Snack Gambit

Buster was up once during the night, aroudn 3:30am. He was more than happy to head back to bed, but wanted me to stay with him. I sat until he fell asleep, which only took a couple of minutes.

Bud was up early this morning, shortly after 7:00. He came and woke me up a few minutes before 8:00, and then got himself dressed. We headed downstairs and got some breakfast around 8:15, and he was ready to go 10 minutes before he needed to be. Nanny J arrived around 8:30, woke Buster, and was getting him some breakfast as Bud and I headed out the door.

Bud is definitely enjoying sports camp, and has been looking forward to it in the mornings. Today they played soccer and basketball. Bud also had TKD today in the afternoon, which apparently went well.

I arrived home a bit before 5:00, and both kids were good about getting ready for swimming. As we drove over to the pool, Buster assured me that he was going to get in the water and earn a snack/treat for the drive home. However, he changed his mind when we arrived, and sat out as Bud headed off to his class.

Bud did great in his class, and Buster was well behaved, as I'd brought his iPhone along to entertain him in case he opted not to swim. At the end of class, Buster handed me the iPhone, and we headed over to meet Bud, who was getting out of the water. At that point, Buster requested to go in the water: I think he was angling for getting the snack. It was too late at that point, and Buster was a bit disappointed that his gambit failed.

We packed up and headed home, and Buster was upset upon reaching home again. He settled down in his room, while Bud and I watched a little bit of TV. Buster eventually came down and joined us, and we watched a science show about the search for life on Mars together.

The kids both ate really good dinners, and we watched a little bit more TV together before having a snack. The kids proceeded to both eat large quantities of fruit before bed. We headed upstairs, read stories, and turned out the lights around 8:30. Both kids fell asleep pretty quickly.

Snack Contention

Bud was up early this morning, and woke me around 7:30 to give me a birthday card, which was really nice. He had already got himself dressed. I got up a few minutes before 8:00, and Buster was up as I was getting dressed a few minutes later.

We had the chance to do a quick video chat with M-lady, which the kids liked a lot. We all look forward to having her home again this weekend.

I got Bud all set for sports camp, and we left Buster having breakfast with Nanny J at about 8:45. I was able to drop Bud off without any trouble. He was looking forward to playing street hockey today.

After a busy day at work, I got home around 4:45. Nanny J and I got the kids ready to go for swimming, and we rolled out the door around 5:00. It was a much more leisurely outing than yesterday, when I was running late. We arrived in plenty of time.

Buster again resisted getting in the water, and today I didn't make him go. I did let him know that he wouldn't get a snack afterward if he didn't go in the water, and he seemed OK with that. He bounced around me while we waited for Bud, who did a great job in his class again.

After Bud wrapped up his swim class, we dried him off and loaded into the car. Buster subsequently got upset when Bud got a snack and he didn't, which carried over all the way home and into the house. I got him undressed, and banished him to his room while I got Bud showered.

Buster's attitude had rectified itself before Bud's shower was done, and I got him into PJs. We all watched a little TV as I put the dish Nanny J had prepared today in the oven, and we were ready to eat before 7:00.

After dinner, Buster ran around a bit and I had Bud run through his piano pieces. We started snacktime at 7:45, and I discovered that Nanny J had made a cake for me during the day, which was really sweet of her. We each had a piece and found it delicious. The kids also had some fruit, and we headed upstairs for the bedtime routine around 8:15.

Bud picked up his room while I watched videos with Buster. Bud declined to join us for videos, and I tucked both kids into bed a bit after 8:30. Both kids fell asleep pretty quickly.

Thanks to everyone for the Birthday wishes I received today!

Swimming In The Rain

The morning has become routine this week, which works pretty well. I rolled out of bed around 8:00, rousted Bud a few minutes later, and Buster got up around 8:15. We were all having breakfast around 8:30, and Nanny J showed up a few minutes later. I took Bud to his sports camp around 8:45: the only non-routine part was that Bud was wearing a jacket, as it was threatening rain.

Bud only got drizzled on a tiny bit at the end of his camp today, so that wasn't an issue. The rain came down much harder in the afternoon. Bud had a good time at sports camp, where they played tee-ball and kickball, among other things.

The kids had a good afternoon, and apparently spent a good chunk of time playing with trains with Nanny J. Bud was really anxious to show me the new track they set up today when I got home.

I managed to get home at about 5:10, later than I would have liked due to traffic due to rain. Nanny J and I loaded up the kids quickly, and I took them off to swim class. The kids had sweatshirts, and it wasn't raining too hard, but it was a bit cooler than previous days (around the mid-60s), and the rain had scared off about half the kids.

Bud was good about jumping in the water, and Buster screamed again. However, after less than a minute of screaming, Buster was having a good time, and I saw him smiling and giggling and playing with the teacher.

Bud did a great job in his class as well, and looks like he's making progress with being comfortable in the water. He admitted that it was fun swimming in the rain, as I assured him it was. I look forward to swimming with the kids sometime this summer.

Getting out of the pool was less of a problem today, and we got dried off and back in the car without too much trouble. Buster didn't want to bathe when we got home, however, and threw a tantrum. I managed to get him cleaned off, and sent him to his room while I got Bud showered. Buster calmed down, apologized, and we all headed downstairs for dinner.

The kids ate pretty well, and we had a good time watching TV after dinner. Snack time came up pretty quickly, and bedtime after that. The kids were really good for bedtime, and we had fun reading stories together before turning out the lights around 8:30. Buster was asleep within about five minutes, and Bud a short time after that.

A Full Day

I rolled out of bed around 8:00, and rousted Bud a few minutes later. Bud got up and was dressed by about 8:30, when we headed downstairs to get some breakfast. Nanny J arrived around that time, and woke Buster up. Bud had a quick breakfast, and he and I headed off for his first day of sports camp.

I dropped him off at the park, and he immediately got started on kicking some soccer balls around. Nanny J picked him up around noon, and he apparently had a good time, playing soccer and flag football, among other things.

I caught up with the kids again at Bud's TKD class. He was receiving his senior yellow belt today, and I needed to be there for the ceremony. Buster didn't want to go home with Nanny J, but preferred to hang out and play with my iPhone.

The TKD class looked like a lot of fun. They did warm ups, we did the belt ceremony, and then they took a whole bunch of old belts and tied them into a long rope, which they had the kids play tug-o-war with. Everyone enjoyed the tug-o-war, including all the watching parents. Bud did a good job, and his team won 3 out of 5 pulls.

I took the kids home, and Nanny J got them a snack while I checked in to work. Around 5:00, we loaded up and headed off to swim class. Both kids were excited to try out their new goggles. Buster managed to fall over while we were waiting on the bleachers, and his head caused a spectacular clanging sound when it hit. He was pretty unfazed, though, although I think he'll develop a bit of a bruise by tomorrow.

When it was time to swim, Bud headed off without trouble, and Buster didn't want to go in. About five minutes after class started, a teacher pulled him in, and he cried for a minute or so before seeming to enjoy being floated around the pool a bit.

When class was over, it took a while to dry off and head for home. We immediately showered when we got home, and the kids were in PJs by about 6:00. They watched a little bit of TV while I got dinner ready.

The kids ate a good dinner, and they watched just a little bit more TV while I cleaned up the kitchen. Around 7:45 we started having a snack and the bedtime routine. The kids were very manageable through the bedtime routine tonight, which was nice. We read some stories together, watched a few videos, and I tucked them in around 8:30. Buster fell asleep quickly, before 9:00. Bud was still up, and I sat with him for a bit and chatted before I left him to do some work. He was asleep before 9:30. I'm surprised he lasted that long given the amount of physical activity he had today.

Enjoyable Sunday At Home

Buster wandered in around 8:00, and Bud came in a short time later. I rolled out of bed around 8:30, and hung out with the kids a little. Around 9:00 I started motivating to get them dressed and fed.

Babysitter G arrived around 10:00. Bud immediately engaged her, and Buster headed to his room. I packed up and headed out for a bike ride, to try and get at least a little bit of exercise this week. The kids apparently had a good time with Babysitter G.

I got home a little after 1:00 and got the report. Buster had come down to play before too long, and Bud let me know that Babysitter G was lots of fun. They had been playing Go Fish when I left, and apparently they had played games, watched some TV, and played outside as well. Both kids had a solid lunch.

We said goodbye to Babysitter G, and I got some lunch for myself. Both kids wanted snacks, so I provided for them as I got my food ready. After munching, I had a quick shower, and then the kids let me snooze for about 20 minutes. Bud played quietly in his room, and Buster sat next to me and played with the iPad.

When I got up, we loaded up in the car and headed to the grocery store. It probably wasn't entirely necessary, but we were a little low on sliced bread and fruit. Both kids were good at the store, and Bud helped gather some of the items.

When we got home, the kids wanted to play outside. Buster whacked Bud (accidentally) within a couple of minutes, and refused to apologize, so I dragged him inside. Bud came in a few minutes later. While Buster was sent to his room, Bud and I watched a little TV together.

When Buster composed himself and apologized to Bud, he joined us. We watched an episode of The Backyardigans, and then I got started on putting dinner together. We had French Toast, and the kids ate well.

After dinner, the kids pretty much entertained themselves playing with the railroad tracks for about an hour, right up to snack time. Both kids were good about quitting when it was time to snack, and we had a good snack and bedtime routine. I turned out the lights around 8:45, and Buster was asleep a bit after 9:00. Bud was up a bit later, and didn't drop off until about 9:45. Hopefully he won't have too much trouble getting up tomorrow for his new morning camp.

A New Experience

I had been puzzling over what to do with the kids today, and I think I came up with something we all had fun with.

Bud woke a little before 8:00, checked in on me, and then ran off again. Bud and Buster converged on the bedroom at about 8:30, but they were OK with me snoozing a bit and just played together in the room. Around 9:00 I got up, and they grabbed my iPad after I used it to check on my outing idea.

I got dressed and had breakfast while they were preoccupied with the iPad. I eventually extracted it, and got them moving towards getting dressed and getting breakfast. After Bud had finally eaten, around 10:30, we loaded up and headed to a nearby sporting goods store to get swim goggles for the kids. They were happy with their respective selections, and we headed out a short time later.

We had lunch at home, and while Bud ate a reasonably solid lunch, Buster mostly poked at his. When we got to a point where I was pretty sure he wasn't going to eat anymore, I loaded the kids up, packed my Camelbak and the camera, and we headed for Castle Rock State Park.

I was last there almost 20 years ago, and had a vague memory of some neat rock outcroppings. I figured the kids were old enough to enjoy a short hike, and they would have fun playing around the rocks. The drive up there took about 30 minutes, and they were very patient on the way up.

The parking lot was crowded when we got there, but we found a spot and walked to the trailhead. The kids had a good time hiking with me, and within about 20 minutes we'd made it up to Castle Rock itself. The kids really had a good time playing around the rocks. Bud was big enough to scramble up some of them, and Buster ran around and explored. I was able to lift Buster up over a few obstacles as well.

Both kids fell down on some of the steeper slopes around the rocks, but were fine with a quick brushing off. We eventually made our way around some other trails, and paused for a little while to have a snack. Bud shared my Camelbak with me, and I'd brought a waterbottle for Buster (since he had trouble with the Camelbak bite valve). We completed about a 1 mile look by the time we'd gotten back to the cars.

Buster fell asleep a few minutes before we got home, and then threw a tantrum when he woke as I was trying to take him inside. He calmed down pretty quickly, though, and joined Buster and I watching some TV. Unfortunately, we ended up watching a show documenting how Krisy Kreme donuts are made, and we had to plan a trip to get Krispy Kreme.

Both kids had a very solid dinner, and we loaded up immediately afterward to get donuts. The kids enjoyed seeing the machine (particularly since we'd just seen it detailed on TV), and we each had a donut in the store. Then we came home, where Buster had another meltdown as we headed inside.

I got Bud showered, and finally bathed Buster when he came around. The kids had a snack just a little bit late, and M-lady called as we were wrapping up snack time. After saying hello to M-lady, I got the kids into bed, and the lights turned out around 8:45. Both kids were asleep by about 9:15 or so.

Just The Boys

M-lady headed out for a week-long business trip plus a weekend in NYC this morning at about 4:30. Unfortunately, I was still working. I managed to get to bed around 5:30, and got up at 8:00 to motivate Bud. He was a little reluctant to get going, but I got him and Buster dressed and fed before Nanny J arrived at 8:45. I took Bud to his last day of Lego Camp.

I arrived home again around 4:30 in the afternoon, just in time to see Nanny J giving Buster a really quick bath. After he was cleaned up, I loaded both kids into the car and we headed to Bud's TKD belt test. Buster drifted off to sleep on the drive, and woke when I tried to get him out of the car.

We were just in time, and Bud headed in to join his test. I plopped Buster down on a bench, and gave him his iPhone and pair of headphones. Several other younger siblings wandered by and looked on jealously.

Bud did a great job in his test, and to my eye looked the most focused and prepared of all the yellow belts. His stances are particularly good for his age and skill level. I told him how proud I was of him when he finished up, and we loaded up and headed out.

We picked up dinner on the way home, and ate when we arrived. The evening was pretty mellow: we watched a little TV, then had a snack and a protracted bedtime routine. Getting both kids in bed was a bit tough, but we read some stories and watched a couple of videos all together. Bud was still a bit revved up from his test, but I managed to get all the lights out around 9:00. Both kids were finally asleep by 9:30 or so.

Big Boy Underwear

Bud was up just before 8:00 this morning, and Buster a few minutes later. I helped the kids get dressed, with the excitement being Buster wearing real underwear for the first time. He didn't seem super excited about it, but not particularly put out, either.

I took Bud to Lego camp when Nanny J arrived, and dropped him off without fuss. He apparently worked on building a gondola today, although he admits that his didn't work. He had TKD in the afternoon as well, and M-lady took the kids to swimming in the early evening.

Buster had to be bodily carried into the water again, unfortunately. He quieted down once he was in there, and enjoyed some games in the water. Bud was great, as ever.

I didn't get home until about 7:00, as they were wrapping up dinner. Bud did a big piano practice as I ate my dinner, and after he finished I played with him a Buster for a few minutes before snack time.

We had a snack together, and then I read stories and watched a few videos with Buster. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly once we turned the light out, a bit after 8:30.

All Wet

M-lady had an early call which she took from up, which started at about 7:00. Around 7:30, Buster came into the room, and I eventually convinced him to crawl into bed with me. Bud showed up around 20 minutes later, and we we all able to lay there quietly for about 5 seconds. Then the kids started playing tag in bed.

We got up a short time later, and worked on getting dressed and having some breakfast. Bud was ready to go around 8:45, and I took him to his Lego camp when Nanny J arrived. They apparently build castles and catapults today. I wish I could go to Lego camp.

M-lady took the kids to their swim class today. Bud was great again, as usual, and the instructors finally took Buster all the way into the water. He apparently screamed a bit at first, but eventually got used to it.

When I arrived home, the kids were playing on the lawn. Buster proudly informed me that he went in the water today, and assured me that he would go in again tomorrow. He apparently told M-lady that he had fun, too.

M-lady and I got the kids inside, and I bathed the chlorine off of them. They got into PJs, and we had time to sit down and watch a little bit of Bob the Builder on iPad before heading downstairs for dinner. The kids ate reasonably well.

After dinner, M-lady headed off to run a quick errand, and Bud practiced his piano. That took us right to snack time, and the kids enjoyed a lollipop each and some fruit. I ran the bedtime routine, and both kids were ready for bed and watching a video with me when M-lady arrived home. She read a story to Buster, and I watched a video with Bud before we turned out the light around 9:00. Bud fell asleep before too long.

The Next Step

M-lady had to leave for work early again, before 7:00. Bud got up around 8:00, and I helped get him ready for Lego camp. Buster was up around 8:30, and rather than hurry him up, I took Bud to Lego camp myself when Nanny J arrived.

I got home around 4:30, and found M-lady home as well. We packed the kids up together, and said goodbye to Nanny J as we all headed off to swim class together. Buster said he was excited to swim today, and immediately sat on the top step, the way we ended yesterday. The instructors were able to convince him to sit one more step lower, so his feet were actually submerged, but that's about as far as he got today. Bud, of course, was great in his class.

We packed up the kids again and headed home when they finished, and I got them bathed. Bud enjoyed soaking in the bath a bit while I watched a little bit of TV with Buster. We started on dinner around 6:30. The kids came to the table a little late, but both ate pretty well.

Snack time came up quickly, and the kids did a pretty good snack and bedtime routine. I read some stories with Buster, and then we watched a couple of videos. He's letting me lie down with him on his bed now, rather than on the couch as I have the past few months. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Monday, June 20, 2011

M-lady had to leave for work a little early this morning, around 7:45. Bud was up around 8:00, and got himself ready for Lego Camp. I encouraged him to wear shorts and a t-shirt, since it was going to be a hot day. Buster finally got up around 8:35, and I just had time to get him dressed when Nanny J arrived and we loaded the kids into her car so she could take Bud to camp.

I headed to work. The kids had a full day. Bud was at camp until noon, and then had TKD in the afternoon. I arrived home around 4:30, and got started on getting the kids ready to go to swim lessons.

Bud went last year, and earned his water safety certificate, which was great. It was really hot today, and I expected both kids to want to get in the pool. Bud was all set to pick up where he left off, and got right into the pool when we established which group he was in. Buster looked a little nervous, but went with his class of 4. A minute later he trotted back to me, though, unwilling to get in the water. I sat with him most of the class, and towards the end he was willing to sit at the edge of the pool and get the bottoms of his feet wet on the top step.

When the time was up, Bud got himself toweled off and we headed back to the car. The kids had snacks on the way home, and then we headed inside. Bud took a bath, and I got Buster out of his still-dry swimsuit. Buster assured me he would get in the water tomorrow.

The kids and I watched the first part of Disney's The Princess and the Frog, simply because it was available on Netflix and I wanted to watch something different. Both kids seemed to enjoy it, though. M-lady arrived home around 6:30 with sandals and swim shirts for the kids, which will help out tomorrow.

We had dinner before too long, and Bud did a solid piano practice after that. After piano, we had time to play a little bit of Xbox before snack and bed. Bud and I read some stories and watched an episode of The Clone Wars before turning out the light around 8:45. He fell asleep on his own before too long.

Enjoyable Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there, particularly to Agu and the two Granddad B's.

The family let me sleep in a bit this morning, which was nice. Bud only asked me when I was getting up a couple of times. I finally rolled out of bed near 10:00, and the kids happily brought me a card Bud made and a gift from the family. Buster was anxious to help me open the present.

I headed off to Home Depot a short time later, and both kids opted to go with me. We had a good time on the quick trip, and just picked up some lightbulbs. I replaced the burned out bulbs when we got home, and then we got started on lunch.

After a simple lunch, M-lady headed out to run errands with Buster. Bud stayed home with me, and I got to work on trying to fix (or ascertain the problem with) Buster's ceiling fan. I got the fan part working, but the lap is still not entirely functional. Bud helped me a bit, but spent the majority of the time playing with his Lego.

M-lady and Buster arrived home again later in the afternoon. M-lady reported that Buster was a trooper as they got through the errands. We spent the later afternoon hanging out, watching a little TV, playing some video games, and having video calls with the Grandparents. The kids were pretty good about wishing the granddads a happy Father's Day.

We got dinner together around 6:30, and everyone enjoyed waffles. After dinner I read some stories with Buster, and Bud practiced piano. After his practice, we played a little more Xbox before snack time and bed time.

I read a few stories and watched videos with Buster, and we turned the light out around 8:30. Buster fell asleep without too much trouble.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable and relaxing Father's Day.

Budding Mechanic

M-lady and I woke at 9:00, and wondered what happened to the kids. It turned out that Buster had slept in (and woke around the same time we did), and Bud had been playing with Lego quietly in his room, recreating a diorama of one of the scenes from the Clone Wars TV show. He was pretty proud of it.

M-lady loaded up the kids after they were dressed and fed, and they headed off to a park meeting with other dance families with kids. I got on my bike, did a ride and headed to the park to meet them there.

The kids were having a good time, and were chowing down on the snacks M-lady had brought when I arrived. Both kids wanted to share my Power Bar with me. I unfortunately wasn't able to play with the kids on the playground because I didn't have any appropriate shoes with me.

I helped get the kids back in the car, and helped brush off some of the playground sand. Buster had a whole dune's worth in his shoes. They picked up lunch on the way home, and I arrived before they did on my bike. We all had lunch together.

After lunch, I took Buster to the grocery store, where we did a big shop. M-lady and Bud attempted to go to the library, but were thwarted by a Celtic festival. There was apparently no place to park, so they came home again. When Buster and I arrived home, Buster played outside, and Bud helped me clean my bike. We cleaned the chain and drivetrain together, and he seemed to enjoy helping me.

We went inside a bit later, and camped in front of the TV for a little while. M-lady headed out to run some errands, and Buster fell asleep in front of the TV. Bud and I had the opportunity to play some Ninjago spinners, and were relaxing downstairs when M-lady arrived home again.

M-lady made dinner, and Buster woke around 6:00. I watched a little of a bike race with the boys while dinner was being prepared. We all ate together, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did a long piano practice, and then I got the kids int the shower to clean up. Snack and bedtime followed.

Buster threw a tantrum at the end of snack time, and took a while to calm down again. In the meantime, I read a story and watched a video with Bud, and we turned out the light a bit before 9:00. Buster ended up taking a long time to fall asleep, finally drifting off around 10:30 or so.

Hungry Kid

The morning was fairly straightforward, and M-lady and I headed off to work shortly after Nanny J arrived. The kids woke around 8:00, and we got them dressed and fed before we headed out.

The kids had a good day again. They went to the park, where they had a good time. It wasn't quite as hot today, so everyone was a bit more comfortable.

M-lady and I both arrived home right around 5:15. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, I ran out to pick up some dinner. The kids played with an iPad while I was out. When I got back, we all had some dinner. Buster delayed a few minutes, but ended up eating more than M-lady.

After dinner Bud had a solid piano practice, and bedtime rolled up pretty quickly. Bud was a little upset that he didn't get time to play a video game, but got over it. I read stories and watched a few videos with Buster, who fell asleep really quickly once we turned the light out.

Getting Back To Routine

The kids got up around 8:00 today, and M-lady and I rolled out of bed around the same time. Buster was very cheerful this morning, having slept pretty well last night. M-lady headed off for work a bit after 8:30, and I got the kids some breakfast around the time Nanny J arrived.

I headed to the office soon afterward, and the kids seemed to be looking forward to the day. Evidently Nanny J presented them with the option of going to the park or going to Target, and the kids elected to go to Target. Buster reported that they were just looking, not buying: apparently they had a good time looking at Lego sets. Bud also let me know that they got ice cream while they were there.

Bud had TKD in the afternoon, which apparently went pretty well. The kids had baths when they got home, and Buster apparently didn't want to put clothes on afterward. He had just gotten dressed when I got home around 5:00.

After getting settled, we said goodbye to Nanny J, and I watched some Bob the Builder with Buster on my computer before M-lady arrived home. I retired to bed for about half an hour, where the kids jumped on me for a bit. I eventually headed downstairs to get some dinner.

Bud ate pretty well, and Buster joined before too long. Bud did a great piano practice after dinner, while I played with Buster on the computer a little bit more. Both kids got a little grumpy when bedtime rolled around, and they both skipped a snack. I read stories and watched a video with Bud before turning out the light around 8:45. Both kids fell asleep pretty quickly.

Happy Birthday, Aunt RuggerMom!

Nanny J Is Back

The grandparents snuck out this morning for their flight before anyone else was up, around 6:30. We started rolling out of bed closer to 8:00. Buster came and joined M-lady and me in our bed, and was in much better spirits than yesterday, having slept well through the night. Bud was up around the same time, and quietly reading in his room.

M-lady headed for work shortly before Nanny J arrived, and I got some breakfast for the kids around the same time. Bud headed right back up to his room to read some more, and Buster was having his breakfast with Nanny J when I headed out to work. He seemed pretty happy to see her.

I got home around 5:00, and found Buster playing with Nanny J and Bud playing with Lego in his room. I had time to drop my things, and then we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids had a small snack with me, and then Buster and I watched a little bit of TV while Bud went back to playing Lego.

I had a work call at about 6:00, and M-lady arrived home around 6:15. We had a pretty mellow evening, and put some dinner together after I got off my call around 6:30. Bud had dinner with M-lady and me, but Buster deferred a little bit. He was ready for dinner as the rest of us were finishing up.

Buster ate reasonably well as Bud did a quick piano practice. They had a snack after that, and then came upstairs to get ready for bed. I chased Buster down and got him into PJs, and we read a couple stories and watched a video before turning out the light. Buster fell asleep very quickly, right around 9:00.

Mid-Week Dinner

Buster didn't sleep really well during the night, and was up a couple of times. I was up with him from about 2:00 to 2:30, and he apparently got up again around 4:00ish, and M-lady put him back to bed. Consequently, he slept in this morning, and was grumpy when he did get up.

He was a little upset when I left for work, and was apparently a lot upset when M-lady left, and went back to his room for a while. He eventually came out, and had a pretty good day with the grandparents.

Bud was good today as well. M-lady got home in time to take him to a piano lesson in the early evening, where he did a good job. I got home around 5:00, and we immediately loaded up and headed to Red Robin for dinner. M-lady and Bud met us there after they finished up the piano lesson, and we all had a nice dinner out together.

We headed home after dinner, where the grandparents started packing for their flight out tomorrow morning. M-lady and I played with the kids a bit before doing a pretty standard bedtime routine. The kids said their goodbyes to Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and the kids gave them very nice hugs.

I read a story and watched a video with Bud, and we turned the light out around 8:45. Bud and I chatted a little bit before he fell asleep a bit after 9:00. Buster apparently dropped off almost immediately. Both kids have slept well so far this evening.

The kids let us sleep in a little bit this morning, getting up around 8:00ish. Buster came in to say hello, and then hung out with us as we got ready. Bud spent some time in his room reading after he woke up.

I got Buster some breakfast, and then got on a call for work around 9:00, a few minutes after M-lady left for work. I headed to the office around 10:00, as Buster and the grandparents were settling in front of the TV to watch Mater's Tall Tales.

The kids went with the grandparents to Fresh Choice for lunch again today, and Buster apparently ate really well. He also had a large snack, eating just about all the fruit in the house.

Bud apparently did pretty well in TKD today, and received permission to test for his next belt at the end of the month. He's clearly doing pretty well. We'll have to drill his oral questions a little bit, but I don't doubt he'll do well in his test.

I got home around 5:00, and found Buster doing a puzzle with Grandma Nese, and Bud upstairs reading again. they both joined me to play on the computer for a little while, until we headed downstairs to start working on dinner. The kids had a bit of an altercation before dinner, and were cooling off in their rooms when M-lady arrived home.

We had a nice dinner, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did a quick but solid piano practice, and then I showered the kids before bedtime. We skipped snack tonight, and neither child protested. I read stories and watched a video with Buster before we turned out the light, and he fell asleep quickly, given the lack of nap.

Afternoon Treat

We managed to get out of bed a little later this morning. Buster came and jumped in bed with us a little after 8:00, and we could hear Bud playing with his Lego. I rolled out of bed before too long, and made pancakes for the kids, who both enjoyed breakfast.

After breakfast, M-lady headed off to work for a while. The kids and grandparents and I loaded up before too long and headed over to Home Depot, where the kids had a good time picking out gardening items with us. The grandparents picked up some tools and new flower for one of the empty pots on our driveway, and we came home and spent some time installing the new purchase. The kids had a good time playing outside, and found an area where they could 'dig' a bit in the front yard.

We had lunch a short time later. Bud ate well, but Buster deferred a bit. After lunch, Granddad B and I headed out for a bit, and Grandma Nese watched the kids. Buster ended up having some lunch, and the kids generally had a good time.

When Granddad B and I returned, we found Grandma Nese and the kids playing outside again. We all loaded up and went over to the local Baskin Robbins for some ice cream, which the kids really enjoyed. It was a nice treat, since the day got pretty hot.

After getting back, Granddad B and I made a quick run out to Fry's, again leaving the kids with Grandma Nese. Bud played a game of Monopoly with her, and Buster spent time playing with his iPhone. When we returned, Bud was finishing up some dinner. I got dinner for Buster, and M-lady arrived home before too long.

A short time after dinner, Granddad B and I again headed out to an evening event. M-lady and Grandma Nese took care of the kids in the evening, and put them to bed. The evening apparently went well, and the kids were asleep by the time Granddad B and I returned, around 10:00.

Back To The Hollow

We were able to sleep in a little bit this morning. M-lady was kind enough to handle the kids when they did get up, and I rolled out of bed a little after 9:00. It took a while to motivate the kids, but we eventually got everyone together and headed out to Happy Hollow.

We parked in the new parking lot for the first time, which was pretty empty. We met Uncle C, Aunt O, and Cousin C there, and we all walked across the bridges to the entrance together. The kids all ran off together, and got out of sight shortly after getting in the park entrance. After catching up, we missed Buster. I found him a few minutes later, waiting by a signpost for us to find him. He wasn't panicked at all, just waiting.

We had a good time at the park, and visited the lower zoo, the playground, and the upper zoo before taking our leave. We had a nice lunch after the lower zoo, and the kids had a great time running around the playground. Buster really had a good time on the big slides.

We rolled on home again around 2:00, and we picked up Slurpees on the way home. The kids and I finished our Slurpees outside, then headed in to rest a bit. Bud and M-lady went to the library before too long, and I played with Buster a bit.

Shortly after M-lady and Bud arrived home, we all packed up and headed out to dinner. The kids ate pretty well again, although Bud complained of a tummy ache. When we got home, Bud headed inside to rest, and I played outside with Buster for a bit. Buster finally headed in a bit after 7:30, when it was time to bathe.

I showered both kids, and we went straight from there to snack time. After snack, I read a story and watched a video with Bud. We turned out the light a little after 9:00, and he fell asleep on his own a bit later.

More Rock Band

The morning was fairly standard. The kids got up a little later (around 7:30ish), and M-lady and I headed out to work before too long. Grandma Nese took Bud to his piano lesson, since it was in the morning today. Bud apparently did pretty well, and Granddad B had a good time hanging out with Buster.

I got home around 5:00, and was able to hang out for a bit. I found Bud involved in a full-duration game of War with Granddad B, which they'd been playing for a while already. I was interested in playing Rock Band, so after dropping my things and getting settled, I fired up the game with Buster. Bud and Granddad B joined us when they wrapped up their game. We had fun playing until M-lady arrived home and we had some dinner.

The kids ate really well, and after dinner we went back to the game. Bud wanted to play cards some more, so I did a couple of quick rounds of War with him. We ended up playing more Rock Band until it was time to get ready for bed.

Buster had a little meltdown when we shut down the TV, but M-lady talked him down, and they got a snack together. I read a story with Bud, and then finished putting Buster to bed. He fell asleep reasonably quickly, having skipped his nap during the day.

Warming Weather

The kids slept in a little later today, getting up closer to 8:00. Bud got himself dressed, and I got the kids some breakfast around 8:30. M-lady headed in for work soon after.

I had a meeting at 9:00 I needed to present for, so I took the call from home. Buster sat next to me, and was a little disappointed that I couldn't play with him. We headed downstairs to find Grandma Nese and Granddad B when I finished up my call, and they got Buster ready for his soccer class a little after 10:00. I headed off to work.

The kids and grandparents had a good day. Buster had a good soccer class, and Bud went to TKD in the afternoon. Buster didn't get a nap, since he went along to TKD, but they did have some quiet time in the afternoon.

I got home around 5:00, and the kids immediately wanted to play outside. I changed into shorts, and headed out front with them to play some ball. The grandparents also came out, and puttered around the yard a bit. The kids enjoyed helping Grandma Nese remove dead flower petals from one of the bushes. We headed in after about an hour.

We watched TV for a bit until M-lady arrived home, and then had dinner. Buster ate his own thing, but both kids ate pretty well. After dinner, the kids played for a short time before Bud did his piano practice. Buster spent some time playing Kinectimals, which he's getting pretty good at manipulating.

We had snack and bedtime a bit late. I turned out Bud's light around 9:15, and he went to sleep soon after. Buster also fell asleep pretty quickly tonight, having not napped during the day.

First Day Of Summer

Bud was up during the night with a little bit of a cough, and M-lady and I decided to give him a preventative dose of Orapred. He slept well once his cough subsided after a bit.

Despite falling asleep a little later that usual last night, Buster was up at about 6:30. He snuggled up with M-lady for a bit, but both kids were up and ready to go by about 7:00. I got up and got Buster some breakfast around 7:30, and got breakfast for Bud a short time later.

M-lady headed off for work before too long, and I chatted with Grandma Nese and Granddad B for a bit to make sure they had everything to have a successful day with the kids. I headed off for work after helping Granddad B get the carseats into his car.

The kids had a fun day, it seems. They headed out to Fresh Choice for lunch, and spent some time at the park. Bud apparently showed off on the monkey bars, and got a couple of big blisters on his hands, which Granddad B attended to. Buster took an unintended nap in the afternoon for about 90 minutes, and both kids were playing happily when I arrived home around 5:00.

Grandma Nese prepared dinner while I had a quick call for work, and we were able to eat shortly after M-lady arrived home, around 6:30. The kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did a solid piano practice, and then I wrestled and stunted with the kids a bit in the living room while chatting with the rest of the family before we did snack time.

I did a fairly usual bedtime routine with Buster. He fell asleep a bit after 9:00, and hopefully will sleep a little longer tonight.

Last Day Of School

The morning was fairly routine. I got Bud up around 7:40, he complained a bit, and then got himself dressed and had some breakfast with Ama and Agu. Buster was up around 7:30, and hung out with M-lady and I as we got ourselves ready. I eventually got him some breakfast around 8:00. bud headed off to school with Agu a little bit later, and M-lady and I headed for work before too long.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Bud had his last day of kindergarten, and the school was apparently pretty busy at pick up time. Ama, Agu, and Buster walked over to pick him up, and Agu was able to get some pictures of Bud with his teacher and his friends.

Bud was a little sad to have school end, particularly since his Friend D is leaving for Korea for a month. I'm sure he'll be back before Bud realizes it, though, and Bud will have plenty of summer activities.

I got home around 5:00, and was able to play with the kids a bit. We ended up watching TV for a little while together while Ama and Agu packed up and made dinner. We all had a nice dinner together when M-lady arrived home, and afterward Bud did a quick piano practice. I played with the kids a bit in the living room while Ama and Agu loaded up, and we said goodbye and many thanks to them as they headed off to Aunt O and Uncle C's place for a couple of days.

The kids and I played a little bit of Xbox before snack time, and then did a fairly standard bedtime routine. While I was reading to Bud, Granddad B and Grandma Nese arrived. The kids were pretty excited to see them, and it took me a while to calm Bud down and get him back in bed. Fortunately, he doesn't have to get up for school tomorrow.

Up Late

The morning routine was fairly standard for the kids this morning. I got up a little after 7:30, and rolled Bud out of bed. As I was getting myself ready, I started feeling a little bad, and decided to work from home, however. The kids were able to complete the morning routine with the help of Ama and Agu, and Agu took Bud off to school.

M-lady headed for work a bit later, and Buster and Agu played in Buster's room for a good part of the morning. It sounded like they had a really good time. I believe Buster and both grandparents walked over to the school to pick up Bud, and they had a very pleasant walk back together.

I had lunch with the family when they got back, and then applied myself to work again. The kids seemed to spend an enjoyable afternoon. I tied Bud's belt for him before he headed off to TKD, and Buster took a nap while Bud was gone.

M-lady arrived home around 6:00, and we had a great dinner which had been prepared by Ama and Agu a short time later. The kids both ate well. Bud did a solid piano practice after dinner, and Buster had a good time playing. We did snack time a short time later, and both kids had a lot of fruit. Bedtime followed.

Buster and I did a standard bedtime routine, and turned the light out a bit after 8:30. Buster was good about staying in his bed quietly while I was in the room, but didn't fall asleep until around 10:00.

Big Google Earth

The kids were up this morning around 8:00ish, but were reasonably good about letting us snooze. They did both jump in bed with us around 8:30, and while they were having a good time with each other, it wasn't exactly restful. M-lady got up with them a short time later.

M-lady headed out to run an errand, and I got up a few minutes later as Buster called for help after successfully pooping on the potty. I got him cleaned up, and then got some breakfast for Bud. We had a nice video chat with Granddad B as well. By the time M-lady returned, were were pretty close to ready to go to a lunch party at a friends house.

Friends C and E, and their new daughter, A, were visiting the area, and the party was held to get everyone together and introduce A to the Bay Area folks. We all had a good time. I got to hold A for a while, and we had a good time chatting with the assembled friends. The hosts have a young son, about 18 months, and Buster was excited to see all the new toys. In particular, he took a liking to a large beach ball globe. The hosts were kind enough to give the globe to us, and we offered to bring some items the kids have outgrown in return.

The kids had fun running around outside at the party as well, and discovered a large banana slug. Buster accidentally touched it, and then insisted on washing his hands. The kids had pizza for lunch at the party, and both ate well.

We headed home a bit after 3:00, and Buster drifted off to sleep in the car. I was able to transfer him to his bed, where he napped for a couple hours. While he was napping, I headed out to get groceries.

When I got home, I got started on making dinner. The kids played around me as I got things together, and Ama and Agu arrived just before we got dinner on the table. They'd already eaten, but had a little bit (we had plenty prepared) and we all had a nice dinner together.

After dinner, I did a puzzle with Buster while I was on the phone, and Bud did a solid piano practice. Snack time came up pretty quickly, and we did a pretty standard bedtime routine after that.

Rainy Weekend in June

The kids seemed to sleep in a bit this morning, or at least they let M-lady and me sleep in a bit. M-lady actually slept in Buster's room for some of the morning, where Buster was apparently particularly snuggly, and lavished M-lady with hugs and very careful kisses (he's moved past the head-butt kiss).

I got out of bed around 9:00ish, and got some breakfast for the kids. We got ourselves together and got ready to go out, hitting the road shortly after 10:00 to head to Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C's place. It was raining pretty hard, which is unusual in June. We arrived before 11:00.

The kids had a good time playing together, and we were able to visit with Aunt O and Ama and Agu. We all had lunch together, and then played a bit more before heading for home.

At home, M-lady and I rested a bit as the kids played. I ended up falling asleep, but M-lady got up and played with the kids a bit before we all packed up and headed off to Bud's piano recital. It was in a small place, so we sat on the floor. Buster was generally kept entertained with his iPhone, which he requested before we left. Bud did a great job with his pieces, and the kids got cookies as we headed out after the longish recital.

We decided to head to Red Robin for dinner, and went straight there. There was a bit of a wait, but the kids were pretty good. Buster was getting a little fidgety before we left, but Bud ate a solid meal. We headed home after dinner, and the kids played a bit before we started shower time.

After getting clean, the kids got into PJs and had a few more minutes to play before snacktime. Snack and bedtime were pretty straightforward. I read stories with Buster, and we watched a video, and turned the light out a bit after 8:30. Since he hadn't napped today, he fell asleep pretty quickly.

Looking Forward to the Weekend

Bud was up before we were this morning, and was having breakfast with Ama and Agu by the time I went to wake him around 7:40. Buster woke a bit later, as M-lady and I were getting ready. Agu took Bud to school, and Buster hung out with M-lady and me until M-lady headed off to work and I took a call from home. Buster was a little disappointed that I couldn't play with him, but eventually headed downstairs with Ama to get some breakfast.

The kids seem to have a good day. M-lady arrived home in time to take Bud to his piano lesson in the late afternoon, which apparently went pretty well. I got home around 5:00, and played with Buster a little bit as Ama and Agu prepared dinner. We all had dinner together when M-lady and Bud arrived home.

After dinner, I played Xbox with the kids, and Ama and Agu headed over to Aunt O's for the weekend. A little before 8:00, Bud did a quick piano practice, and Buster threw a bit of a fit when we turned off the TV. I got him settled down and into PJs, and we joined Bud downstairs to get a snack.

The kids had a quick snack, and we did a fairly standard bedtime routine. I enjoyed reading to Bud, and we watched an episode of Clone Wars before bed. We've been watching that show (on DVD) for the past few weeks at bedtime, since Bud is concerned that it might scare Buster. We usually watch about half an episode, but tonight we started early enough, and it's not a school night, so we watched a whole one. We're just past halfway through season one now, and Bud's really enjoying the show.

Drumming For Real

Bud was up a bit before 7:30 this morning, and was reading happily in his room when M-lady and I got up. He had a bit of a stuffy nose this morning, but was fine later in the day. He did a pretty standard morning routine, and Agu took him off to school around 8:15.

Granddad B arrived at about 8:00, and after Buster got up, got dressed, and had breakfast, Buster sat down with Granddad B to play with him and his iPad. They started by looking at planets on StarWalk, and Granddad B was very impressed with Buster's ability to manipulate the iPad, as well as his knowledge of the planets.

Agu took Buster off to his soccer class at about 10:00, and Granddad B and I headed out shortly after that. Granddad B headed to the airport to head back home, and I headed off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Bud had fun at school, where they started watching Finding Nemo. Bud also had TKD in the afternoon, and Buster refused to take a nap.

I got home a little late, after 6:00, and the kids were happily watching TV with Ama and Agu. M-lady arrived home a few minutes after I did, and we all had a great dinner prepared by Ama and Agu. Both kids ate well.

After dinner, I played a little bit of Lego Rock Band with Buster watching, while Bud did his piano practice. When Bud wrapped up, he joined us for the game.

We set up, and Buster wanted to play drums. I went ahead and connected his drums for the first time, and he ran on super easy. He actually did a reasonably good job, hitting the beat fairly often. It was fun for us all to play together.

That took us right to snack and bed time. The kids had some fruit, and then I wrangled Buster into his PJs. We read a story, played a game on the iPad, watched a video, and turned out the light around 8:30. Buster fell asleep really quickly, since he hadn't napped today.

Convertible Spin

Buster was up a little early this morning, but not as early as yesterday. Ama and Agu were already up, so Buster headed downstairs to get some breakfast with them.

I rolled Bud out of bed a little after 7:30, and he was pretty good about getting ready for school. At about 8:15, I took him to school with Agu, so he could see how to get there and do a drop off, which will be very helpful over the next week. Bud was a little excited heading to school, since he had his end-of-the-year field trip with his class today to Build-a-Bear.

I was out most of the day with Granddad B. We got home a bit after 4:00, and found the kids having built a new fort downstairs. Bud was playing Chinese Chess with Agu, and having a good time. Buster was napping. Bud showed us his new bear as well, which he had named 'Bengal'.

The kids had a bath when Buster woke, and shortly afterward Bud came outside to look at the rental car that Granddad B and I had been driving during the day. It was a convertible, so I took Bud for a quick run around the block with the top down. He thought that was pretty cool. He also liked watching the hard top fold up and extend again, likening it to a Transformer.

We all had a wonderful dinner prepared by Ama and Agu, and the kids ate really well. After dinner, Bud put in a quick piano practice while everyone else pitched in to pick up the living room and play room. That took us right up to snack and bed time.

Granddad B headed off to the hotel, and I got started on the bedtime routine with Bud, who skipped a snack tonight. We read a couple stories, watched a video, and turned out the light around 8:40. He was asleep a bit after 9:00.

Buster took longer to fall asleep, since he had a 3 hour nap in the afternoon. M-lady finally got him to drop off around 9:30ish.
