PJ Transition

It took a little bit of effort to get Buster up this morning, but once up the kids were good about having breakfast and getting ready for school. I dropped the kids off, and then headed to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home around 5:30, while Buster was having a bath. Nanny J and I got the kids a snack when Buster was dressed, and we said goodbye to Nanny J and watched a little bit of football before I got them started on homework.

M-lady arrived home a little later, and prepared some dinner for us while I proctored the homework effort. Bud happened to get a particularly long homework set tonight, so took a break to eat dinner. He finished up while Buster was practicing piano, and then did his piano practice while Buster played a few minutes of Wii.

The kids had a quick snack, and then we did the bedtime routine. The weather is still nice, so they're still generally wearing shorts and T-shirts during the day, but we're starting to stock up on pants and long-sleeved shirts. M-lady got some long-sleeved PJs for Buster, and he was really excited to wear them tonight since they've got TMNT on them. Hopefully he won't overheat tonight.

Productive Day

The kids jumped in bed with us starting at about 8:00, and M-lady was nice enough to keep them off me for a while. She got up and did piano practice with them, leaving them with no further obligations for the rest of the day. I rolled out of bed around 9:00 to make them some breakfast, and M-lady headed off to ballet.

We had a good breakfast, chilled for a few minutes, and then got dressed and headed out to run some errands. We hit the bank and the grocery store, and then picked up Jamba Juice for lunch. We enjoyed our Jamba Juice together at home, rested for a few minutes, and then headed out again around 1:00 to get haircuts.

The kids were good for their haircuts, and very patient as we had to wait a few minutes. They both got most of their hair unloaded, and then I made good on my promise to take them to Toys 'R Us with a very brief stop at home first. M-lady was there, and I had a chance to say hello before running out the door again.

The kids each picked out something to spend their allowance on at the toy store, and were very satisfied with their purchases. I convinced them to swing by Fry's with me on the way home, and I got a toy for myself as well. We headed home after that, and the kids played with their toys for a bit while I watched some afternoon football.

The three of us headed out again to pick up some dinner, and when we returned with it we found M-lady returned from her shopping expedition. We had dinner together, and then sort of a belated movie night, as we'd missed it the past couple of evenings. We all watched some Looney Tunes together before snack time at 7:45.

I helped get Buster ready for bed, and then watched some Mythbusters with Bud before we turned out the light at 9:00.

2013 Canary Challenge Century

I was out of bed before 6:00am, and out the door a few minutes later, before anyone else was up. M-lady was nice enough to watch the kids for me during the day, which was great. I had a fantastic ride, and enjoyed spending time hanging out with the Vanderkittens a bit before and after the ride.

I rode most of the event with Amy from VK, and Chip, who I met at the event a couple of years ago. We've crossed paths on the event each year, but this was the first time we got to ride together, and it works out pretty well. We had a nice time during the ride. Amy was spectacular, and pulled most of the ride. She dusted us on the hills (setting some Strava QOMs in the process), but was kind enough to wait at the tops.

We arrived around 2:45, after about 7:30 hours on the road (6:15 riding time: the rest stops were good). A short time after we got in, M-lady and Buster arrived at the village to say hello and celebrate a little bit. Bud was at a friends birthday party, and M-lady and Buster had to go pick him up after a short time, but not before Buster had a chance to pick up some VK stickers and get a balloon animal made for him to order: an octopus!

I headed home and cleaned up, and met the rest of the family over at Ama and Agu's house for dinner. I don't think I was very exciting company, as I was pretty exhausted, and I excused myself and headed home a little early. The kids opted to come with me, and I set them up with iPads and games for a short time before M-lady arrived home and we did the snack and bedtime routine.

Overall the event was a spectacular success, I had an amazing time, and I want to thank all my sponsors again: I raised just short of $6000, and got to continue to be a part of a wonderful event which is growing rapidly in it's third year. They doubled the number of riders this year, and raised about $750,000 total, which is truly wonderful. Thanks again!

Building Games

Both kids came to crawl into bed with us this morning, sequentially. It made motivating them to get dressed a little easier, since they were already up when the time came. I got them breakfast, and M-lady took them to school. Buster opted to wear a jacket to school this morning, an indicator that the weather is slowly turning cooler.

The kids seem to have had a good day at school, and Nanny J took them to TKD. M-lady was already home when I got home, and Nanny J took her leave a short time later. The kids and I spent about 15 minutes hanging out before we all got started on homework.

There was a fair bit of homework to do, including writing down observations of an apple (for Buster), and helping Bud with some math problems. We took a break for dinner, and then finished up homework before tackling piano.

When Buster was done with piano, I spent some time building with him using Jenga blocks. We had a good time constructing different towers before snack time rolled up. The kids had a quick snack, and then we did the bedtime routine. I watched Mythbusters with Bud again, and we turned the light out a few minutes after 9:00.

Flu Shots

The kids were pretty good about getting ready this morning, and M-lady took the kids to school. They seem to have had a good day. Apparently there was a 'Code Red' drill at school today, and both kids reportedly did fine.

I met Nanny J and the kids at their doctor's office shortly after 4:00, where the kids got their annual flu shot. The kids were pretty good about it. There was some wincing, but no crying. Buster picked out a sticker on the way out, and I took the kids to TKD. We got to TKD a few minutes late, but they were able to jump right into the class, where they both did pretty well.

We headed home, and I discovered that neither child had started their homework, so that pretty much consumed the rest of the evening. M-lady had already prepared most of dinner, so I got Buster bathed when we got home and she got started on homework with Bud. The kids did their homework, did piano, and then had snack and bedtime. I read stories with Buster, he had a few minutes of iPad time, and we turned out the light around 8:30.

Apple Day

M-lady and I rolled the kids out of bed around 7:40, and they were good about getting ready for school and having breakfast. I took them to school again, and then headed back home to ride my bike into work.

The kids had a pretty standard day. Nanny J took them to TKD in the afternoon, and I got home around 5:45. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and Buster told me the he'd tried 4 different kinds of apples today (they're studying Johnny Appleseed). He liked all four: apple juice, apple sauce, apple slices, and dried apple.

I got the kids started on homework a short time later (accompanied by apple juice and krazy straws), and M-lady arrived home a short time later. Buster actually finished his homework and piano before dinner. After dinner, Bud did his piano, and Buster played on the Wii for a bit. Bud joined us before snack time.

The kids had popcorn for a snack, and then got ready for bed. Bud and I spent the evening watching Mythbusters again, and had a good time.

Unusual Afternoon Activity

Buster was up early this morning, got himself ready, and asked M-lady to get him some breakfast early so he could spend some time working on his new Lego set before school. Bud did a more traditional morning routine, and I took the kids to school before heading off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home around 5:45, and found the garage a bit wet inside, which I thought was odd. Apparently the kids had played with water in the garage, then 'cleaned' and swept out the water. Unfortunately, the ants living under the driveway were spooked and encroaching on the garage, so I had to Raid them and clean up a bit after Nanny J left. We agreed that playing with water in the garage is generally a bad idea.

M-lady was a little late getting home, so I got the kids started on homework and got dinner going. M-lady arrived in time to help out with the end of homework and eat dinner with us. The kids ate pretty well, and the kids were excited to use the crazy straws Buster picked out at the last grocery outing. After dinner, the kids tackled piano while I watched a little bit of football.

We had a good snack time, and then I helped Buster get ready for bed. We read a couple stories before turning out the light, and Buster fell asleep pretty quickly.

Mini Golf By Request

Ama and Agu were still with us in the morning, and got some breakfast together for the kids and M-lady. Apparently, I got up a bit too late to partake. I said hello, had a quick bite, and headed out to the garage to work on the bikes a bit.

Ama and Agu headed out around 10:30, and returned about an hour later. We all packed up and loaded into the car, and headed over to Aunt O and Uncle C's place to pick up Cousin C to go play mini-golf. Bud opted out, and stayed at Aunt O and Uncle C's with them, reading a book. The rest of us headed over to the local mini-golf and arcade.

We got there shortly after they opened, but unfortunately, at the same time as a couple of birthday party groups. It was pretty crowded, but we managed to get onto the course after a short wait in line. I explained some of the ground rules to Buster and Cousin C, and we headed out. Ama and Agu mostly watched, but each tried a couple of holes.

It wasn't really a day for keeping score, and we all had a good time. We finished out 18 holes, and then loaded up again and headed out. We dropped off Cousin C, picked up Bud, and headed home for a late lunch. There was a short period of relaxing and watching a few minutes of a football game after lunch, and then I headed back out to the garage for a bit.

M-lady and the kids eventually headed out for a Target run, and I went for a bike ride. The kids each picked up a prize purchased with their allowance: Bud got some Pokemon cards, which he's gotten interested in recently, and Buster picked up a new Chima Lego set. Buster had finished a chunk of the set already when I got back from the ride.

We had a minor setback while making dinner involving moldy cheese, but put a meal on the table before 7:00. The kids ate well, and after dinner we loaded up and headed over to Ama and Agu's in two cars so we could pick up a couple of pieces of furniture. The kids successfully plied Ama for a snack while I was loading my car, and a few minutes later we all came home again. The kids helped me get the furniture into the house, and the bedtime routine started before too long.

After Bud was showered, I played a couple of trainer games of Pokemon with him before watching a few minutes of Mythbusters. We turned out the light around 9:00.

Shortly after turning out the light, Bud called out that he had a bloody nose. M-lady and I helped him clean up, changed his sheets, and got him back into bed before too long. Hopefully his nose stays clotted tonight.

Beginning of the Weekend

Buster was a little slow to get up this morning, but otherwise the routine went smoothly. I got the kids some breakfast after they were dressed, and M-lady took them to school. I headed off to work a short time later. M-lady didn't volunteer this week, as apparently both teachers were all set and didn't need any volunteer help.

I got home a little after 5:00, just after the kids got back from TKD. I was extremely tired for some reason, and fell asleep almost immediately. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and they said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45. The kids played until about 6:45, when M-lady and I got up and headed downstairs to get dinner going.

The kids ate well, and did piano after dinner. They don't have school tomorrow, so they didn't have to do homework tonight. Bud did a solid effort on his piano, and Buster played a little bit of Wii before snack time. I got snacks for the kids, and got Buster going on his bedtime routine before M-lady took over and read him a story. Bud and I watched a little bit of MythBusters before bed, and had a pretty good time chatting before we turned the light out around 9:15.

Last Wednesday Night Race

M-lady and I got up at 7:30, and found Bud already up and dressed. Buster was a little slower getting up, but M-lady snuggled with him for a few minutes and then helped him get dressed. I got breakfast for the kids, combed their hair, and took them to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I picked them up at TKD in the late afternoon, and watched some of their class. They're both doing well with kicks, although they need to work on flexibility. After class I drove them home, and we got a chance to chat while sitting in traffic.

I dropped them off at home shortly after 6:00, where M-lady was waiting. She did the evening routine with them, and I headed off to the last Wednesday Night Racing of the season. I had a good set of races, and then got home just before 9:00. Both kids were up and said hello before heading back to bed.

Buster closed his door and turned on the light so he could read. I went in and tucked him in, and turned his light out before chatting with Bud for a few minutes after his light was out. Both kids went to sleep pretty quickly.

Deferring Dinner

I had to leave a little early for a conference up in San Francisco this morning, so I got up around 7:00. I helped the kids out of bed around 7:30, and got Buster dressed, and then headed out before breakfast time. M-lady supervised breakfast and got the kids to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I arrived home while Buster and Nanny J were retrieving Bud from school, and the two of them played together all afternoon when they got home. Nanny J took them to TKD in the late afternoon, and then got Buster bathed when they got home. We said goodbye to Nanny J shortly before 6:00, and I got the kids started on homework a short time later.

M-lady arrived home, and spent the evening exercising while I did homework, dinner, and piano with the kids. Both kids deferred dinner, and only Bud came back to it later at snacktime. Buster opted to head for bed without finishing his dinner, and skipping a snack.

I got Buster ready for bed, and we had a good time reading stories together. His reading continues to improve. We had a short bit of iPad time before we turned out the light, and listened to some Suzuki music.

Canary Challenge Fundraising

A quick break from your regularly scheduled blog:

Hi all,
I'll be riding the century for the Canary Foundation again this year, and wanted to ask for your support.
http://canary.convio.net/site/TR/Events/General?px=1001774&pg=personal&fr_id=1060

It turns out, since I rode with the pro group last year, I'm all over the promo video (although I didn't dress distinctly, so I'm hard to pick out). Look for the bike with the red handlebars: that's me. At about 0:48-0:50 I ride right in front of the camera. I'm wearing my dark blue and white kit in most of the shots. At the end of the video my riding partner closes out quotes.

I'm also in the first picture on the homepage... see if you can find me:
http://canarychallenge.com/

I'll be riding for my mother this year, who's recovering from breast cancer, and I'll be sure to wear a more distinctive kit so I show up in photos and videos better.

Thanks much for your support!

School Day Again

We did our standard Monday routine. The kids were good about getting ready for school, and both were up before M-lady and I were. I took them to school, then headed home and rode my bike to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day at school, and were both happy to see me when I got home around 5:30. I changed clothes and we said goodbye to Nanny J, and watched a few minutes of football before M-lady arrived home. I got the kids started on homework while M-lady made some dinner, and we all ate together.

The kids were good about doing homework and piano, and Buster played a little bit of Wii before snack time. They had a quick snack, and I worked with Bud on some research for a week-long homework assignment after he'd showered and gotten ready for bed. We did research on armadillos and cougars, and had a good time finding out interesting facts before watching a little bit of Mythbusters before bed.

Smooth Ride Home

Bud and I were again up around 7:30 after a good night's sleep. I had packed up the night before, so we got dressed and did the final pack up, headed downstairs and checked out as we met up with Granddad B and Grandma Nese. We stopped for breakfast on the way over to the airfield, and then headed in and met up again at the Sawbones camp, where we watched the first couple races from the top of the trailer.

We wandered around the pits a bit, watched another couple races (including watching the Sawbones pilot take 1st place in the Jet class Silver race), and then headed for lunch. We said our goodbyes to Granddad B and Grandma Nese, who headed back to the Checkered Flag club for lunch. Bud and I picked up some hot dogs, snacks, and a root beer float, walked back to our car, and started the drive home.

Bud was great on the drive again, and we didn't hit any significant traffic, so it was a much faster drive. We stopped in Davis to stretch our legs, and had a couple of quick bathroom stops, but ended up making it home by about 5:00pm. M-lady arrived home with Buster from Aunt O and Uncle C's place a few minutes after we pulled up, and we hung out together for a little while.

I went out and picked up some sushi for dinner, and we all ate well. After dinner, we broke out the 3D Air Races movie I picked up at the show, and we watched some of it: spectacular 3D aerial footage, so it should be fun to watch the whole thing. We did snack and bedtime routine, and I read a story with Buster and did some iPad time with him before turning out the light around 8:30.

A Day At The Races

Bud was up early, around 7:00, really excited to start the day. We met Grandma Nese and Granddad B at a cafe for breakfast in the restaurant, then loaded up and drove about 15 minutes to the airfield where the Reno Air Races were being held. The grandparents had already secured tickets and pit passes for us, so we headed in with them and watched a race from the bleachers before checking out the pits a little bit more.

They know a number of the pilots, and had started hanging out with the Sawbones crew, so we headed over there. They had furnished the top of their trailer, so we were able to watch some races and airshow events from up there. Before lunch we headed over to check out the sport planes, and talk to some of the other pilots Granddad B knows.

We got some lunch after that, and ate back at the Sawbones camp. After lunch (and a few more races and events), we walked over to the jet area. Unfortunately, Bud had run out of steam, and got a bit surly on the walk. I headed back with him, and he livened up a bit after drinking some soda, but was still ready to call it a day. The grandparents were nice enough to take us back to the hotel around 3:30.

We rested and watched a movie on the iPad, and decided to finish watching the movie rather than hit the pool. After the movie, we cleaned up and headed to find some dinner. We ended up at a nice restaurant, much nicer than anything Bud had been to before. He acquitted himself well, and we had a good time together at dinner. After dinner, we spent time hanging out with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and even played a couple of games of Ticket To Ride with them on the iPads before it was time to turn in. Bud and I headed back to our room, got ready for bed, and went to sleep after a full day.

Heading Up to Reno

The morning routine was fairly standard, although Bud and I said goodbye to M-lady in the morning. I took the kids to school, and then headed off to work for a short time. I was home by about 1:30, and waited for Bud to get home from school.

When he got home, I loaded him up, we said goodbye to Nanny J and Buster, and headed off to Reno. I couldn't get a flight that got us there at any reasonable time, so we drove up. Bud was great. We had some bad traffic between here and Sacramento, where we stopped for some dinner, but after that it was smooth sailing, and we made it up to the hotel where we were staying at about 8:30.

We were met at the door by Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and Granddad B helped us to our room. We set the plan to meet them for breakfast at about 8:00, said goodnight, and then got down to the business of getting ready for bed. We were pretty tired after the long drive, and got to sleep pretty quickly.

M-lady and Buster apparently had a good piano lesson, and then did movie night over at Ama and Agu's house, where they watched Road Runner movies. It sounds like they had a good time.

Packing Up

At about 5:00 this morning, Buster wandered into our bedroom with a bloody nose. His hands were covered in blood, but he'd managed to not get blood on anything else: pajamas, sheets, pillows, stuffed animals, and blankey all escaped. His nose stopped bleeding fairly quickly, and I lay down with him for a bit to get him back to sleep.

He was hard to get up in the morning, and eventually managed to get dressed and head down for breakfast. Aside from the sluggish start, the morning was pretty standard. M-lady took the kids to school, and volunteered in both classes for a little while.

I got home from work around 5:30, and M-lady got home a few minutes later. The kids had a good day in school and at TKD, and Buster was bathed when I got home. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, I got the kids rolling on homework. We took a little break for dinner, and then Bud finished up his homework while Buster did his piano with M-lady.

Bud did a solid piano practice, finishing up in time for a snack. I helped get Buster ready for bed, and then hung out with Bud for a bit. We picked out some books for him to bring in the coming weekend, as well as some other diversions for the road. We're both excited about our trip tomorrow.

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Usual Wednesday

We did the standard morning routine, and the kids were pretty good about getting ready. I took them to school, and then headed off to work.

The kids had their later TKD in the afternoon, and I met them there. They both did a good job with their kicks in class. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I loaded them up and brought them home. We had a nice chat on the way home about their school days, and the homework they needed to do. Bud had forgotten to do his homework before TKD, so the evening was pretty busy.

I dropped the kids off at home, and then headed out to the bike races at the local velodrome. M-lady was kind enough to let me race, and took care of getting the kids bathed, fed, homeworked, and piano'd. The racing went a little late, so I didn't get home until about 9:30, after the kids were asleep.

New Books

The morning routine was fairly standard, with Buster coming and looking for some morning cuddle time before it was time to start getting dressed. I got the kids breakfast, and M-lady took them to school.

They seem to have had a good day, and TKD in the afternoon. I got home around 5:45, and M-lady was already home. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and got the kids going on their homework. Buster is supposed to read (or be read to) for 10 minutes each day as part of his homework, and a few new books arrived for him today which he was pretty excited about, so he took care of that part of the homework without any trouble.

M-lady got dinner together, and we all ate. Buster deferred dinner a bit, and was antsy at the table. After dinner, Bud finished up his homework, and Buster tackled his piano practice. When Buster was done, Bud got on the piano, and Buster spent some time picking up the living room and the family room before playing a few minutes of Wii. Snack time came up quickly, and I read Buster's new books with him before we turned out the light around 8:30.

Late Piano

Buster was a little slow to get up this morning, but otherwise the morning routine went well. Since Ama and Agu weren't with us this morning for the first time in a while, M-lady and I got breakfast for the kids. I took them to school, headed back home, and rode my bike to work.

I got home around 5:45, just as Nanny J was leaving. M-lady was already home, working with Bud on his homework. Buster had done his homework, which he's starting this week. I showered, and had a few minutes to watch some football before Bud and I headed off to his piano lesson for the week. He'll miss his normal lesson on Friday this week, so he's got an early makeup lesson.

We got back a little after 7:00, and M-lady was getting dinner for herself and Buster. I helped with that, and got some dinner for Bud and myself as well. M-lady and Buster worked on his piano practice while Bud and I were finishing dinner, and snack time followed immediately. Bud was still pretty full, so he showered before having a snack.

I helped Buster get ready for bed, and then watched some MythBusters with Bud before turning out the light. He really liked it, and I forsee some more of that in the future.

Sunday, September 08, 2013

Low Key Sunday

The kids were up fairly early, and came in and out of the room a couple of times. Bud got started on the second book of the trilogy that M-lady got for him, and Buster kept himself busy with Lego for a good part of the morning. M-lady was up around 8:30, and I got myself up around 9:30.

I headed out for a bike ride. M-lady was nice enough to watch the kids, and they did piano practice and lunch while I was out. I got back around 2:30, and found M-lady and the kids snacking on popcorn. I had a quick lunch, cleaned up, and spent some time hanging out with the kids. M-lady headed out to run some errands in the later afternoon, and I took the kids to do the grocery shopping a little before 5:00. There was some brief grumbling about having to go, but they were good during the trip, and helped out at the store.

M-lady made some dinner, and Ama and Agu showed up just in time. They packed up some of their things and headed back to their house after dinner, with the intent to stay the night there for the first time. I suspect they'll be back and forth a bit for the next week or so.

After dinner, the kids played on the Wii for a while, and then did the usual snack and bedtime routine. I had fun reading with Buster at bedtime, and we turned the lights out around 8:30.

Special Beach Trip

Buster has been angling for a trip to the beach, and today was the day. He woke up excited, and was good about letting me sleep in a little, but was pretty anxious to go early on. M-lady headed out to ballet at about 8:30, and I started getting ready a few minutes later. Bud stayed with Ama and Agu, and headed over to their house with them a little later in the morning. Buster and I finally rolled out around 9:30.

We had about an hour drive to to the coast, so I let Buster watch a DVD for some of the drive. We had a nice chat during other parts of the drive, however, but he was getting anxious to arrive after 45 minutes or so. We finally arrived at about 10:30, got sunscreened up, grabbed our stuff, and wandered out onto the sand.

Buster was anxious to build a sandcastle, and started on that immediately by filling a bucket and turning it over. Unfortunately, he filled it with dry sand, which just made a pile of sand. I walked him down to the wet sand and we tried again, with a bit more success.

Buster really enjoyed playing in the (low) surf, with waves coming up to his knees. I stayed with him most of the time, but he did manage to get knocked over once. Didn't seem to bug him too much, though, and he was back out there shortly. We played in the sand and surf, had some lunch, played a little more, and eventually packed up and de-sanded to come home at about 1:30 or so.

Everyone was over at Ama and Agu's house when we go home, so I showered with Buster and then we headed over to meet them. Cousin C, Aunt O, and Uncle C arrived a short time later, and the kids had a good time watching movies and playing together. We decided to all have dinner together in the new house.

The kids played with Uncle C outside for a bit, and then Buster and Cousin C watched another movie while Bud joined Uncle C, Aunt O, and me in a game of SmallWorld. Bud did pretty well, and we had a good time. The game and the movie were both interrupted by dinner, but we finished both before packing up and heading for home.

We got home around 8:00, and started the bedtime routine. I watched a few videos with Bud before turning out the light, and we had a nice chat for a bit after the light went out.

Friday Night Anticipation

The routine today was pretty standard. M-lady took the kids to school, and then met them at piano (which Nanny J took them to). Since they've got two lessons back-to-back now, they don't get home until shortly after 6:00. I already had dinner set up when they got home, and we started the movie a short time later.

The kids ate well, and we watched until snack time. Buster started getting antsy at that point, looking forward to our beach trip planned for the next day. We managed to get through snack and bedtime, but he was starting to bounce off the walls as he got into PJs. He eventually mellowed out a bit, and fell asleep sometime after 9:00.

Double Back To School Night

Both kids were a little slow to get up this morning, but eventually got dressed and headed downstairs, where Ama and Agu got them some breakfast. M-lady took them to school as I got on my bike to ride to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day at school. Buster was really anxious to build his Pleygo set we received in the mail yesterday, and got on it as soon as he got home, putting off lunch until he was finished. The kids both went to TKD this afternoon, and apparently did pretty well. Buster still hadn't taken his bath when I got home around 5:15, but was bathing a short time later.

M-lady was already home when I arrived, and I had just had a few to take a quick shower before she and I headed over to the kids' school for Back To School night. We first visited Buster's classroom, heard the general plans for the year, and then headed over to Bud's classroom, where we heard the 3rd grade version. It was a very informative evening, but we didn't get home until about 8:00.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and started getting the kids ready for bed. They'd had a snack, so we helped them into PJs and read stories. Buster was up and about a bit after his official bedtime: after turning off Bud's light, I found Buster lying in the hallway. And later in the evening, after M-lady and I came back upstairs, we found Buster asleep in our bed. M-lady was able to relocate him without waking him up, though.

Missed Riding Night

The kids weren't up when M-lady and I got up this morning, but were pretty good about getting out of bed and getting ready. Ama and Agu are still staying with us, and got breakfast for the kids, which is still a treat for M-lady and me. M-lady had to head out a little early this morning, so I took the kids to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Nanny J picked them up from school, and took them to their later TKD class. I picked them up from TKD, and we had a pleasant drive home. Unfortunately, the traffic was heavy enough that I decided to stay home with them rather than get to my cycling event late. So I enjoyed an evening with the kids rather than on the bike.

I'd already eaten in preparation for racing, but Ama and Agu and Nanny J had prepared a great dinner, so I had a few bites. Bud ate really well, and Buster ate solidly. After dinner, Bud wrapped up his homework, while Buster did his piano practice. Bud switched to piano after a brief break, and Buster played on the Wii until snack time.

After snack, I helped Buster get ready for bed, read a story with him, and had a little iPad time. We chatted a little bit after turning out the light, and he fell asleep fairly quickly. I enjoyed my time with the kids tonight, as usual, and didn't really miss racing much at all.

Beginning of a Short Week

M-lady was up around 7:00, and Buster came in and crawled into our bed a few minutes later. When I got up around 7:30, I convinced Buster to get dressed before we rested for a few more minutes and then headed down to get some breakfast. Ama and Agu and M-lady left a little early to supervise the movers bringing Ama and Agu's stuff to their new house, so I finished up the morning routine with the kids and took them to school.

Nanny J returned today after her month away, and picked the kids up from school. She took them to TKD, and brought some treats for them. I got home around 5:30, helped her get Buster's old car seat out of her car, and said goodbye with the kids around 5:45. We hung out for a bit, then had some dinner a little before 6:30.

M-lady arrived home as we were eating, and after dinner Bud was good about doing his homework and Buster did his piano practice. After a little break, Bud worked on his piano, and Buster played some Wii. Snack time came up fairly quickly, and I supervised some fruit and a treat for each from the goodies Nanny J brought.

Bud and I hung out at bedtime, and chatted a bit about the upcoming week and our weekend plans for the first part of the month.

Day 3 of the Long Weekend

The kids were up a little later, around 8:00 or so, but kept themselves busy all morning playing with Lego. Buster wanted to build a Mario Kart track, and Bud helped him. They created a pretty impressive track with suitable obstacles, which M-lady and I admired when we got up closer to 10:00.

M-lady and the kids headed downstairs to get some breakfast, and I headed outside to work on the house for a bit, closing up holes in the crawlspace vents. After I came in, I spent time sorting out issues we started having with Quicken this weekend. I joined the family as they were wrapping up lunch, and had some for myself before finishing up the Quicken work.

The kids played in the afternoon, and then around 3:30 we headed over to visit Cousin C. The kids played together (loudly) for a little over an hour before we packed up again and came home for dinner. Ama had put together some stew for dinner, which Bud gobbled up and Buster was good about trying. After dinner, both kids tackled quick piano practice and picking up the house a bit for the cleaners tomorrow.

After getting some chores done, Buster sat down in front of the Wii to play some Mario Kart, and Bud and M-lady and I played a game of Ticket To Ride on the ipads. After the game, Bud and I joined Buster for a couple of races before snack time came up.

The kids had a quick snack, showered, and got ready for bed. I read a couple Boynton books with Buster before we played a few minutes on the iPad, and turned the light out around 8:30. Hopefully he gets a solid night's sleep and is ready for school again tomorrow morning.

Delayed Movie Night

The morning was fairly standard weekend fare, with the kids getting up around 8:00ish and jumping in bed with us for a while before running downstairs to get some breakfast. M-lady was off a bit after 9:00 for her ballet class, and I was up a short time later. We had a pretty mellow morning, and were having some lunch when M-lady returned.

I headed out to run some errands a short time later, and dragged the boys along with me. We hit Home Depot first, and although they protested that they didn't like the place, I think they enjoyed seeing things in there once we were inside. We found the stuff I was looking for, and headed off to a game store to try and find a copy of Small World.

We didn't find the game, but had fun at the game store and the nearby card store. We headed home after that, and the kids stayed home while I made another foray out to try to find the game. The kids did their piano while I was out, and it was getting near dinner time when I got back.

We did our movie night this evening, and I put on Brave as I said I would last week. The kids were a little hesitant at first, but I think they ended up enjoying the movie. We all watched together, ate dinner, and had a good time. The movie wrapped up around snack time, so the kids had a snack and we got ready for bed.

I played a couple games of Ticket To Ride with Bud on the iPad before we turned out the lights, and split the games. It's definitely a fun one, and Bud's got a good grasp of the game now.
