I played on the Xbox with Buster for a little while after dinner and before snack time. The kids had showered after swimming, so getting ready for bed was a quick process. I watched some videos with Bud on the iPad before we turned out the light at about 9:30.

New Balls

The kids were up fairly early, and jumped into bed with us, bringing lots of stuffed animals. That game lasted for a while, but the kids eventually left us alone and headed downstairs to get themselves some breakfast. M-lady was up around 9:00ish, and I rolled out of bed around 9:45.

After getting some breakfast for myself, I took the kids to the local sporting goods store to pick up some new basketballs. The kids have been playing out back with soccer balls, mini basketballs, and anything else they could find. We picked up a bunch of proper-sized basketballs, for both kids and Cousin C, at our place and at Ama and Agu's. The kids were pretty excited.

We swung by Target on the way home, where the kids spent their accumulated allowance, and then got home around 12:30. M-lady was still out running her errands, but arrived home shortly and we all had some lunch together. After lunch, I played with the kids for a bit, and M-lady took a nap.

I set up some older iPhones for the kids to use as cameras for an upcoming trip, and they were largely stripped down except for a few photo and video apps. The kids played with those for a bit this afternoon, in particular creating some stop-motion animation videos.

At about 4:30 we headed over to Ama and Agu's for dinner, where the kids played basketball in the backyard with Cousin C with their new basketballs. We had a nice dinner and dessert, and headed home around 7:45. We started snack time when we got home, and then the kids got themselves cleaned up. I played on the iPad with Buster for a little while before we turned the lights out around 9:00.

Day Guest

The kids were up fairly early again this morning, and M-lady got up to make them pancakes and hot chocolate for breakfast. They let me sleep in until about 9:30, and I was up a few minutes later. M-lady ran a quick errand in the morning, and I got some things ready with the kids before M-lady returned at about 11:00.

A short time later, Cousin C was dropped off to hang out for the day. The kids gathered up their library books, and all three headed out with M-lady to the library, and lunch afterward, while I headed out to run some of my own errands. The kids and M-lady apparently had a good time, got lots of books, and came home after lunch, where the kids played all afternoon.

I got home around 2:30, and M-lady headed out to run more errands a bit after 3:00. At about 4:00, I got the kids started on a movie to settle them down a little bit, and they chilled out watching the movie until M-lady arrived home. Aunt O and Uncle C were back a bit later, and we all had dinner together a bit after 6:00.

At about 7:30, our guests took their leave, and the kids played on Xbox and iPads until snack time at about 8:00. After snack, the kids showered, and I watched some videos on the iPad with Bud until we turned the light out at about 9:30.

Eye Doc Appt

M-lady stayed home with the kids this morning, and I headed out to work before Nanny J arrived. The kids came in to say Hello this morning, but generally entertained themselves.

Mid-morning, M-lady took Bud to the optometrist, as recommended by our GP at Bud's last checkup. Bud did the standard eye exam (except for the glaucoma test), and got fitted for glasses, since he seems to be a bit near-sighted. He didn't seem too upset about it: I think the novelty is still in effect. He almost walked out of the office wearing the demo frames he'd picked out. His glasses will arrived in a couple of weeks.

M-lady headed off to work for the afternoon, but came back to relieve Nanny J. The kids had a good time at swim camp again, and M-lady set up movie night with them: the kids opted to watch The Lego Movie with the commentary track. I got home around 7:30 and joined them.

We turned off the movie around 8:30 and had a snack, and the kids got themselves ready for bed. They've been doing much better with that recently, which is nice. I played on the iPad with Buster until lights out, and we had a good time together. We both fell asleep pretty quickly.

Entertaining Each Other

The kids were up around the same time as M-lady, who had to head to work a little early. Buster came and snuggled with me for a few minutes before I got up, and the kids were just about to get some breakfast when Nanny J arrived and I headed off to work myself.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They were having a sword battle when I arrived home at about 6:00, and M-lady was snoozing upstairs. I joined her, and the kids continued with their sword battle (against each other, and various imagined foes) for the next hour or so. I got dinner together at about 7:00, and we all ate together.

After dinner, Buster and I spent a little bit of time building Lego, while Bud played some basketball outside. Snack time came up pretty quickly, and the kids opted to take showers again (they'd showered after swim lessons in the afternoon) since they'd worked up a sweat while fencing. I played on the iPad with Bud for a bit before bedtime, and we turned out the light around 9:30.

Helping Me Out

I headed out for work a little early this morning: Buster was still asleep, and Bud was in bed, although awake and reading. Bud got up and got himself some breakfast, and Nanny J got Buster some breakfast after M-lady prodded him awake. M-lady headed for work after Nanny J arrived.

The kids had their swim lessons today, but otherwise hung out at home. M-lady assigned some simple reading homework for them: Bud had mostly finished his before she left for work. I got home around 5:30, and M-lady a few minutes later. We snuggled in bed for a little while after Nanny J had left, and then M-lady did piano with the kids.

Buster hadn't done his reading, so he tackled that before dinner. The kids ate pretty well at dinner, and afterward Buster insisted on helping me with my campaign of The Lego Movie Video Game. We did that together for a bit, then watched a few minutes of the Tour before snack time.

M-lady stepped out to run some errands while we were gaming, and got back as snack time was winding up. The kids mostly got themselves ready for bed, and I played on the iPad with Buster until we turned off the lights at about 9:00.

Swim Focus

Buster was up around his usual time, well before 8:00, but Bud slept in a little bit, not getting up until almost 8:30. I got some breakfast with the kids, and then M-lady took them over to Ama and Agu's place while I headed off to work.

The kids got a surprise at Ama and Agu's, and found that they'd gotten a small basketball hoop for their backyard. I believe the kids played on that for most of the morning. They had lunch at Ama and Agu's, and then Nanny J picked them up to take them to their swim lessons in the early afternoon.

Buster napped again in the afternoon: he's the only one in his class, so he gets the undivided attention of an instructor, and has been tiring himself out in his lessons. He was up by the time I got home around 5:30, though.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and M-lady arrived home a short time later. We lazed around for a few minutes, and then got some dinner together. After dinner, we all watched the conclusion of The Lego Movie before we watched some specials, and then started the snack and bedtime routine. The kids have gotten to stay up a bit later during their vacation, so Bud and I turned out his light close to 9:30.

Big Birthday Weekend

Just wrapping up the end of the week and the weekend in a big post. My good Friend, Uncle R, was in town, and most of the weekend was spent celebrating my 40th birthday. Overall, it was a great weekend, and the kids got to do some pretty fun things, too.

On Friday, M-lady took the kids to soccer after I helped get them into their shin guards and cleats. After sending them off, Uncle R and I did the grocery shopping for the weekend, and I had a couple of phone calls for work. The kids got home around noon, and we had some lunch before Uncle R and I took off for a movie. The kids had a pleasant afternoon with Nanny J.

When M-lady got home, she and the kids got all packed up and headed over to Ama and Agu's for a sleepover, while I met some friends for dinner and later gaming back at our house. Aunt O and Cousin C met them over at Ama and Agu's as well, and they had a fun dinner and movie night before getting to spend the night there.

I headed out really early with friends on Saturday to go waterskiing. M-lady and the kids spent the morning with Ama and Agu as well, having breakfast and lunch there before getting home in the early afternoon. Most of the rest of the afternoon was spent getting ready for the party in the evening, and the kids helped pick things up around the house and put away the game of Arkham Horror that Uncle R, Bud, and I had been playing over the past couple of days. Buster apparently took a long nap in the later afternoon, but didn't seem any worse for wear once we managed to rouse him: he may just have not slept as well at Ama and Agu's.

The waterskiing expedition returned at about 6:00pm, just as the party was starting. Another good friend from out of town had joined us for waterskiing, Uncle C, and he hung out with the kids a bit. Friends Av and An were also on hand, and played a bit with Bud and Buster. The kids ran around, played outside and inside, and ate solid meals. They got to stay up a little late, have cupcakes which M-lady had made for my birthday, and eventually were put to bed by Ama before Ama and Agu took their leave. The party wrapped up pretty late, and Uncle R and Uncle C were staying with us, Uncle C on the couch in the playroom.

The next morning, Sunday, I requested the kids tread lightly downstairs, as we had guests. I think everyone was up and in good spirits when I got downstairs at about 8:30, though, and we had a pleasant morning hanging out together. The World Cup finals game came on around noon, and I took Uncle R to the airport shortly thereafter.

Uncle C hung out with us for pizza and the game, and then rolled out in the later afternoon to make one more visit with other friends before heading to the airport. We had a mellow afternoon, and M-lady headed out to do some shopping. When she got back, we all headed over to REI to pick up some items, and the kids were really patient while we looked for backpacks and shoes. The kids got to pick out some biners as well, which they were happy with. We left at closing time, and picked up Jamba Juice for dinner before heading home.

At home, we all watched a bit of The Lego Movie before having a quick snack and getting ready for bed. The kids are pretty good about doing most of the getting ready routine themselves, now, and I watched some videos with Bud on the iPad before we turned out the lights at about 9:30.

Thursday, July 10, 2014

The kids were up around 7:00, and they fed themselves both. I helped the kids into shin guards and cleats, got them sunscreened, and took them to soccer camp.

They had a good time at camp. Uncle R was home while I was at work from about 11:00 to 1:00, so he was there when the kids got home. Buster checked to see if he wanted to play, but didn't bother him too much. The kids had lunch, and I was home around 1:30, at which point Uncle R and I went out for the afternoon.

The kids seem to have had a good afternoon, but were fairly excited when we got back. After a bit of discussion, we all sat down to play some board games. We started with Junior Catan, which Bud opted out of, and then started a game of Arkham Horror, which Buster skipped. Bud, Uncle R, and I played that until we took a break for dinner, and then played a bit more after dinner, and then a bit more after snack time. We didn't finish the game before Bud had to head for bed, but we got a good ways through it.

Buster got ready for bed and hung out with an iPad for a bit, but realized when he was getting tired and headed upstairs to bed, where he cuddled with M-lady for a few minutes before turning it. Bud played with us until bedtime, and then headed straight to bed.

Long Weekend Visitor

The kids were up fairly early again, and Bud got breakfast for himself while Buster waited to have M-lady help him. I got the kids ready to go to soccer camp, and M-lady took them.

I headed off to work, and then picked up Uncle R, a friend of mine visiting from out of town. We grabbed some lunch on the way home, and arrived a bit after 2:00. The kids were excited to see us, and we watched the World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands together until M-lady arrived home.

I left Uncle R with the kids and M-lady at about 6:00, and headed out to race my bike at the track. Apparently they had some dinner, and had an epic Nerf Gun battle together before Uncle R turned in a bit early, tired out from traveling. I got home as Bud was about to turn out the light, so I got to say goodnight to him. The kids were apparently very well behaved, and enjoyed playing with Uncle R while I was out.

Up Early

The kids are still adjusting from East Coast time, I think. They were up before 6:00 this morning. Buster crawled into bed with us for a little while, then the kids got themselves dressed and breakfasted. I had to go downstairs at 7:00 because Bud was playing basketball in the backyard: I had to tell him to stop so he didn't wake the neighbors. I wasn't clear on when he could start again, though, and he was back out there at 7:30. I clarified that he probably should wait until after 9:00am for basketball.

I got myself up around 8:00, got myself together, and got the kids into shin guards, cleats, and sunscreen before taking them to their camp. M-lady stayed home again today: she is feeling better, but not entirely recovered yet. Nanny J picked up the boys from camp, and brought them home for lunch. Both kids showered after lunch, and apparently played inside for the afternoon.

I got home just before 6:00, and found the kids and M-lady reading on the couch. After I dropped my stuff, I built Lego with Buster for a little while before we got started on dinner. The kids ate well, and after dinner I played a little bit of Xbox with Buster.

Snack was straightforward, and I read a story with Buster and watched a little Mythbusters before we turned the light out around 8:30. He fell asleep really quickly.

The Next Camp

The kids were up pretty early this morning, but generally entertained each other with 'unstructured play time' and let M-lady and I sleep in a little bit. The kids got themselves dressed, and I got up around 8:00 and started getting the breakfast. After breakfast, I helped them with shin guards and cleats, got them sunscreened, and took them off to soccer camp for the morning.

The kids apparently had a good time, and Nanny J picked them up before lunch. They spent the afternoon playing together at home. M-lady had stayed home today, still a bit under the weather, and the kids were generally good about leaving her alone.

I got home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later. Both kids had showered after soccer camp, but Bud headed out to shoot some baskets while I got dinner together. Ama and Agu dropped by right before dinner was ready, and it was nice to chat with them for a few minutes.

The kids ate a good dinner, and we started on the Lego set they picked out for me for my birthday. They were fairly patient while I had a call with Grandma W, and we got a chance to build together after that for a few minutes before snack time.

The kids each had a little root beer float for snack, and then we did a fairly usual bedtime routine. M-lady helped get Buster into bed, and I hung out with Bud. We managed to successfully program his Blinky Grid from an iPad, watched a few videos, and turned out the light a little after 9:00.

Back From Vacation

Last Saturday, we all got up really early and headed to the airport to visit my family out in the midwest. I won't go over the entire trip in detail, but we had a great time. The kids were fantastic while traveling, and enjoyed unlimited iPad time on the planes (while M-lady and I mostly slept). We visited with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, as well as Aunt RuggerMom and Cousins H, V, and B. Later in the week, Great Grandma I and Great Aunt B arrived, who the kids had never met before. The cousins played with each other much better than even last year: Bud and Cousin H didn't have any significant contentions during the week.

Highlights of the week and visit included a two-day trip to a nearby water park which the kids loved (and got them some more water time before swim lessons in a few weeks), Bud and Cousin H learned to solder and Bud completed a little Blinky Grid project, we built a model trebuchet and then a good-sized one, fireflies, and evening fireworks on the 4th. We headed out very early on the morning of Saturday the 5th, and had a fairly uneventful trip back home.

M-lady managed to get a little sick on the last day, and was pretty knocked out for the weekend after we got back home. I looked after the kids, and we had a mostly recovery-style weekend. Today, the kids were up pretty early, and after getting them breakfast we went to Toys 'R Us so the kids could spend their allowance. They each picked up a Nerf gun, Bud got a smaller second Nerf gun, and Buster got some Lego. We headed over to Ama and Agu's after that, and the kids spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon there while I took a bike ride, and M-lady continued to sleep and try to get better.

I picked the kids up around 2:30, and we hit the grocery store before coming home. We had a fairly mellow remainder to the afternoon, and I put dinner together around 6:00. After dinner, the kids and I played a little bit of Rock Band together before snack time, and the first fairly standard bedtime routine in a week.
