Composing

I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:45, and Buster was up a short time later. I got some breakfast for the kids, and then got myself dressed. Bud was ready to go to school without rushing too much, and we made it in time for him to wait in line by the door for a few minutes before the bell went off. I headed back home after dropping him off, and Nanny J arrived around the same time.

M-lady and I stayed home until about 9:30, when we all headed over to Buster new preschool for open house. Buster got to meet his teachers, which he did dutifully, and explore the playground and classroom, which he did with considerably more excitement. He seemed pretty comfortable, and I headed off for work before he headed back home with Nanny J.

I got home around 5:00, and found Buster playing Monopoly with Nanny J again. Bud was reading in his room. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, the kids and I sat down to a fresh game of Monopoly. We had a good time until the kids got bored after about 45 minutes. We cleaned up and settled in to watch a bit of TV before M-lady arrived home.

M-lady joined us for a bit, and around 7:00 we got dinner going. The kids eventually ate pretty well, and Bud did a solid piano practice. After Bud's practice, he started playing around on the piano, and actually started towards composing a song. It will be interesting to see if he can really compose.

We did a standard snack and bedtime routine. I read a bit with Bud, and we turned the light out around 8:30. Bud fell asleep pretty quickly.

Game Night

M-lady had an early meeting this morning, and Buster apparently flopped on her lap while she was on the call. He then slept in bed with us for the remainder of the morning. M-lady and I got up around 7:30, and got ready for the day. M-lady had to head off for work early, so I got Bud some breakfast, and managed to rouse and dress Buster. We all headed off to drop Bud at school, where we arrived just after the bell sounded.

Buster and I headed back home, and we were just getting him some breakfast when Nanny J arrived. I packed up and headed for work a short time later.

M-lady met Nanny J and the kids at Bud's TKD class. Buster had fallen asleep on the drive over, so Nanny J took him home, while M-lady stayed for the class and saw Bud get awarded his orange belt. M-lady took Bud home after class, and then took the kids when Nanny J left after 5:00.

I got home a bit after 6:00, and Bud had already had dinner. Buster had deferred. The kids had pulled down Monopoly from the shelf, and were playing with each other (making up the rules as they went). The did that for most of the evening.

Snack time came up before too long, and Buster ate a solid dinner (and snack) at that point. Bud headed upstairs to get ready for bed first, and then Buster and I headed up. I got Buster ready for bed, and then we read a few stories, played a game of Battleship, and turned the light out around 8:30. He fell asleep a bit after 9:00, which was surprisingly early given his nap earlier in the day.

Reading Again

Bud was a little slow getting out of bed this morning, but I managed to finally get him up a few minutes before 8:00. He had a quick breakfast, and then got himself dressed in time to head to school with M-lady around 8:15. Buster was up by that time, and we played Lego together until Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I was busy with car stuff after work, and M-lady got home to relieve Nanny J. I arrived home around 6:30. When I walked in the door, the first thing Bud told me was that he picked up the book we'd started reading in the evening (Lloyd Alexander's The Book of Three), and read halfway through it today. Unfortunately, it's been too long since I read the book, and now I need to catch up.

I helped get dinner ready, and everyone ate pretty well. After dinner, we had a few minutes to play some Rock Band at Buster's request before snack time.

Bud had eschewed his bath earlier in the day, so I got him bathed before he got into his PJs. We read a couple chapters from The Book of Three before turning out the light around 8:45. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Priority Dilemma

The kids were up around 8:00 again, and managed breakfast for themselves for the most part. M-lady headed out around 9:30 to an Art and Wine festival, and I got up to hang out with the kids.

M-lady got back around 11:30, and we had some lunch a short time later. The kids ate well, and after lunch we played for a short time before starting to pack up for our outing of the day.

We were heading up to Castle Rock for a hike, and I got Bud's and my Camelbaks ready and filled. Buster wanted his own Camelbak, though, so I scrounged an extra bladder I had and put it in his small backpack. With some creative use of velco ties, he was all set.

We drove up and found a parking spot, and then had a nice hike through the forest. The kids had a great time playing on the rocks, and M-lady and I got to take some photos with the new camera. Buster walked the whole way on his own, but was good about holding my hand when the footing got less stable.

We were thoroughly dusty and dirty when we got home, so we all stripped down and showered. After getting all cleaned up, we loaded up again to go out to dinner. The kids ate well again, and we headed home fed and happy.

After dinner I worked on my workbench in the garage while the kids played outside. I've been coating the work surface of my bench with epoxy, and I was in the middle of painting a coat around the edge when Buster ran inside. He opened the door again a few moments later, reporting to me that he'd had an accident. There was poop on his leg.

It was my worst dilemma of the day. There are very few things that trump poop cleanup, but time expiring on epoxy seems to be one of them. I got M-lady to come down and get started on cleaning up Buster while I finished applying the epoxy, and then headed in to help finish up the cleanup.

I got Buster into PJs, and snack time came up shortly. The kids had quick snacks, and I read a bunch of books to Buster before we turned out the light around 8:30. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly after a busy day with no nap.

Various Naps

Buster wandered into bed around 3:30 this morning, and I took him back to his bed. I don't think the kids bothered us again until about 8:00. M-lady was kind enough to get up with the kids and let me sleep for another couple hours.

I got out of bed around 10:00 and joined the family. Bud did a solid piano practice, and I played with the kids just a little bit before we had some lunch. Both kids ate pretty well, and after lunch we loaded up in the car to run some errands. We hit Target first, where we didn't find much of anything we were looking for. We did get some 'Thomas the Train' underwear for Buster at his request, and the kids got little Ninjago Lego sets as well. After that, we headed to the library, where we got another bagload of books for Bud.

The final stop was the grocery store, where we did the usual weekly grocery shopping, but as a whole family for the first time I can remember. The kids were generally well behaved, and we made it home by mid-afternoon. After unloading groceries, M-lady and I napped a bit in the later afternoon. The kids seem to have entertained themselves and each other for a while.

Buster had just fallen asleep on the floor when I woke up. I headed out to pick up some dinner, and Bud and M-lady and I ate when I got back. Bud and I then headed out to the garage for a bit to work on finishing my workbench.

We came back in for snacktime. Buster woke enough to join us for snack, at which point he had his dinner. I read to Bud for a while before turning out the light, and Bud fell asleep reasonably quickly.

Buster, however, was still getting out of bed and running around at 10:30. I sat with him for a bit, and he finally dropped off just after 11:00. Hopefully it won't affect his overall sleep patterns too much.

Best Student

Apologies for missing yesterday: I ended up working all night, and got home in time to help get the kids ready in the morning before heading back to work after Nanny J arrived.

I came home a bit early, around 4:00, to pick Bud up and take him to his TKD belt test for his orange belt. As usual, Bud was outstanding, and definitely one of the most capable kids in his class, with a remarkable maturity in his movement matched, interestingly enough, only by his best friend, D. Bud did very well through his punches, kicks, and forms. He did a good job with his board break as well, and answered the verbal questions extremely competently.

The lead instructor gave out awards at this testing for the first time that I've seen. One of the older girls received the 'best break' award for her board break, and then Friend D received 'best kicking'. The instructor then gave a preface about how this student had been exceptional from his first class, and focuses and works hard all the time. Bud then received the award for 'Best Student'. The judging instructors offered their congratulations to me as well, and I was as proud as I've been with him.

After the test, I had the opportunity to congratulate Friend D and his mother, and then Bud and I met M-lady in the parking lot, who had arrived with a sleeping Buster. M-lady took the kids to a BBQ while I attended a dinner for one of my coworkers who is leaving.

The kids were apparently very well behaved the BBQ, and really enjoyed the food. Both had roasted corn on the cob, and Bud had a slider and two pieces of homemade pizza as well. M-lady didn't stay too long, though, and they headed home where M-lady got the kids ready for bed.

Many thanks to M-lady for taking care of the kids this evening. I got home around 9:30, and both kids jumped out of bed to greet me. I got Buster tucked in again, and then was able to lie down with Bud. Both kids went to sleep fairly quickly.

I'm still bursting with pride about Bud's accomplishments in his TKD class. He is among the most focused of all the kids of any age I've seen, and his movements are very precise and controlled. If he sticks with TKD, I expect he'll be able to continue to advance very quickly.

A Whole New Playground

We all rolled out of bed around 7:30 or so this morning. Buster skipped joining us in the night, and Bud took his brother downstairs to get breakfast first thing. Bud was pretty good about getting himself ready to go, and I took Bud to school around 8:15 while Buster was hanging out with M-lady.

The kids seem to have had a good day. When I arrived home around 5:00, both kids were bathed after Bud's TKD this afternoon. I dropped a few things, and we said goodbye to Nanny J.

We had a nice video chat with Grandma W, which we took outside to show her the new car. I also needed to get the new floor mats I picked up today installed, and the kids had a wonderful time jumping in and out of the car via various doors while I worked. I believe they were pretending it was a Star Wars Clone Gunship (or LAAT), and were a little disappointed when I was finished. I managed to keep them happy by going for a drive around the block with them.

When we got back home, we got started on dinner. Both kids ate really well, and we were just wrapping up when M-lady arrived home. She supervised Bud's piano practice, which he did well, and I took the opportunity to snooze until bedtime.

I got Buster into PJs when he came upstairs, and then read stories with Bud until it was time to turn out the light. Bud took a while to fall asleep, but both kids eventually dropped off.

Nighttime Trends

The past couple of nights Buster has wandered in and crawled into bed with us between 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning. I've carried him back to bed once, M-lady has taken him back, and we've both not noticed him at least once until we get up in the morning. Not sure why he started wandering in, but he's not put out at all when we put him back in his bed (he's usually mostly asleep already).

In any case, M-lady had an odd alarm clock issue this morning as she learned how the snooze button works on her iPhone alarm. We woke a couple of times, and at some point Buster had joined us. I got up for good around 7:30, and Buster was up a short time after that. Bud rousted himself before 8:00 and got some breakfast for himself and his brother again.

Bud was ready to go to school in plenty of time, and loaded up with M-lady around 8:15. I played with Lego with Buster until Nanny J arrived, and then headed off for work.

M-lady got home first to take care of the kids. Bud had gone to TKD today, and had a good time. He has another belt test coming up at the end of the week, and he's pretty excited about it.

Bud was practicing piano when I got home around 6:00, and finished up as I dropped my things and unpacked a little bit. M-lady had prepared dinner, so we ate before too long. Both kids ate solid dinners. After dinner, the kids played a little bit of Xbox before snack time.

I got Buster into PJs, and he pulled about half the books off his shelf to read before bed. We got through them, and a quick game of Battleship on the iPad before turning out the light. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly: we'll see if he wanders in again tonight.

Going For A Drive

Buster wandered in and climbed into bed with us around 3:30 this morning, and I carried him back to bed. He was mostly asleep, so I was able to just drop him back in bed without issue. He got up for good a bit after 7:00, and came to hang out with us.

I got Bud out of bed around 7:45, and he jumped up and took Buster with him downstairs to get breakfast by himself. I helped out getting the cereal out of the pantry, but left him to it after that. A little after 8:00 I prompted Bud to get dressed for school, and he was ready to go by 8:15.

I took Bud to school in the new car, which he seemed to enjoy. The drop off was fine: pretty soon we'll be able to leave him when we get him to the door, and I expect we'll be able to drop him off at the curb before much longer.

I got home a bit early, around 4:30. Buster greeted me, without pants, and let me know it was almost bath time (which explained the lack of pants). I got a little more work done, and the kids got bathed, before we said goodbye to Nanny J.

Buster and I played a little bit of Rock Band, and Bud played a little Lego Star Wars before M-lady arrived home. Bud got started on his piano practice forthwith, and we all had some dinner a short time later. The kids ate reasonably well.

After dinner, I got Buster's carseat moved over to the new car, and the kids and I clambered in. M-lady came along shortly, and we all spent a few minutes getting comfortable and checking out some of the features. Then we headed out for a short drive together, to try out the new conveyance. Everyone agreed it was very comfortable and enjoyable, and should be fantastic for long road trips.

We got home near 8:00, and we headed in for a snack and bedtime routines. The kids were pretty good about getting ready for bed, and I read a few chapters of a Boxcar Children book to Bud before we turned out the light around 8:45. Both kids fell asleep reasonably quickly.

Patience

Buster came in to our room this morning shortly after 7:00, and around 7:30 I got up to start getting ready for a bike ride. I got Buster some breakfast while I was up and about. Bud was awake before I left at about 8:00 as well.

Bud apparently got breakfast for himself and a second breakfast for Buster a little later in the morning. I'd left some bowls and the box of cereal out, and we just got a new little pitcher that Bud can handle that we filled with milk the night before. Bud successfully poured cereal and milk for himself and Buster, and was very proud of himself. And M-lady got to snooze a little bit longer.

M-lady, Buster, and Bud headed to the park later in the morning to visit with other dance friends with kids. They apparently had a great time, and the kids had fun playing in the sand. I arrived on my bike just as they were packing up to head home, around 12:30.

I got home a few minutes after they did, and after having my own lunch, got the kids into the shower with me. We got all the sand off them, and settled in for a mellow afternoon. M-lady headed out to do some shopping, and I hung out with the kids. Buster fell asleep on our bed while we were hanging out, and Bud watched some Sesame Street on the computer for a bit.

M-lady arrived home around 5:30, and we all loaded up and headed over to the car dealership. We ended up getting a new minivan, and the purchasing process took a long time. The kids were really patient, and generally really well behaved. M-lady took them to grab a quick dinner and brought it back to the dealership while I did paperwork, but they weren't able to head for home (we needed M-lady's signatures) until about 8:30.

M-lady got the kids home and into bed, and I sat with Buster as soon as I got home. He eventually fell asleep, but it took a while. Bud was already asleep by the time I got home, which was good since he has school tomorrow.

High Expectations

The kids were up fairly early this morning, and M-lady fielded them. I was mostly trashed from a tough work week, and M-lady was kind enough to let me snooze until about 10:00. The kids were in the bed with us from time to time, and I kicked them out when they got too rowdy.

The kids had already eaten two breakfasts by the time I got up and joined them. After some reluctance, I got them out of the house and over to the grocery store. We all actually had a good time shopping, and the kids got to pick some things out. It was nearing 1:00 when we got back and got lunch going. M-lady was out running errands by that time.

The kids ate pretty well, and after lunch we played some Xbox. For a while, the kids played while I chatted with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and the kids said a brief hello. M-lady got back a bit before 4:00, and I headed out to test drive a mini-van.

The salesman was kind enough to offer to let me drive the car back to our place, where M-lady was also able to test drive. When we arrived, I invited the kids outside to see the car. On his way down the stairs, Bud asked, "Is it a Ferrari?"

Sorry to disappoint, Bud. Not this time.

Bud was interested in the car, and clambered around in the back for a bit. M-lady had a quick test drive, and then I took the car back to the lot. When I got home, I played outside with the kids for a bit before dinner time.

The kids ate a pretty solid dinner, and afterward Bud finished up his piano practice and I played a little bit with Buster. We played a little bit of Rock Band before it was snack time and bed time.

Buster was really tired as I was reading him stories, and actually fell asleep as we were watching the last video.

End of the Week

M-lady rolled Bud out of bed around 7:30, and I got myself up around the same time. Buster was up a short time later, and I got breakfast together for the kids around 8:00. Bud was good about getting ready for school.

Bud and I headed out around 8:15, and I dropped him off at class with no problems. He trotted in and looked content. He apparently had a good day at school, and enjoyed getting outside to run around several times during the day with recess, PE, and lunch.

M-lady got home in time to see Nanny J off, and the kids were playing cards (Bakugan-style card battle) when I arrived home. I watched a little TV with the kids while M-lady headed out to pick up some dinner, and we all ate together when she got back.

Bud practiced piano for a bit, and I played with Lego with Buster. Snack time came up pretty quick, and then bedtime (after Bud finished up his practice). Bud and I read stories for a bit at bedtime, and watched a couple short videos before turning out the light around 8:30.

First Day as a First Grader

M-lady went to check on Bud around 7:30 this morning, and he was already getting up. He got himself dressed, and I saw him around 7:45, and got both kids some breakfast around 8:00. We decided to all go to drop Bud off at school today, which slowed us down a little bit. We made sure he had his lunch, and all piled into the car.

We managed to get to school on time, which was very busy on the first day, of course. After waiting a couple of minutes with a large crowd of kids and parents, we all filed into Bud's new classroom. The teacher introduced herself and gave some useful information, and we waved goodbye to Bud and headed back home, where Nanny J was waiting for us.

Bud enjoyed his first full school day. He was very excited that he had two chances to play outside: recess and lunch. I think he and his friends spent most of the recesses investigating the new, big-kid playground.

M-lady picked Bud up from school, and Bud and Buster headed with Nanny J straight to TKD. They were a little late, since the first pickup took a bit longer than usual, but had a good time. The kids were bathed by the time I got home at 5:00.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I played on the Xbox with the kids for a while. Bud let me know that he had a good day at school, and we talked about it a little bit. He and I ate dinner first, and Buster ate a bit later with M-lady. Both kids ate pretty solid dinners. Bud practiced his piano while I napped on the sofa a bit, and then both kids jumped on me for about 10 minutes before we started snack time.

Buster was good about going to bed, and while he seemed really tired, it took him a while to fall asleep.

The Power of Cookies

M-lady and the kids were up early again. I rolled out of bed a bit before 8:00, and made sure that Bud was up. M-lady got them some breakfast around 8:00, and they were happily playing together when I headed out around 8:30.

They seem to have had a good day. They were excited to see me when I got home, and we played a bit after Nanny J left. After a short time, I set up Buster playing some Rock Band, and got to work baking cookies. Buster did a pretty good job on the drums.

The kids played some Lego Star Wars together, and Buster had a live Xbox controller for the first time. However, I think he found it a little more difficult than he would have liked, and I found him logged out and just watching Bud when I checked in on them again a short time later.

M-lady was home briefly before running out to do some errands. When the cookies were just about done, we stopped the gaming to have some dinner. The kids ate really, really well in anticipation of getting a cookie. I let them each have a cookie after dinner, and Bud got started on his piano practice after that.

M-lady arrived home a short time later, and watched the kids for a bit before snack and bedtime. We had a visitor in the evening who was chatting with M-lady, so I did snack time with the kids, where they were excited to get another cookie. Bedtime was pretty straightforward, and Bud and I read a story and watched a couple videos before turning out the light around 8:45.

Lunch Practice

M-lady was again up early for her class, and the kids got up fairly early as well. I rolled myself out of bed a little after 8:00. The kids had already had breakfast with M-lady, and were generally keeping themselves entertained. I got my stuff together and headed out to work a few minutes before Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. M-lady took the kids toy Bud's piano lesson in the afternoon, which went pretty well. I wasn't able to get home until about 7:00, which was after the rest of the family had eaten dinner. They had eaten sandwiches, and they'd packed them in Bud's new lunch boxes to make sure he can get them open when he has his first day of full-length school on Thursday. He had no problems.

I made myself some dinner when I got home, and the kids played in the living room while I was eating. By the time I was finishing up, it was just about snack time, and the kids came to have snack with me. After snack, I got Buster ready for bed, and we read his What to Expect at Preschool book again. We didn't turn the light out until nearly 9:00, and he fell asleep immediately.

Explaining Anniversary

M-lady has early meetings all this week, and was gone by the time Bud woke shortly after 8:00. I got myself up a few minutes later, and Buster was still asleep when Nanny J arrived at 8:45. I took a meeting from home, and then headed off to work at about 10:00. Bud was reading in his room, and Buster was playing with Lego with Nanny J.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I arrived home with a boquet for M-lady for our anniversary, and I needed to explain what an anniversary was to Bud. It took a couple tries, but when I likened it to a birthday he got it.

Bud enjoyed TKD, although he told me that he made a few mistakes. I think he prides himself on not making mistakes in class, but we talked about what learning was all about.

We said goodbye to Nanny J after I'd dropped my things, and the kids and I settled in front of the TV to play a little bit of Xbox together. M-lady arrived home before too long, and we got some dinner going shortly after that.

The kids ate a good dinner, and Bud did a solid piano practice afterward, with some breaks for running around the living room a bit. We had a snack around 7:45, and a fairly straightforward bedtime. Bud and I read some stories, watched a video, and turned the light out around 8:40. He took a while to fall asleep.

Happy Anniversary, M-lady! And thanks to all for the anniversary wishes we've received!

Lunch Request

The kids were up fairly early, and were playing with each other well when I headed out for an early bike ride. Apparently the kids had a great time playing together with their new Lego in the morning. M-lady reported that they had a late breakfast, and a very pleasant morning together.

I got home a little before 1:00, and they hadn't had lunch yet. After getting myself a quick bite, I got some lunch ready for the family, and then took a shower. As I was getting out, I had this exchange with Bud:
Bud: I want you to play with me.
Me: I need to eat lunch, then I'll play with you.
Bud: Can you eat lunch very fast, so I don't have to wait so long?

After I had eaten, I played with the kids a bit. We ended up in front of the TV for some of the afternoon, watching the end of Star Wars Episode II and playing some Xbox together. M-lady managed to run some errands during the afternoon as well.

We had dinner fairly late in the evening, near 7:30. The kids had largely entertained themselves in the late afternoon-early evening, thanks in part to my iPad. We all had a good dinner together, and after dinner M-lady got Buster in a bathtub, and I showered Bud. With clean kids, we did snack time and then bedtime.

Buster was good through the bedtime routine, and we read his 'What to Expect at Preschool' book together and talked about it a little bit. He was asleep almost as soon as the lights went out.

Day of Treats

The kids we up around 7:00, and jumped into bed with us, mostly on M-lady. She got up and got them breakfast, but before 8:00 they were back and kicking. The kids were eventually cast out of the room, and we got up a short time later. M-lady got a second breakfast for the kids, and then I played with them for a bit.

M-lady headed out to run some errands, andnthe kids and I watched some more of Star Wars Episode II. Bud was asking questions constantly, although I think he could figure most of it out himself. We took a break a bit before 11:00, shorty before M-lady arrived home.

We ate lunch early, and the kids ate pretty well. Bud did a solid piano practice in there as well. After lunch, we packed up and headed out to Happy Hollow for some of the afternoon.

We did a somewhat abbreviated run at Happy Hollow, punctuated with the purchase of Icees. It was a fairly hot day, and we got them on our way out since we were planning to walk to the nearby Spirit of 1945 celebration. The kids were good on the walk, and I only carried Buster on my shoulders towards the end.

We had fun looking at vintage cars, and caught up with a friend briefly before heading back. The kids were pretty tired, but still willing to run a couple more errands. We hit Santana Row on the way back, and Bud came with me to pick out a new backpack (for me), while Buster went with M-lady to find containers to help wi packing Bud's lunch in the upcoming school year.

After those errands were done, we headed to the nearby Valley Faire mall for an early dinner. The kids ate well, and Buster was good about using the bathroom. He used a urinal for the first time!

After dinner, we headed over to e Lego store. We let the kids pick out a Lego set each, since they've been pretty good this summer. The kids were really excited, and they were anxious to get home and play with the new Lego. Buster fell asleep almost immediately after we got in the car, though.

Bud played with his new Lego while Buster snoozed when we got home, and them Buster played with his when he woke up. Babysitter G arrived a short time later, and the kids played Lego and Ninjago spinners with her until snack and bedtime, apparently. The kids were well behaved all evening, and all day for that matter. The whole family had fun together today.

Missing A Day

The kids were up around 7:00, and jumped into bed with us. Both kids got a few good kicks into me before M-lady took them downstairs for breakfast. I got up before 8:00 to get on a meeting, and the kids were in and out a bit while I was on the call. I had to head out when my call wrapped up around 9:30, and the kids were playing with Nanny J as I left.

I didn't get home until about 7:45. M-lady had gotten home to relieve Nanny J, and the kids had apparently had a good day and a good evening with M-lady. They had both eaten good dinners. Bud greeted me as I came in the door, and let me know that he'd gotten the stripe on his belt at TKD today with denotes that he's ready to test for the next level... he'll be an orange belt by the end of the month.

The kids were having their snack when I got home, and I took Buster upstairs to get ready for bed. He was pretty good about getting into PJs and getting his teeth brushed. We read a story together, played a game of Battleship on the iPad, and watched a video before turning out the light. Buster took a long time to fall asleep, drifting off around 9:30.

Bubble Wrap Fun

The kids were up before 8:00 this morning, and after they jumped in bed with us I headed with them downstairs to get them some breakfast. M-lady and I were able to snooze for another half-hour or so, as aside from getting breakfast, the kids are getting remarkably self-sufficient in the morning. Nanny J arrived around 8:45, and M-lady and I headed for work soon after.

I got home around 5:00, and found Buster playing with Lego with Nanny J in his room, and Bud playing with his Bakugan. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I turned on a DVD that M-lady brought back from BlogHer for the kids. They seemed to enjoy it, and the content was reasonably tolerable for an adult.

M-lady arrived home as the DVD was wrapping up, and she got dinner ready. Bud ate well, but Buster deferred a bit. After dinner, Bud did a quick piano practice, and I baked some chocolate chip cookies. M-lady also unwrapped a package which arrived for her, and gave the kids the big pieces of bubble wrap (the kind with big bubbles). Bud had a blast putting the wrap on the floor and stomping on it, and Buster seemed to have a good time watching him.

The bubble wrap provided a solid half hour of entertainment, and by that time the cookies were ready. The kids each had one (Buster finished his dinner first), and then played a little more before snack time, when they each got another one. Bedtime was pretty straightforward, and Bud and I read a story, watched a video, and played a quick game of Bakugan before turning out the light at about 8:45.

Available Information

The kids were up early this morning, and were very loud playing with Ama and Agu downstairs after getting some breakfast. I had worked late the night before, and managed to snooze until about 9:00. I headed out for work a short time later.

The kids again had a good day playing with Ama and Agu. I got home around 5:30 again, and was able to hang out with the kids for a bit before dinner time. M-lady arrived home, and we ate a little earlier than usual.

The kids both ate well, and after dinner I got Bud set up on the computer where he had fun checking out the website of his newest passion, Bakugan. He spent the better part of an hour watching promotional and how-to videos on the website. Meanwhile, Buster and I had a good time playing some Rock Band together until snack time.

The kids had a good snack, and Bud asked for Agu to put him to bed. The kids said goodnight and goodbye to the grandparents, as they'll probably be gone before the kids get up in the morning. Buster and I read stories and played on the iPad a bit with Buster before bed. We turned the lights out a bit after 8:30, and he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Intro to Programming

Today was fairly usual, with the extra benefit of having Ama and Agu visiting. The kids were up a bit before 8:00, and headed downstairs before too long to get some breakfast with them. M-lady and I did our usual morning thing with a little less distraction, and I headed out to work shortly after Nanny J arrived.

The kids had a good day. Ama went with Bud to his TKD class, and was very impressed with his focus and discipline. The kids seem to have kept the grandparents busy and entertained.

I got home around 5:30, after Nanny J had left. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we all had a great dinner prepared by Ama and Agu. The kids ate well, and I was able to escape for a short nap after dinner. I got up in time to help with snack and bed time.

Bud and I read some stories together, and then talked a little bit about programming. I grabbed a laptop and set up a modern version of the Logo programming language on it, and we played with it and talked about it for a while. It looks like he may be interested in playing with it a bit more, so I think it's about time to set up a laptop for him.

The Happy Return of Mommy

Buster was up a bit before midnight. I found him in our room with a bloody nose: he had blood all over his face, hands, and shirt. He'd managed to mostly keep from dripping on the floor, though. I remembered the QuikClot nosebleed hemostatic gauze we had (now highly recommended), and stuffed a roll up Buster's nose. By the time he was all cleaned up and stray floor spots had been identified, his nose had stopped bleeding. I finished cleaning him up, and he headed back to bed without any protest.

The kids managed to get me up a bit after 8:00, as Buster had made a bit of a mess. I got him and the mess cleaned up, and then got started on breakfast for the kids. As I'd promised the night before, I made roll-up pancakes for them, which they really enjoyed. After breakfast, I worked on laundry and then snoozed on the couch as they played video games for a little while.

Lunchtime came upon us, and I made sandwiches for the boys. They were excited to try out the Star Wars sandwich cutters Bud had received as part of his birthday present from Aunt K. Buster had a Tie Fighter sandwich, and Bud had a Millenium Falcon. The cutters worked pretty well, and the kids were satisfied.

M-lady arrived home as we were finishing up lunch. After she dropped her things, I made a Millenium Falcon sandwich for her as well. The kids were super excited to see her, and I was able to escape upstairs for a bit.

A short time later, Ama and Agu arrived, and the kids had a great time playing with them. They brought some small toys for the kids, which thoroughly grabbed their attention.

In the later afternoon, I played a video game on my computer, and the kids sat and watched me play for a while. They eventually abandoned me because the game was boring. Around 4:00, I headed out for a quick bike ride. We had dinner fairly quickly after I got back.

The kids ate well, and I showered them after dinner. Bud mostly showered himself with my supervision, which was cool. A few more supervised showers, and he'll be able to just go wash himself.

At about 7:30, M-lady and I headed out to see a movie. The kids were already in their PJs, and Ama and Agu did snack and bedtime with the kids. The kids were apparently very good and went to sleep without any issues.

It's good to have M-lady home again!

A Full Saturday

The kids were up around 7:30 this morning, and I got them some breakfast at about 7:45. I proceeded to crawl back in bed for about 20 minutes before I got up and got myself and the kids dressed and prepped for heading out.

We hit the road at about 9:30 after packing up some stuff and getting sunscreen on the kids. We had a pleasant drive up to Ardenwood Farm, where the kids and Cousin C had such a good time last week. We got there right as they opened, and met Ama, Agu, and Cousin C there as well.

We all headed in to the farm, and the kids immediately had a great time picking sticks up off the ground. We wandered farther in, and after a bit of rerouting, ended up finding where people were picking blackberries. Each child was given a bag, and we picked blackberries for a while.

The kids did a great job, and we spent a fair amount of time harvesting. After walking along the bushes a bit, and picking about a pound of blackberries, we wandered back to other parts of the farm.

We had a snack, saw a peacock, and visited the aviary and chicken coop before deciding it was time to make our way back out. We headed back over to Aunt O and Uncle C's place, just down the road, where Ama and Agu made a fantastic lunch. Bud really enjoyed tortellini for the first time, so I made a mental note to add it to our list of meals.

The kids had a good time playing together, and I eventually extracted them a little before 2:00 so that Cousin C might take a nap. On the way home, we stopped by my office, where I picked up some equipment so I could do a little more work from home. The kids had fun drawing on the whiteboard in my office while I logged in and did a little bit of set up for the equipment before bringing it home.

The kids were really well behaved, and we stopped to get gas in the car as our final stop on the way home. Once we got home, we washed up, and the kids had a snack which included some of the blackberries we picked.

The kids and I settled in and watched the second half of Wall-E, and a couple of the specials to boot. After turning the TV off, the kids headed off to play with Lego for a little while as I got some work done on the computer.

We headed out to pick up some dinner a short time later, and then ate when we got home. Buster ate a pretty large meal, and Bud did a solid job as well. After dinner, Bud went back to playing with Lego, and Buster and I watched a little bit of TV before snack time.

Buster was reluctant to have a snack until I told him he could have some more blackberries. Bud joined for snack as well, and the kids were good about the bedtime routine. Buster was getting pretty tired, and fell asleep on his own a short time after the lights went out. Bud was up a little later, drifting off after some stories and videos.

The Return of Friend D

The kids were up pretty early this morning, around 7:30. I got them breakfast before 8:00, and then crawled back into bed for a few minutes before I got up. Nanny J arrived at the usual time, and I headed off for work.

Bud had a playdate with Friend D in the afternoon, which he was really excited about. Friend D has been travelling with his family for a while now, and Bud has been anxious to see him again. Apparently they had a great time playing together this afternoon.

After I got home, we said goodbye to Nanny J, and headed out to pick up some dinner. Both kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we put on Wall-E at Buster's request. We all watched a bit more than an hour of the movie before it was time for a snack and bed.

The kids were good about getting ready for bed, and we read stories and watched a couple of videos together in Bud's room. Then I tucked Bud in and sat with Buster for a bit while he fell asleep. Bud was asleep as well by the time I emerged from Buster's room.

Very, Very Tired

The kids were up around 8:00, and kept an eye on me as I got ready. M-lady was up and in a meeting until about 8:30, when she and Granddad B left for the airport. The kids and I said our goodbyes to both before they left. Nanny J arrived a short time later, and I headed off to work.

The kids had a good day. Bud had fun at TKD, and Buster managed to skip his nap again. They were just finishing up a snack when I got home, and we said goodbye to Nanny J.

We had a nice video chat with Grandma W for a bit, and both kids said Hello. Buster was anxious to play with the iPad, though, and commandeered it when we finished the call. I turned on the TV for Bud so he could play some Xbox before dinner.

Bud ate a solid dinner, but Buster deferred. After dinner, we watched a little bit of TV before snack time. At about 10 to 8:00, I discovered that Buster had passed out on the couch. He was really asleep, and didn't really wake up as I carried him upstairs, got him into his nighttime diaper and PJs, and got him settled into bed. He was just done.

Bud had a snack, and we were able to do a pretty normal bedtime routine for him. We turned the lights out a bit after 8:30, and he was asleep pretty quickly.

Daddy Car Day

Bud was up this morning around 8:00, and I got him breakfast a short time later. Buster was up by that time, too, but deferred on breakfast until M-lady could get it for him. At about 8:30, Granddad B and I headed out for our day, which was an exotic car tour we wee both looking forward to. M-lady stayed with the kids until Nanny J arrived.

Granddad B and got home shortly after 4:00, and discovered that the kids had gotten haircuts with Nanny J in the morning. Buster had apparently been concerned, but hadn't cried this time. He'd screamed the last time he got a haircut, so this was a big improvement. We were all very proud of him.

When M-lady arrived home, we all packed up and headed out to Red Robin for dinner. There was a little bit of a wait, but it wasn't too long. The kids were well behaved both for the wait and through dinner. They both ate well, and we headed home satisfied and with a balloon for Buster.

We played a few minutes of Rock Band before watching a little TV. Snack time came up quick after that, and the kids were getting ready for bed shorty after 8:00. I read a story and watched a few videos with Bud before we turned out the light at about 8:40. Bud was asleep before too long. Buster didn't nap again today, and consequently also fell asleep quickly.

Another Visitor

The morning was fairly straightforward, with Bud getting up shortly after 8:00, and Buster a few minutes later. I headed out for work around 8:30, and M-lady stayed with the kids until Nanny J arrived at 8:45.

Later in the morning, Granddad B arrived. He apparently had a good day hanging out with the kids. I saw the remnants of a straw Granddad B had apparently turned into a multi-tone whistle with creative use of a pocket knife. So it looks like they had a good time.

M-lady arrived home early to take Bud to his piano lesson, and I arrived home a short time later, a few minutes after 5:00. After dropping my stuff, we said goodbye to Nanny J. Buster was running around the obstacle course in the living room for a bit, and then joined me and Granddad B in the play room.

We all played Rock Band together for a little while, and Bud and M-lady arrived home before too long. Bud joined us for a bit before we got some dinner together for the family. Buster deferred at first, but ate a bit after the rest of us had finished up.

We had dinner a little late, and snack time followed quickly. We all had ice cream and strawberries for a snack, which everyone enjoyed. After snacking, we started the bedtime routine. I got Buster toothbrushed and into PJs, and we read a couple stories, played a game of Monopoly on the iPad, and watched a quick video before turning out the light at about 8:20. Buster didn't nap today, so he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Being Brave

Bud was up this morning a bit before 8:00, and M-lady got up to get him some breakfast. I got up a little after 8:00 to get myself dressed, and Buster was up a few minutes before Nanny J arrived at 8:45. M-lady and I both worked from home for a bit.

At about 10:00, M-lady and I packed up with Buster and headed out to a doctor's appointment for him. His last pediatrician appointment had turned up a heart murmur, and we were having it checked out by a cardiologist. The drive there was uneventful, and we were just in the waiting room long enough for Buster to do a quick survey of the available toys there.

They did a quick EKG for Buster, which entailed putting conductive stickers on him. Buster was really good about lying still, and the EKG was over pretty quickly. He didn't complain once as we took the stickers off him, which were pretty sticky and didn't come off very easily.

A few minutes later, Buster got set up for an echocardiogram, and again was quiet and still while the doctor took a look. His face scrunched up a bit during the procedure, but he responded that he was OK when asked. Afterwards, with a diagnosis of a benign functional murmur (a Still's Murmur) and a clean bill of health, Buster got to pick a sticker (for fun, not for EKG) to take home. He was happy as we loaded up in the car again, telling him how proud we were that he was so good at the doctor's office.

We dropped Buster off at home, and M-lady and I headed off for work. M-lady got home in time to relieve Nanny J in the evening. They played some games together, the kids had fun setting up a race obstacle course in the living room, and M-lady made dinner for the family.

I got home around 7:00, and found Bud practicing piano, taking breaks to run around the obstacle course. The kids were in good spirits, and I played with Buster for a little while as Bud finished his practice. After he was done, we all played a little bit of Rock Band together before having a snack and doing the bedtime routine.

The routine was a little late tonight, and Bud and I read stories and watched a few videos until we turned the light out around 9:15. Bud fell asleep pretty quickly.
