The Hobbit Revisited

Buster was up at 6:00 this morning, which was actually good since M-lady slept through her alarm for her early meeting. M-lady got up and got Buster dressed, and he popped in and out of her meeting this morning.

Bud woke around 6:45, and got himself dressed and then played and read stories for a bit. I got Bud some breakfast around 7:15, and found Buster already having a bowl of cereal, presumably supplied by M-lady. Since the kids were up and going so early, there was no problem getting Bud out the door for school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home just before 5:00, and Buster was protesting taking a bath (which is a little unusual). Nanny J got both the kids cleaned up, though, and I got them a snack as we said goodbye to her.

We played a little bit of Xbox together, and watched a little TV before M-lady and Bud got started on a piano practice. Bud did a great job, and played just about all his pieces well. I got some dinner together while that was happening, and we ate a short time later.

Both kids ate a solid dinner, although Buster ate more than either M-lady or Bud. After dinner, Bud finished up a couple pages of homework, and it was straight to getting ready for bed.

Bud was a little upset that the evening ended early than he would have liked, but I offered to read to him from The Hobbit before bed. He'd been asking about riddles, and Riddles in the Dark in particular, the day before, and he was excited to go back to the book. He opted to start at the beginning, so we read about half of the first chapter before turning out the light.

Party Prep

The kids were up fairly early, but I was able to sleep in a little bit, thanks to M-lady. I did get up to get Bud some breakfast around 8:00, but was able to get back into bed and snooze for a bit.

I got up around 9:00, and proceeded to get myself ready for a bike ride. The kids spent time hanging out with M-lady during the morning, and apparently had a good time. I got back around 11:00, and took a shower and got started on making lunch for myself and the kids.

M-lady went to a tea party this afternoon, so I watched the kids. After lunch, we headed out to run some errands, in particular picking up things for Bud's birthday party next week. We headed to Toys 'R Us first.

The kids were very well behaved, although they were a little antsy while I looked over things we could play with outside at the party. Bud was anxious to look at the Lego, and Buster just wanted to wander on. We had a good trip, though, and came out with some items which should be enjoyed at the party next weekend.

From there we headed off to Target, where we picked up a couple more items. Buster had fun riding in the cart, and we were able to pick up a few more useful items before the kids started getting antsy again. We headed out, and decided on a suitable reward treat for the kids behaving so well. They opted for Slurpees over PinkBerry.

We headed home with the Slurpees, and snacked a bit when we got home. We watched a little TV, including the second half of the Cirque Du Soleil show Quidam, which Bud really liked. After TV I tried to run the kids around in the living room for a bit, and we played some tag.

That lasted for about 10 minutes before the kids got into a little tussle, and I had to send them both to their rooms. Bud eventually apologized to Buster and came out of his room, but Buster took a bit longer to apologize. He eventually did as well, and we all played on the computer for a little while.

M-lady arrived home a bit after 5:00, and we packed up and headed out to Red Robin for dinner. The service was good and fast, and the kids ate really well, and we had a good dinner. We picked up a couple of balloons on the way out, which the kids played with when we arrived home.

I showered the kids a short time later, and then it was about time for a snack and getting ready for bed. Buster and I read some stories together, and watched a couple of videos before turning out the light. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly, since he had missed his nap again today.

All Tuckered Out

The kids slept in reasonably well this morning, and we all got up around 8:00. Buster actually slept in a bit later, since he didn't fall asleep until nearly 10:00 last night. Bud got himself dressed, M-lady got Buster dressed, and we headed downstairs for breakfast.

I made pancakes per request for breakfast, and everyone ate well. After breakfast, Aunt O and Cousin C came over to play. We played Xbox with them for a bit, showing them Kinectimals and Dance Central. The kids then had a good time tearing around the house for a bit.

Our visitors left around lunch time, and we fed the kids. Bud ate reasonably well, while Buster just had some fruit. After lunch, M-lady headed out to run some errands, and I played with the kids a bit. We had nice video chats with both of my sets of parents, with the kids participating a bit. After the video chats, we watched a little TV, and played more Xbox.

It ended up being pretty cold outside today, with a high just above 50, so we mostly stayed inside. After M-lady got home, I did take the kids out for a bit. They managed to play for about 20 minutes before squabbling and having meltdowns, so we came back inside. We played on the computers for a short time before I headed out to pick up some dinner.

The kids chowed on sushi for dinner, which we ate a little early. After dinner I played with Buster a bit while Bud worked on piano with M-lady. He had a good practice, and afterward we all played Rock Band together. Around 7:30 or so Buster fell asleep sitting on the couch while we played, clearly a bit tired out. M-lady got him into PJs and tucked him into bed while I got a snack for Bud and we did a more standard bedtime routine.

Restless

M-lady had to leave for work shortly after 7:00, before either child woke up. The kids let me sleep until nearly 8:00, when we all got up and got dressed. The kids were finishing up breakfast when Nanny J arrived, and I headed off to work in short order.

Bud had a play date with Friend D in the afternoon, which apparently went very well. They had a good time playing with Legos together.

When I arrived home around 5:00, M-lady was already home. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and then I watched the Disney Winnie-the-Pooh movie with the kids while M-lady took a bit of a nap. We played a couple of songs of Rock Band before M-lady joined us again and we had some dinner.

The kids ate a solid dinner. Afterward, Bud practiced his piano with M-lady while Buster and I played a watched a smidge of TV. We had time after Bud's piano practice for one more Rock Band song before starting on the snack time and bed time routines.

Buster didn't stay down after I put him to bed, and kept getting up and checking things out. I finally sat with him until he fell asleep, which didn't happen until nearly 10:00.

Time Limit

Buster crawled into bed with us around 6:45, and I put him back in his room, pointing out the clock and how he had to wait for the 6 to turn into a 7. He seemed to get it, and came back shortly after 7:00.

M-lady had an early meeting, and took off around 7:30. I got Buster dressed, checked on Bud, and then got breakfast for the kids a bit later. Buster was having his second bowl of cereal when Nanny J arrived around 8:45, and I headed out for the day.

I arrived home around 5:00, and found the kids playing happily with Nanny J. They'd made a trip out to CostCo during the day, and picked up a lot of bagels. Bud had apparently campaigned for extra cinnamon-raisin bagels.

We said goodbye to Nanny J, and played with HotWheels cars for a while before watching a little TV and playing some Rock Band. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we called the game to get some dinner.

Bud again ate a ton at dinner: he really liked the tofu and shrimp dish Nanny J prepared earlier in the week. Buster ate reasonably well, too. After dinner the kids played with Play-Doh for a while before we watched a little more TV and started snack time.

The kids were good about getting ready for bed, and I read some stories with Bud before we turned out the light. Buster apparently got up later in the evening once, but let M-lady escort him back to bed without issue.

Trying Stunting Again

Buster crawled into bed with us around 6:00. I expected M-lady to put him back to bed, since he crawled over her to get into bed. Apparently, she didn't wake up.

Bud got up sometime after 7:00, and we all rousted ourselves after that. I got some breakfast for the kids before Nanny J arrived, and then headed off to work shortly after she came.

Bud had a play date with one of his classmates today, who lives within walking distance. They usually walk home from school together, apparently. They had a good time playing together.

I got home around 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids and I read stories together for a little while, and then played some Rock Band together until M-lady arrived home. We put some dinner together, which the kids ate pretty well.

The kids played in the livingroom/gym for a bit while I chatted with Grandma Wendy, and then we all played together for a few minutes before snack time. I did some stunt practice with Bud, who's started to get more confident. Snack time was straightforward, and we got the kids into PJs without trouble.

I read some stories to Buster, and we turned out the light shortly after 8:00. Buster took a little while to fall asleep, but eventually dropped off.

Successful Breakfast Made

Bud woke up this morning around 7:30, again a bit earlier than M-lady or I was up. He brought up that he was hungry, and we let him know he could go try and make a waffle for himself. He did it! And we got to sleep for another half-hour or so.

Bud got a Lego set that had been held back since Christmas, and that kept him busy for a fair bit of the morning. I headed out shortly after Nanny J arrived, and the kids were just opening up the set and taking a look at the pieces.

M-lady had to work late today, so I got home around 5:00. Bud had a piano lesson at 5:30, so we said goodbye to Nanny J and I packed up both kids to take them to the lesson. Bud again did a great job, and Buster was really good. I read a few books with Buster, and then gave him his iPhone for the last part of the lesson. He was perfectly content.

We headed home after the lesson. The kids both had meltdowns as they took off their shoes, which was a little annoying. After they recovered, we watched a little bit of Mater's Tall Tales before getting started on the dinner that Nanny J prepared for us.

Bud ate a huge amount, but Buster mostly nibbled. We wrapped up dinner and played a little bit of Rock Band before doing the snack and bedtime routine. The kids were good about getting ready for bed, and we were reading stories together when M-lady arrived home. She put Buster to bed, and I read a bit more with Bud before we turned out the lights.

First Day Of Winter Break

Bud doesn't have school this week ('Winter Break'), so there wasn't any pressure to roll him out of bed this morning. M-lady was up early for a meeting, and Buster joined her after a bit, a little groggy. Bud apparently got up on his own and started reading books. I rolled out of bed shortly after 8:00 and started getting ready for work.

Nanny J arrived and got some breakfast for the kids. M-lady and I took off shortly after that and headed off to work. The kids seem to have had a good day, although they didn't go out to the park because "it was too cloudy".

They did work on some crafts projects, and Bud did a great job with the little plastic beads that can be fused together in shapes and patterns. Nanny J showed us his work when M-lady and I arrived home just after 5:00.

M-lady took a little nap, and I played with the boys for a bit. We played with Bud's Leapster, then watched a little TV and played a few songs of Lego Rock Band before getting started on dinner.

Bud helped prepare dinner this evening. He made toast with his toaster. He was very proud that he could help contribute. The kids ate well, and after dinner Bud practiced piano with M-lady while I read some stories with Buster.

The whole family played a little bit of Rock Band together before snack time. The kids ate a quick snack, and we did the bedtime routine. Buster was reluctant to get his diaper changed and get into PJs, and I ended up running around after him a bit. I finally wrangled him into PJs, and we read a few stories before turning out the light.

Buster didn't fall asleep immediately, and I eventually left him in bed around 9:00. He seems to have fallen asleep soon after I left.

Catching Up

I started the day in Tahoe. M-lady woke with the kids, and they seem to have had a good day. The big event for the day was a birthday party held for one of Bud's classmates at Pump It Up, a play area filled with giant inflatable play structures.

Bud had a great time, and Buster did a good job of navigating the mostly older-child filled arena. They had a good time, and came away with some nice party favors. Buster was particularly efficient in getting a balloon and party favors for himself.

They had a nap attempt in the afternoon in which Buster didn't end up napping, and Bud spent time re-reading The Boxcar Children. The kids and M-lady seemed to be having a good time when I arrived home around 4:00pm.

We chatted and caught up for a bit, and I unloaded my things from the car and showed the family the photos and movies I'd taken from the trip. After I'd settled in, M-lady ran out to run a quick errand, and I played some Lego Rock Band with the kids. Buster had been modeling the opening video of the game (where the characters play in a band on the top of a moving truck) and singing the opening song, so I figured he would want to play. I was right.

We had a great time playing, and then watched a little bit of TV before M-lady arrived home with dinner. The kids ate pretty well, and then we did a more usual bedtime routine. I showered with the kids, and then Bud did his piano practice with M-lady after getting into PJs.

The kids each had a cupcake for snack (M-lady has been working on cupcake designs for Bud's birthday), and we headed towards bed. I read a few stories to Bud before we turned the lights out.

I'm happy to be home!

A Piano Lesson

The morning was fairly standard. It rained all day, though. M-lady took Bud to school, and I headed in to work after playing with Buster until Nanny J arrived.

I came home early after running some errands, and took Bud to his piano lesson. He did a great job, although his left hand was a bit sore from the exercises they did. I was very impressed with his focus through the half-hour lesson, though.

M-lady and I were going out to a show in the evening, and M-lady had a meet and greet with the stars beforehand that she went to directly from work. Consequently, Bud and I weren't able to pick up food on the way home like he had hoped, since Nanny J and Buster were waiting for us.

I got some dinner for the kids after Nanny J took her leave, and they were just finishing eating when Babysitter G arrived. Buster seemed a little nervous, but not overly so. I put on a Backyardigans for them, and Buster was just poking his head in to watch when I headed out to the show to meet M-lady.

The kids had a good evening, and things went smoothly for Babysitter G. After we arrived home, I packed up, and took off for Tahoe around midnight. M-lady was kind enough to agree to watch the kids for the weekend while I go try out my new knee on the slopes.

Another Enjoyable Evening

Buster crawled into bed with us around 7:00, which was just within our threshold of letting him stay. He was well behaved, though, and mostly lay still while we caught the final half hour of sleep.

It took a little effort to roll Bud out of bed, who's been suffering some very mild cold-like symptoms in the morning (slightly runny nose, a little coughing, etc.). He doesn't exhibit the symptoms after he's going, though, so hopefully he'll just glide through this one. He was pretty good about getting ready for school and having some breakfast once I rousted him out of bed.

I took Bud to school in the rain, and then came home. Nanny J arrived a few minutes later, and M-lady and I took her car to work (since mine was still in the shop).

The kids seem to have had a good day. M-lady dropped me off at the car dealership on the way home, and continued home to find the kids and relieve Nanny J. They apparently had a good time while I picked up my car and ran an errand before getting home around 5:30. I found them running and snuggling in the living room.

I settled in for a few minutes, and then played with the kids for a bit. We eventually decided to play some Lego Rock Band, which we all enjoyed. We wrapped up around 6:45 and got started on putting dinner together.

The kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud did his homework and practiced piano while I played with Buster a bit. Snack time came up quickly.

Bud was a little disappointed we didn't have time to play with the new MegaBloks aircraft carrier, so I let him play with it for a few minutes before we started the bedtime routine. He was satisfied, and I expect plans on getting up early tomorrow to play with it some more before school.

I put Buster to bed, and we had fun reading stories and watching a few videos before turning out the light. Buster took a while to fall asleep, but seemed tired and was good about staying in bed until he drifted off around 9:00.

Mid-Week Outing

The kids slept through the night last night. I got up around 7:30, and rolled Bud out of bed. Buster woke a short time later. Bud was pretty good about getting ready for school, and was excited to try making Eggos for himself for breakfast again. Tomorrow I think we'll see if he can do it all by himself.

M-lady took Bud to school, and I played with Buster until Nanny J arrived. I worked from home today, as I had to take my car into the shop. Bud was a little surprised to find me at home at lunchtime. The kids were generally good about letting me work, although Bud wandered in a couple of times.

The kids seem to have had a good day, although they were mostly cooped up inside due to the rain. M-lady arrived home shortly after 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J and all loaded up into M-lady's car. We headed off to visit Friends R and T for dinner, chatting on the drive. Towards the end of the drive, the car was pelted with some light hail, which was pretty loud and got the kids attention.

We had a great dinner with R and T. The kids were really well behaved, and enjoyed exploring the house a little bit and reading books until dinner was ready. They both ate really well. Buster largely ate food we brought along, but Buster ate the wonderful dinner T prepared. After dinner the kids enjoyed playing with iPhones before we started packing up.

R offered Bud a MegaBloks aircraft carrier model which his children had played with as younger kids. It's enormous, and Bud was pretty excited about receiving it. He said lots of thank yous.

The kids watched videos on their iPhones all the way home, but were pretty good about getting ready for bed on arrival. It was fairly late, so we hustled them into bed. Bud and I turned out the light in his room shortly after 9:00, and he was asleep pretty quickly.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Bedtime Hijinx

Buster crawled into bed with us twice last night. The first time, neither M-lady or I noticed when he crawled in. Later, we found him asleep between us, and M-lady put him back in his bed. He came in again later in the morning, around 6:30, and more or less jumped up and down on us as we tried to get a last hour of sleep.

The morning routine was fairly standard. Bud tried out his toaster again on a waffle, and I think we've got the settings all figured out for him now. Bud was ready to go to school in time, and I dropped him off without incident while Buster hung out with M-lady until Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Nanny J took them for haircuts in the afternoon, so they were looking much more aerodynamic when I got home at 5:00. Buster let me know that they received lollipops after their haircuts, and that he didn't cry. They apparently also got some little ceramic statues which they colored in the afternoon as well.

After we'd said goodbye to Nanny J, the kids and I ran around the living room for a bit before watching a little TV and playing Xbox. M-lady and I got some dinner together, and they ate without the kids as they opted out of the first pass at dinner.

I had a nice chat with Grandma W, and she had the opportunity to see the kids dashing by the camera a couple of times. She did also get to hear some of Bud's piano practice, which she enjoyed. Bud worked on piano with M-lady before snack time, when the kids ate dinner.

Bud finished up a couple of homework pages as well, and we started the bedtime routine. I got Buster into his PJs, and we had fun reading stories and watching a couple of videos. Buster asked me not to stay with him when I turned the light out, so I tucked him in and left the room.

About five minutes later, Buster was up and running around, giggling. I shepherded him back to bed, and he was up again after five minutes. So I sat with him in his room for about half an hour before I snuck out. A few minutes later, he was running around giggling again. I sat with him again until I was sure he was asleep, around 9:30. Hopefully he'll stay put a little bit more for the rest of the night.

Valentine's Loot

Buster woke once during the night, around 4:00, but stayed in bed once I got him back there. The kids were still asleep when I got up around 7:30, and I rolled Bud out of bed. He wasn't too hard to get up, and read a story to himself before getting dressed and getting some breakfast.

It was a bit rainy this morning, so we put on heavier coats before I took Bud to school. Bud was having a Valentine's Day party at school, so we'd sent him off with a package of cookies to share. I noticed most of the other kids had brought goodies as well.

Bud apparently had a good time at school. He reported that he ate two cookies, and lots of candy. He didn't eat his cupcake, since he was starting to feel ill. He also came home with a bunch of little toys and playthings as well.

I got home around 5:00, and both kids were anxious to play football with me. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, we ran around with the football a bit in the living room. Eventually we headed to watch a little TV and play Xbox before getting started on dinner. Bud practiced piano with M-lady while I got dinner on the table.

Bud started getting a little grumpy after dinner time, as we were getting ready to exchange valentines. He managed to hold it together, though, and gave the valentines we made yesterday to M-lady, who liked them quite a bit.

That led us to snack time and bedtime. I read some stories with Bud, and we turned out the light as 8:30 approached. Buster was up and about a couple times shortly after, and I escorted him back to bed twice. He finally dropped off around 9:00.

Toaster Strategy

The kids slept in this morning until nearly 8:30, which was nice. That is, Buster slept in, and Bud got up and read books to himself. So M-lady and I got to sleep in a little bit. I got up a short time later, and got breakfast for the kids.

M-lady headed off to ballet class, and I got the kids to work on making valentines for her while she was out. I made a card as well, and we all had a good time working together and sharing resources. After the cards were wrapped up, we watched about twenty minutes of TV before heading outside to play for a bit.

At lunchtime, we packed up and headed out to Jamba Juice to pick up smoothies. Buster still doesn't like the place because it's too loud, and since he doesn't like the place he covers his eyes. Which of course doesn't do any good against the noise. Bud covers his ears, though. Both kids are willing to tolerate the place to get smoothies, though.

Buster had almost finished his smoothie by the time we got home, and was coughing a bit from the cold. M-lady had arrived home as well, so we all had smoothies together for lunch. Afterward, I snoozed on the couch in the playroom as the kids played around me.

Eventually I got up and we headed to the mall. M-lady and I were shopping for Valentine's Day gifts, and we decided to get new bed pillows for each other. After picking out pillows, we got a small toaster for Bud.

The theory is (as practiced successfully by a friend) that Bud is old enough to operate a toaster to make Eggos. He can make waffles for himself and Buster, and potentially leave M-lady and I to sleep for an extra hour on the weekends. We'll see how it goes.

We came home after getting the toaster, and the kids played outside for a bit. We had a video call outside on the iPhone with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, which the kids only slightly participated in. We headed inside a short time later to have some dinner.

After dinner we played a couple of songs of Lego Rock Band and then Bud got started on his piano practice. I headed out to a friend's gathering around that time, and M-lady finished up the evening with the boys, getting them their snack and putting them to bed.

Performing

Buster woke M-lady this morning around 6:00. M-lady took him back to his bed, where they both lay down for a while. But Buster apparently spent the next hour climbing all over M-lady, with unintentional little pointy elbows to the ribs.

M-lady came back to our bed around 7:00. Both kids joined us for a while, and there was a fair amount of squirming. I read a couple stories to the kids in an attempt to chill them out a little bit. The eventually got up and ran around a bit before M-lady got them some breakfast around 8:00.

M-lady took the kids to the park for a playdate while I went out for a bike ride. The play date apparently went well, with Bud playing with Friend J, and Buster learning to climb different pieces of playground equipment. Buster came home with lots of sand in his shoes, and I found a fair amount of sand in Bud's hair.

The kids had finished up lunch at home by the time I got back around 1:00. I had some lunch and cleaned up while Bud ran through his piano pieces. We loaded up a little after 2:00, and went to Bud's piano recital.

It was a fairly short recital, and Bud did really well. Buster spent most of the time sitting in my lap, playing with my iPhone. He was pretty good about staying quiet through the proceedings, though.

After the recital, we headed over to the library. Bud ran around outside for a bit while I watched, and M-lady and Buster headed inside to return the books and select some new ones. Bud and I headed in just in time to help with the check out process.

We headed back home, where we had a snack and Bud sat down with his books. I spent some time fixing the garage door opener, which had broken a wire in the morning which prevented the door from being lowered. I wrapped up in time for us to load up and head out to dinner.

Bud had a couple of sliders for dinner, which was new for him. He seemed to like them quite a bit. Buster didn't eat much of anything, and had a bit of a meltdown after dinner. I took him back to the car while M-lady took Bud to get an Orange Julius as a treat for doing so well at his recital.

Buster calmed down a bit on the way home, and I read stories with the boys for a few minutes before we took a shower. I got them cleaned up, and we had time for a snack before starting the bedtime routine. Buster just had a cheese stick for a snack, so really didn't eat much at all in the evening. I read him a few stories before we turned out the light, and he passed out almost immediately.

Much More Giggly

I got up with the kids a bit before 7:30 this morning, got them dressed, we started on breakfast while M-lady was sending some email. I had a presentation to give starting at 8:00, so M-lady did the rest of the morning with the kids while I was on the phone. She took Buster along to drop off Bud at school. I headed for work a little after 9:00, when my meeting was done.

I got home around 5:00. The kids were running around, and M-lady had not yet arrived home to take Bud to his piano lesson. Bud had a minor meltdown as I tried to get him ready for piano for unknown reasons: I think he was having a good time running around. He was recovered by M-lady arrived, but didn't quite have his shoes on yet. He headed off for piano with M-lady in a good mood, though.

Buster was in a better mood this evening than yesterday. I did puzzles with him, and we watched a little bit of TV before M-lady arrived home with Bud, bringing dinner with them.

The kids ate pretty well, and then played together loudly as M-lady and I started getting ready for a dance performance at a ball this evening. After we were mostly dressed, we got the kids a quick snack and changed into PJs.

Babysitter G arrived around bedtime. Buster, who had accepted warnings of her arrival with nonchalance during the evening, cried melodramatically and went straight to bed (with a quick stop to brush his teeth). I read him a quick story and he put himself to sleep. Bud was good, and enjoyed reading a few stories with Babysitter G before turning out the light. Both kids were sleeping solidly when M-lady and I arrived home.

Grumpy Evening

The morning was fairly straightforward. Buster stayed in his bed, only waking once, and M-lady was able to tuck him back in quickly. I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:30, and M-lady got Buster dressed a short time later. The kids ate solid breakfasts, and I took Bud to school while M-lady was on a meeting call with Buster on her lap.

I got home around 5:00, and after settling in we said goodbye to Nanny J. I played with the kids for a little while, and then we settled in to watch a little bit of TV. Buster requested to watch a Little Einsteins, which we haven't watched in a while.

Bud played some Xbox, but started getting frustrated after a bit. I ended the game since he was getting frustrated and it was time for dinner, which caused him to go storming off to his room. He didn't come down to eat dinner until the rest of us had finished.

Buster ate a good dinner, but afterwards I had to take a pair of scissors from him that he had acquired from Bud's pencil box. Buster proceeded to cry for something near half an hour. M-lady managed to get him into PJs, and I read stories with him while M-lady supervised Bud's homework and piano practice.

Buster and I turned out the light a little early, since he seemed pretty tired. He fell asleep reasonably quickly, although after he got up once to trot out and say goodnight again to M-lady and Bud.

Melodramatic

Buster seems to have come in and slept on M-lady for about an hour before we got up. M-lady was too tired to notice, apparently. I rolled out of bed around 7:30, and did a fairly standard morning routine with the kids.

M-lady had an early meeting to go in for, so I took Buster with me as I dropped off Bud at school. Everyone was amiable, and we had a good time. Buster and I got home just in time to greet Nanny J as she arrived.

I worked at home for the morning, and headed into the office just before Bud got home from school. The kids had fun in the afternoon, and were running around the living room, as usual, when I got home. We said goodbye to Nanny J and I dropped my things.

The kids and I played a bit, and watched a little TV. I set Bud up to play some Xbox around the time that M-lady got home, and supervised occasionally. After he'd played a couple of levels with Buster looking on, we turned it off and got started on dinner.

The kids ended up eating really well. Bud really got into the sweet bell peppers that I got and Nanny J cooked. After dinner, Bud did some homework and piano practice, and I rested with Buster a little.

M-lady got the kids a snack while I snoozed for a few minutes. Around 7:45, as I was getting Buster into his PJs, Babysitter D arrived so that M-lady and I could go to a dance rehearsal. Bud was excited, and Buster started crying. His crying was a bit staged, though, as he would stop to answer questions, and then start again when he remembered Babysitter D was there.

Buster settled down as I read him a story, and he went to sleep without much trouble. Bud and Babysitter D read some stories together before Bud went to bed. M-lady and I were able to head out to our rehearsal without further incident, and the kids were sleeping quietly when we returned home a couple hours later.

Pen vs. Pencil

Buster was up a bit before 7:30, and I got Bud up around then as well. The morning was fairly usual, although Buster put off getting dressed for a while. He was still eating breakfast when M-lady took Bud off to school. We did have a few minutes to play together before Nanny J arrived and I took off for work, though.

The kids had a good day. I arrived home around 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J after I dropped my things. The kids and I played a little bit, then watched a little TV and played some Xbox. The kids were getting a little whiny when we wrapped up and started getting dinner ready, and Bud had a minor meltdown.

M-lady arrived as I was serving dinner. Bud really liked what we were having for dinner after an initial protest, and ate a lot. Buster deferred for a little while, but ended up eating pretty well as we were wrapping up our own dinners.

Bud worked on homework a bit after dinner. He got a new set of pens as a party favor over the weekend, and he's been keen to use them on his homework. We've been discouraging that, and after he made a few mistakes and was unable to erase, I think we've mostly convinced him. He'll be turning in a very multicolored packet this week, though.

M-lady and Bud practiced piano for a while, and I played with Buster a little bit. That took us almost up to snack time, which we started about 10 minutes earlier than usual. The bedtime routine was similarly moved up, so I ended up reading about half a dozen books with Bud before we turned out the light.

Walking To School

M-lady had her early-morning meeting today, so was up for that well before anyone else. Buster was up and out of bed shortly after 7:00, and wandered in to see what M-lady was up to, then wandered over to me to see if I was still sleeping. He generally entertained himself until I got up a bit before 7:30.

I got myself dressed, and rolled Bud out of bed. Bud mostly got himself dressed while I got Buster dressed. We all had some breakfast, and then Bud and I packed up and headed out. We were early enough that Bud opted to walk to school.

The weather was really nice, and we had a pleasant walk, arriving a couple of minutes before the bell. We met one of Bud's classmates along the way, and Bud mostly interacted with him rather than with me for the remainder of the walk.

The kids seem to have had a good day. When I arrived home shortly after 5:00, the kids were happily playing together. As is usual, Bud was wearing a variation on one of his pirate outfits. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and played together for a little while.

The evening was fairly standard. The kids and I watched a little TV and played a little bit of Xbox, and we got dinner going when M-lady arrived home. After dinner, Bud did some homework, and we played a little more before snack time. The kids were pretty good about getting into PJs, and I read a few stories to Buster before we turned out the light.

Buster took a while to fall asleep. He was still awake when I left him around 9:00, and around 9:15 he came wandering out looking for me. I tucked him in again, and he fell asleep on his own a short time later.

Football Party

Buster woke a little early this morning, around 6:00ish, and M-lady tucked him back in and lay down with him in his bed for a bit. I think the kids got up for good around 7:30, and M-lady came back to bed. We were able to put them off for a bit, but around 8:30 I got up and got them some breakfast.

After breakfast, I was able to crawl back into bed for a little while. M-lady headed out to run some errands at about 9:45, and I got up to hang out with the kids. We played on the computer together for a little while, and then put our shoes on and headed outside.

We had fun playing outside for a while. I worked on my bike a bit, and we all enjoyed the beautiful weather. Around 12:30 the kids started getting hungry, so we came in to get some lunch. M-lady arrived as we were eating.

After lunch, M-lady and I cleaned up the house a bit to get ready for the Super Bowl party. Bud helped pick up as well, which was really nice. Our first guest arrived around 2:30, and other folks arrived as the game started at about 3:30.

My friend B arrived with his wife and two kids, Friend V and Friend G. V is a few months younger than Bud, and G is a few months younger than Buster. All the kids were a little shy at first, but eventually Bud and V really hit it off and had a great time playing together.

The kids had the opportunity to play out back for a bit, and they were shooting baskets until it got too dark to see. B and family stayed for the duration of the game, so they wrapped up and took off when the game ended a little before 7:00. Both Bud and V showed interest in setting up a playdate before too long.

M-lady had done a great job keeping up with the cleanup as the party progressed, so the final cleanup wasn't terribly difficult. The kids weren't very hungry, having grazed on the veggies, fruit, and chips that were available. We got them to eat a little bit, though, and then headed upstairs to get ready for bed.

Bud was good about getting into PJs, and I read a couple stories to him before turning out the light. He was pretty tired after a long day and some energetic play in the afternoon, so fell asleep pretty quickly. Buster woke once briefly around 10:30, but went back to sleep when I tucked him in.

Visit and Bicycles

The kids were up fairly early, and had a good time jumping on the bed and screaming around the bedroom playing tag while M-lady and I did our best to ignore them. M-lady got Buster dressed, and I took the kids downstairs for breakfast around 8:30.

After getting going, I headed off to the grocery store to stock up for the weekend. Buster elected to join me, and we had a good trip. He wanted to ride in the cart, and was well behaved the whole time.

We got back a few minutes before we had a visit from Great Aunt E and Great Uncle T. The kids were a little shy at first, but that passed after about 10 minutes. The kids both had a good time playing ball with the visitors in the living room while we chatted.

We had sandwiches for lunch, and the kids ate well. We were able to visit some more after lunch before the relatives had to take their leave. They visitors had brought a book for each of the kids, which the kids loved. We found both kids engrossed in their books later in the day.

M-lady took Bud to a birthday party at about 3:00, and I made an attempt to get Buster to nap (unsuccessfully). We eventually got up and played outside a bit. We were just trying to get the old bike trailer back in shape when M-lady and Bud arrived home.

Buster enjoyed a quick jaunt around the block in the bike trailer, so I may be able to tow him a bit in the future. After we put that away, Bud wanted to try his bike out again. He's now got the 'riding at speed' part down... he just needs to learn how to start and stop without falling over. I think a few more tries and he'll be good.

We headed in for dinner, and then watched a little TV before taking a shower. The kids got cleaned up and into PJs. We headed downstairs to get a snack before heading up to bed. I read a few stories to Buster, and he fell asleep a few moments after I turned out the light.

Whimsical Meal

The morning was pretty usual, with Bud and Buster up around 7:30ish. I got breakfast for the kids, and Bud headed off to school with M-lady. I had a call at 8:00, however, and had to answer questions while changing Buster's diaper.

Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and I headed into the office. The kids seem to have had a good day. M-lady got home a little early, and took Bud to his piano lesson, where he did very well. I got home just at 5:15, and said goodbye to Nanny J. Buster and I played together and read some stories before we loaded into the car.

M-lady was dropping her car off at the shop after the piano lesson, so Buster and I met her and Bud there. From there, we decided to head to the nearby mall for dinner. We had a good dinner. The kids got Happy Meals, and the toys were little cars which required lots of stickers. Bud wanted to do his using the directions, and Buster placed his artfully. But they both really enjoyed playing with the cars.

We got home in plenty of time to watch a little bit of TV before starting to get ready for bed. The kids were good through the bedtime routine, and I read some stories with Bud before turning out the light. He fell asleep reasonably quickly.

Happy Chinese New Year

I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:30, and got him going on the morning routine. Buster got up a short time later, and M-lady got him dressed. I got some breakfast for both kids. Bud was ready to go in plenty of time, and headed out with M-lady a short time later. I replaced the batteries for Buster in a couple of his trains, and we played with them until Nanny J arrived.

I got home around 5:00, and the kids seemed to be having fun working on puzzles with Nanny J. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, we worked on the puzzle a bit more before playing some Xbox and watching a little bit of TV.

The kids were complaining of being a bit hungry, so I got dinner going as M-lady arrived home. Bud ate pretty well, but Buster deferred dinner until snack time. After dinner, the kids opened their Hong Bao from Ama and Agu, and had a quick phone call with them to say thank you. Buster really loved his stickers.

Bud practiced piano after dinner, and we all played a little bit of Rock Band 3 before snack time. Bud wanted to sing some more, and did pretty well, as I took a turn on the drums.

Snack time went pretty well, and Buster ate his dinner. I got Buster into PJs when he was done eating, and we brushed his teeth and read a few stories before turning off the light. Buster was pretty tired, and fell asleep quickly.

Dance Lessons

Bud was up around 7:20, and Buster up a short time later. I helped the kids get dressed and get some breakfast, and we had a pretty standard morning routine. M-lady took Bud off to school around 7:20, and I played with Buster for a bit before Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Nanny J reported that Buster came and told her that he was 'very bad' at one point, but wouldn't tell her why. We suspect that Bud scolded Buster for playing with Bud's Lego, but we haven't been able to confirm. Buster didn't seem to upset about being 'bad', though.

I got home around 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids and I watched a couple of YouTube videos, and ended up watching some dance clips. This included a Fred and Ginger clip from Swing Time, which both kids seemed to enjoy. From there we watched a couple of Lindy Hop clips.

Bud showed interest in learning some dance steps, so we worked on the Lindy Hop Charleston step. Bud was focused enough for about 4 counts of it. He was really interesting in seeing me dance it, and seeing how I dance it with M-lady.

The kids watched an episode of Sesame Street before dinner. They ate well, and after dinner Bud finished up his homework for the week before starting on making Valentines for his class with M-lady. I spent the time coloring with Buster.

Snack time worked pretty well, and I read stories with Bud at bedtime. We turned out the light around 8:30, and he fell asleep pretty quickly. Buster apparently took longer to fall asleep.

Mellow Evening

I had an early morning meeting today, and was on the phone before anyone else was up, around 7:00. Buster came and checked on me around 7:20, before going to find M-lady.

M-lady was kind enough to drive the morning routine with the kids, and I got off the phone before she took Bud to school around 8:15. Buster and I played with his Quattro and Duplo a bit before Nanny J arrived, and I packed up and headed off to work.

The kids were having fun playing together when I got home a bit after 5:00. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I played trains with the kids for a bit. After a bit, we settled in front of the TV.

M-lady didn't arrived home until late, so I drove most of the evening. We watched some TV and played some Xbox before getting started on dinner. Bud ate pretty well, but Buster deferred. Bud really liked the bread I baked yesterday, and enjoyed about half a loaf in addition to his dinner.

After dinner, Bud worked on his homework a little bit. We watched a little bit more TV and played one more Xbox game before starting on snack time. At that point, Buster elected to eat dinner, and did a reasonable job.

Bud was good about getting himself into PJs while I helped Buster into his. We brushed teeth, and were reading stories when M-lady arrived home. She helped read stories with Bud while I read a few more with Buster. Buster didn't fall asleep immediately when we turned out the light, and M-lady had to put him to bed again when I left his room around 9:30.
