Two Different Reactions

The morning routine was very straightforward, and went the same way as the past couple mornings. The kids were up around 7:30, got dressed, and I got them some breakfast. M-lady headed out for work, and I took both kids to school in plenty of time.

M-lady arrived home a few minutes before me, and I made it in the door around 5:30. A few minutes after I made it home, a friend of mine from work who was in town arrived to hang out for the evening. Bud was snacking at the time, and hightailed it upstairs after snacking as Friend S and I chatted in the kitchen for a while.

Buster, on the other hand, zoomed in and out of the room, and eventually started bringing Lego constructs into the kitchen for Friend S to see. Friend S was appropriately impressed (he has several kids of his own), and Buster was fairly charged and nearby all evening.

Bud was good about doing his homework, and we all sat down to dinner together a bit before 7:00. Buster didn't eat much, and was buzzing in and out of the room. Bud sat and ate, but didn't really directly talk to Friend S much: he was more comfortable answering towards M-lady when Friend S asked him a question.

After a nice meal, we chatted a little bit more before Friend S left just before snack time. The kids snacked, and then Bud did his piano practice while I got Buster ready for bed. Buster and I played on the iPad for a bit before turning out the light around 8:30.

Good Kids

The kids were up this morning before I got up around 7:30. Bud was a little slow getting dressed, but the kids made it downstairs for breakfast, and we had a pretty good morning. I took the kids to school again while M-lady headed to the office a little early.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They had their later TKD class today, and I met them there when they finished around 5:30. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I brought the kids home. To their delight I brought a PowerBar from work for them to split on the way home.

I got Buster bathed when we got home, and Bud got started on his homework straightaway, since it was starting to get let. As Bud wrapped up his homework, I got started on getting some dinner together. Buster claimed he wasn't hungry, but ate well once we sat down together.

Bud did his piano practice after dinner, and I had Buster pick up Lego in the dining room (the dining room table has become a bit of a Lego repository). Bud was pretty efficient in his practice, and didn't really stall very much at all. After wrapping up his practice, the kids had time to play some Xbox together before snack time.

The kids had a good snack, and were then good about getting ready for bed. I went through Buster's oral TKD test questions with him, since he'll be testing on Friday, and then all three of us watched some Lego - Legends of Chima videos on the iPad. I tucked Buster in, and then went through Bud's questions with him before we played on the iPad a bit before turning out the light.

M-lady arrived home just as we turned out the light, and came a spent a little bit of time hanging out and chatting with Bud before he fell asleep.

Uneventful Tuesday

M-lady rolled the kids out shortly after we got up around 7:30. They were good about getting ready for school, and I took them both so M-lady could head to work a little early. We were able to get going in plenty of time, and the kids both made it to school in plenty of time.

The kids seem to have had good days at school, and then went to TKD in the afternoon. I arrived home around 5:30, and we said goodbye to Nanny J at 5:45. M-lady had dinner with her coworkers this evening, so it was me and the kids.

I got Bud started on his homework, and he was pretty efficient. We corrected a couple of items, and then went to all watch a little TV together (3D wildlife program). I got dinner together a little after that, and the kids ate pretty well.

After dinner, Bud did his piano practice while Buster bounced around the living room a bit. When Bud finished up, there was just time for them to play on the Xbox for about 15 minutes before snack and bedtime.

M-lady arrived home as I was sitting down to play on the iPad with Buster, so I turned him over to her and went to hang out with Bud. He played more of The Room, progressing fairly steadily, until it was time to turn the lights out at 9:00.

Back To Routine

The kids were up around 7:00 this morning, and we all rolled out of bed around 7:30. We did a standard morning routine, and the kids were ready to go by about 8:00. I took Bud to school, and M-lady took Buster.

The kids had a good day. M-lady arrived home before me, and was on the phone when I got home around 5:30. We said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45, and the kids busied themselves playing 'Revolution' for a bit while M-lady and I did some computer work and made some calls. Bud has been really into Les Mis recently, and he and Buster were hiding behind a barricade with muskets.

M-lady got dinner for the kids, and I joined them as they were finishing up. M-lady worked on Bud's homework with him while I played with Buster for a bit, and then after the kids had snack, M-lady got Buster ready for bed while I did piano with Bud.

After Bud was ready for bed, we hung out for a bit playing on the iPad. I introduced him to the game The Room, and we played that together until it was time to turn the lights out.

Pleasant Drive Home

Buster was up at 7:00, apparently starving. We all got up around 7:30 and headed down to the hotel breakfast, which was pretty good. Buster ate a lot, backing up his claims. After breakfast, we packed up and hit the road.

We all enjoyed the majesty of the mountains for a little while, and then the kids opted to watch a couple of movies on the drive. We stopped for lunch around noon, and made it home about 40 minutes later. Buster had just dropped off to sleep for the last 20 minutes of the drive.

When we got home, we unloaded, and M-lady started unpacking while I took Buster out and returned the rentals and had the car washed. We got back around 3:00ish, a short time before Aunt O and Cousin C arrived to hang out for a bit. The kids had a great time playing together.

Our guests left shortly before dinnertime, and M-lady and I got dinner together. Buster ate a light dinner, and afterward the kids sat down in front of the TV for a little while. Bud really enjoyed watching the Academy Awards, so after snack and shower, he headed downstairs with M-lady to watch some more. I played on the iPad with Buster after cleaning him up, and we turned the light out around 8:30. He was asleep within 10 minutes.

Everybody Skis!

M-lady and I were up early, and we packed the car before rolling the kids out at about 5:30 and loading up. We drove up to Tahoe, and I don't think the kids went back to sleep. M-lady and I took turns driving and napping. We stopped for potty breaks and had a quick breakfast north of Sacramento, but overall made pretty good time, arriving at the ski resort around 9:30. We hiked from our parking spot to the lodge, got the tickets we needed, and headed over to the bunny hill.

The hike was the hardest part of the day. For the first run, I skied with Buster between my skis, and M-lady coached Bud a bit. We did a bunch of runs, and M-lady and I switched off kids repeatedly. We stayed on the same beginner lift and runs all day, which worked out fine. We stopped for an early lunch, and managed to beat the crowd into the lodge and get a table.

After lunch we got back to it. Bud had to pee a lot today (just one of those days, I guess), but we were able to make it to the restroom in the lodge in time each time. I took a quick run up to a bigger slope while the kids munched Powerbars with M-lady in the early afternoon, and the kids decided to keep skiing rather than go tubing. We skied until about 3:30, and the kids were starting to tire out. Bud managed the final run without crashing (until the very end), so he felt pretty triumphant. Buster managed to get me to crash (almost squishing him) on the penultimate run, and he felt triumphant about that. So everyone was good.

We got back to the car, found our hotel and checked in, and then headed out to a local italian and pizza place. We got there before the rush, had a good meal, and then made our way back to the hotel. The kids played on iPads for a bit after showering, and we turned the lights out around 8:00. Everyone passed out, exhausted, after a very fun and successful day.

Prep Day

The kids and M-lady woke before 8:00, and were up and about when I got up a bit after 8:00. After getting myself ready, I headed off to work. M-lady took most of the day off work, and stayed home with the kids in the morning. She ran some errands during the day as well.

Nanny J arrived around noon. M-lady ran out to pick up the last few items we needed for the upcoming trip, and I headed home a little early to pick up the rental skis on the way. When I got home, around 4:00ish, I had the kids try on their boots and practice getting into and out of their bindings in the playroom.

M-lady arrived home, and the two of us did some packing. I managed to nap for about an hour at 5:30 or so, and then M-lady and I started getting ready to go out. Nanny J stepped out for a bit in the evening, but returned around 7:00 so M-lady and I could attend the Stanford Viennese Ball, which was held up in San Francisco. Nanny J got dinner for the kids and saw them to bed while we were out. We had a good time, and got back around midnight.

Continued Toy Popularity

The kids were up around 8:00 this morning, and headed downstairs immediately to continue playing with their new Chima Lego. I rolled out of bed a few minutes later, and headed off to work around 8:30, while M-lady waited for Nanny J to arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They went to TKD again, and did well, apparently. Buster didn't get 'credit' for the class, though, since he's currently an orange senior belt, and the class is supposedly for green belts and above. Buster will test for his green belt next week, though, and doesn't seem bothered by the situation, so we'll stick it out until he is a green belt.

I got home around 5:30, and dropped my stuff before taking a look at the tracks the kids had build for the Chima speeders. We said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later, and M-lady arrived a few minutes after Nanny J left.

I spent a few minutes doing the last assembly of the new TV stand, and then we got started on dinner. Buster was a little reluctant, but joined us eventually, and finished up a little after everyone. Bud started on his piano practice after dinner, and then joined Buster and I playing a little bit of Xbox before snack and bedtime.

I helped Buster to bed, where he played on the iPad for a bit before turning out the light. Bud apparently watched some Les Mis concert videos with M-lady before they turned the light out around 9:00.

A Timely Gift

M-lady was off early this morning, and the kids and I were up shortly after 8:00. I helped Buster get dressed, got myself dressed, and we waited for Nanny J. When she arrived, I headed out to a dentist appointment.

I worked from home for the rest of the day after the appointment, and the kids were in and out of the office all day. They each complained of being bored a couple of times, and I suggested various activities for them. I think their vacation is starting to wear on them a little. I taught them how to play Gin in the afternoon, and while Bud got a handle on the game pretty quickly, I'm not sure Buster quite grasped it.

The kids have become interested in the new Lego milieu of 'Chima', which includes new little ripcord-started speeders. During the day, both kids voiced their desire to get speeders, and asked if they had sufficient allowance saved up for speeder sets.

The kids were better at entertaining themselves in the afternoon, and then headed out to TKD with Nanny J shortly after 4:00. I headed out to pick them up around 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J and came home around 5:30.

When we got home, M-lady had just arrived, and I got started on getting dinner together. Around 6:30, our dinner guest arrived, one of M-lady's coworkers from the frozen north. He came bearing a gift for the kids: A Lego Chima Speeder set with two speeders in it. The kids were ecstatic, and played with the speeders for the rest of the evening.

I grilled a roast for dinner, and we all ate well. Bud and our guest played piano a little bit later in the evening, and our visitor took his leave a short time after 8:00. We got snack and bedtime started immediately, and the kids were in bed only a few minutes after the usual schedule.

One More Try

Buster joined us in bed around 7:30 this morning, and we all got moving around 8:00ish. I helped get Buster dressed, and did a last sweep to pick a few things up before the cleaners arrived, and then headed out around 8:30. M-lady waited for Nanny J to arrive at 8:45.

I got home just before 5:00, while the kids were still at TKD with Nanny J. They arrived home around 5:00, and both were excited to show me that they're ready to test for their next belts. We need to start studying their oral questions for their upcoming tests.

Bud got changed quickly, and he and I headed back to the ski rental place to get him fitted for boots and skis, since they didn't have any for him when we were there yesterday. The place was fairly crowded again, and we had to wait for about 20 minutes before we could try on some boots. Fortunately, they had something that fit him, and we were able to make it home a few minutes after 5:45, and just after M-lady arrived home.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and got settled in. We spent a while just resting (the kids were wrestling more than resting) before I started getting dinner together at about 6:30. Bud and I ate first, and M-lady joined us. Buster deferred for a bit.

Buster and I read together for a while, until he was ready for dinner, around 7:30. He had a little snack immediately after dinner, and then started getting ready for bed. While he was having his snack, we worked on the paperwork for his belt test, where he has to answer a few questions of the "How do you think TKD has helped you?" sort. We worked through the questions together, and he was able to write his name at the end.

Bud did a solid piano practice with M-lady after dinner. I got Buster ready for bed, and we played on the iPad for a bit before turning out the light. Bud got himself ready for bed after a snack, and hung out with M-lady for a bit.

Prepping for Skiing

The kids were up around 8:00ish, and M-lady was up early to get on some calls. I had the day off, so kept an eye on the kids after M-lady headed out. Bud got bowls of cereal for himself and his brother for breakfast, so I was able to snooze a bit.

I rolled out of bed a little after 9:00, and got the kids moving. I got Buster bathed, and we headed out around 10:00 to a nearby store to exchange a new parka I'd purchased yesterday for a different size. The kids were patient while I effect the exchange, which went pretty quickly. We got home again before 11:00, and I worked on the computer for a bit while the kids played with Lego.

Nanny J arrived around noon, and got Bud some lunch. I headed out to run some errands for a bit. Buster apparently deferred lunch until much later in the afternoon.

I got home again around 2:30, and took the kids with me to try to get some tire chains. The kids opted to come with me on that errand rather than accompany Nanny J to Costco to pick up some groceries. The kids were well behaved again, and our errand was successful.

I rested a bit in the afternoon, and Buster rested with me a bit. I also had him pick up his room, since he'd dumped a bucket of Lego on the floor. He was pretty good about picking things up. In the late afternoon the kids and I played a little bit of Xbox before we said goodbye to Nanny J at 5:45 and headed to the ski rental place to meet M-lady.

We spent an hour at the rental place, getting ski/boot/pole packages for Buster, M-lady, and myself. They didn't have anything in Bud's size, so I'll have to go back with him tomorrow to see if they've gotten anything in. We got home around 7:00, and I got some dinner together for the family.

After dinner, Bud worked on piano while I read a few books with Buster. We had our snack a bit before 8:00, and Buster and I finished cleaning his room and got him into PJs while M-lady finished up piano with Bud. M-lady played on the iPad for a bit with Buster, and I did the same with Bud for a bit before we turned out the light.

Almost All Better

The kids were in the room fairly early, before 8:00, but we didn't all get out of bed until some time after 9:00. I was the first one dressed, and I helped Buster get dressed before we headed down to breakfast. I got some food for the kids, and then Buster and I headed out to get groceries while M-lady and Bud ran some other errands.

I took off to get a haircut around lunchtime. I left just as M-lady and Bud returned home, and they all had lunch together. They went out to run some errands again after lunch, and I got home a short time before they did.

We did some chores in the afternoon, and while the weather was beautiful, I couldn't interest the kids in playing outside. Eventually I turned on the TV and hooked up the Xbox, and we played together a bit before packing up and heading out to dinner. The kids were excited to head out to Red Robin for dinner, and everyone ate well.

After dinner, the kids played on iPads for a short time while M-lady and I got a few more things taken care of. In terms of tasks, it was a very productive day, and we got a whole bunch of items checked off our weekend to-do list. I had a snack with the kids, and then Bud took his shower and did his piano practice while I hung out with Buster. M-lady relieved me, and I spent time hanging out with Bud before we turned out the lights a few minutes after 9:00.

Bud was running a really low-grade fever around snacktime, but otherwise the kids were fine all day.

New TV

Buster woke pretty early, and wandered into the room a bit before 7:00. Bud was up a bit later. Since neither child was headed to school, we had a mellow morning. Nanny J arrived at about 8:45, and M-lady headed out a short time after that. I stayed home, as we didn't know exactly when the new TV was going to be delivered.

The kids had a good morning, and didn't bother me in the office. When I came out to get some lunch, I discovered Buster had fallen asleep in his bed, where he napped for quite some time. I guess he'd gotten up a bit too early. He wasn't running a fever, though.

I watched my company's Friday Lunch meeting, which included a Chinese New Year's celebration, complete with lion dancers. I brought Bud in, and we watched the lion dancers together. A bit later, I came out of my office to find the kids doing lion dancing with their stuffed tiger/blankets. Bud said they'd tried to do one together, but the stuffed tiger wasn't big enough. So they each had their own.

The new TV arrived in the early afternoon, and the kids were really excited. After the delivery people had hauled off the old TV (end of an era...) and dropped off the new one, Nanny J helped me unbox it and we got it set up. We watched just a few minutes of ESPN to make sure it was working before turning it off and waiting for movie night. There was a fair amount of furniture to move back into place in the playroom, as we'd taken a lot of stuff out to get the old, big TV out.

M-lady arrived home to take Bud to his piano lesson, and I headed out to pick up dinner. We got back around the same time. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, we got dinner together and fired up the TV. I got the 3D glasses set up, and we watched various snippets (both 2D and 3D), before settling in to watch the first half of Cars 2 in 3D. The new TV looks great, and everyone liked the 3D.

We watched the movie up until snack time. I discovered Buster was running a low-grade fever and gave him a dose of medicine. Bud made it through the day without running a fever, I believe. The kids had a quick snack, and then got ready for bed. I watched some YouTube videos with Buster before we turned out the light. He wasn't really sleepy, but eventually drifted off a bit before 9:00.

Home All Day

Since the kids were both running fevers last night, they both stayed home today. Buster wandered into the bedroom around 7:30, bearing a Valentine for M-lady that he'd been saving carefully. Bud slept in a little, but was up by 8:15 or so. M-lady headed over to Bud's school to drop off some items for the Valentine's Day party he had to miss and pick up his homework as Nanny J was arriving, and I headed out a few minutes later.

The kids apparently had a mellow day. They both were running low fevers in the early afternoon, and Nanny J gave them each a dose of Ibuprofen and put them down for naps. They also reported that they had a little bit of cake in the afternoon for a snack, which they were pretty happy about.

I got home around 5:00, and the kids were hanging out in the kitchen. After settling in, and after Buster's bath, I let the kids play with iPads for a little while. M-lady arrived home to say goodbye to Nanny J, and after a bit I got Bud started on his homework. I ate dinner while Bud worked (I was hungry), and the rest of the family ate a short time later.

Bud did a solid piano practice, and we fixed up his homework together as well. He had time to play with an iPad for a little while before snack time, and then headed upstairs to take a shower.

M-lady put Buster to bed, and I chilled with Bud for a bit. Neither had a fever before bed, which seems to be a good sign, but they're not well enough to go to school tomorrow. They have next week off, so I guess they just get an extra long vacation. Happy Valentine's Day to all!

Now All Together

Bud stayed home from school today, and slept in this morning. M-lady was up with an early call, and Buster wandered in while I was getting dressed. After I got myself ready, I got Buster dressed and fed, and M-lady took him to school while I hung out with Bud. I headed for work shortly after Nanny J arrived, picking up Bud's homework from his school on the way.

The kids had a mellow day. Buster had his Valentine's Day party at his school, and seems to have enjoyed himself. They laid low in the afternoon, and Bud snoozed a bit during the day.

I got home around 5:30. Bud was running a fever again, although he'd had a dose of Ibuprofen around 4:00. I gave him a dose of Acetaminophen, and got some dinner together for the kids. M-lady ran out to run some errands, but joined us a short time later, and we all had a good dinner.

Bud was good about getting his homework and piano practice done, and the kids and I hung out together until snack time at about 7:45. Buster seems to keep forgetting that the TV is out of commission, but isn't really too put out by the fact when I remind him. I helped get a snack for Bud, and then helped get Buster ready for bed. Both kids were running fevers at bedtime, so I gave them each a dose of Ibuprofen before tucking them in.

There Goes The Other One

Buster was up shortly after Bud this morning. I got Bud going and got him some breakfast. He was good about getting ready, but complained of a sore throat. He didn't have a fever, though, so M-lady took him to school. I stayed home with Buster until Nanny J arrived, then headed off to work.

The kids opted to skip TKD today, as Buster was still coughing, and Bud wasn't feeling great. They were playing quietly when I got home around 5:30. M-lady arrived home a few minutes later, and we said goodbye to Nanny J.

Buster didn't really run a fever this afternoon, so he should be good for school tomorrow. Bud, however, had a low-grade fever when I checked his temperature around 6:30. I gave him a dose of Ibuprofen and we planned to keep him home from school tomorrow.

Bud did a good job on his homework, and we all had some dinner together. The kids ate pretty well, and Bud did his piano after dinner while I spent some time with Buster. I let him play with an iPad, since he would start coughing every time he started running around. The iPad kept him fairly sedentary.

We had snack when Bud wrapped up his piano, and then M-lady got Buster into PJs while I played on iPads with Bud for a bit. We played Bejeweled side-by-side for a while, and then watched some trailers before turning out the light around 9:00.

A Little Better

We decided to keep Buster home from school given his fever the day before, so the morning routine was a bit easier. M-lady had some calls to be on, so I got Bud going and got his breakfast while Buster slept in. Buster woke before Bud and I left, and went to sit with M-lady while she was on the call. M-lady stayed with Buster until Nanny J showed up, a bit before 9:00.

The kids had a good day. Buster was apparently fine until about 4:00, when his fever spiked again. I got home a little after that, and did some work. Buster played on the Leapster, and Bud fired up the netbook with Scratch and spent some time composing music with the programming system.

M-lady arrived home and we said goodbye to Nanny J, and I headed out to pick up some dinner while Bud handled his homework. He was done by the time I got home, and we all ate together. After dinner, Bud did his piano practice while I hung out with Buster a little bit and started disconnecting the old TV.

We had some of the 'practice cake' M-lady baked yesterday at snack time, and Buster was wired as he was getting ready for bed. I watched a little bit more of Wall-E with him before we turned out the light. Hopefully he sleeps soundly again tonight.

Slightly Sicker

Buster had a tough night, waking every four hours with coughing fits which brought him to vomiting. I sat up with him a bit each time. M-lady was fantastic, changing his sheets late at night as well. Buster seemed to do OK if he wasn't thinking about coughing.

M-lady handled the kids in the morning, and got them breakfast. I had a call at about 10, which lasted an hour. After that, I got Buster ready to go, and then headed out with him to the Best Buy where we'd been looking at TVs.

We purchased the TV we'd selected, and opted for delivery a day or two hence, taking advantage of the offer to cart away our old (heavy) TV. After the transaction, Buster and I headed home.

Buster wasn't really interested in lunch, and I discovered he was running a fever. I gave him a dose of ibuprofen (his coughing seemed much subdued), and we had a very mellow afternoon, mostly playing with iPads. I had a quick chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and then got a snack for the kids.

We headed outside for a bit, and the kids played in the garage while I did some cleanup. Buster practiced hammering nails into a board, including whacking his finger once. The kids got a little chilly and headed in before too long. Buster was asleep on the couch by the time I headed in to joing them.

I got some dinner for the kids, and then headed out around 6:30 to hang out with some friends. M-lady did the evening routine with the kids, which apparently went very smoothly. Buster continued to not cough too much during the afternoon and evening, so just took a dose of acetaminophen before bed. Both kids were sleeping well by the time I got home.

Replacement Hunting

The kids joined us in bed fairly early, around 7:30. Buster has been suffering a bit of a cough and runny nose, although it hasn't dampened his spirits any. We snuggled for a bit, and M-lady took off for ballet class at about 8:30.

I rose a short time later and got some breakfast for the kids. They asked to watch TV and play games several times, and I had to remind them that the TV was dead. After breakfast, Bud helped me clean up the kitchen a little bit, and we were just getting dressed when M-lady arrived home.

I had a nice chat with Grandma W and Granddad B (which Bud and Buster joined in occasionally), and afterward we had a quick lunch, and then headed out to see a Lion Dance exhibition to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We made it just in time, and the kids really enjoyed seeing the demo.

After seeing the Lion Dancing, we headed to a Best Buy to take a look at TVs. We were fortunate in that they had the three models we were considering more or less set up side by side. We were able to have a fairly solid comparison, and got a lot of good data. The kids were very patient with us as we chatted with the salesman. They also had the QuadHD 84" Sony TV there, which looked spectacular, but also runs ~$25,000.

We headed home after our fact-finding mission, and after dropping the family off at home, I headed out to do the grocery shopping. Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C had arrived by the time I got back, and the kids were having a blast playing together. I went out and picked up some Chinese takeout for dinner, and the kids all ate well and really enjoyed the food. Buster was coughing almost uncontrollably, though, so we recommended his sit quietly for a while after dinner. I'm not sure he took our advice.

We said goodbye to our guests a short time later, and I showered the kids. They got into PJs, and we hung out, played with iPads, and chatted a bit before snack and bedtime. I watched some Lion Dancing on YouTube with Bud before we turned out the light a bit after 9:00.

Buster unfortunately coughed himself awake during the night, and vomited a little due to the coughing and post-nasal drip. After getting him cleaned up and settled down, and having another dose of Dimetapp, he went back to sleep without too much trouble.

A Family Loss

We did our usual routine this morning, although M-lady took both kids to school as I headed for jury duty. M-lady was able to drop the kids off without much issue.

I got home early, around 3:00, and found the house empty, as Nanny J had taken the kids out for a bit. I got myself ready for a bike ride, and rolled out just around the time the kids and Nanny J returned. When I got back, around 5:00, M-lady had already gotten home and taken Bud to his piano lesson. I took a shower as Buster had a bath, and M-lady arrived home with Bud at about 5:45. We said goodbye and 'Happy New Year' to Nanny J, and got started on our usual Friday Movie Night.

As I got set up, I noticed the TV had a blinking green light. Attempts to turn the TV on were unfruitful, including unplugging and replugging the TV. A little online research revealed our TV had suffered the known Mitsubishi 'Blinking Green Light Of Death', and wasn't likely to come back. We weren't too upset, given it's a ten year old TV, but it put a little damper on Movie Night.

We had dinner around the table, and then the kids got into PJs. Once we were all ready for bed, we watched about half an hour of Wall-E on an iPad, curled up in our bed. After that we did a fairly normal bedtime routine, although we turned the lights out a little later than usual.

Early Drop Off

I had to report for jury duty today around 9:00, so took Bud to school about 5 minutes early to make sure I arrived on time. The kids were good about getting ready, and Bud was fine with waiting a few extra minutes. M-lady took Buster to school, and then volunteered in Bud's class.

The kids had a good day at class. I got out of the courthouse fairly early, and arrived home the same time that the kids got home from TKD. I settled in as Buster took his bath. Buster apparently scraped his knuckle at some point (lightly), and asked for a band-aid after his bath, which I provided.

M-lady arrived home around 5:45, and said goodbye to Nanny J. I inadvertently nodded off, and M-lady entertained the kids and got Bud working on his homework until dinnertime which happened around 7:00. I got up and joined the family for dinner, and we all ate together.

After dinner I played a few minutes of Lego Batman with Buster while Bud did his piano practice, and then set up snack for the kids. After snack, the kids got ready for bed. Buster and M-lady read stories and hung out together, and I played a little bit of Lego Lord of the Rings with Bud after he'd showered and was in PJs.

Media Break

I was up and just had time to help wake up the kids when I headed out to report to jury duty. M-lady got the kids together, got them breakfast, combed their hair, and took them to school. The morning routine apparently went fine.

Because I couldn't pick the kids up from TKD, they did the earlier, more basic class. They apparently had a good time, though. The kids were just getting out of their uniforms when I got home a few minutes after 5:00. I hung out with Buster a bit after he had his bath, and we said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45.

I got Bud going on his homework, which he was able to wrap up quickly. I was working on getting the kids some dinner when M-lady arrived home. We were able to all eat together, and the kids ate pretty well.

After dinner, I read library books with Buster while M-lady did piano with Bud. Buster and I took a break for snack and to get into PJs, and then finished up the books we'd been reading. We turned the light out around 8:30, and Buster dropped off to sleep pretty quickly.

Late Xbox

I rolled both kids out of bed a bit after 7:30, and got Buster dressed before we headed downstairs to breakfast. The kids ate pretty quickly, and spent a few minutes cleaning up their rooms before I combed their hair and M-lady took them to school. I stayed home and waited for the house cleaners.

Buster got home with Nanny J just around the time I headed out to work. They were sitting down to lunch as I took off.

The kids seem to have had a good day. They went to TKD in the afternoon, and Buster reported that he had a small nosebleed on the way home, but it didn't seem to be an issue. I got home around 5:30, and M-lady a few minutes later. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and then hung out with the kids for a few minutes.

I got Bud going on his homework, which was a little lighter tonight since it's a short week and he doesn't have his usual spelling homework. Buster spent some time on one of his workbooks while Bud was working. As they were wrapping up, I got dinner for the kids, and then got M-lady to join us. The kids ate pretty well, and Bud wolfed down several helpings.

After dinner, I took a few minutes on my own, and then played a little bit of Xbox with Buster while Bud did piano. Buster initially skipped his snack, but got into PJs really quickly so he could have a quick snack before bedtime.

M-lady read to Buster, and I played a little bit of Xbox with Bud at his request after he'd gotten into PJs. We finished up the campaign of Lego Lord of the Rings together before heading upstairs and turning out the light.

A Day Off

Bud didn't have school today, so of course he woke early, around 7:00. He spent the morning reading in bed while I got Buster dressed and fed breakfast. M-lady took Buster to school, and I hung out with Bud until Nanny J arrived. Bud got dressed and got some breakfast as I was heading out to work.

They apparently had a good day. Bud got to say hello to his old pre-school teachers when he and Nanny J went to pick up Buster, and they all remembered him and were impressed with how big he'd gotten. The kids didn't have TKD today, and were bouncing out excess energy in the living room when I got home around 5:00.

M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids kept up the high-energy play with each other in the living room until dinner time, singing and dancing and generally carrying on. They were good about coming for dinner, though, and we all ate together.

After dinner, I played some Xbox with Buster while Bud did piano. Bud joined us after finishing up, and Buster decided to forgo his snack to watch Bud and I play a bit together. At about 8:00 I took Buster upstairs to get ready for bed.

Unfortunately, Buster had a big nosebleed right at bedtime, so he was up a bit late as we were waiting for his nose to dry up. We turned the lights out around 8:45, and Buster fell asleep pretty quickly.

Solid Performance

The kids were up around 7:30 this morning, and M-lady got up a bit later to get them some breakfast. They were kind enough to let me sleep in, and I rolled out of bed around 10:00. After getting dressed, I read a story with Buster while Bud did a piano practice, and then I played a card game with Bud.

Buster accompanied me on a run to Home Depot to pick up a couple items, and then hung out with me a bit when we got home. Bud played outside for a while, and then came in for lunch. M-lady snoozed a bit while I got food for the boys, and woke around 1:00.

We got ready to head out to Bud's piano recital after that, and rolled out around 2:00. Bud did a great job on his piece, and M-lady and I gave him significant praise after the recital. He really worked hard this week to get the piece into shape, and performed really well.

We headed home and arrived just in time for the SuperBowl kickoff. Bud watched a lot of the game with me, and Buster hung out nearby playing on his Leapster. M-lady and I put some dinner together, and we all ate well, finishing up a bit before 7:00.

M-lady and I offered Bud a choice of treats for a reward for his performance, and he opted for donuts. We loaded up after wrapping up dinner, and headed out to Krispy Kreme. We all really enjoyed the donuts, and the kids were vibrating in their seats on the way home.

We just had time to do the bedtime routine when we got home, including a shower for Buster. Bud and I watched a How It's Made video about guitars before turning out the light a little bit after 9:00.

Music Night

The kids were up around 8:00ish, and were in and out of the room a bit. M-lady took off for ballet class a bit before 9:00, and the kids didn't bother me for breakfast until nearly 10:00.

Unfortunately we were out of a few staples, so the breakfast options were limited. The kids both ate well, though, and were happy to sit down in front of an episode of Sesame Street after breakfast. M-lady arrived home a short time after the show wrapped up.

I got the kids going, and Buster and I headed out to the grocery store while M-lady and Bud ran some errands. Buster and I did a pretty big shop, and got home a few minutes before M-lady and Bud. After unloading the groceries, we all had some lunch.

After lunch, M-lady supervised the kids as they made valentines for their classes. I took the opportunity to rest for a bit. The plan wasn't to finish the valentines today, but the kids got on a roll, and did pretty much everything except attaching the candy (which we haven't acquired yet). I joined them as they were finishing up, and took the kids outside for a bit.

I picked some more clementines from our tree with Bud's help, and Buster played a bit. Bud played too, when he wasn't helping me, and the kids had a good time running around a bit. We all headed back in as the day started cooling off, around 5:00ish.

We had a little more media time, as Bud played on an iPad and I played on the Xbox with Buster for a bit. When we wrapped that up, I started getting dinner ready, and everyone ate well. After dinner, I turned some music on which Buster enjoyed, and I spent the remainder of the evening before snack time picking songs off my iPhone and watching Bud and Buster dance in the living room. Buster's new favorite song is I Just Wanna Rock by Joe Satriani: he really likes the guitar talk box solo.

Snack and bedtime went smoothly. I introduced the boys to Bejeweled today, and Buster and I played that until it was time to turn the lights out.

Another Friday Movie

The morning was fairly standard, although I was feeling a little under the weather with a cold. I helped get the kids ready, and them M-lady took them to school while I stayed home. I worked from home during the day, rather than spread the cold around at work.

M-lady came back and worked from home in the morning as well, leaving for the office a short time before Nanny J and Buster arrived home. Buster came up to see me a couple times during the day, but was generally good about leaving me to my work.

M-lady came home to take Bud to his piano lesson, and I ran out around 5:30 to pick up some dinner. I got home around the same time as M-lady and Bud, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. Bud wanted to watch The Sword in the Stone, and Buster agreed. He was a little nervous at points, but later let us know that when he was a little scared, he pretended to be Batman.

We had a good time watching the movie, and had a snack and standard bedtime routine afterward. I played on the iPad with Bud a bit before we turned out the light around 9:00.
