Most Successful Trick or Treating Yet

The kids were excited about today being Halloween, and we did a pretty normal morning. Buster was going to wear his costume at school this morning, so we got that packed up for him. M-lady took the boys to school, and got some cute pictures of Buster's class.

The kids went to TKD in the afternoon, where Buster again wore his costume. Apparently TKD was mostly games, costumes, and trick-or-treating today. Nanny J took the kids directly from TKD over to Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C's house, where M-lady and I met them, and Nanny J took her leave.

I arrived around 5:15, and the kids were bouncing off the walls. We had some dinner and waited for it to get a little darker out, and then got the kids suited up and headed out. We met up with a number of other neighborhood kids, and all did the rounds together.

The block next to Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C's house was very into the spirit of the holiday. Most of the houses were decorated elaborately, and a number of people were hanging out outside, greeting trick or treaters and hanging out. The weather was beautiful, which made the outdoor gatherings more comfortable. Kids were running amok everywhere, and we kept tabs on ours.

The kids had a great time, and made quite the haul. Buster tripped once running in the dark, but popped right back up, picked up his spilled candy, and moved on to the next door. We made it back after about 45-60 minutes, let the kids play for a few minutes more and have a piece of candy, and then said our goodnights and headed home.

Buster and I arrived home first, just before 8:00, and Buster immediately put his costume on so he could trick or treat a the neighbor's house across the street. They saw him coming, and he got a handful of candy. Bud did the same when he got home, and then after we'd been home for a few minutes, the troop from across the street came to visit us.

We had a couple more trick or treaters during the night, but it was mostly done at that point. The kids had one more piece of candy and got ready for bed. I read a story with Buster, and tucked him in around 9:00. Fortunately, the kids don't have school tomorrow, so they should be able to sleep in a little without worry.

Office Party

Buster crawled into bed with us this morning around 7:15, and was a little tough to dislodge when it was time for him to get dressed. Both kids eventually got up and dressed, and had some breakfast. Bud was excited about his field trip to the planetarium today, so didn't need much motivation. I took the kids to school, and then headed to work.

The kids had a good day at school, and Bud had a good time at his field trip (although he claimed to get dizzy in the planetarium). The kids skipped TKD today, and instead Nanny J dropped them off at my office at about 3:30 with their Halloween costumes. The office was having a big shindig for employees kids, and Buster in particular has been excited about the upcoming event all week.

We got the kids into their costumes, and then did a trick-or-treating circuit around the first floor of the office. The kids collected remarkable hauls, a whole day before Halloween. After we wrapped up the trick-or-treating, we headed to the main lunch room, where there was quite a variety of activities, diversions, and food. The kids played a cornhole game, picked little pumpkins (although declined to decorate them), and enjoyed donuts, chicken strips, and fruit. Buster was interested in the balloon guy (he probably would have asked for another octopus), but there was a bit of a line.

We headed up to my desk to hang out for a few minutes and meet a couple of guys from my team, and then headed home. Apparently we took off right before the costume parade, unfortunately. Both kids got some comments on their costumes: Bud was fairly universally recognized as a bandit, and Buster was alternately described as a Pokemon, a Ninja Turtle, and a few correct answers of Bowser or King Koopa.

The kids were satisfied as we came home, and we arrived around 5:30. They stripped off their costumes and headed outside to play, where they hooked up with the neighbors for a little while. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and the kids came in for some dinner.

Buster had mostly finished his homework, so he did his piano. Bud got his homework completed as well, and we had time to carve the jack-o-lantern together before Bud tackled his piano. I helped Buster have a snack (a lollipop from the trick-or-treating he'd been waiting to have all afternoon), and the helped him get ready for bed. He read some stories with M-lady while I watched a little more Mythbusters with Bud before turning out the light.

Another Belt Achieved

Buster was a little slow getting up this morning, but otherwise we had a fairly standard morning. The cleaners came later in the morning, so I patrolled a bit to make sure everything was picked up. M-lady took the kids to school, and I headed off to work.

The kids had a good day at school. I met them at TKD, where Buster got his next belt: Sr. Blue. After participating in the belt graduation ceremony (and letting Buster know that I was proud of him), Nanny J took the kids home and I ran some errands. I got home around 5:30, just as M-lady was arriving home as well.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and the kids played for a little while before tackling homework. Bud finished his homework quickly, as a portion of his homework this week is a book report he's mostly finished. Buster spent a little longer on homework, and finished up tomorrow's assignment as well in anticipation of pumpkin carving tomorrow evening.

We all had some dinner together, and the kids were good about doing their piano practice. Snack time rolled up fairly quickly, and afterward I helped Buster get ready for bed. We read stories together for a while, and he spent a few minutes playing on the iPad before we turned the light out at about 8:30.

Bowsing Around

Buster was up a little before we were this morning, and he brought his new Lego game into our room and was happily playing that when we got up. M-lady and I marshaled the kids and got them ready for school, and I dropped them off while M-lady headed off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. M-lady was home when I arrived, and Bud was playing in the front yard with the neighbors. When I went in, I found Buster happily dressed up in his Bowser costume, bouncing around excitedly. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, Bud took a little time to play over at the neighbor's house, and I got Buster started on his homework.

Buster had to take off the costume to eat (the shell and tail aren't conducive to sitting), but after dinner he got right back into it. After dinner, Buster and I spent time picking up for the cleaners tomorrow, and Bud tackled his piano practice with M-lady.

I helped Bud with his homework a little bit, and we crafted a word search he'd written up on paper into a decent format as a Word document. I watched some Mythbusters with him before bed, and we had a good time before turning the lights out around 9:00.

Spending Allowance

I was up a bit early this morning for a bike race, and headed out of the house around 7:30. Bud was up as I left, reading to himself in his bed. M-lady was kind enough to watch the kids this morning, and they had breakfast and played a bit.

M-lady spent the majority of the day working on Buster's Halloween costume, which is turning out spectacularly. The kids each had long-term homework projects due next week that they were working on when I got home around lunch time.

After getting lunch for myself and Bud, I helped Buster with his project, a decorated/costumed paper doll for Halloween. Buster wanted to do a scaled-down version of his costume, so we spent time cutting out felt pieces and gluing them together, and he colored his figure in as well. Overall, the project turned out really well. Bud was working on a book report (the first of several this year), and wrote a very solid summary of The Hobbit.

After the kids had wrapped up their projects, I took them out on promised trips so they could spend some of their accumulated allowance. We hit the Lego store at the mall, and then Target on the way home. Buster got a couple of smaller Lego sets, and then Bud picked up some Pokemon card sets. The kids were pretty happy with their purchases, and played with them for most of the rest of the afternoon.

M-lady and I took turns running errands before dinner. I put some dinner together starting around 5:45, while the kids were doing their piano practice. Everyone ate well, and there was a little bit more play time before snacks and getting ready for bed. I played the Lego game Buster acquired today with him before bed, and we had a good time with that until it was time to turn the lights out at 8:30.

Getting Pumpkins

The kids were up before 8:00, but were pretty good about letting us sleep in a little bit. M-lady took off around 8:30 for ballet, and I rolled out of bed around 9:00 to get some breakfast for the kids. After breakfast, they got themselves dressed, and we played a little bit of Xbox before heading out around 11:00.

We met M-lady, Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C at a pumpkin patch. It was a bit more exciting than that, though, as they had hay rides, a small petting zoo, and small haunted house, and bounce houses. The kids played on the bounce houses for a while, and eventually picked out some pumpkins. Bud and I headed home with our prize while M-lady waited with Buster for a hay ride.

We had lunch when we got home, and Buster and M-lady arrived a few minutes later. After lunch, we all rested a bit. Bud headed out around 3:00 to play with the neighbors, but came home when I asked him to a few minutes before 5:00. We packed up again, and headed over to Ama and Agu's house for dinner, where we again met up with Cousin C and family.

The kids had a good time playing games, watching cartoons, and trying on the 'kung fu' clothes Ama and Agu brought back from Taiwan for the kids. We had a good dinner, an ice cream treat, and headed home around 8:00. We did a quick shower and bedtime routine with the kids, and I watched a few minutes of Mythbusters with Bud before we turned out the light around 9:00.

Compentent Testing

The morning routine was normal, although M-lady had to leave a little early, and I took the kids to school. The kids had a good day, and Nanny J took them to their piano lesson in the afternoon.

M-lady met them at their piano lesson. Buster went first (and apparently impressed the piano teacher with how quickly he's picking stuff up), and then Nanny J brought him to TKD, while M-lady stayed with Bud for his piano lesson. I met Buster and Nanny J, and she headed off while I waited with Buster for his turn for a belt test.

We waited about 30 minutes before his test, which got started almost on time. Buster did fine, with pretty good kicks, excellent forms, and a solid board break and oral question response. He was also very patient, as the testing process for all the kids took well over an hour. We made it back to the car a bit after 8:00.

Buster and I grabbed some dinner on the way home, and then showered and got ready for bed immediately on arriving home. Even so, we didn't get the lights out until about 9:20, a bit later than usual. It was no surprise that he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Volunteering

Buster was a little tough to get out of bed today, but otherwise we had a pretty normal morning. M-lady took the kids to school, and volunteered in Buster's class, helping to do some of the filing in the morning.

I did my first volunteer effort in the afternoon, helping out with Bud's class as they created relief maps of California with salt dough or baker's clay. They started off with the salt, flour, and water in ziploc bags which they proceeded to knead, then dump on their desks and knead some more before sculpting it onto a map of California, previously glued to a piece of foam core.

As you might imagine, this generated a pretty spectacular mess in the classroom. We had the teacher and about 5 parent volunteers, and we were kept busy shuttling between kids, generally trying to keep things from getting too out of hand. Aside from a couple of kids who needed just a little extra hand-holding, the maps eventually got completed. The kids helped clean their desks and the floor up a bit before starting a small drawing project, and the remaining parents wiped down placemats and cleaned up the undersides of the foamcore with the maps.

I took my leave at about 2:15, and headed home to finish up the workday. Nanny J and Buster picked up Bud, and then the three of them headed off to TKD after the kids had a snack. They got home again around 5:00.

M-lady arrived home around 5:30, and she and I headed out to a show for the evening while the kids stayed with Nanny J. The kids were apparently very good, and spent some time playing with iPads. They were both asleep when we got home.

Trapped

Buster didn't join us this morning, so we had to wake him up. M-lady got him going and got him dressed this morning, and I got the kids some breakfast. M-lady took them to school, and I headed off for work.

The kids had a good day at school, but didn't make it to TKD today since the Nanny had parked in the garage, and the garage door got stuck. The kids weren't too disappointed. I got home around 5:30 and unstuck the door so Nanny J could leave.

Bud played outside, and got an invite from the neighbors to hang out in their house for a bit, and he dutifully came and asked my permission/let me know where he was going to be. While he was over there, I played ball in the yard with Buster. M-lady arrived home around 6:00, and at about 6:15 I send Buster to retrieve Bud. The kids came in and got started on homework.

They were good about doing their homework, and managed to do most of their work for tomorrow as well. We had dinner together, and the kids handled their piano practice after dinner. Buster had a few minutes to play Xbox before snack time.

M-lady got Buster ready for bed, and I hung out with Bud. We watched more Mythbusters before bed: he opted not to continue with MacGyver. Oh well.

Rolling Along

M-lady headed out this morning around 7:00, just as Buster was getting up to join us. Buster said goodbye to M-lady, and then crawled into bed to snuggle with me until it was time to get up around 7:30. We did a standard morning routine, and I got the kids to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They did the usual school and TKD, and were having fun playing together when I arrived home around 5:45. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I let the kids play for a few minutes before we got started on homework.

The kids had a little snack while working on homework, and we had dinner around the time they were finishing up. They both ate pretty well, and after dinner each did a quick piano practice. They spent the remainder of the evening playing Xbox together (for the first time in a while), and seemed to have a pretty good time.

M-lady had a long day at work, and arrived at snack time. The kids were happy to see her, and chatted a bit before finishing up their snack and getting ready for bed. I read stories with Buster while M-lady hung out with Bud a bit before turning out the lights.

New Old TV

Buster crawled into bed with us around 7:00 this morning, and was fairly difficult to dislodge when it was time to get up around 7:30. I eventually convinced him to get up and get dressed, and got the kids some breakfast. M-lady left a few minutes early, and I took the kids to school.

It was foggy this morning, and the kids wore their jackets. It's been cool in the morning before, but this was the first gray school day morning of the fall, although the fog burned off by mid-morning and the temperature was nice in the afternoon.

The kids had a good day. They didn't play with the neighbors this afternoon, but had a good time playing together inside. I got home around 5:30, and the kids were just getting out of the shower. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I let the kids play for a few more minutes before getting started on homework.

M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we had a somewhat staggered dinner: the kids were more interested in playing than eating, so M-lady and I had both eaten by the time they opted to eat. The kids had dinner a little bit late, and then tackled their piano after eating. Buster and I watched a little bit of the football game together before snack time.

The kids had a quick snack, and I helped Buster get ready for bed. Buster and M-lady read some stories together while I watched Mythbusters with Bud. It was a special Macgyver episode, so after watching a bit, Bud and I put on an episode of MacGyver. We didn't get to watch the whole thing before it was time to turn the lights out, but Bud seemed to like it.

Playing All Day

I was up early for a bike race, and Buster came and crawled into bed with M-lady while I was getting ready to head out the door around 7:00. M-lady was nice enough to watch the kids during the morning, and they were wrapping up piano practice when I got home shortly after 11:00.

Bud headed outside to play with the neighbors when he finished his piano practice, and Cousin C and Aunt O arrived a few minutes later. Buster and Cousin C opted to play inside for most of the afternoon, including some time spent playing on the Wii together.

Around 12:30, Bud came in, complaining of having been hit in the head with a rock. We weren't able to determine the size of the rock, or how it actually hit him in the head, but he had a small scrape and a bit of a lump above his left brow. We helped clean and ice it, and I put a band-aid on it a bit later. He joined us for lunch, which we all ate around 12:45.

Aunt O and Cousin C headed out around 1:30, and I snoozed a bit after that. Around 3:00 I got up and headed out do the grocery shopping. Bud and Buster both generally played inside for the remainder of the afternoon, although Bud headed out to play with the neighbors again for a short time before dinner.

We had dinner around 6:00, and Buster watched some football with me before snack time at 7:45. The kids were good about snack and getting ready for bed, and I read stories with Buster before we turned the light out around 8:30. He was pretty tired, and fell asleep in about 15 minutes.

Reunion Day

We got up early for a weekend, around 7:30, and got the kids out of bed just like a school day, although we skipped breakfast before heading out the door. The kids were a little sluggish getting up, and protested a bit, but we eventually got them in the car and headed off to M-lady's reunion homecoming.

We arrived at campus around 8:45, found parking, and walked over to the beginning of 'The Amazing Kid's Race', a family activity where we visited several points around campus, finding people who asked us trivia questions to get points. The last time we did it, the kids had to do physical challenges: this year, it was just questions. The physical challenges for the kids were more fun, but we had a good time kicking around campus.

We finished up around 10:00, wandered the campus a bit, hit the bookstore, and then headed to the tailgate party for lunch. M-lady ran into a couple of old classmates, and the kids enjoyed popcorn and snowcones from the kid's tailgate area. We headed back to the car around 1:00, which was around the time the football game was starting.

We got home and found a new Pleygo had been delivered. Buster worked on that for most of the afternoon, and M-lady and I napped. M-lady got up a couple of times to redirect the kids, but for the most part they let us sleep. We finally got up around 4:00, and I hung out with the kids a little bit before making some dinner plans.

We decided to do a movie night, since we missed last night for a real movie night, and I headed out to pick up some dinner. We sat down in front of an animated Batman movie, and afterward Bud wanted to see some of the old Batman TV show from the 60's. We watched a bit, but it was so ridiculous I had trouble keeping with it.

We did a quick snack and piano practice for the kids, and then got ready for bed. I watched a little more of the Batman movie with Bud before we turned the lights out around 9:00.

First Bus Ride

The morning was pretty straightforward, and I dropped the kids off at school. Buster had a field trip to the pumpkin farm today, so the late birds were being dropped off in the morning as well, which made the drop off a little crowded. Buster was pretty excited about the field trip.

The kids apparently played with the neighbors in the afternoon again, and I met them and Nanny J at their piano lesson around 5:00. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and the kids did a good job at their lessons. We picked up some dinner on the way home, and ate when we arrived.

M-lady had activities for her college reunion today, so didn't get home until around 7:00. The kids and I were watching TV at that point, and she joined us after finishing dinner. Around 7:45 we started the usual snack and bedtime routine, and Babysitter G arrived at 8:00 so that M-lady and I could go out to a dance troupe reunion. Buster was happy to have Babysitter G read to him, and Bud was playing with an iPad when we left around 8:30. The kids were apparently good for Babysitter G, and went to sleep fairly quickly.

Neighborly Outing

Buster was up around 7:00 again today, and consequently was much easier to convince to get dressed. We did a fairly standard morning routine, and M-lady took the kids to school while I took my car to the shop for routine maintenance.

I rode my bike back home after dropping off the car, and ended up working from home for the day. Buster got home with Nanny J around lunchtime, and they went to pick up Bud around 3:00. When Bud got home, they had time to get a snack and head off to TKD.

I rode my bike out again around 4:00 to pick up my car, and got back home a few minutes before they returned. Buster had a bath upon arrival, and Bud immediately changed into street clothes and headed outside to play with the neighbors. Buster joined him as soon as he got out of his bath. When M-lady got home around 5:45, our kids were in the front yard with the four kids from across the street, all playing ball together.

We brought the kids in after a few minutes, and packed up to head to the school pot-luck dinner and book fair. The kids were really excited, and eventually I had to send them out to the car to prevent damage in the house as they bounced around, waiting for M-lady and me to get everything together.

Our new neighbors were at the pot luck as well, and we sat next to them and chatted. Bud ate well, Buster nibbled some fruit, and both kids were excited to pick out books at the book fair. After picking out some books and collecting our dish, we headed home, getting in a bit after 7:00. The kids had handled most of their homework yesterday, so there was minimal homework and quick piano practices, along with snack before bed.

I read some of one of Buster's new book to him before we turned the lights out at about 8:30, and he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Full Evening

Buster was deeply asleep when it was time to get up, so I spent a fair bit of time trying to rouse him. Bud, as usual, was reading in bed, and was good about getting dressed and having breakfast. I eventually got Buster up, and the kids had some breakfast before I took them to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day at school. Buster made a couple drawings in the afternoon as a gift for M-lady: an octopus and a squid. They look basically the same, but one has 8 legs and the other has 10.

I met the kids and Nanny J at TKD in the afternoon, and then brought the kids home. We chatted and listened to the kids current favorite song, Check Yes Juliet, on the way home. When we got home, Buster got himself ready for a bath, and Bud got started on his homework without me even asking.

We had dinner a little bit later, and M-lady arrived home just in time to join us. The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we wrapped up homework and piano, including doing some homework for tomorrow as well. We have a school event to attend tomorrow evening, and it will probably interrupt our usual routine.

I got Buster ready for bed and read some stories with him while M-lady did piano with Bud, and then watched some Mythbusters with Bud until it was time to turn the light out around 9:00.

Recovering Toys

Buster crawled into bed with us around 7:00 this morning, and we did our usual routine starting at about 7:30, with the addition of making sure everything was picked up before the cleaners arrived. M-lady took the kids to school, and I headed out to work a short time later.

The kids had a pretty standard day at school and TKD in the mid-afternoon. Apparently as soon as they got home from TKD, however, Bud got dressed and headed outside to play with Friend E, one of the neighbor kids who lives across the street and is also in 3rd grade at Bud's school (although not in his classroom). Buster had a shower and then headed outside as well. They were still playing outside when I got home.

We said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later, and I let the kids play outside for a while. When I headed out to give them a warning that it would be time to come in for dinner and homework shortly, I found them wacking one of the trees in our yard, trying to retrieve a stuck jumprope. I assisted them in retrieving the jumprope, and then we said our good evenings and headed in for dinner.

M-lady had to work a little late this evening, so I did dinner with the kids, who ate well. After dinner I got them started on homework, and Buster did his piano practice as well. M-lady arrived home near 7:30, and had some dinner while chatting with Bud. I got snacks for the kids, and then read stories with Buster while Bud did his piano practice with M-lady.

More Neighbor Play

The kids were good about getting ready this morning, and I took them to school as M-lady headed for work. They both agreed to wear jackets this morning, which was good: it was a little chilly, although the day warmed up nicely a bit later.

I got home around 5:30, and found the kids playing outside with the new neighbors from across the street again. They were having a pretty good time, and all four of the neighbor kids were out this time. Bud apparently slapped his hand into a rosebush a bit later and needed a band-aid, but otherwise the kids had a good time.

M-lady got home around 5:45, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. A few minutes later, the neighbors had to go in for dinner, so our kids came in as well. Buster did his homework as M-lady prepared dinner, and Bud tackled his homework after dinner. The kids did their piano practice as well, and Buster spent some time playing on the Wii before snack and bedtime.

Bud and I watched some Mythbusters before bed again, and had fun discussing the science and engineering behind the projects. We turned the light out a little after 9:00, and he went to sleep pretty quickly after the lights went out, possibly owing to the time spent running around and playing outside.

Sunday, October 13, 2013

Neighbors

The kids were up before 9:00 again, and in and out of our bed. Right around 9:00 they threatened to both get into bed (and play with a balloon they were batting back and forth), and I got out of bed. M-lady got up a few minute later to cook them breakfast, and I headed out for a bike ride.

When I got back a bit after 12:00, Aunt O and Cousin C were visiting, and everyone was having lunch together. After lunch, Buster and Cousin C played on the Wii for a bit, and Bud drifted in and out to watch them.

I did a quick trip to Home Depot, and then tackled a few issues around the house when I returned. A bit later in the afternoon, Bud and I headed out to pick up some groceries for dinner, and M-lady and Buster had run out for a couple errands when we got back.

Our neighborhood has generally been devoid of children Bud and Buster's age, but recently a family moved in across the street with kids in the right age range. One of the daughters is actually in 3rd grade with Bud, although not in his classroom. She and her younger sister were out playing, and Bud and Buster engaged them in the later afternoon and had a good time running around with them in the front yard, back yard, and inside before dinner was ready.

The kids ate a good dinner, and Buster was particularly good about trying new foods. After dinner, the kids were good about helping to clean up the house before some guests arrived starting at about 7:00. I entertained the guests while M-lady was nice enough to help get the kids ready for bed. The kids hung out with us a bit before turning in, though.

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Full Day

The kids were up around 8:00ish, and snuggled a bit before playing with each other for most of the morning. M-lady headed out before 9:00 to get to ballet class, and I rolled out of bed around 9:00 to get breakfast for the kids.

As we were finishing up breakfast, Aunt O called to invite us over to play with Cousin C. I packed up the kids and we headed over around 10:30. The kids were excited to see each other, and immediately began playing together while I caught up a bit with Aunt O and Uncle C.

Aunt O and Cousin C and my crew headed out to walk to the local park, with a brief stop at a local empty lot which had been decorated as a graveyard for Halloween. There were some clever tombstones, including one for 'Twinkies'. We proceeded to the park after checking out the impromptu cemetery, where we found a local school was conducting a walk-a-thon. We played on the edges of the park for a little while before heading back.

At about 12:30 I gathered my kids up, we said our thanks and goodbyes, and headed out. We picked up some lunch on the way home, and met M-lady there to eat. After lunch, there was a short play time before M-lady took Buster out to a classmate's birthday party. The party was at Pump-It-Up, an inflatable play area (sort of like lots of giant bouncy castles), and Buster apparently had a great time. Bud and I hung out at home for a few minutes after they left, then headed to the library and grocery store.

We got home and Bud curled up with a book for a while as I unloaded groceries. Buster and M-lady arrived home again before too long, and we got dinner together a short time later. The kids ate well, and after dinner they did a quick piano practice. Buster played some Wii after dinner, and then helped me clean up the living room a bit before snack time.

After having a snack, I got Buster showered, and then did the bedtime routine with him. We had fun reading a couple of new library books, including a Curious George book. The lights were out around 8:45, and Buster fell asleep pretty quickly, unsurprisingly after his busy afternoon at the birthday party.

Educational TV

Buster headed downstairs shortly after getting up, before getting dressed. He opted to eat breakfast before getting dressed, in a break with routine. Both kids were good about getting ready, though, and M-lady took them to school.

They had a good day, and M-lady met Nanny J at their piano lessons. I got home a few minutes before they did, and started getting some dinner ready. After they'd settled in at home, we got dinner together and picked out a movie to watch. The kids agreed on the made-for-TV The Tigger Movie, which turned out to be fair at best, but they enjoyed pretty well.

After dinner, the kids had a quick snack, and Bud took a shower while Buster started getting ready for bed. M-lady read some stories with Buster, and he was apparently mostly asleep by the time she turned the light out.

Bud and I watched the School House Rocks Multiplication Rock videos, since he's started to learn multiplication at school this week. We had a pretty good time with those, and were able to watch all the way through 12 before it was time to head to bed. Bud also seemed pretty tired, and fell asleep quickly once the light went out.

Early Illness Signs

We had a fairly standard morning routine, with Buster being a little hard to rouse, as is often the case. Both kids were a little sniffly this morning, though, and Bud complained of a sore throat. They didn't seem otherwise sluggish, though, so we headed off to school.

The kids seem to have had a fine day, and did well at TKD. Buster earned the last tape he needed to qualify for testing this month, and was pretty excited about that. I got home in time to relieve Nanny J, and Buster got started on his homework immediately so that he could play with the Pleygo set which arrived in the mail today.

Bud got started on his homework a short time later, and had finished most of it by the time we had dinner. M-lady picked up the homework torch after dinner, and Bud was able to wrap things up before snack time. Both kids did brief piano practices, and we did the bedtime routine.

Buster and I read a few books together, and then played on the iPad. Buster got interested in the Solar Walk application again after M-lady brought it up this evening, so we played with that until it was time to turn the light out.

Buster fell asleep pretty quickly. At about 9:30, Bud came to find me, complaining he was having trouble falling asleep because of his sore throat. I lay down in bed next to him until he fell asleep, a short time later.

CalvinCards

We did the usual morning routine, and I took the kids to school. It's getting cooler in the mornings, but Bud still isn't wearing a jacket. I assume he moves around a bit while waiting for the bell, and generally keeps warm. Bud had a short day again, and got home around an hour after his brother.

The kids played in the afternoon, and then headed to their usual Wednesday TKD class, where I picked them up. Track cycling season is over, so I don't have to rush to get them home, but traffic was light today and we made good time. I got started on dinner when we got home, and we all had a good meal together.

After dinner, the kids tackled their homework, piano, and snack (not necessarily in that order). Buster spent some time showing M-lady a card game he and Bud invented (apparently a derivative of Pokemon played with a standard playing-card deck). They called it Monster Fighter, but M-lady dubbed it more accurately CalvinCards.

I helped Buster get ready for bed and read a story with him while M-lady did piano with Bud, and then spent some time watching Mythbusters with Bud. We turned the light out around 9:00, and he was asleep pretty quickly.

Late Class

We did a usual morning routine. Buster had joined us in bed about half an hour before it was time to get up, and snuggled with M-lady for a bit. Once he got moving, he was good about getting ready, though. M-lady took the kids to school, and I headed off to work.

Bud had a short day again, and the kids had a fun afternoon together. They had completed most of their homework the day before, so they didn't have anything to do but play.

They went to the later TKD class for the first time, starting at 5:45. I met them there, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. It was a more advanced class, and apparently more of a workout than their usual class. Bud did well, and was still one of the more highly ranked students in the class, but Buster was looking a little tired in the later class, and was definitely flagging towards the end.

I brought the kids home, where they took a quick shower before dinner. It was snack time by the time dinner was over: Buster did a quick piano practice, and then the kids had snack together, and then Bud did his piano while Buster was getting ready for bed. I read a few stories with Buster, and we turned out the light around 8:30. He was pretty tired, and fell asleep quickly.

Working Ahead

Buster crawled in bed with us around 7:00, and snuggled until it was time to get up around 7:30. I rolled out of bed and helped the kids get ready, and got them some breakfast. M-lady took them off to school a short time later while I headed to work on my bike.

The kids seem to have had a good day at school, and then fun playing at home. Since Parent-Teacher conferences are going on this week, Bud is getting out of school early all week. I arrived home around 5:30, and found M-lady already home. The kids had had their showers, and were running around a bit. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, M-lady ate dinner and headed out to a concert. I let the kids play for a few more minutes, and then got them started on homework.

The kids will be trying out a later, more advanced TKD class tomorrow, so I urged them to do two days worth of homework (they get all their assignments for the week on Monday). They agreed, and both banged out two days worth of homework and a quick piano practice before snack time.

The kids were good about snack and bedtime, and I read with Buster, then watched a little bit of Mythbusters with Bud. Both kids fell asleep pretty quickly after turning out the lights.

Weekend Wrap

The kids were happy to have us back this morning, and stormed in around 8:00 before heading out to play together (somewhat loudly) for a bit. M-lady and I got up later, and she headed to ballet while I got breakfast for the kids.

After breakfast, we watched some football together before having a video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese. The kids are almost uncontrollable now during a video call, and were crashing into me regularly while the call progressed. They did take a few minutes to say hello, though, and Bud chatted with them while I checked on Buster partway through the call.

After the call, we got some lunch, and everyone ate pretty well. There was a little more football/TV time after lunch, and then I rested for a few minutes. M-lady returned home, and I got up to help get the kids a snack after they'd practiced piano.

I headed out to do the grocery shopping, and then spent the later afternoon fixing one of our toilets. Bud popped in to help for a while, which was nice. I took a brief outing to Home Depot for parts, and then helped M-lady get dinner together after I returned. We had a good dinner together, and I finished up the toilet pretty quickly after dinner.

While Buster played on the Wii, Bud and M-lady and I played Ticket To Ride together until snack time. Actually, we played well past snack time, and got snack started a bit late. The kids had a quick snack, and then we rushed to shower them and get them ready for bed. Buster and I had just a few minutes to read before turning out the light. Buster was pretty tired, and fell soundly asleep in a few minutes.

Musical Request

The kids were up again before we were, and Buster came and snuggled for a while before we got up. I had to motivate the kids a bit, since they were having a good time playing together in their pajamas, but they eventually got dressed and had some breakfast. I took them to school, and then headed to work.

The kids again seemed to have a good day. I met them at their TKD workout, and Buster was excited to have received notification that he'll be testing for his next belt at the end of the month. Bud was a little disappointed not to get that notification, but he's at the higher ranks now, and they tend to wait longer between belts.

I brought the kids home, and discovered that they hadn't done their homework before TKD. M-lady arrived home at the same time we didn. The kids took a quick shower together (really a boon for me, since Bud helped wash Buster, and I didn't have to stick my head in the shower), and I helped them dry off and get dressed, and then got them started on homework. M-lady helped them while I got dinner together.

Bud had his music class today in school, and they've started working on the songs from Mary Poppins. Bud was excited since he's familiar with the music, but hoped that next year maybe they could do Les Mis. He then started working on how to ask his music teacher about it.

We had a good dinner, and Bud finished up his homework while Buster dressed up as Batman. Snack time came up quickly, and Bud did his piano practice after snack while I was reading stories with Buster. Buster and I turned out the light around 8:30 after a short iPad time, and he went to sleep quickly.

Busting Myths

The kids were both up early this morning, which meant there wasn't the usual struggle to get Buster out of bed. They had a quick breakfast, and had fun playing with each other for a few minutes before M-lady took them to school. I headed out a short time later.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Nanny J took them to TKD in the afternoon, and they both showered before I got home. I got home a little bit late, around 6:00, and found them playing together and having a good time. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and M-lady arrived home a few minutes later, just as I was getting the kids started on their homework.

Bud had far less homework tonight, and finished it up before dinner. We all ate together, and the kids did their piano and played more together before snack time. I orchestrated the snack, and then the kids headed upstairs to get ready for bed.

Once again, Bud and I watched some Mythbusters. He's really digging the show, and it's lots of fun for me, too. We talk about some of the science that they gloss over in the show sometimes, and laugh together a lot. Bud has started quoting some facts from the show as well, which has at times required me to explain a little more in-depth to M-lady to clarify Bud's statements.

We turned out the light a little after 9:00, and chatted about a potential project: I thought it would be fun to write a computer game together, so I suggested he start thinking about a game he might like to make. We'll see if that goes anywhere.
