Recovery Day

The kids were up at the usual time, which was a bit worrying given their late night. They jumped in bed with us, which was also a bit tough for me, as I was pretty sore from the day before. We eventually rolled out of bed around 9:00, and I got breakfast for the kids while M-lady headed off to ballet class.

I took the kids over to Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C's place, as Buster and Cousin C were excited to continue playing together. Unfortunately, they were both pretty tired, and had a minor disagreement before lunch which took about 15 minutes to sort out. They played together well after that and after lunch for a bit, but had another minor falling out around the time we decided to head back home, around 2:00.

While we were there, Bud found a Calvin and Hobbes book, and enjoyed reading that for a while. M-lady arrived just before lunch, and we all hung out together for a bit before heading home.

I snoozed with Buster for a little while when we got home, and then got the kids a snack at mid-afternoon. We lay low most of the rest of the afternoon, playing on the computer and playing some card games. Bud put in a really good piano practice around 5:00, and we got dinner and movie night going a short time after that.

Bud had been hearing about Avatar: The Last Airbender from a friend at school, and was interested. We watched the first episode, and then some Olympics recordings while eating dinner in front of the TV.

After dinner, we showered and got ready for bed. Snack time followed, and I watched a couple more episodes of Avatar with Bud before we turned out the light a little before 9:00.

Sleep Over Rehearsal

I snuck out this morning around 6:30 am for a long bike ride to benefit the Canary Foundation, and M-lady was kind enough to take care of the kids for most of the day. I had a great ride, and got home around 4:30 in the afternoon.

The kids were excited to see me, but they were also packing up to go visit Cousin C (and Aunt O, Uncle C, Ama, and Agu). M-lady and I were heading to the Canary Challenge after party (with one of our favorite swing bands), and Bud and Buster were going to stay with the family until later at night. We packed up their sleeping bags, and they were really excited.

Buster and Cousin C put on their new Halloween costumes immediately (Batman and Thor, respectively), and played superhero for most of the evening. We all had a nice dinner together, and M-lady and I helped get Bud and Buster ready for bed before taking off.

We got back around 10:00, and found no one had fallen asleep: the kids had been having too much fun together. We extracted the boys and loaded them up, and put them to bed when we got home. Buster fell asleep immediately, and Bud was up for just a bit before nodding off.

Writing Project

Bud was up before we were, but Buster didn't get up until about 5 minutes after our alarm went off. He wandered in and wanted to snuggle for a few minutes before getting dressed, and M-lady and I used the excuse to lie down again for a few minutes.

I got breakfast for the kids, and dropped Buster off at school as M-lady took Bud. The kids seem to have had a good day at school, and Nanny J brought Buster home around noon. I was out running errands, and got back briefly after lunch before heading out again.

I got back in the afternoon while the kids were off at TKD. They had fun at TKD, and headed outside to play shortly after arriving home. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and M-lady arrived home a short time later. Around 6:30 I corralled the kids and brought them back in, and got Bud started on his homework.

Everyone ate a big dinner, and Bud did his piano practice after dinner. I had to run one more errand before the stores closed, so M-lady handled snack. I got back around 8:00, helped Buster into his PJs, and then spent some time hanging out with Bud before bed. Bud's been working on a book about Magic, and I contributed a sketch for him which he was pretty happy with. We turned the light out around 9:00, and he was asleep before too long.

Excited to Be Back

I arrived back from a trip out of town late last night, after the kids had gone to bed. I'd had a chance to have a quick video call with them around 7:00, though, and was looking forward to seeing them.

Buster didn't crawl into bed with us until about 7:15, and we got out of bed around 7:30. I helped Buster get dressed, rousted Bud, and got breakfast for the kids. There was a brief scramble for a 'C' picture for Buster, which they'd forgotten the previous night, but we found a suitable image without too much issue. I loaded the kids up and took them off to school.

Buster came home with Nanny J just before noon, and had some lunch. I chatted with Buster a little bit about his day, and then dressed for a bike ride and headed out. I got back a bit after 2:00, just as Buster and Nanny J were heading out to pick up Bud.

I was showered by the time they returned, and I hung out with the kids a bit in the afternoon before M-lady arrived home. I got Bud started on his homework, and cleaned up some art Buster thoughtfully added to the wall. Fortunately, the pen came off with some alcohol.

M-lady got started on dinner around 6:00, and I finished it up. We all ate together, and the kids ate pretty well. There was a short playtime after dinner, and then I got Bud started on piano. He did a solid practice, and I had the opportunity to play a game of Magic with Buster before snack time. Bud helped him a bit.

The kids had snack together, and then I put Buster to bed. We read a couple of BOB books, and his reading is certainly coming along. He'll be playing a solid game of Magic before too long. I turned out the light around 8:30, and he was asleep inside 10 minutes.

Funny Stuff

Buster crawled in bed with us fairly early again this morning. M-lady rolled out of bed around 8:30, and headed off to ballet class, and the kids headed downstairs to get some breakfast from and play with Ama and Agu. They came up occasionally to ask me questions. I rolled out of bed around 9:30 and headed out for a bike ride.

After M-lady got home, they all loaded up and headed over to Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C's place, where I ended my ride to meet up with them. We had some lunch there, and the kids played together for a bit: in the backyard, in the house, and out front with bikes and scooters. While they were inside a bit later, Buster and Cousin C had an uproarious time playing with the iPad. We heard them laughing their heads of repeatedly, and they kept it up until it was about time to go home.

We had a mellow late afternoon, and I played some computer games with the kids before dinner time. The kids ate pretty well at dinner time, and we headed outside to play for a little bit afterward. It was getting dark by the time we came in, and there was just a short time left to play before snack and bed time. I played on the iPad for a bit with Buster before we turned out the light a little after 8:30.

Cutting Hairs

Buster crawled into bed with us fairly early again this morning. M-lady had an 8:00am call, so was out of bed fairly early. I got up and took Buster to school, but Bud had the day off, so he stayed home with M-lady, Ama, and Agu. I was able to come home after dropping Buster off and snooze for a bit.

I picked Buster up again around 11:30, and brought him home for lunch. Everyone ate together, and both kids ate pretty well. After lunch, I packed up the kids and we headed out for haircuts.

Bud's getting a bit big for the kiddie haircut place we're going to. I may take him to my haircut place next time. Buster endured the haircut stoically, and both kids were excited to get the lollipops when it was time to head out.

The kids were covered in little bit of hair, so we showered as soon as we got home. After getting the kids cleaned up, I got dinner prep set up and then dashed out for a quick bike ride. While I was out, M-lady took Bud off to his piano lesson. Buster wanted to go, too, and was a little disappointed when they left without him, but was consoled with the thought of going along next week. When I got back from my ride, I got to work helping make dinner.

Aunt O and Cousin C came over for dinner, and the kids played in the backyard while I grilled. We all had dinner together, and put Cousin C and Buster at a little table since we didn't have enough room at the big table. They were pretty happy, and enjoyed themselves at dinner. All the kids ate well.

After dinner there was more time spent in the backyard, primarily playing basketball. Bud wanted to play with anyone who was willing, but specifically asked to play with Ama, who he'd heard enjoyed playing. Eventually the light started failing, and we came in to say goodbye to Cousin C and Aunt O.

The snack and bedtime routine was straightforward, and I played a couple games of Magic with Bud before turning the lights out.

Cavalry Arrives

Buster woke a short time after I did, and came looking for M-lady, who was already on a call. After Buster checked with her (and got some snuggle time in), I got him dressed and let Bud know that he needed to dress as well. I got breakfast for the kids, combed their hair, and took Buster to class while M-lady took Bud.

The kids had a good day. M-lady picked up Buster from school while I headed out to have lunch with some friends from work, and then I picked up Bud from school after lunch, taking Buster with me. We got a snack when we arrived back home, and got ready for TKD. The kids did well in TKD, and Bud was excited to get the first tape on his new belt.

Ama and Agu had arrived by the time we got back, and the kids were really excited to see them. They played with the grandparents for most of the rest of the evening, as far as I know, although I headed out a little before 6:00 for dinner with my old team. The kids had a good dinner, and Bud didn't need to do homework as he doesn't have school tomorrow. Unfortunately I didn't get back until the kids were asleep in bed, so I missed the evening.

Octagons in the Wild

Buster crawled into be with me around 7:00 this morning, around the time M-lady got up for a phone call. He headed out about 20 minutes later, and I found him and Bud playing Magic together when I got up around 7:30. I got them dressed and breakfasted, and took Bud to school while M-lady took Buster.

I picked Buster up from school at 11:30, and he'd had a pretty good day, learning about octagons and stop signs. We counted stop signs on the way home, and then got some lunch when we arrived. After eating, Buster and I hung out together until it was time to pick up Bud. We played some board games, and read some stories together.

We went to pick Bud up from school, and arrived a couple of minutes early. After getting him, we stopped to get gas on the way home, and then just had time for the kids to snack before they changed and we hit the road for TKD. The kids did fine in class, and Bud was demoing for the class again.

After class, we came home and found M-lady returned from work. The kids changed and snacked, and Bud jumped into his homework without being asked. I headed out to get some dinner before too long.

Both kids ate pretty well, and we had time to watch some Olympics recordings before having a snack, showering, and getting ready for bed. Buster and I read a BOB book before watching some YouTube videos and then turning out the light.

Efficient Evening

Buster crawled into bed with us a bit before 7:00 this morning, and Bud wandered in to say hello a short time later. Once we got Buster up and dressed, the morning was fairly routine. I took Buster to school, while M-lady took Bud.

M-lady picked the kids up from school today. I was home when she got back with Buster, and we all had lunch together. After lunch, M-lady and I both spent some time hanging out with Buster before she took him to pick up Bud and check out the book fair at Bud's school. They each got a book before they came home.

I was just leaving for my bike ride, and I returned while they were still at TKD. They apparently had a good time, and M-lady got some pics of them in their new belts. They had a snack when they got home, and we got dinner going before too long. Bud was good about doing his homework before dinner, and his piano practice after dinner.

There was time in the afternoon and evening to work on some more paper airplanes, and to talk about math with Bud some more. He's showing the interest, so I'm giving him the bits and pieces which will help him along in a couple years. After a solid snack, Bud and I watched a little bit of the old Stomp videos before turning out the light.

Home Again

I was gone for the weekend, and M-lady did a great job of taking care of the kids while I was gone. We had a nice video chat on Sunday, and I was excited to get home. Unfortunately, I arrived a few minutes after both kids had fallen asleep, so I didn't get to say hello until morning.

Bud wandered in briefly around 7:15, and then went to play for a bit. I got up around 7:30, about the same time Buster was getting up. I got Buster dressed, and got some breakfast for the kids. M-lady took Buster to school while I dropped off Bud.

Nanny J is on vacation this week, so M-lady and I are looking after the kids. M-lady had a short day at work, so I headed out to pick up Buster and bring him home for lunch. He ate pretty well, and we hung out together for a bit after lunch, playing Memory and doing a couple puzzles.

We headed out to pick up Bud from school, and were about 5 minutes late (apparently we had the wrong pickup time written down). Bud wasn't too upset, though, and we headed home to have a snack. I got Bud to do the bulk of his homework after snack, and M-lady arrived home a short time later. Subsequently we were all able to spend some time together.

I presented the gifts for the kids sent on by the grandparents I'd been visiting, and they all went over well. Buster liked his car construction kit, Bud really enjoyed the paper airplane book, and they both liked the Pez. We all spent a fair amount of time in the afternoon folding and throwing paper airplanes.

I took a quick bike ride in the late afternoon, and M-lady stepped out for a brisk walk. I got dinner together while Bud did his piano practice, and we all ate together when it was ready.

I bathed Buster after dinner, and Bud finished up piano before snack time. Snacks were pretty straightforward, and I enjoyed playing some games with Buster on iPad before turning out the light. Buster fell asleep within 15 minutes, but Bud didn't drop off until nearly 10:00, complaining of a sore leg. Hopefully he isn't too tough to wake in the morning.

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

The kids were just getting up around the time I got up at 7:30. The kids were good about getting ready for school, and the drop offs went smoothly this time.

I was out for a bike ride for the early part of the afternoon, and got home while they were out at TKD. They arrived home around 5:00, and Bud showed me his wrist, which he'd injured in a fall. It sounded like he'd just slapped the side of the wrist down hard on the mat, but it was swelling a little, so we did the ice/compression/elevation thing (as much as I could get him to rest/elevate it). It was fine by early evening.

After Nanny J left, we played with iPads for a little while, and then I started pulling dinner together. I'd purchased cucumber and lettuce for sandwiches the previous day, and asked the kids if they wanted more than the usual offering of veggies. They both accepted, and had (somewhat segregated) salads along with the usual dinner fare, which they both consumed entirely.

Bud was a little slow to practice piano after dinner, but eventually got it done. The kids were in PJs before snack time, and Buster had a quick snack before we all played a game of Magic on the computer. I tucked the kids in around 8:30, and they fell asleep pretty quickly.

Last Minute Bleeding

Buster crawled into bed with me around 6:00 this morning, and we snoozed together for a bit before I got out of bed around 7:30. Buster took a while to rouse, but I finally got him up and ready for school. Bud was good about getting ready, and we headed out at the usual time. The drop off for Bud went fine, but there was a traffic accident stuffing up a lane on the way to Buster's school, so we ended up about ten minutes late getting him there. He didn't seem to mind too much, though, and trotted in and joined the class.

The kids had good days at school. I was heading out for a ride just as Buster got back from school, and I was cleaning up when they went out to pick up Bud. The kids hung out with me a bit while I was cleaning up the office, then headed out to TKD. They had a good time at class, and immediately accosted me for a snack when they arrived back home.

Buster took his bath, and we said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later. The kids and I watched an episode of a new show I discovered based on the How To Train Your Dragon move, called Dragons: Riders of Berk. It was a pretty simplistic plot, but the characters are fun and the humor was pretty good. Both kids liked it.

We had a fairly successful dinner, and afterward I got Bud to practice piano. The kids got into PJs before snack time, and then I played a game of Magic with each of them before tucking them in to bed.

While I was playing with Bud, Buster watched, and as we wrapped up the game, I turned to find Buster with a Kleenex trying to stem a good-sized nosebleed. Bud was good about getting himself into bed while I got Buster cleaned up and clotted (he'd managed to not get blood on anything but his face and hands). Both kids went to sleep without further issues, and hopefully Buster won't have blood on his sheets in the morning.

Another Planeswalker

Buster crawled into bed with me around 7:00 this morning, and we rolled out of bed around 7:30 to start getting ready for school. The kids were good about getting ready, and we got out the door in time to drop Bud off and get Buster to class. Buster had a lot of stuff to bring today (an 'A' picture, an apple, and an athletic sock), but he seemed to be pretty solid on what was where in his backpack. I saw him drop off the apple in the specified bin, and he was ready to start class.

I headed out for a bike ride shortly before Buster got home, and I arrived home from the bike ride while Nanny J and Buster were out picking Bud up from school. They got home as I was having a snack, and they snacked with me before I took my shower.

After cleaning up, I headed out again to do a quick grocery shopping trip to stock up on fruit and milk. The kids go through both at a remarkable rate. I couldn't find pears this time, but there was a last gasp of watermelons, so I got one for the kids.

I got home around 5:00, and played some Magic with the kids before Nanny J took her leave. I played a game with Buster for the first time, who really wants to play as well, and has learned how to read the casting cost on the cards, and tap lands to cast the spells. Unfortunately he can't read well enough yet to know what the spells do, but he's working on it, and we actually played a fairly successful game with Bud helping Buster out from time to time.

After Nanny J left, we watched a little football, tossed a football around a bit, and then had some dinner. Buster didn't eat much again, and ended up not eating snack, either. Didn't seem to bother him, though. After dinner, Bud did his piano practice, and then we watched just a few minutes of the Chargers game before snack and bedtime.

The kids were good about getting themselves ready for bed, and I got them both tucked in. Buster was asleep within about 15 minutes, and Bud a short time after we turned his light out around 8:30.

Peanut Butter Plan

M-lady had to take off at about 8:00 to head to the airport, and both kids were up by the time she rolled out. They were really good about entertaining themselves, though, and let me sleep until nearly 9:30 (with periodic interruptions for the usual questions and status updates). I got them some breakfast around 9:30, and then motivated them to get dressed.

We spent some time in the office in the morning, and Bud was anxious to get started on a chore to earn some money: we have a lot of papers that need shredding, and he and I agreed to a rate. Buster thought the shredder was a little too loud, but eventually came in to help 'deliver' papers to Bud for shredding. Bud got through a very small portion of the papers before getting bored: I think we'll be able to come back to it, though.

Bud and I had some lunch, and Buster deferred. Overall Buster had a pretty small eating day. After lunch we watched a little bit of TV, including some old video tapes from my high school days sent out by Granddad B and Grandma Nese. The kids were definitely less interested in the tapes than I was.

We headed outside for a while, and the kids played in the yard while I puttered in the garage. I put my car back together after transporting bikes in it yesterday, and the kids had fun playing 'Arc Trooper' in the back (pretending the mini van is a troop shuttle).

We headed in and made peanut butter cookies, and the kids helped me press the cookies with forks: they really liked that part. We watched some of the football game while the cookies baked, and then the kids each had a small cookie before we got dinner going.

The kids ate pretty well, and alternately played with each other and spent time with me watching the game after dinner. Snack time came up before too long, and the kids were excited to get another cookie. Buster is starting to accept that he likes peanut butter now: the next step is little PB crackers, which we may try for a snack tomorrow.

The kids were good about getting ready for bed, and I had them both tucked in by 8:30.

Saturday, September 08, 2012

I got up around 8:00 and got ready to head out for a bike ride with some friends. Bud was up, playing with his Magic cards, and Buster was still asleep in bed when I headed out around 8:45. He apparently got up around 9:00.

M-lady got the kids some breakfast, and they went to the library a little later in the morning. I didn't get home until about 2:00, where I found M-lady making another batarang for Buster at his request. He was pretty happy with the second batarang, made red for Robin.

M-lady headed out shortly to run some errands, and I got snacks for the boys. I took a quick shower, and then got Buster set up on Lego Batman while Bud and I played a game of Magic. We hung out a bit more until M-lady arrived home.

The kids helped me a little bit with dinner prep, putting chopped vegetables into bowls so that I could stir fry them. Buster declined the stir fry for dinner, but Bud ate a couple of helpings, along with some leftovers. He ate more than any of us at dinner... must be growing again.

After dinner, Bud did his piano practice while I hung out with Buster, and we wrapped up the evening with showers and snacks. Buster and I played a little bit on the iPad before turning out the lights.

Movie Night

Buster woke me around 7:00 to let me know that M-lady made a mistake, and was working on fixing her computer. I guess he'd been sitting in her lap when she accidentally saved over the presentation she'd been working on, and needed to recover it. Buster crawled into be with me for about half an hour, until it was time to get up.

I got the kids ready and took them both to school. The drop offs went fine, and the kids had good days at school. I was in and out in the afternoon, and saw them briefly a couple of times. M-lady came home in time to take Bud to his piano lesson, and I picked up some dinner. I got home a few minutes after M-lady and Bud, and we said goodbye to Nanny J.

We got started on Movie Night, for which I selected How to Train Your Dragon. Buster, who's had a bit of a cold, followed the same pattern as yesterday, and developed a low-grade fever, along with listlessness and lack of appetite, right around dinner time. I confirmed the fever and gave him some ibuprofen. He opted to play with an iPad rather than watch the movie with us.

By the end of the movie, Buster had joined us, and we all watched one of the shorts (The Book of Dragons) together after that. Snack followed, and I hung out with Bud a bit before we turned out the light around 9:00.

Post-Workout Nutrition

Buster curled up on the rug in our room at about 6:30 this morning, and was a bit snorky. He developed a runny nose overnight, although it didn't slow him down, and didn't seem to be an issue during the day. I hurried the kids along a little, as I had to take both of them to school, and we got out the door about 5 minutes earlier than usual. The drop off for Bud was fine, and I got to see Buster into his classroom for the first time this year.

The kids had good days at school. I had lunch a little before Buster got home, and then hung out with him while he ate. After lunch, he played with Nanny J until they headed out to pick up Bud. I was out for a bike ride for some of the afternoon, and arrived home just as they were heading out to TKD.

When they got home, Bud informed me that they needed to eat a PowerBar since they'd worked out (which is the excuse I use for not sharing). I divided one for the two of them, which they enjoyed.

The kids and I hung out a little this afternoon, and said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45. M-lady arrived a short time later, and she got started on making dinner. I helped out, and Bud and M-lady and I ate. Buster declined, claiming he wasn't feeling well. He was running a low-grade fever, so after dinner I got him some ibuprofen and into PJs. He and I hung out a bit, watched an episode of How It's Made, and turned the light out a bit early. Buster was asleep in a couple minutes.

Yet Another Sport

Buster crawled into bed with us around 7:00 again, this time bringing his TKD binder and a request to start reviewing the oral questions he'll need to know the answers to when he tests for his next belt. We all got up around 7:30ish, and did a fairly standard morning routine. I took Bud to school, and dropped him off as we got out the door a few minutes later than usual.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I was out for a bike ride for most of the morning, and was home briefly around 1:00 to find Buster finishing up lunch. He hung out with me for a few minutes before I headed out again to run some errands. I got back home again around 1:45, took a shower, and then headed out around 2:30, while Buster and Nanny J were out picking up Bud.

I was out until about 4:30, and the kids were out at TKD when I got back. I was able to snooze for a bit, but a short time after they got home I heard them yelling "Ai!" every 5 seconds or so for a good 30 minutes. They were apparently continuing their TKD practice, working on their kicks. It went on for quite a while.

We said goodbye to Nanny J around 5:45, and Bud and I played a game of Magic. Buster got bored of watching us fairly quickly, and started moving things around in the living room (read: gym). When I looked, back, he'd made a square area surrounded by what furniture he had, and claimed to have created a boxing ring. He spent time practicing his boxing for a bit.

We got dinner going a little late, but both kids ate pretty well. Bud did his piano practice, and snack time came up quickly. I helped get Buster ready for bed, and then watched a couple Magic videos with Bud before we turned out the light. Bud sang to himself for a little bit before falling asleep a bit after 9:00.

School Pro

Buster crawled into bed with us a little early, and we rolled out of bed around 7:30. The kids were good about getting ready for school, and M-lady took Buster while I took Bud. Buster apparently headed right into the class, found his cubby, stashed his pack and jacket, cleaned his hands, and headed right to his spot in the circle without any prompting. He's clearly remembered the routine from last year.

I dropped Bud off without incident, and then headed back home. I headed out for a bike ride later in the morning, and when I got back a bit before 1:00, I found Buster home with Nanny J, eating lunch. I ate as well, and then showered. Buster and I played on the computer for a short time before he and Nanny J headed out to pick Bud up from school. A few minutes later, I headed out to run errands.

I met up with the kids again at TKD. Nanny J headed for home after I arrived, and I hung out while the kids had class. Towards the end, they did the belt graduation ceremony, and Buster got his orange belt while Bud got his purple belt. They were pretty excited, and we all headed home together.

Buster took a bath when we got home, and after saying goodbye to Nanny J, we spent a little time hanging out together. We had calls with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and then with Grandma W and Granddad B. We set up a video call for the second one at Bud's request, so he could talk Magic cards with Uncle D. It was good to see Uncle D for a little while.

M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we got dinner going. The kids ate pretty well, although we got to it a little late. After dinner, Bud did his piano practice while I entertained Buster. That took us up to snack time, where we checked out the science experiment we set up yesterday: rock candy. There was a crust of sugar on the top of the solution which I pulled off and let the kids have for snack. We'll see how it goes from here.

After snack I got Buster ready for bed, and we watched a little bit of Olympics before turning the light out. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Last Day of Summer Vacation

M-lady got up with the kids this morning around 8:45, and I went down to help with breakfast a bit after 9:00. M-lady made waffles, which the kids really enjoyed. After breakfast, I got my bike stuff together, and headed out for a ride.

While I was out riding, Bud did his piano practice, and the family packed up and headed out to visit Aunt O and Cousin C. The kids had a good time playing with Cousin C, and they had lunch over there.

They got home around 2:30, a bit after I got back and had cleaned up. After hanging out for a little bit, the kids and I headed over to the local mall so Bud could buy a Magic booster pack with his own money. I prompted him to conduct the transaction himself, and he did a pretty good job. We took a look in a board game store as well, which will warrant more attention as the kids get older.

We got back and chilled for a little bit before dinner. Buster and I snoozed for a bit, and when dinner time rolled around, it took a fair amount of effort to rouse him. Eventually he woke up and nibbled a bit on dinner, but mostly ended up eating at snack time.

After dinner, the kids ran laps ("We're playing track and field!") until we cut them off for snack time. I watched a short vid with Bud before turning out the light, and M-lady chatted with Buster about his first day of pre-school tomorrow.

Dinner Theater

The kids were up and rambunctious fairly early this morning, and I had to kick them out of the room a couple of times. Eventually M-lady got up and got them some breakfast, but unfortunately we were out of milk. I rolled out of bed a little later, around the time M-lady took off for ballet class, and got breakfast for Buster.

The kids and I spent some time hanging out together, and Bud learned to play Magic on the computer. Since he already knows how to play Magic, it was really just a matter of learning the interface. He won a game and was pretty pleased with himself, and Buster seemed pretty entertained just watching.

M-lady got home a bit before noon, and got some lunch for the kids. After eating, I got my stuff together to run an errand, and Buster opted to go with me. We had a good time, and hit the grocery store on the way home. Buster was good through the trip, and we came home around 4:00 to find Bud practicing piano.

The kids played together for a bit, and as 5:00 approached we started getting ready for dinner. I'd been to a teppanyaki restaurant earlier in the week, and thought the kids might enjoy it, so we had reservations at the nearby Benihana. We met Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C there, and had a very nice dinner. The kids were well enough behaved (if a little over excited to sit still), and enjoyed the chef cooking at the table. The food was great, and we all had a good time.

After dinner, the kids had fun running up and down the sidewalk outside the restaurant for a good fifteen minutes before we said goodbye and headed home. We had time to hit the showers and get ready for bed. Buster and I watched a little bit of the Olympic triathlon event before turning the light out a bit after 8:30.

Around the Block

The kids were up and in bed with us before 8:00 this morning. M-lady had a bit of a headache, so I kicked the kids out, and then headed downstairs with them to make some pancakes for breakfast. The kids ate well, and M-lady came down as well when she was feeling a little better.

We chatted a bit, and I snoozed in the late morning until about 12:30. When I got up, M-lady was making a batarang for Buster at his request (he's been playing a lot of Lego Batman). We decided to pack up and head to the mall, where we had some lunch.

The kids and I wandered around a bit after lunch, visiting the Lego store and checking out the new Halloween store. Buster wants to be Batman, and Bud asked to be a character from Magic: The Gathering, Jace Beleren. We'll see what we can do for them.

After coming back from the mall, we had a nice chat with Grandma W, and M-lady finished up Buster's batarang. He was pretty happy with it. After chatting with Grandma W, Bud wanted to run around the block (he's been asking me to run with him daily for weeks). I shoed up, and the kids and I jogged around the block together. Buster did a good job keeping up. We got back, had some water, and then rested for a bit before dinner.

Since we'd missed movie night the previous night with the TKD tests, we picked it up this evening, watching more of the School House Rocks videos. We had a good time and the kids ate pretty well, and that took us right to snack time. The kids had a solid snack, and I played a game of Magic with Bud before turning out the lights. Buster apparently fell asleep a few minutes after the lights went out: he was pretty tired.
