Demonstrated Competence

Early this morning, around 4:00, Bud came in and let M-lady know that he'd lost a tooth. M-lady helped him get the tooth cleaned up and stored, and they discussed the fact that it was probably too late for the tooth fairy to show up that night.

The normal routine started around 7:30, and I got some breakfast for Bud before we headed off to school. We got out the door a few minutes late, but made it to school in plenty of time.

M-lady came home early to pick up Buster for his TKD belt test. They headed over around 4:00, and Buster did the review session and the test. He was the youngest student testing in the yellow belts, and he did a great job. He broke his board on the first try, and had a really good form. He's improved a lot over the summer.

I arrived home around 4:30, and took Bud to his 5:00 piano lesson. Bud did very well in his lesson, and put both hands of the minuet he's been working on together for the first time, greatly impressing his teacher. After piano, we headed towards the TKD studio, meeting M-lady and Buster for dinner on the way.

Bud had his TKD belt test scheduled for 6:30, but they didn't get started until about 7:00. M-lady and Buster followed us, so they could watch Bud test, too. Bud was awesome during the test, showing particularly advanced and clean movement, most likely due to his leadership over the past few months. He did a great form (which drew praise from the tester), and a solid board break. The kids were both happy after the test, and ate celebratory PowerBars on the way home.

It was pretty late when we got home, so the kids had a shower and quick snack before heading for bed. I watched some handball and rhythmic gymnastics with Buster before we turned out the light around 9:00.

Fort Building

Buster crawled in bed with us around 7:00, and went soundly to sleep. When we got up around 7:30, we couldn't wake him. He eventually got up around the time I was getting breakfast for Bud. I got him breakfast as well, and then took Bud to school. Buster and M-lady headed to Buster's school's open house, where he was apparently a bit reserved until they opened up the playground.

The kids had a good day. I got home a few minutes late, but M-lady was already home. The kids were building a spaceship in the living room, which kept them occupied for most of the early evening. When M-lady and I came downstairs, they'd morphed their creation into a cargo plane which they were very pleased with, and was very impressive.

We had some dinner, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did his piano, and I chilled with Buster. We ended up watching some movie trailers, and Buster really enjoyed some dance movie clips. Bud joined us for a few minutes before snack time.

Bud wanted to see the dance clips before bed, so we watched them before turning out the light. Both kids were good about going to sleep.

Confusing Sports

Buster crawled into bed with us around 7:00, and was very snuggly until we got up at about 7:30. M-lady rousted Bud, and I got breakfast for both kids. I had to jump on a call at about 8:00, so M-lady took Bud to school. Buster hung out with me a bit while I was on my call. I headed in to work when the call ended around 9:00.

The kids seem to have had a good day. M-lady got home in time to relieve Nanny J, and I got home closer to 6:30. We had dinner a short time later, and both kids ended up eating pretty well. After dinner, I played with Buster a bit while Bud did his piano practice (after a bit of grousing). Bud joined Buster and me to play a little bit of Lego Batman before snack time.

Bud got himself ready for bed while I shepherded Buster. Buster and I read a BOB book together (he's starting to get the hang of this reading thing) and then watched some of the women's Modern Pentathlon competition before turning in. I had trouble explaining it to him.

Word Games

The kids were up by about 7:30, and Bud was ready for breakfast when I got up around 7:45. I got him some breakfast, combed his hair, and took him off to school while M-lady stayed home with Buster. I walked Bud to his classroom, and left him standing in line. The second graders clearly don't need their parents hanging around any more.

The kids had a good day. Buster did TKD in the morning, and the kids were happily playing when M-lady and I arrived home around 5:45. After I'd had a quick snack, we all settled in and rested for about an hour before dinner. The kids played on an iPad for a bit, which they hadn't done in a while.

M-lady got dinner together, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did piano while Buster and I played a little bit of Lego Batman. Bud joined us when he was done, and we just managed to finish the level we were on before snack time.

The kids snacked efficiently, and I played with Bud a bit before bedtime. We were looking at games on my iPad, and discovered Boggle. We had a good time playing together, finding words, before turning out the light around 8:30.

Pleasant Sunday

I rolled out of bed around 9:00, and got myself ready for a bike ride. M-lady was getting breakfast for the kids when I rolled out.

They had a good morning, and went to play at Bud's school with Cousin C and Aunt O. Buster and Cousin C played on the playground, while Bud ran laps around the field. They came over and all had lunch together before Cousin C and Aunt O headed home.

I got home near 2:00, and got myself some lunch and a shower. The kids played some Lego Batman, and hung out with me a bit while M-lady ran some quick errands. I ran out a bit later with Buster to pick up a missing key dinner ingredient for M-lady, while she did Bud's piano practice with him.

The kids played outside for a bit when we returned, and we all headed inside a bit later to get some dinner. After eating I played a couple games of Magic with Bud, and then did snack time. Showers followed, and bedtime. I read a couple stories with Buster before we turned the light out and chatted for a bit.

More Marathon Influence

M-lady headed out for ballet this morning around 8:30. The kids had been up a little while, and they were in and out until I got up around 9:00 and got them some breakfast. After breakfast, I played with the kids a bit. Buster watched as I played a game of magic with Bud, and then I played Lego Batman with Buster for a bit.

M-lady got home a bit after 11:00, and the kids were happy to see her. I had some lunch around 11:30, and the kids had lunch around 12:30. Buster didn't eat very much at lunch, which was a theme which continued most of the day. After the kids had eaten, Bud and I loaded up and headed out to run some errands.

We ran around a bit, and picked up some Magic card protectors, a new deck for Bud, and a new lunchbox. Bud was good company, and we had a pretty good time together. M-lady and Buster were out running errands when we got home, and they arrived a short time later.

The kids had a quick snack, and M-lady and I relaxed and read for a bit while the kids bounced off the walls. Buster would jump off the bed, trying to 'glide' like the Lego Batman character does in the video game. He wasn't terribly successful, but he kept at it for a while.

We all went out to dinner, and had a good time. After eating, we hit the grocery store, and got home early enough for the kids to play outside for a little while before snack time. While the kids were running laps up and down the sidewalk, I saw Buster pretend to pick up a waterbottle from the side, drink, and throw it away.

The evening was pretty standard, with shower, piano practice, snack, and bedtime. I read math story puzzles with Bud, and we had a good time with them.

Marathon

Both kids woke during the night, so I didn't get quite as much sleep as I would have liked. I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:45, and after some prodding he got himself up and got dressed. I got him some breakfast and prepared his lunch, and M-lady took him off to school around 8:15. Buster snoozed until about 8:30, when he got up and joined me. I helped him get dressed, and then he headed down to breakfast around the time Nanny J arrived.

M-lady volunteered in Bud's class this morning, and reports that he's doing pretty well in class. He's confident and volunteering a lot, which is good. Hopefully he'll be challenged a bit in class.

The kids did TKD in the afternoon, and I arrived home around 5:45. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and eventually we sat down in front of the TV for a bit. M-lady arrived home, and at Buster request I put on some recorded Olympic coverage. The men's marathon was on, and the family had a good time watching that.

While M-lady and I got dinner together, the kids ran around the house, presumably running their own marathon. It took some effort to get them to stop and come to dinner. They both ate well, and went back to running for a bit after dinner.

They had a snack, and Bud did his piano practice before heading upstairs to get ready for bed. I got Buster started on the bedtime routine, and then played a couple games of Magic with Bud before we turned out the light.

Evening With the Boys

Bud was up early again, and M-lady got him breakfast when she got up for a 7:00am meeting. Bud wandered in and asked me a bunch of questions about Magic while I was still trying to sleep, which meant I was in a little bit of a grumpy mood when I rolled out of bed around 7:30.

Both kids were up by that point, and I helped get the kids ready. Bud was anxious to get to school, but we had about 10 minutes to wait at home before we headed off. He was still first in line for his class, and I hung out until he headed in.

The kids had a good day. Bud's leg was fine, and both kids did TKD in the afternoon. M-lady was home a little early, and was just wrapping up piano practice with Bud when I got home around 5:45. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and M-lady headed out for a team dinner.

I played a game of Magic with Bud, and then we settled in front of the TV to watch an episode of How It's Made before I started getting dinner ready. Buster had a brief grumpy period, and skipped dinner, but was fine in a few minutes. After Bud and I had eaten, we watched a few more minutes of TV before snack time.

Buster opted to have dinner at snack time, which he spent a long time eating. Bud had taken a shower and was ready for bed before Buster finished, around 8:20. I hustled him upstairs and got him ready for bed.

Both kids were good about going to bed, and I had a chance to read a couple of classic stories to Buster. We did one of my old favorites, The Tawny, Scrawny Lion. Both kids had lights out by 8:40, and were asleep before too long.

Settling Into Routine

M-lady was up for a 7:00am meeting, and Bud was up pretty early as well. M-lady got him some breakfast, and he was done when I rolled out of bed around 7:30. M-lady took Bud to school again, and I snuggled with Buster for a bit before getting him dressed and getting him some breakfast around the time Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day again. I got home around 5:45, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids and I played a little bit of Rock Band before M-lady arrived home. Bud did his piano practice, and we got started on dinner.

Bud was complaining of a pulled groin muscle, but it didn't seem to be bothering him too much during the evening. I think he'll be fine by tomorrow.

After dinner, M-lady headed out to an evening dinner event with her team, and I watched a little TV with the kids before snack and bed time. The kids were well behaved, and Buster and I worked on a BOB book before turning out the light. Bud and I read a bit together as well, and both kids were tucked in by 8:30.

Monday, August 20, 2012

Back to School

We did the school routine for Bud this morning, which wasn't too rusty. He was ready to go in plenty of time, and M-lady took him off to school after we got some 'First Day of Second Grade' photos. Buster and I hung out together until Nanny J arrived, and I headed off for work.

The kids both had good days. Buster enjoyed his first day of school, and the kids both did TKD in the afternoon. M-lady arrived home before I did, and the kids were playing around her when I arrived shortly after 6:00.

After confirming that Bud had a good first day of school, and was happy with his class, M-lady and I got dinner going. The kids ate well, and Buster played a little Xbox while Bud did his piano practice after dinner. I joined for a little bit on my guitar, but I'll need to practice a little more to keep up with him.

Snack time came up fairly quickly, and then I did bedtime with Buster. He read another BOB book with me, and did a solid job working through book #5. He's definitely getting it, and starting to remember some of the words. We turned the light out after watched a little bit of the synchronized swimming performances at the Olympics.

Park Day

I rolled out of bed around 8:30 this morning, and the kids were already pretty active. I got myself ready for a bike ride, and rolled out around the time M-lady was getting some breakfast for the kids.

Later in the morning they headed to a nearby park, where there was a gathering of dance friends with kids. Bud and Buster took their scooter, and Buster's glide bike, and apparently had a good time with those at the park. Cousin C was there as well.

I arrived on my bike around 11:30, and chatted with folks for a bit. The kids ate portions of the picnic lunch M-lady had packed, but overall seemed too busy playing to take time for a full lunch. I headed home a bit before 1:00, and arrived a few minutes before the rest of the family.

We all had some real lunch, and I got myself cleaned up. The kids were a little tired after the vigorous play at the park, and so we had a mellow afternoon, playing Magic and Xbox, and reading a bit. M-lady headed out to run some errands, but made it back pretty quickly.

We had dinner around 6:00ish, and after some stalling by Buster, we did end up all sitting at the table at the same time. After dinner, the kids headed outside to play for a bit, and I worked in the garage. We headed in around 7:30 for showers, snack, and getting ready for bed.

I chatted with Bud a bit after we turned out the light, and he was pretty excited about starting school in the morning. He has a friend in his class, and is looking forward to the new school year.

Back To School Shopping

The kids were up pretty early again, and M-lady got breakfast started for them before she headed out for ballet class. I headed downstairs and joined Buster for breakfast, while Bud had already finished up. After breakfast, the kids and I spent time hanging out together, playing Magic, and generally having a good time.

They let me snooze for about half an hour at 10:30, and then we all headed downstairs to play a little bit of Xbox before M-lady arrived home again and got started on lunch. We all had lunch together, and afterward rested a bit before loading up again and heading out to hit the library and Target.

We had fun at the library, and got a couple books for Buster as well as the usual 30 or so for Bud. Bud was also keen on getting some books about Magic: unfortunately the only ones available were novels, but we picked them up and I'll skim through them to see if Bud can get traction on one.

After the library, we headed to Target where the primary purpose was to purchase back-to-school supplies. Of course, it was pretty busy, mostly with other folks doing the same. We got what we needed, though, and headed home in the later afternoon.

I had also picked up some more Magic cards for myself, and Bud and I worked on evaluating and doing some trading. He was really excited to trade cards, so we worked out a few exchanges. Now we both have to build decks before we can play with the new cards.

I spent a little time in the afternoon making a batch of toffee, which turned out pretty well. Everyone enjoyed a couple little pieces during the afternoon and after dinner.

We made French toast for dinner, and everyone ate well. After dinner, I turned on the end of the Winnie the Pooh movie for Buster, who was excited to get to the specials. The kids had snack in succession, first Buster and then Bud. I watched Olympic archery with Buster at bedtime, and we turned the lights out around 8:30. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Fun Friday Evening

Both kids were up and jumping in our bed by 7:00 this morning. I sent them out around 7:30 after a couple of warnings, and they headed off to their own rooms. Fortunately, they don't seem to get upset when we kick them out in the morning. M-lady got up a short time later and got breakfast for Bud. I was up around 8:00, and played with the kids for a few minutes before Nanny J arrived and got some breakfast for Buster.

I worked from home in the morning, and the kids were good about leaving me alone. At about 10:30, a home inspector arrived. Buster got to the door first, but checked and didn't open the door (I believe he said something like, "It's a scary man.") After I showed the inspector around and he'd left again, Buster came and hung out with me while I was on a video call for work. I headed out to the office after the call, around lunchtime.

M-lady got home early and opened the magic cards which had arrived for Bud, which he had been eagerly expecting. By the time I got home, he had already examined and categorized the cards he'd gotten.

I hung out with kids for a bit, and M-lady and I got dinner started around 6:30. The kids selected Winnie The Pooh for movie night, and we sat and ate in front of the TV together. Since we'd started a little late, we had to cut the movie off after a bit for snack and bedtime. The kids were good about getting ready for bed. Lights out has moved back to about 8:30 in anticipation of school starting on Monday, and the kids have rolled with it without too much trouble.

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Toof

The kids were up a bit before 8:00, and M-lady got breakfast for Bud again before I got up. I rolled out around 8:00, got Buster dressed, and read another BOB book with him. Buster's did an admirable job sounding out words and actually reading the book. After finishing it up, we headed downstairs around the time Nanny J was arriving.

The kids had a good day. Bud was super excited when I got home, showing me that he'd lost his second front upper tooth (his 4th tooth lost overall). It apparently came out at snack time. Bud was speaking with a little bit of a lisp, and has a good-sized gap at the front of his mouth now.

We all hung out together for a little while, and then Babysitter G arrived and M-lady and I headed out to have an Anniversary Dinner together. The kids apparently ate a huge meal, and turned in early. I think they'd run themselves out a bit during the afternoon.

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Mellow Evening

Bud jumped in bed with us fairly early, and M-lady got up to get him some breakfast before 8:00. She found Buster curled up on the floor next to the bed as well.

I got up around 8:00, and hung out with Buster a bit while M-lady was on a phone call. Both kids were dressed by the time Nanny J arrived around 8:45, although Buster hadn't eaten breakfast yet. I headed out for work a few minutes later.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home a bit after 5:30, bearing flowers for M-lady to celebrate our anniversary. Buster was pretty impressed with the flowers, and followed me into the kitchen with them.

I settled in and we said goodbye to Nanny J, and M-lady arrived home a few minutes later. We all hung out together a bit, and I played a game of Magic with Bud before we got started on dinner. Both kids ate well, and Bud and I spent a little time fencing after dinner while Buster played some Xbox.

Buster opted to continue playing rather than have a snack, so he and I went straight to the bedtime routine at about 8:00. We watched some more Olympic events before bed, including fencing and Judo.

Happy Anniversary, M-lady!

Olympic Lego

The morning was fairly standard, although the kids were generally up a little late, and weren't interested in breakfast until after Nanny J arrived. Buster spent some time on Lego, and Bud was reading in his room. M-lady and I headed off for work after Nanny J showed up.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home around 5:45, and Buster greeted me by letting me know that he and Bud were building the Olympics. After dropping my stuff, I checked out their progress. They had arranged a set of plates, and had several events depicted, including an excellent discus throw. I helped by putting together a pole vault bar and pit, while Bud put together a marathon and the Olympic flame cauldron.

M-lady arrived home a short time later, and checked out the Lego, too. Everyone was preoccupied, and not really interested in dinner. I ate a bit before 7:00, and Buster sat with me, but wasn't interested in eating. He played with Batman Lego instead.

The other three ate around 7:30, followed immediately by snack and getting ready for bed. Bud and I looked at Magic cards online for a bit before turning the light out around 8:30. We're going to start getting back on school schedule this week, since Bud starts again on Monday.

Reading and Word Search

M-lady and I were up early this morning, and Nanny J arrived around 6:45, before either of the kids were awake. M-lady took me off to the Outpatient Surgery Center, where I had a small test procedure done. We returned home shortly after 11:00, while the kids and Nanny J were off at TKD.

M-lady and I were able to have some lunch, and I crashed before the kids arrived home. Apparently M-lady napped as well, although I missed that. Buster came and rested with me a bit around 3:00, and I roused myself around 3:30.

Bud was off at a play date with Friend D. Buster and M-lady had pulled out the BOB books, and they were working through the first couple. Buster has been working on letter sounds with M-lady, and was really excited to be figuring out how to read. I checked on them for a few minutes, and then headed to my computer. Buster followed me a few minutes later, asking that I work on the next BOB book with him.

M-lady headed out to pick up Bud, and I hung out with the kids a bit in the afternoon. We headed off to TGI Friday's for a fairly early dinner. While waiting for our meal, I worked on the word search on Buster's kid's menu with him for a few minutes. He proceeded to find several words on his own for the first time.

Both kids ate well, and we headed home after dinner. The kids played outside for half an hour, then came in and started getting ready for bed. We all watched some of the closing ceremonies together, and then had snack a little later than usual. I read the BOB books with Buster again at bedtime, and he plowed through the first two books again. He fell asleep a short time after turning out the lights around 9:00.

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Family Saturday

The kids jumped in bed with us around 8:00, but headed off to entertain themselves for a bit. I got up around 9:00, and headed out for a bike ride while M-lady got some breakfast for the kids. When I got back and showered, the kids and I played together for a short time before we packed up and loaded up in the car.

We headed over to one of M-lady's work friend's house for a BBQ, which was very nice. The kids were really well behaved while we chatted, and Bud ate well, while Buster deferred. We headed off before too long and made for home.

We chilled inside for the hottest part of the afternoon, and had a nice video chat with Grandma W. The kids both said hello, and got a little rambunctious on camera. After settling down for a bit, I took the kids out on a Target run while M-lady ran some other errands.

We met at Red Robin for dinner, and everyone ate well. After dinner, we all did the grocery store run together, and got home a bit after 6:30. The kids had some fun playing outside for a bit after we got home.

We watched a little bit of the Olympics before snack time, this time watching some TKD matches, which both kids were very interested in. We took a break for snack time, and then got ready for bed. I hung out with Bud, and we looked at some online info about Magic cards before turning the light out.

Another Olympic Evening

The morning routine was pretty straightforward again. The kids were in bed with us around 7:30, and we got up around 8:00. I got breakfast for the kids and headed off to work when Nanny J arrived.

M-lady arrived home first, and I picked up some dinner on the way home, arriving a bit after 6:00. In lieu of movie night, we settled in with dinner in front of the TV to watch more Olympic coverage. The kids were interested in watched volleyball, diving, and some track and field events.

Snack time came up fairly quickly, and the kids headed upstairs for bed after that. I played a quick game with Buster on the iPad before we turned out the light around 9:00. Both kids were asleep fairly quickly.

More Olympics

The morning saw both kids jump in bed with us shortly after 7:00, and hanging out for a bit. I rolled out around 8:00, got the kids some breakfast, and headed off for work when Nanny J arrived.

I got home around the same time M-lady did, and we settled in and said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids had had a good time at TKD again, and Bud was having a snack when we got home. We all chilled out for a bit, first just snuggling all together on our bed, and then working on the 3D castle puzzle together a bit before dinner time.

Buster ate some of his dinner with us, and Bud deferred. We watched some Olympics together, including some pole vault and men's apparatus gymnastics finals. That took us to piano, snack, and bedtime routines, which went pretty well. I chatted with Bud and watched a couple of small videos with him before we turned out the light a little before 9:00.

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Goggles

The morning was pretty usual. Buster came in to hang out for a bit before we got up, and I got breakfast for the kids before Nanny J arrived. M-lady and I headed out for work a short time later.

I had an evening event after work, so didn't make it home before the kids were asleep. M-lady reported that they had a good evening together. When she got home, the kids were swimming across the living room again, this time with their sunglasses on as swim goggles. They also did some fencing.

After dinner, they watched some of the women's gymnastics all-around competition, and had a usual snack and bedtime routine.

Another Day, Another Sport

Buster was in bed with us shortly after 7:00, happily snuggling with M-lady. We all got up around 8:00ish, and M-lady got the kids some breakfast after they were dressed. I headed to work around the time Nanny J arrived.

The kids had a good day, and had fun at TKD. M-lady got home a bit early to take Bud to his piano lesson, and I got home around 5:45. I found Buster playing volleyball with Nanny J: the kids had made a makeshift net by lining up foam blocks, chairs, tables, etc. Actually, it looked a bit like a Les Mis style barricade. In any case, Buster and Nanny J were batting a soft ball back and forth across the net. Buster was very excited to explain the rules to me when I walked in.

After saying goodbye to Nanny J, Buster and I played a little bit of volleyball together, before sitting down and playing a little bit of Wii Mario Kart until M-lady and Bud got home. Dinner followed shortly, and a little more volleyball followed.

We all sat down and watched a little bit more of the Olympics before snack time. Buster was disappointed there wasn't any gymnastics on, so he and I watched some on the iPad after getting ready for bed. Buster drifted off to sleep a bit before 9:00.

Monday, August 06, 2012

Mommy's Home!

The morning was pretty easy. The kids crawled into bed with me shortly after 7:00, and I only had to ask them to stop horsing around once or twice before I got up a bit after 8:00. We got dressed and I got them some breakfast before Nanny J arrived and I headed off to work.

M-lady arrived home in the late afternoon, shortly before the kids got home from TKD. The kids had a good time, and were really happy to see M-lady. They were showing off fencing skills when I got home.

We all chatted for a little while, looked at some pictures (both M-lady's and ours), and Bud and I played some Magic on the computer (I bought the latest computer version of the game). After a round, we headed downstairs to get some dinner. The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we all watched some Olympics together before snack time.

The kids ate solid snacks, and M-lady read stories with Buster while Bud and I played a couple more hands of Magic together. We turned in a little after 9:00.

Buster was up and down a bunch of times, clearly really excited that M-lady was home. I finally sat down with him for a bit, and he dropped off to sleep around 10:00.

Floor Swimming

Buster got in bed with me a little after 7:00, and snoozed with me until about 8:00. I got up a few minutes after that to start getting ready for a bike ride. I got the kids some breakfast, and then headed out for a ride when Nanny J arrived around 9:30.

The kids seem to have had a good morning, and were playing vigorously and running around the house when I got home around noon. We said goodbye to Nanny J, I took a shower, and we headed out to the grocery store. After picking up necessities and restocking our fruit supply, we headed over to Jamba Juice for lunch before heading home.

The kids and I sipped juice in front of the TV and watched the Olympics for a while. The kids have really enjoyed just about everything we've watched. Today we saw more swimming and some of the first field events.

I took a break and rested for a bit, and while I was down the kids started doing swim races. They showed me a bit later how they would dive in and swim across the floor, and Bud has asked when we can head back to the pool.

Buster played a bit of Wii Mario Kart while Bud and I played a couple games of Magic. Bud's starting to understand the mechanics of the game a bit more, but the decks we purchased are much more complex and difficult to play, so he's still getting the hang of those.

I got some dinner together, and the kids ate well. After dinner we watched more Olympics until snack time. We had a nice video chat with M-lady before bedtime, and we're all looking forward to her return. Bedtime was pretty straightforward, and both kids were tucked in by about 9:00.

Pleasant Day Together

The kids were up around 8:00 this morning, and I rolled out of bed around 8:30. I had intended to get going fairly quickly, but it was overcast, cool, and slightly foggy out, so I decided to wait and see if the clouds would burn off a bit before we headed out.

We had pancakes for breakfast, and by the time we were done it had warmed enough to permit our outing. I packed up three Camelbaks, and we loaded into the car and headed up to Castle Rock park for a hike. The kids were excited about their Camelbaks, and enjoyed hiking up to the rocks.

They had a great time clambering about on the rocks, and they've gotten to be better climbers since we were up there. I had to stay underneath them a bit, but they did a good job. We climbed, hiked, snacked, hiked a bit more, and made it back to the car to head home.

We cleaned up a bit and had lunch when we got home a bit after 1:00. Buster and I ended up drifting off and napping a bit, and Bud spent time reading. When I got up, Bud and I worked on a puzzle together and played some Magic.

We rousted Buster a bit later, got him dressed, and headed off to the mall for dinner and the Lego store. I got small things for the kids for being good this week, and Buster selected a Batman Lego set. We swung by Toys 'R Us on the way home to pick up some Magic cards for Bud (and myself) so he could have his own deck.

Bud got through his piano practice when we got home, and Buster got started on his Lego set. After Bud had finished, we looked at the new Magic cards, had a snack, showered, and got ready for bed. Bud and I played a game of Magic (he won) while Buster watched some Busytown Mysteries.

We had a nice video chat with M-lady before getting the kids tucked in bed. They were pretty happy to see her, and tell her about the day. Both kids were good about getting into bed, and fell asleep pretty quickly.

Exemplary

Buster crawled into bed with me around 7:30 this morning, and promptly dozed off. He was snoozing when I got up about 20 minutes later. He was up by 8:15, though, which was when the kids and I headed downstairs to get some breakfast.

I took Bud to camp, and his drop off went fine. He's still a little leery of some of the over-enthusiastic councilors.

I headed back to Bud's camp at about 2:30, where I met Buster and Nanny J. We all attended Bud's 'last day of camp open house', which was primarily a presentation by the councilors about what they did this week. The kids did some chants and sang some songs, too.

When they showed what the kids had been doing in the science class (building bridges), the bridge that they showed as a model was apparently Bud's bridge. He was surprised and really pleased that his bridge had been demonstrated. After the presentation, we picked up the rest of his stuff and headed home.

I worked for a bit, and the kids played. When Nanny J took her leave, the kids and I headed out to pick up some dinner. We ate in front of the TV, watching the Olympics. The kids have enjoyed watching all sorts of competitions, from swimming to archery to weightlifting. They get bored with cycling pretty quickly, though.

We had snack and bed time, and they both went pretty smoothly.

Catching Up

Buster wandered in early, around 7:00, then wandered out again. Apparently he didn't see me in bed, and wandered around the house a bit looking for me. He finally found me in bed, and came and joined me for a bit.

We got up closer to 8:00, and had a pretty straightforward morning. I got Bud ready for water day at camp, and put him in his bathing suit. The camp drop-off went fine.

I had a late meeting, and didn't get home until about 8:30. Babysitter G had arrived to relieve Nanny J, and the kids got out of bed to say hello to me. I settled in and put them each to bed, and chatted with them both about what they did during the day.

Buster had enjoyed the morning, had a good lunch with Nanny J, picked up Bud from camp, and went to TKD in the afternoon. Bud had skipped the water play at camp, preferring to work on the bridge he's building, and then joined Buster at TKD after coming home. Both kids were good about going to bed once the lights went out.

Delayed Bedtime

The kids were up around the same time I rolled out of bed, a bit before 8:00. Buster watched me get dressed, and then we rounded up Bud to go get some breakfast. I tamed the kids' hair after eating, sunblocked Bud, and headed off to camp with him after Nanny J arrived.

The kids had a good day. Bud headed over to Friend N's house after camp, and Nanny J picked him up there around 5:00. I got home around the same time, and both kids were excited to see me. Buster let me know he'd earned another tape on his TKD belt, and has one more to go before he's ready to test for his orange belt. Bud had thoroughly enjoyed his day, and was a little tired out.

Nanny J took off after getting Buster into the bathtub. After saying goodbye, the boys and I sat in front of the TV for a bit and watched the Olympics. I got some dinner together, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, we had time for Bud to do his piano practice before we had a snack and started the bedtime routine.

I ended up being wrapped up in a phone call for a bit, and then M-lady called and we had a quick video chat with her. When we actually got started on the bedtime routine, it was already almost 9:00. We didn't get the lights out until about 9:15, but the kids were pretty tired and fell asleep quickly.
