Slurpees

I was up and out of the house for a bike race before 6:00, and M-lady was kind enough to watch the kids for the morning. They apparently had a good time, and were just having some lunch when I got home a little after 12:00.

After I'd showered and had my own lunch, I let the kids watch some TV. After their show ended, we rested for a short time before I loaded the kids up and we headed over to 7-Eleven for Slurpees: a fantastic treat for a hot day. We came home and drank the Slurpees outside, and Bud and I got started on constructing the gazebo for the grill which Aunt O and Uncle C gave me for my birthday. We got to a point where we needed to carry it out of the garage and into the back yard, and took a break, waiting for the day to cool a bit.

I snoozed for a bit, and M-lady got dinner together. Everyone ate pretty well, and after dinner Bud and I tackled the gazebo. He helped quite a bit with the construction, and we managed to get it all put together by about 8:15.

Meanwhile, Buster had passed out on the playroom floor. We weren't able to rouse him, so I carried him up to bed where M-lady tucked him in. Bud and I had a snack and he did his standard bedtime routine, and M-lady tucked him in as well before turning out the light a bit after 9:00.

Buster slept through the night, so I guess he just needed the extra rest.

Daddy Birthday

The kids and M-lady let me sleep in a bit, which as nice. When they got me up a bit before 10:00, they sat me down and brought me cards and gifts, which were really nice. Both kids drew cool cards, and Bud made a Lego trophy/sculpture for me, with Star Wars minifigs inside.

I made some breakfast for the kids, and we had a pretty mellow late morning. It was a really hot day, so we tried to spend most of it inside. Around 1:30 we headed out to get groceries, and then dropped off M-lady and the food at home while the kids and I went out to pick up my birthday cake.

We got home a few minutes before Aunt O and Cousin C arrived. They brought some play light sabers with them, and the three kids played together happily and energetically for about the next 5 hours, with a short break for dinner and cake.

Cousin C and his family headed out around 7:30, which basically took us to snack and bed time. I watched a bit more of Return of the Jedi with Bud before we turned the lights out at about 9:15.

Off To The Races

The kids woke a few minutes after we did, which was just about right. Buster took a little persuading to get going, but was willing after a few minutes. The kids were ready to go on time, and I took them to their last day of TKD camp.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I arrived home around 5:30, shortly after M-lady. We had snacks and packed up after saying goodbye to Nanny J, and I got the kids sunscreened. When everyone was set, we headed out to the velodrome to watch the big event of the year, the Hellyer Velodrome Challenge.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the races. We watched a couple of Keirin heats, and a long points race, and about half of another long points race before the kids and M-lady got a little antsy. The kids had snacks during the event, but they were hungry for dinner, so we grabbed some food on the way home.

It was pretty late when we got home, so we showered the kids and put them straight to bed. Buster's lights were out around 9:30, and Bud a short time later. I chatted with both kids a bit, and they seem to have enjoyed watching the bike races. I had a great time, and thanked everyone for coming out to watch with me.

Car Talk

The kids were up a little early this morning, and pretty good about getting ready when the time came. M-lady headed off to work shortly before 8:00, so I got the kids fed and ready to go. The power went out in the house around 7:15 this morning and didn't come back on until around 10:00, but it didn't really effect our morning routine.

The kids and I chatted about cars on the way to TKD, and I described the cars I've owned in my life, as well as different kinds of engines (we didn't get to Wankel rotaries, but did cover most common cylinder configurations). Both kids seemed pretty interested. Once we got to TKD, I helped them into their sparring gear before heading off to work.

I got home around 5:15, and the kids were playing quietly. It was a hot day, and the house was coolest upstairs where the AC was on. We said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45, and the kids and I rested until 6:30, when M-lady got home and we started on dinner.

The kids ate pretty well, and Buster played on the Wii afterward while Bud did his piano. After piano, Bud and I continued our game of Arkham Horror (which we're losing badly) until snack time.

Bud and I started watching Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi at bedtime. We got through the Jabba's Palace opening, and Bud seems to be enjoying it so far.

Catching Up On Scores

Buster crawled in bed with us fairly early again this morning, but was good about getting up. M-lady got breakfast for the kids, which was nice. I helped tie belts and comb hair, and then took the kids to TKD camp.

We listened to the Raiders soundtrack, and Bud asked who John Williams was. I told him a bit, and discovered that the kids haven't been exposed to the music from E.T., Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, or even Jaws. We'll have to pull some of that music up, if not the movies. Fortunately, the kids know the Raiders, Harry Potter, and Star Wars music.

I raced my bike at the track in the evening again, and got home just as M-lady and Bud were turning his light out. I got to chat with Bud for a couple minutes before saying goodnight. It seemed he had a good day, and I'll catch up with the kids again tomorrow morning.

All Minions, All The Time

Buster crawled into bed with us around 6:15am, and promptly fell asleep. When M-lady and I got up around 7:45, it was tough to rouse Buster. Eventually we got him up, and the kids had breakfast and got dressed. They had to hustle a little bit, and there wasn't any extra time before I loaded them up and took them to TKD.

They apparently had a good day at TKD, and then had fun playing outside with the hose again in the afternoon. I got home around 5:30, and they were 'cooking' again in the playroom. M-lady arrived a short time later, and we got started on dinner after saying goodbye to Nanny J and a short rest.

The kids both ate solid dinners, and then played for a few minutes while M-lady and I wrapped up our dinners. The kids were anxious to watch more specials from Despicable Me, so we did that until snack time. Buster pretended to be a minion and asked for a 'bapple' at snack time.

After snack, Bud did a quick piano practice while Buster got ready for bed. I read a story with Buster, and then we played a new game on the iPad called Minion Rush until bedtime. Buster was asleep within ten minutes of turning out the light.

Mini Minion Movies

The kids were up around 6:00 the past two days, but I couldn't drag them out of bed at 8:00 this morning. Eventually they got going (Bud was easier to roust than Buster), and I took them to TKD camp. They were excited by the time we got there, and I headed off to work afterward.

Apparently the kids played outside in the hose again today, even though (or perhaps because) it was a bit cloudy and rainy today. Bud scared up their water shoes from last year, since their new ones were still wet from the last time they played in the water. After playing, they both took showers.

M-lady arrived home a little early, and took Bud to his piano lesson. It's his last lesson until August, and he and M-lady are implementing a lighter piano practice load for the summer. I had a later meeting, but traffic getting home was virtually non-existent, so made it home about 6:15.

We had dinner together, and Buster tried the baked pasta for the first time. It's also the first time he's tried noodles with sauce on them, and he seemed to think it was OK. He ate pretty well. I'm looking forward to not having to pull separate noodles and sauce for him.

After dinner, we all sat down with the new Despicable Me Blu-ray disc which arrived, and spent the rest of the evening watching specials. There were three short movies, which we all enjoyed. Buster wanted to see some of his favorite moments from the movie as well, which took us all the way to snack time.

The kids had a quick snack, and then we did bedtime. Bud and I wrapped up watching The Empire Strikes Back before bed, and he's anxious now (as everyone is) to see Episode VI, even though he knows most of the story. We'll start that soon.

Early Wakeup

The kids were up and bouncing in our bed loudly from shortly after 6:00 this morning, which ended up making both M-lady and myself a little bit grumpy. We rolled out of bed around 8:45, and M-lady got the kids breakfast while I got ready for a bike ride.

I rolled out shortly after 9:30, just as Uncle C was dropping off Cousin C to play for the morning. I had a nice ride, and got back just as Cousin C was getting picked up again. The kids had a pretty good time playing together, and I set about getting some lunch for the kids after taking a shower while M-lady rested.

Bud ate well, while Buster delayed lunch. After I'd finished eating, I took the kids back to the grocery store, where we picked up a couple of items that had slipped through yesterday. The kids were pretty good about hitting the grocery store, and we were back shortly after 3:00.

The kids spent time playing outside (it was cooler and cloudy today), and M-lady took off with a car full of donations to take them to Goodwill. The kids eventually came in and had a snack, and we were just wrapping up when M-lady returned.

Bud did his piano practice, and Buster helped me make dinner. Dinner was ready at about 5:30, and we all ate well. After dinner, the kids and I set up a game of Arkham Horror, and got into it a few turns before snack time came up.

I make milkshakes for a treat for snack time, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. After snacking, we did a pretty straightforward bedtime routine. I watched Despicable Me minion videos with Buster, and we played on the iPad a little before turning the light out. I had a little talk with him about what time it was OK to come into our room in the morning, and about jumping on our bed, so we'll see what happens tomorrow morning.

Very Mellow Day

The kids were up and in our bed by about 7:00 this morning, and were in and out for a while. M-lady got up around 8:00, and headed out to her ballet class. I got up shortly after she left, at about 8:45, and got some breakfast for the kids.

I invited the kids to learn how to make roll-up pancakes, and they helped mix the batter. I showed them how I cooked them, but they weren't really interested in working with the hot stove yet. They ate well, and after breakfast played for a bit.

I was planning on taking the kids with me to the grocery store at about 11:00, but M-lady arrived home at that time. The kids opted to go with her to the library instead, so I did the grocery run alone. I got back a little before they did, and got the groceries unloaded.

We all had some lunch together, and then spent some time after lunch just sort of hanging out. The kids played on the Xbox for a bit, Buster fell asleep for about an hour, and Bud spent time reading some of the library books he picked up earlier. Around 4:00 I headed out to Home Depot for a little while, and M-lady put dinner in the oven while I was out.

M-lady made a second run to the grocery store when I got back, and the kids played outside while I worked in the garage for a little while. Dinner was ready shortly after M-lady returned, and we had a pretty good meal, although Buster stalled for a bit. Bud did a good job with his piano, and after finishing his dinner, Buster played Mario Kart for a few minutes. Snack time rolled up, and I got Buster showered after he finished up.

Bud and I watched a bit more of The Empire Strikes Back before bed, which we're both enjoying so far.

New Belts

I took the kids to TKD camp this morning, and we practiced the kids oral questions for their belt tests on the way. They seemed to have them locked down, so I wasn't worried about the test. I expected them to test today, and then get the belts on Monday.

A few of the parents were asked to stay today, however, and they did abbreviated tests with the board break and the oral questions for some of the students. Bud did a beautiful break with a spinning hook kick, and both kids did great on their oral questions. They then both got promoted: Buster got his blue belt, and Bud advanced to light red belt senior.

I headed off to work after they were awarded their belts, and caught up with them again when I got home around 5:30. Nanny J had already left, and M-lady was home. I brought dinner with me, but it wasn't a 'sit in front of the TV' kind of dinner, so we ate fairly quickly and then repaired to the couch to watch Despicable Me. None of us had seen it, but we all really enjoyed the film. Buster in particular liked the minions.

We had snack and bed time as usual, and I watched a few minion videos with Buster on YouTube before we turned the lights out. He was pretty happy with those, and was still giggling when we turned out the light.

Nappish

The kids came in around 7:00 again, and M-lady and I rolled out of bed around 7:45. I got the kids breakfast, and urged them into their TKD uniforms. M-lady headed out around the same time we did.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home around 5:30, and found Buster passed out in our room on the floor. Bud was reading a book in there as well. Apparently the kids had a good day at TKD, then had a lot of fun playing with the hose in the backyard. They'd gotten themselves soaked, then came in and took showers.

M-lady arrived home at 5:45, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids let us know that they had earned the right to test for the next TKD belts tomorrow, so we drilled their oral questions a little bit later in the day. We all rested for a few minutes, and then I instigated dinner. Buster was a bit tough to rouse, but eventually he joined us at the table and ate a bit.

After dinner, Bud did his piano, and I turned on Boom Blox for Buster. When Bud was done, he and I watched a little bit of an episode of Dragons: Riders of Berk before snack time.

Snacks were straightforward, and we did a usual bedtime routine. Bud and I watched a bit more of Empire Strikes Back, and turned out the light around 9:00. Buster was still up (probably due to his nap), so I went and sat with him for a few minutes as well.

Water Fight

The kids were a little more considerate this morning, and Buster came in at the crack of 7:00 (which was when we said it was OK to come into our room). Bud slept in until about 7:30, when one of the fire alarms started chirping its low battery warning.

After fixing that issue, we had a fairly standard morning. The kids had breakfast and got dressed, and I took them to their TKD camp, where they joined in the pre-class playing immediately. They apparently had a good time at camp, and Nanny J picked them up around noon.

I got home around 5:30, and both kids were taking a bath. I was informed when they got out that they had been playing with the hose in the backyard, and had gotten a bit wet. They seem to have had a pretty good time.

I got some dinner together while the kids played a board game with each other, and we all ate around 6:30. The kids ate pretty well, although Bud complained of a tummy ache afterward. Bud did a good piano practice after dinner, and the kids spent some time playing Boom Blox together before snack time.

Snack and bed time were pretty standard, and I read stories with Buster before we turned out the light at 8:30.

Way Too Early

I set my alarm for about fifteen minutes later than usual, since we leave about 15 minutes after our usual school departure time. That sets my alarm for 7:45, which isn't too early. Buster jumped into bed with us about 6:00, though ready to play, and Bud wasn't far behind.

They kids were generally rambunctious all morning, and M-lady got up around 7:30 to get them breakfast. I rolled out of bed when my alarm went off, and helped the kids get dressed. We still had extra time before we needed to head out, so Buster and I snuggled for about ten minutes. We left the house around 8:30, and I dropped the kids off by 9:00.

The kids seem to have had a good day at TKD camp. Buster was having his second bath of the day when I got home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45. Buster and I spent a little time playing a board game together, and Bud and I read some Star Wars Trivial Pursuit cards, before we started on dinner around 6:30.

The kids ate well, and Bud was good about doing his piano practice after dinner. We talked about seeing if we could find the Star Wars Imperial March sheet music, so I should probably look for that tonight. After Bud had handled his piano, the kids and I played a little bit of Wii and watched a little bit of TV before getting started on snack time.

The kids were pretty good about getting ready for bed, and I read a story to Buster before giving him an iPad to play with for about 10 minutes. M-lady arrived home from her ballet class at about 8:30, just as Buster was going to bed. She snuggled with him for a few minutes while I started watch Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back with Bud. We only got through the first 15 minutes, but he seemed to like it so far.

First Camp

Buster was up a few minutes early, and I rolled out of bed around 7:30 and got Bud up. The kids ate breakfast before getting into their TKD uniforms, and had about 20 minutes to run around before we loaded up with all their pads and gear and I took them to TKD camp.

We arrived shortly after 9:00, and the kids started running around the dojang after dropping their bag. They apparently had a good day, and Nanny J picked them up at noon, bringing them home for lunch and a shower.

I picked up a last piece of safety equipment for Buster on the way home, a cup, as the kids will start sparring tomorrow. I arrived home a few minutes before 5:00, and just had time to say hello to M-lady and Bud before they headed out for a piano lesson. Buster kept himself entertained with Nanny J, and I was able to snooze for a little while.

When I woke, M-lady and Bud had gotten back and M-lady had prepared dinner. We all ate together, and Bud ate well while Buster deferred a bit. After dinner, I played some Trivial Pursuit with the kids (Bud read questions, and I answered), and then watched a little TV before snack time. Buster finished up his dinner before having a snack, and I helped him get ready for bed.

Buster and I read stories until we turned out the light at 8:30. I chatted with him a little about his day after we turned the light out, and left him to go to sleep around 8:45.

Happy Father's Day

With M-lady's encouragement this morning, the kids were pretty good about letting me sleep in. They only woke me once or twice, showing off their new Lego sets. M-lady spent a chunk of the morning preparing brunch, and the family rolled me out of bed with cards and presents a little before 10:00.

Aunt O and Cousin C arrived a short time later, and the adults had some brunch while the kids played. Uncle C arrived a short time later, and joined us. The kids were tempted by the french toast and berries before too long, and ate as well.

We hung out together the rest of the morning, and the kids had a great time playing together outside for a while. The kids took a break for lunch, and then Buster and Cousin C played on the Xbox for a little while as I played a game of Magic with Bud. Our guests took their leave in the early afternoon.

I made some phone calls in the early afternoon, and the kids were good about wishing the right people Happy Father's Day. They spent some time playing on the Xbox while I chatted. After the phone calls were wrapped up, I got started on making dinner: this time with more time, and I made some good pizza dough. Bud spent a little time out back while I got dinner together, while Buster worked on his Lego a little more.

We all had a nice dinner, and everyone seemed to like the pizza. After dinner, Bud did his piano while Buster got back to his Lego model, and I spent a little time watching the basketball game. Bud joined me, and we ended up watching a chunk of the movie we'd started the other night, Hercules. Buster even joined us for some of the film.

We stopped for snack time, and then spent bedtime getting ready for bed and doing a little bit of prep for TKD camp starting tomorrow. I made sure the kids pads were packed and labeled, and after the kids were put in bed, M-lady stepped out to pick up some snack granola bars for them. Buster was a bit wound up, and I caught him sneaking out of bed a couple of times after lights out. I sat with him after 9:00 for a short time, and he seemed to settle down.

Thanks everyone for a wonderful Father's Day, and I hope all the father's out there had a happy one!

Lego Dreams

The kids were pretty good about letting us sleep in a little bit this morning, and came and snuggled occasionally. M-lady was up and off by about 8:30 to head to ballet class, and I got up a short time later to get some breakfast for the kids. We hung out together for a while, and at about 10:45 I got them loaded up to take Bud to a birthday party.

We dropped Bud off, and Buster and I decided to go out to lunch together. We ended up at McDonald's, where Buster ate a solid meal and convinced me that he should get a chocolate shake as well. We took that home, where we found M-lady just arriving as we were taking our shoes off.

I headed out to Fry's a short time later, and M-lady and Buster went to pick up Bud. They were all at home when I returned, and M-lady ran a quick errand while the boys and I relaxed together. We played on iPads for a little while, and then M-lady and I napped a bit when she got back. The kids spent a chunk of the afternoon building a barricade in the living room and playing Les Mis.

We all headed out to the grocery store in the later afternoon, and the kids played outside when we returned. I took a shot at homemade pizza (with crust from scratch), which turned out edible if not great. After dinner, we all loaded up and headed to the mall, where the kids had been anxious to go all day to spend their allowance on new Lego sets.

We ran a couple of errands at the mall, and the kids got their sets. It was 8:30 when we got home, though, so the kids didn't have time to play with the new sets: they just had snacks, showers, and crawled into bed. I read a couple of stories with Buster before we turned out the light a bit after 9:00. I'm sure the kids will tear into their sets first thing in the morning.

Dentist Again

The kids are on break now, and enjoying it, but they needed to get up this morning for a dentist appointment. I helped motivate them and got them some breakfast, and helped Buster brush his teeth before taking the kids off to their appointment. Bud went first, and did a great job, and Buster was brave after his brother went. Both kids did fine.

I brought the kids home after their appointment, and left them in Nanny J's charge. I stayed at home to work today, as I seem to have caught another cold. The kids were in and out of the room a little bit, but Nanny J took them on an errand a little bit before lunchtime, so I had a break.

They got back at about 12:30, bearing fruit from the store. They had some lunch, and seemed to keep themselves entertained for the majority of the day. Buster checked in on me a couple of times, but generally had a good time played with Bud. M-lady arrived home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later.

The kids had been playing 'chef', cooking up dishes made out of blocks and serving them. After getting dinner in the oven, I let Buster serve me a meal and played with him for a while. We eventually selected a movie, and all sat down and watched it together over dinner. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed, and the kids had Jell-O at snack time. I watched a bit of a video with Bud before we turned the lights out shortly after 9:00.

Off To The Office

I got up a little early this morning, and checked on Buster's toe, as he was up, too. We put a fresh band-aid on, and I got ready to head out. I headed up to the city to go to WWDC for a day, while M-lady waiting at home for Nanny J.

Nanny J, unfortunately, called in sick, so M-lady handled the kids all day. She needed to go into the office briefly, and the kids were really excited to go. They were apparently really well behaved, and enjoyed getting lunch at the office. They didn't get to go to TKD today, but didn't seem to upset.

I got home around 5:30, and the kids played outside for a few minutes before I got some dinner ready. We all ate, and Bud did his piano practice after dinner. Buster was anxious to play a different game on the Wii: he'd found Boom Blox, and so we all played that until snack time. Buster had a little trouble with the aiming, but seemed to have fun in any case.

The kids had popsicles at snack time, and I read stories and watched a few videos with Buster before bed. We watched a couple of Lego set reviews on Youtube which Buster really enjoyed, and he cracked up at a couple of the jokes. We turned the light out a little late, and he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Official Summer Start

M-lady and I rolled Bud out for his last day of school around 7:30, and I helped Bud get some breakfast and combed his hair for him. M-lady took him to school while I hung out with Buster. Bud and M-lady had an end-of-the-year breakfast with Bud's class before M-lady headed off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Bud's day was short, and he came home around lunch time. M-lady had packed a snack for him, and unfortunately he left his lunchbox at school: We'll have to pick it up when the office opens next week.

Nanny J brought the kids to the later TKD class, where I met them. I got the pads Buster will need for TKD camp next week, and we came home after their class. Both kids were pretty upbeat, and we had a nice chat on the way home. I dropped them off with M-lady and headed out to race at the velodrome.

The kids reportedly had a good evening with M-lady. Buster stubbed his toe on the stairs, and ripped his toenail a little bit, but they got his foot wrapped up before he went to bed. I'll take a look at his toenail tomorrow morning to see if anything needs to be cleaned up.

Bud was still up when I got home about 9:15, and I got to chat with him for a few minutes before lights-out time. He got his yearbooks at school today (one for the school, and one for his class), and I had a quick look at them with him before turning out the light.

Kartin' It Up

I rolled Bud out of bed this morning, and he was pretty good about getting ready for school. M-lady took him to school while I hung out with Buster, who was sort of slow getting up. Buster was still in his PJs, reading a book when Nanny J arrived around 8:45. I headed out to bike to work a few minutes later.

I got home at 5:45, and found the kids hanging out with Nanny J. Bud had a good penultimate day as a second grader, and Buster had enjoyed the day off. They'd gone to TKD in the afternoon, and Buster had just gotten out of the bath. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I took a shower.

The kids played some Mario Kart while I ate my dinner, and then I got dinner for the kids. They ate well, and afterward Bud was good about doing his piano practice. The kids and I both played a little more Mario Kart together before doing snack time.

The kids had their usual snack, and then started getting ready for bed. I helped Buster, and then read some stories with him and watched a few videos on the iPad before we turned out the light at about 8:30. M-lady arrived home right at that time, and she spent a little time hanging out with Buster after she showered. I played on iPads with Bud until we turned his light out at about 9:00.

Sportsmanship

I helped roll Bud out of bed a little after 7:30, and let Buster sleep a bit. Buster woke around 7:45, and snuggled with M-lady before getting going. He was still in his pajamas when I took Bud to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home shortly after 5:00, while Buster was taking a bath. Bud is done with homework for the year, so the evening was pretty relaxed. M-lady got home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45.

The kids ate a good dinner, and afterward played for a little while before Bud wrapped up his piano practice and I did a puzzle with Buster. When Bud had finished up, the kids sat down to play some Mario Kart Wii.

They played until snack time. While they were eating their snacks, I had a little talk with them about sportsmanship, and what they should say to each other after a race, as they're starting to get a little competitive. I pointed out that it's not OK to say things that hurt the other person's feelings, like, "I did better than you." You leave it at "Good Game" and/or complement the other player on what they did well, be that winning or a particularly good move during the game. They both seemed to get it.

I helped get Buster ready for bed, and then watched the very last episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender with Bud. We discovered that there's a new series which has started recently, which we'll try to view at some point. But we agreed the end of the series was entirely satisfactory.

Mouthguards

The kids were in and out of our bed this morning, and fairly rambunctious. They're getting too big for them both to be in bed with us at the same time, particularly since it's almost impossible for them to lie still. They start wrestling with each other pretty quickly, and M-lady and I tend to take collateral damage.

M-lady was up early enough to head out to her ballet class, and I got up a few minutes later to get started on breakfast for the kids. They ate a solid breakfast, and after I cleaned up we all played some Mario Kart Wii. Interestingly enough, Buster is clearly better than Bud at the game right now. Given how competitive Bud is, I wasn't sure how that would go over, but they both seem to be enjoying playing, and Bud hasn't rage-quit yet.

We had lunch shortly after M-lady arrived home. We were running low on provisions, but the kids were happy with what we had. After lunch, I had the kids try on Bud's TKD sparring pads which he acquired last summer for TKD camp: they still fit Bud OK, and are a little big for Buster. I'll talk to the teachers at the studio and see if they know of any smaller pads.

I packed the kids up, and we headed out to get good mouthguards for the kids. We found what I was looking for pretty quickly, and picked up two good mouthguards, even in different colors. We hit the grocery store after getting the mouthguards, and made it home around 3:30.

I spent the next hour or so working with the kids to get the mouthguards fitted. Bud had done it last summer, but his first attempt didn't go in straight, so we had to remold a couple of times. For Buster, his mouth wasn't big enough to accommodate the whole mouthguard, so we had to cut it down to fit. It took a couple of tries with him, but we eventually got a good fit. Both boys were satisfied with their guards, and put them with their TKD gear.

The kids and I watched a little bit of TV before dinner, which M-lady prepared. The kids ate well, and after dinner we headed outside. I worked in the garage while the kids played, and we headed back in at snack time. I'd picked up popsicles at the grocery store, and the kids were excited to have them for snacks, along with some fruit.

I helped Buster get ready for bed while Bud did a piano practice, and then read stories with Buster until bedtime. We stayed up a little bit late, around 8:45, since he doesn't have school tomorrow.

Easy Evening

The kids were up and bouncing in our bed around 8:00ish. Buster brought a huge number of stuffed animals to make a 'snuggle pile', but eventually the kids vacated to go play somewhere else for a bit. I rolled out of bed around 9:00, and got started on getting some breakfast for them.

We all took it easy after breakfast for a bit, getting ready sort of slowing. I spent a little time with Bud showing him how to fold a crane, as he seems to have picked up an interest in origami recently. Eventually M-lady got the kids together and they headed over to visit Cousin C, Aunt O, and Uncle C, and I packed up my bike and headed off to the track for a sprint clinic.

The kids and M-lady apparently had a good day hanging out with the extended family, had a nice lunch, and had mini root beer floats. We all got back home around the same time, near 5:00. After I took a shower, I got started on making a simple dinner. The kids ate well, and Bud did a bit of a piano practice after dinner.

The kids asked to play MarioKart, so I fired up the Wii and let them play that until snack time. We had a quick snack, and then I bathed Buster and got him into PJs. M-lady read stories with Buster, and I watched more of the last episode of Avatar with Bud. Looking forward to finishing the series!

After bedtime, M-lady and I were watching a movie apparently a little bit too loudly. We found Buster awake and scared on the stairs. I comforted him and put him back to bed, and talked about the show we were watching (assuring him the good guys won), and then about what we were going to do tomorrow. I also let him know that he could come interrupt us if he was scared... he needn't sit on the stairs by himself. He fell asleep again before too long, and hopefully will be fine in the morning.

Water Day

Bud was up early this morning, and reading a magazine in our room when we got up. Buster had a slightly slow start, but once he realized today was 'water day' at school, he couldn't wait to get there. He got dressed in his swimsuit really quickly, and put his shoes on before breakfast. M-lady took Bud to school after breakfast, while I took Buster.

The kids seem to have had a good day at their schools school. M-lady arranged to pick up Buster from his last day at preschool, and they gave thank you notes and gifts to his teachers. Since Bud went to the same preschool, they've seen Buster since before he was a year old.

M-lady took Bud to an early piano class at 4:30, and I got home with a pizza for dinner around the same time they did, shortly after 5:00. I picked up the pizza from Pizza My Heart, which made Buster pretty excited since he'd had the field trip there recently.

After Nanny J left, we settled in front of Kung-Fu Panda and ate dinner. We finished the movie and watched specials until snack time. The kids had a solid snack, and then I read stories and played on the iPad with Buster until we turned the light out around 8:45.

Starting To Wrap Up School

The kids were in our room a few minutes before the alarm went off, Buster snuggling and Bud bounding around. Bud was good about getting dressed and ready, while Buster took a little bit more coaxing. They had breakfast, and played for a few minutes before M-lady took them to school. I got myself ready and biked to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. This was Buster's last day in Tues-Thurs preschool class, which has some different kids from his Mon-Wed-Fri class, so it was sort of a minor last day. He seemed OK with it, and both kids are excited for summer.

I got home around 5:30, as the kids were having a snack with Nanny J. They'd had a good time at TKD, where Bud reported he'd done very well with his kicks. I worked on homework with Bud (his last homework of the year), and we all had dinner together a short time later when M-lady got home.

The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner Bud did a brief piano practice. He's been taking a break from piano this week, and seems to be a little refreshed. Buster cleaned up the playroom a little and then played with a board game before snack time rolled around.

I watched some iPad video with Bud before we turned out the light. Bud and I have been watching the cartoon series of Avatar: The Last Airbender over the last year or so, and we started on the very last episode tonight. It's a huge episode, though, so we'll finish it up over the next few days.

A Little History, A Little Science

The kids were good about getting ready this morning, although Buster was a little slow to get dressed. In the time the kids usually play before I comb their hair and they get their shoes on, I sunblocked Bud for his park day at school. M-lady took the kids to school at the usual time.

Bud's class spent the morning at a nearby park, and had their lunches there. When they got back, they apparently got popsicles as a treat. The kids did the usual afternoon with Nanny J, and I picked them up from TKD.

M-lady needed to work late, so I brought the kids home and bathed Buster. After the bath, I got him some clothes, and then got started on dinner while Bud did his homework. Bud and I ate together, while Buster deferred a bit. Bud asked me to tell him stories about my side of the family over dinner, and we ended up talking about World War II a little bit: he hadn't really been exposed to that part of history, so I gave him a very brief synopsis.

Buster ate a solid dinner a bit later, and after the kids had eaten and I'd checked Bud's homework, we sat down in front of the TV for a few minutes. The kids asked to watch part of an episode of Nova, so we watched a little bit about the search for life on other planets before snack time.

The kids had a quick snack, and I helped Buster get ready for bed while Bud was taking a shower. Buster and I read some stories together, and then played on iPads until it was time to turn out the light. M-lady arrived home just as we were about to turn out the light to give Buster a kiss and then sit with Bud until his bedtime.

Sing Along

M-lady and I rolled the kids out of bed a little after 7:30, and they got themselves dressed. Buster lagged a little bit, but both kids were ready to go at the right time. I took Bud to school, while M-lady took Buster.

The kids seem to have had a good day, and did TKD in the afternoon. I got home shortly after 5:00, and the kids and Nanny J didn't get back for more than half an hour: they ran a little late as they needed to get gas on the way home, apparently. Nanny J gave Buster a bath, and took her leave as M-lady arrived home.

I snoozed for a few minutes, and Buster snuggled/jumped on me for a while. I headed downstairs around 6:30, and got started on dinner. M-lady and I ate quietly before the kids were ready to eat, which was pleasant. The kids joined us shortly, and both kids ate solid dinners.

Buster and I played a little Xbox before snack time. As snack time rolled around, M-lady started playing some of the Les Mis tunes on the piano, which drew both boys to sing. They did a few numbers together before having their snack.

I helped get Buster ready for bed, and then watched a video with Bud before we turned the light out at 9:00.

Learning About Pizza

I got up when the alarm went off at 7:30 this morning, and Buster crawled into bed with M-lady at that time. Bud was good about getting up and getting going, and Buster wasn't too slow. I got breakfast for the kids, and then took Bud to school.

I came back home, where M-lady was waiting with Buster, and got him ready for his field trip today. At about 9:00, we loaded up and I took him to the local Pizza My Heart, and met his class where they were gathering outside. I took my leave as the class was getting critical mass.

M-lady picked Buster up at 11:00, apparently wearing a (way too big) 'Pizza My Heart' t-shirt and carrying a personal cheese pizza which he'd made. They'd apparently had a pretty good time, and Buster told us all later about the oven, and the refrigerator, and how they made pizzas.

Nanny J arrived shortly, and M-lady headed to work. The kids seem to have had a pretty standard afternoon. I arrived home around 5:30, and M-lady a few minutes later.

Buster had eaten half his pizza when I got home, and he shared the pieces of the other half with the family. We all complimented his on his pizza, and then I got started on the dinner proper. Buster ate very well, but Bud only ate about half his dinner.

Bud finished up his homework, and the kids played outside for the remainder of the evening. I brought them back inside around 7:45, and we had snack. Buster had a light snack, but Bud finished his dinner. I did the bedtime routine with Buster, and we read a story before playing on the iPad for a while. Buster's reading is now to a point where I can just help him with the hard/ridiculous English words: he's able to read most of the "Easy Reader" books now.

Unstructured Play Time

The kids entertained themselves, playing with each other, almost the entire day. They were in and out a bit in the morning, and M-lady got up to facilitate breakfast. I was up for a bit mid-morning, and then helped out with lunch.

I ran into the kids playing as ninjas (not very stealthy ninjas, apparently), and I know they played a bit as Clone Troopers, and as adventurers (a la Indiana Jones). I suspect they went through quite a few other scenarios, as they played together, sometimes very loudly, for many hours.

I headed out around 2:00 to do the grocery shopping, and we had a nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B when I got back, with the kids in and out a little bit. After the call, M-lady and Bud ran an errand at Target, and Buster and I played a game of Magic together, and then read some stories.

Bud and M-lady returned with Bud's prize for a job well done for his piano recital, a Nerf dart pistol. We confiscated the ammo, though, to prevent darts from flying around the house. Bud was OK with that, Buster found a suitable sidearm for himself, and they went around shining the targeting lights.

We had dinner around 6:00, and both kids ate well. Buster's been eating quite a bit recently, apparently part of a growth spurt. After dinner, we all watched specials from Kung Fu Panda and Kung Fu Panda 2 before snack time. For snack, I'd put some lemonade in the popsicle molds, so the kids had lightsaber popsicles for a treat before getting ready for bed.

I put Bud to bed, and we played a game on the iPad before chatting a bit about summer plans after the light went out at 9:00.

A Commendable Performance

The kids were rambunctious this morning, as usual, so I took them downstairs a little after 8:00 so M-lady could snooze a bit more. After they'd watched an episode of Sesame Street, I made waffles, and M-lady came down and joined us for breakfast.

After breakfast we relaxed for a while. M-lady had Bud run through his performance pieces one more time, and after we all had a fairly spare lunch, we headed out to Bud's piano event where he would be performing his Suzuki Book 2 recital.

Bud did a great job with his performance, which included nine pieces and lasted about fifteen minutes. He had a couple of minor hiccups, but nothing major, and really performed very solidly. Buster was very patient through the performances as well, and after leaving we praised both boys.

We headed to the library, where the kids picked out some new books. Buster is really starting to be able to read, and we're excited to pick books which he'll put the effort into. We left the library laden with new books, and headed home.

Buster played on the Xbox when we arrived home, and Bud played with an iPad. They kept themselves entertained that way until we headed out to Red Robin for Bud's celebratory dinner. After a nice dinner, we walked over to Baskin Robbins, and everyone had a scoop of ice cream, which was great treat on a warm evening. We headed home shortly after, and the kids and I watched most of a movie before snack time.

I read a couple of new books with Buster at bedtime, and we had a nice time together before turning the light out a little after 8:30. M-lady let Bud stay up a little late as well.
