The Usual Thursday

Bud woke around 6:00 this morning due to a bad dream. I snoozed with him in his bed for a while, and then got back to my own bed just around the time we needed to get up.

Bud wasn't a little reluctant, but not too hard to get going. Buster slept in a little, and I didn't get him out of his crib until M-lady and Bud had already left for school. We had a pleasant morning together, and he was just sitting down for breakfast when Nanny J arrived.

Buster had fun at his soccer class in the morning, and apparently is doing a good job following directions. He actually listens to the instructor and tries to do what the coach asks. Which seems impressive to me, given that he's two. He says he's enjoying his soccer class when asked, too.

I got home around 5:00, and played with the kids for a bit after Nanny J left. We watched a little bit of Backyardigans before getting started on dinner. The meal wasn't terrifically popular with the kids, but they both ate reasonably well. After dinner I played Creationary with them until snack time.

Bud and I read stories after he'd gotten ready for bed, and then turned out the light around 8:30. Bud's reading is getting really good. He seems to remember word pronunciations with just one clarification.

Buster had a brief call out around 9:00, but otherwise the kids have slept well so far tonight.

Less Drama

Bud was a little slow to get up this morning, but we got him ready for school without too much trouble. After M-lady and Bud left, Buster and I read stories together in one of the PlayHuts until Nanny J arrived.

Buster had the first of a new gymnastics class today. He was apparently a little suspicious at first, but got into the swing of the class before too long. He did somersaults, and apparently absorbed the teacher's input on how to do them better.

I had an event I needed to attend after work, so M-lady made it home to relieve Nanny J. She and the kids had a fairly mellow evening together. The kids apparently ate really well at dinner, without the drama that marked some of the previous evening. After dinner, they watched an episode of The Backyardigans, which they were just wrapping up when I arrived home.

I helped out with snack time, and then read stories and watched some Animusic videos with Buster before bed. The kids have slept peacefully so far this evening.

The Grape That Got Away

The kids slept pretty well during the night, and woke shortly after 7:00. Since they were up early, the morning routine was pretty relaxed, and Bud was ready to go to school in plenty of time. I played with Buster until Nanny J arrived after M-lady took Bud to school.

The kids seem to have had a good day. It was very hot again today, so they mostly stayed inside. The kids were happy to see me when I got home around 5:00, and excited to watch some Backyardigans after we'd played a bit.

Bud got his school pictures back today, which look reasonable. He also claimed to have two girlfriends at school, but I think he means 'friends who happen to be girls'. Since Bud more or less finished his homework for the week yesterday, we didn't have to worry about that this evening.

Buster was in a somewhat melodramatic mood this evening. He headed up to his room screaming a couple of times, but was usually quickly consoled and came back downstairs to play more. During dinner, he dropped a grape on the floor, which I picked up an washed off for him. Apparently, this didn't sit well with him (he wanted to eat it off the floor), and off he went screaming to his room. M-lady convinced him that it wasn't quite so big a deal.

Bud and I played a little bit of a video game after dinner, and M-lady read stories with Buster. Snack time was pretty straightforward, and I read stories with Bud before bed. Both kids were asleep before 9:00.

Bud has coughed a little bit during the evening, but nothing croupy. We didn't give him any medicine today, but he doesn't seem to be having any more problems beyond mild cold symptoms.

Getting Ahead

Bud was a little hard to roust this morning at 7:30, but otherwise seemed none the worse for wear after last night's croup attack. We did a fairly standard morning routine, although M-lady had to head for work a little early, so I took both kids to drop Bud off at school, and then returned home with Buster before Nanny J arrived. It all went very smoothly.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Bud didn't have any problems at school, and apparently had his first computer lab today. He didn't take a nap today, against our advice, but seemed to handle the fatigue in the evening fairly well. I got home a little after 5:00, and the kids seemed pretty happy to see me.

We played together a little bit, and then turned on the football game. M-lady arrived home a short time later. Apparently Buster greeted her by saying, "Hello, Mommy! We order pizza tonight?" He came up with that on his own.

Bud took some initiative this evening and did most of his homework for the week before dinner. It's not like he has a ton of homework, really just a few minutes each day, but he went ahead and completed three day's work before dinner time. He did his piano practice before dinner as well.

After dinner (pizza), we watched some Backyardigans before getting ready for bed. Buster was fairly cooperative at bedtime, and Bud was getting tired by that point, so headed for bed without too much fuss. Buster was mostly asleep by about 8:30, and Bud a short time later. Bud, hopefully, will get through the night without incident. He's had a couple of doses of medicine today, so we're not too worried about a repeat.

Grumpy and Wheezy

The kids were up around 7:30, as usual, and after M-lady got Buster out of his crib, they came and jumped on us in bed. After being bruised and battered for a little while, we all got up and headed downstairs to get some breakfast, where I made pancakes at Buster's request.

M-lady went out to run some errands a little bit after breakfast, while the kids and I hung out together. We eventually got ourselves ready to go as well, and met M-lady at the mall to get some lunch. The kids enjoyed lunch, and afterward M-lady headed out to do some more shopping while I walked the mall with the kids for a little while.

We hit Jamba Juice on the way home, so the kids had a snack almost immediately after lunch. It was pretty hot again today, so we holed up when we got home and watched a little TV. We also spent some time playing Creationary (the Lego version of Pictionary) together before M-lady arrived home.

After M-lady managed to get Bud to take a nap (after much protesting), she played more Creationary with Bud while I took a nap as well. They apparently had a great time. I got up and played with Bud a little more around 5:00, and at 5:30 we got started on trying to roust Buster.

Buster got really grumpy in the evening, probably because he hadn't eaten a snack in the afternoon. We had sort of a late dinner, and Buster didn't really eat anything until nearly snack time, at which point he perked up quite a bit. I did managed to get both boys washed, and M-lady dried them off and got them into PJs.

I put Bud to bed with the lights out shortly after 8:30. Unfortunately, he woke around 11:00 with croup and stridor. He managed to hold down the Orapred we game him, and I sat with him in the bathroom with the shower running for a bit, then outside on the driveway for a while. We managed to avoid a trip to the ER, and by about 12:30 he was feeling good enough to try to get back to sleep. Hopefully he sleeps the rest of the night.

Hot Day, Mellow Evening

I left for a bike race early this morning, but Buster was already up and just getting out of his crib when I left at about 7:30. M-lady was kind enough to let me escape for most of the day.

They apparently had a good day. They went to a community fair around lunchtime, and saw a number of fun performances. They were out in the sun for a while, though, and headed home after a bit. The kids apparently had fun eating fair food for lunch.

I arrived home a bit before 4:00, and found the family watching High School Musical in lieu of a nap. I took a quick shower, and then spent time with the kids while M-lady headed out to run some errands. We had a snack together, and then set up a video game between Bud and Cousin LR. Both kids enjoyed chatting over video and playing Lego Star Wars.

We had a cool dinner, as it was a hot day, which turned into a hot evening. The kids ate reasonably well, and after dinner we watched Animusic M-lady arrived home and had some dinner while we were watching.

I took the kids upstairs and got them into PJs before snack time tonight. This made the bedtime routine much easier after snack time, as we pretty much just brushed teeth and jumped in bed. I managed to get Buster into bed with the lights out shortly after 8:00, and he fell asleep really quickly, having missed his nap. Unfortunately, he's woken a few times this evening, possibly because he's a little hot in his room. Hopefully it will cool off a bit more as the night goes on.

Potty Success

Bud woke really early this morning, and was ready to get dressed and have breakfast in plenty of time to get to school. There was no need to push him along, which was nice. Buster was up and ready as well by the time Bud was heading off to school with M-lady.

Nanny J had some car difficulties on the way here, so Buster and I got to spend a little more time together. We read some stories and watched a quick episode of The Backyardigans. After Nanny J arrived, I headed off to work.

Buster apparently pooped on his training potty today! He hadn't pooped in the morning, so Nanny J took his diaper off after lunch and turned the light on in the bathroom for him. He played on his own for a short time, then trotted into the bathroom. He called for Nanny J a little later, and had pooped. We're all very excited.

M-lady arrived home in time to take Bud to his piano class, which apparently went very well. Bud is now playing "Twinkle Twinkle" very competently. Buster was happy to see me when I got home, and hung out with me a little bit before going back to play with Nanny J for a little while before M-lady and Bud got home.

When they arrived, the boys and I roughhoused in the living room for a bit before we packed up and headed out to try a new sushi restaurant since our favorite place closed down a little while ago. The kids were excited to get sushi. We had intended to get take out, but the restaurant looked really kid-friendly, so we stayed.

We had a good time, and the restaurant was great for the kids. It was a good dinner, and afterward we headed home full and happy.

We got home a bit after 7:00, and the kids hung out with me in the garage while I prepped my bike for a race tomorrow. We headed in to get snacks and start bedtime at about 7:45.

Bud and I read some stories before bedtime, and turned out the light around 8:15. Both kids fell asleep pretty quickly, and have slept soundly so far.

Wants To Swim

M-lady had another early meeting today, so headed for work after helping get Bud and Buster up. She even got Buster dressed before she left. I got Bud dressed, and then took the kids downstairs for breakfast. Bud protested at first, since he wanted to read his sticker book, but eventually came down and ate before we headed out to drop him off.

Both kids were good at the drop off, and Buster waved to Bud as he headed into class. Then Buster took my hand and said, "Let's go home".

Nanny J arrived soon after we got back, and I worked from home during the morning. I headed out around noon, while Buster and Nanny J were out picking up Bud from school.

I got home around 5:00. The kids greeted me at the door again, as usual. The past few days, the first thing Buster has said to me when I come home is: "I go swimming today, Daddy." I take this to mean he wants to go swimming, and he's held onto this idea for a few days now. We'll have to see if we can take one last trip to the pool before it gets too cold.

M-lady was a little later getting home today, and I had some work to finish. The kids watched an episode of The Backyardigans while I wrapped up work, and then I joined them. We started on dinner around 6:30.

The kids sort of picked at dinner, and were more interested in playing. I played with them after I'd eaten my own dinner, and M-lady arrived home a bit later. The evening wrapped up sort of abruptly as the kids got ready for bed without much of a snack.

M-lady and I had a dance rehearsal to go to, so Babysitter D came over again around 8:00. The kids were ready to go to bed, and I watched a few videos with Buster before getting him squared away. Bud chatted with Babysitter D for a little while before turning out the light. The kids both slept soundly while we were gone, making Babysitter D's job pretty easy tonight.

Potluck

M-lady and I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:30 this morning, and Buster was up soon after. I took the kids downstairs for breakfast around 7:45, and we had a pretty standard morning routine. M-lady took Bud to school, and I played with Buster a bit before Nanny J arrived.

M-lady arrived home in time to get the kids, and I called in to let them know I was on the way home around 5:30. It was very loud when I called. I got home around 6:00, and we packed up and headed out to Bud's school international potluck.

The parents of the kids at Bud's school are probably about 60% Asian, 35% Indian, and 5% other. Which includes me. But it means that the potluck tables were very heavy on the Asian and Indian cuisine, and bit lighter on American and European.

Bud and M-lady were able to hit the Book Fair while Buster and I waited in line for food. They emerged just in time to join us and grab some plates, having procured a new book each for Bud and Buster. We ate at the lunch tables while the music teacher and principal tried to lead a sing-a-long. Unfortunately, the songs were very Americana (This Land Is Your Land, Oh Susannah, etc.) and most of the parents were just listening.

We stayed until we started getting cold, and then took our leave and headed home, getting back to the house a little after 7:00. The kids were excited to read their new books for a bit, and that took us to snack time. Bedtime was fairly straightforward, and both kids were asleep by about 8:45.

Gaming

Bud was up a little early this morning, around 7:15. Buster had called for M-lady a few times before that, but wasn't ready to get up. I got Bud dressed by about 7:30, and he read to himself in his room until it was time for breakfast. At 7:45, I wrangled the kids downstairs and got them fed. M-lady took Bud off to school, and I read stories and played trains with Buster until Nanny J arrived.

Bud had a good day at school, and the kids were playing happily when I got home around 5:00. They had just finished having a snack, and followed me upstairs as I dropped my things. After we said goodbye to Nanny J, we played a little, and then set up to play some Lego Star Wars at the behest of both kids.

We played for a bit, and then got started on dinner as 6:30 approached. M-lady arrived as we were eating, and joined us when she'd settled in. The kids ate pretty well. After dinner, Bud got working on his homework and Buster and I read some stories together.

There was a sword-fight break after homework and before piano practice, and then snack time and bed time. Buster was good about getting ready for bed, and we watched some Animusic videos before turning out the light. He fell asleep pretty quickly once the light was out. Bud took longer to fall asleep, but both kids have been quiet since 9:30 or so.

Back Home

M-lady had to head to work really early this morning, so I did the routine with the kids. If they were happy to see me this morning, they didn't show a ton of excitement. I managed to roll them out of bed after 7:30, and we all headed down for breakfast around 7:50.

I had to get Buster ready to go, too, since I had to take him along to drop Bud off at school. Both kids were great, though, and we were able to head to school on time. Buster was patient as we waited for the bell at Bud's school, and we both waved goodbye to Bud as he headed in. Buster and I got back home and had time to read a story together before Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I arrived home around 5:00, and the kids greeted me as I came in. After settling in, we said goodbye to Nanny J, and then I gave the boys the items I'd brought home with me from the air races. They were most excited about the toy airplanes, which they played with for a good portion of the evening.

We watched some of the football game together, and got started on dinner after M-lady arrived home. The kids ate pretty well, and then Bud got started on homework while I hung out with Buster and M-lady tidied up a little. Bud did some piano practice with M-lady as well, and that took us right up to snack time.

The bedtime routine was fairly straightforward, and Bud and I read some stories before turning out the light and talking about pirates. Bud was asleep by about 9:00. Both kids have slept quietly so far this evening.

Gone Today

I was out in Reno all day today, and got home around 10:30, well after the kids were asleep. They apparently had a good day with M-lady, though.

M-lady reported that they had a lot of fun at Costco this morning, and the kids snacked their way through the free samples in the store. I think they each had about half a dozen samples. They all enjoyed the excursion. Not surprisingly, the kids ate sparingly at lunchtime.

I was able to have a FaceTime call with the M-lady and the kids from the airport as I waited for my plane. It was really neat to have a video call on the go, and to be able to smile and wave at the kids, and ask about their day. I suspect they're going to wonder why anyone would ever just have an audio call when they start using the phone themselves.

Off For A Day

Bud woke shortly after 7:30, but after letting us know he was up, was willing to let us snooze until after 8:00 while he looked at Lego catalogs. I headed downstairs with him and Buster after that and we got some breakfast. Bud ate, but Buster deferred. After breakfast, I played with the kids a bit, and we watched some Backyardigans.

When M-lady came down, Buster had breakfast and Bud had a second one. I was kept busy cleaning up some ants we discovered that were invading through the window. After wiping out all the ants I could find, with Bud's help, I was able to lay down for about 10 minutes. After that, we all got ready to go out.

We headed to the very nearby shopping center which was holding a Chinese Moon Festival. We arrived in time to see the opening Lion Dance, which we all liked. After that we ran some errands in the shopping center before heading back to the festivities to watch some dance performances. We headed off to Jamba Juice to get some lunch shortly later, and took the smoothies home.

After lunch, I played with the kids for a bit, and spent a little time packing. I was heading to the airport in the mid afternoon, so I packed up a bit as well. I had some fun playing 'football' with the kids while M-lady went out to run some errands. After M-lady got back and we had a snack, I grabbed my bag and headed out.

M-lady took the kids out to the library and to run some errands before heading back home, having some dinner, and doing a standard evening routine. The kids were apparently very well behaved, and went to bed without trouble.

I'll be returning tomorrow after the kids go to bed. Thanks, M-lady, for letting me run off for a day!

A New Babysitter

M-lady headed into work a little early this morning, as Bud was off school. I watched the kids through a standard morning routine until Nanny J arrived at about 8:45. The kids were well behaved, and played with Nanny J through the morning.

I had a doctor's appointment around lunchtime, so I worked from home until then. Bud came and visited me occasionally, but the kids both headed out to Buster's music class with Nanny J at about 10:15.

The kids had a good time at the class. Buster certainly enjoys singing, and seems to be picking up the songs. M-lady arrived home in the early afternoon and was able to spend some time with the kids. She took Bud to his piano class in the late afternoon, where Bud apparently did really well.

M-lady and I had a show to go to in the city in the evening, and our usual babysitter was booked. We tried out a new babysitter, Babysitter D, who arrived a little after 5:30. Buster, of course, was wary, but Bud seemed to be interacting well with him. Buster was upstairs playing with Bud's Lego when we said goodbye to him and left.

The kids were apparently great. No troubles at all. They had sandwiches for dinner, watched a Backyardigans, played some football, and went to bed without any problem after reading a story. Yay kids and Babysitter D!

Bud let me know the next morning that he had a good time with Babysitter D, who was able to talk in many funny voices.

Soccer Class

Bud was up when I went to check on him at about 7:30 this morning. I got him going on getting dressed, and got dressed myself. We headed downstairs, with Buster in tow, at about 7:45 to get started on breakfast.

Bud was ready to go by 8:15, and I took him off to school while M-lady hung out with Buster. We needed Nanny J to babysit later into the evening today, so she came later in the morning. That meant that M-lady got to take Buster to his first soccer class.

Buster apparently had a good time chasing the ball around, but was generally more interested in going to the playground than playing soccer. M-lady managed to generally keep him focused through the class, but afterward they had to spend some time at the playground, where Buster demonstrated his new ability to walk up slides.

Nanny J arrived in time to pick Bud up from school, and M-lady headed in to work. The kids were happily playing when I got home around 5:30. M-lady arrived a short time later, and we dropped our stuff and headed out again directly. We headed over to Bud's school, where we attended 'Back to School Night', and got information about Bud's general curriculum for the year.

We got back home a bit after 7:00, and said goodbye to Nanny J. The kids had not had dinner, so we cobbled that together, and tacked a snack onto the end. Bud was really excited to play some football, so much so that he changed into his Chargers jersey, so I tossed a ball around with the kids in the living room for a short time before we headed up to bed.

Bud was fairly quick to get ready for bed, and anxious to hear a new story. We started in on Harry Potter at Bud's insistence, but I think it's a little over his head right now. Maybe in a year or two.

Buster took a while to fall asleep, but both kids have slept well so far.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Proactive

The morning was pretty straightforward. Bud was up around 7:30, and I took both kids downstairs around 7:45 to get some breakfast. I ate breakfast with the kids today, which they thought was interesting since I usually don't eat breakfast. Bud headed off to school with M-lady at about 8:15, and I hung out with Buster doing puzzles until Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I arrived home around 5:00, and the kids were happy to see me. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I played with the kids for a bit. I also took a look at the homework Bud needed to do, and discovered that he'd done it all during the afternoon. Go Bud!

We watched some Backyardigans before M-lady arrived home, and then M-lady and I lay in the living room for a bit while the kids jumped on us. We had a very casual dinner, which Buster got up from a number of time just because he can in his new, non-seatbelted chair.

Bud and I played some of his Clone Wars X-Box game before getting ready for bed. We ended up playing one round too many, and started the snack and bedtime routine a little late. Buster was in bed around 8:30, though, and asleep soon after. Bud and M-lady read a few stories together before going to sleep, and both kids have slept well so far this evening.

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

School Picture

We had a pretty standard morning. M-lady rolled Bud out of bed, prodded him to get dressed, and I took him down to breakfast. We worked with him a little bit extra to make sure he looked nice, because today was picture day at school.

Buster and I played together for a bit before Nanny J arrived. He was happy to play trains with her when she arrived, and I was able to head to work pretty quickly.

Bud had a good day at school, and apparently smiled nicely for the camera. We'll see when we get the pictures, I suppose. He and Buster had a pleasant afternoon with Nanny J.

M-lady arrived home first, and I got home around 5:30. We all played together for a little while, and then I watched a Backyardigans with the kids before we had some dinner.

After about a week of having it set up, Buster finally agreed to sit on his new "Big-boy" chair. We got another Kaboost for him, so he sat at the table with us for dinner for the first time. It was very nice, and he particularly enjoyed the freedom of not being buckled in, and got up to wander around quite a number of times during dinner.

Bud worked on homework and piano practice after dinner, while I entertained Buster. Eventually we had snack time and bedtime. I put Bud to bed, and we had a good time reading and looking at a new Lego catalog. Both kids were out by 9:00.

Monday, September 13, 2010

Returning to Routine

M-lady was up when it was time for Bud to get up this morning, so she got him started and dressed. I eventually got him some breakfast around 7:45, and he and M-lady headed off for school around 8:15. I got to play with Buster for a bit before Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Bud had fun at school, and both kids were excited to see me when I got home around 5:00. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, we played with the spaceship they'd made in the living room out of PlayHuts before settling in front of the TV to alternately watch MNF and Animusic.

M-lady arrived home shortly, and we all watched a little bit more TV before getting started on dinner. Jetlag caught up with M-lady, though, and she had a nap while I fed the kids. They ate well, and M-lady joined us again as the kids were off to play a bit.

M-lady played with the kids in their spaceship as well, and also had Bud practice piano a little bit before snack time. We forgot to have Bud do his homework, but we should be able to make it up tomorrow, since he doesn't turn his homework in until the end of the week.

The kids had snacks, and headed up for bed. Buster requested Animusic videos before bedtime, rather than his usual Lego Star Wars and Cars videos. Both kids were in bed and asleep before 9:00, and have slept quietly.

Mommy's Back

The kids were pretty excited to see M-lady this morning. The kids were up around 7:20 or so, and I got up around the same time to get ready for a bike ride. The kids and M-lady had a good morning together, though.

I headed out for a ride a little after 8:00, while the kids were having some breakfast with M-lady and Ama and Agu. When I got back, around 11:00, Buster was playing with M-lady in the playroom and Bud was playing with Lego.

I cleaned up and played with the kids a little bit before we got started on lunch. The kids ate well. After lunch I managed to take a nap for a bit.

In the afternoon, M-lady took Buster to Targer, and I worked with Bud in the garage for a bit. I introduced Bud to epoxy, and we did a test pour for the surface of my workbench. Then we swept out the garage together.

We headed inside a short time later, and the kids played a bit while I headed out to pick up dinner with Agu. Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C arrived around the same time, and Great Aunt M and Great Uncle P arrived around the time Agu and I returned.

We had a nice dinner and visit together. The kids ate well, and generally had a good time playing with and around the guests. I eventually slowed things down a little by putting on Animusic for a little while before our guests left and we headed upstairs to get into PJs.

The snack and bedtime routine was straightforward, with M-lady putting Buster to bed and me handling Bud. The kids also said goodbye to Ama and Agu, who will be taking off early tomorrow morning. Bud reiterated before going to bed how happy he was that M-lady was back.

Prizes

Buster woke up around 7:15, but wasn't interested in getting up. He just wanted someone to hang out with him while he rolled around in his crib. Bud was up a short time later, and got some breakfast from Ama after getting dressed. I headed downstairs with Buster a short time later.

Ama and Agu went out to run an errand this morning, and I watched some Saturday morning TV with the kids before Buster was willing to eat some breakfast. Bud had his second breakfast at the same time, and they were just finishing up when Ama and Agu returned.

I took the kids out a short time later to run a quick errand and take them to Toys 'R Us. I've been trying to pick up a checkers set for Bud, and I wanted to get the kids small toys for being good this week. Bud picked out a small Lego set, and we got a Geotrax bridge and helicopter for Buster.

We headed straight home, where the kids played with their new toys for a while before lunch. Both ate a solid lunch, and afterward I watched an episode of The Backyardigans with Buster before trying to get him to nap. We spent a little more than an hour hanging out in his room, where he didn't nap.

After we got up, I headed out to the back yard to clean up the grill. Buster decided to come out with me, and spent the better part of an hour watering plants with a little watering can. Of course, he asked me to refill it every thirty seconds or so, so my progress on the grill cleaning was slowed a little bit. I finished up, though, and we both headed in a little after 5:00.

Agu and I made dinner. I made waffles, and Agu made tsong you bing. Everybody ate well, but Buster ate more than anyone, I think. It was a good dinner. Afterward, I ran the kids straight upstairs and into the shower, and got them cleaned up.

We emerged in PJs around 7:00, and headed back downstairs to watch a little football before having a snack and starting the bedtime routine. Agu managed the story for Bud while I read to Buster and got him tucked in. I then tucked Bud in. Buster was asleep within a few minutes of the light going out, but Bud took a little longer to fall asleep.

M-lady arrived home safe a bit after Bud had gone to sleep. Buster woke briefly a little later in the evening, and M-lady sat with him until he went back to sleep. It's great to have her back home!

Music Classes

The morning was fairly routine. I rolled Bud out of bed around 7:30, and got him moving to get ready for school. Buster slept in a little bit, waking up around the time Bud and I were ready to go to school. Nanny J arrived a bit after 8:00, so I left Buster with her and took Bud off to school.

The drop off went fine, although I realized when I arrived that I'd forgotten to sign an envelope he has to bring back to school each Friday. I borrowed a pen from Bud's teacher, signed the envelope, and got it dropped off.

Buster had a music class today with Nanny J. They apparently had a good time there, although I never got a clear report. I did hear that Buster was very attentive in class, and paid attention for the duration (as opposed to some of the other kids who had a tendency to wander off).

I arrived home around 4:30, and found Ama and Agu had arrived. Buster was listening and singing along to the CD from his music class, so he seems to like the music. I gathered Bud up and we headed off to his piano lesson.

Bud did a great job at his lesson. He concentrated very hard for the full half hour, and learned the entirety of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". He's come a ways in the first few weeks!

Bud played with Agu for a bit when we got home, and I hung out with Buster until dinner was ready. The kids ate a solid dinner, and afterward I watched some Backyardigans with Buster before snack time. The snack and bedtime routines were fairly standard, with Agu helping out, and the kids were in bed before 8:30 tonight. They were asleep before 9:00.

Drying Up

Buster woke around 7:00 this morning, after a solid night's sleep. His nose wasn't running as much, but he was a little stuffy. He wanted to get up, and happily read books to himself while sitting on the bed next to me as I snoozed for an extra 10 minutes.

We had a pretty standard morning routine. Ama helped out, and was watching Buster when I took Bud to school. The drop off went fine.

I came home a bit early, around 2:00, to make sure Buster was still OK and not running a fever. He was napping when I got home, so I said hello to Bud and got started on work. Ama had headed back over to Aunt O's.

Nanny J took her leave around 5:15, after the kids had been bathed and had a snack. We had a mellow evening together, playing, sword fighting, and watching The Backyardigans. Bud did a good job on his homework and piano practice, and both kids ate a reasonable dinner.

We got started on the bedtime routine a little late, and it stretched out as I managed both kids. They were in bed a bit after 8:30, and Buster passed out almost immediately. Bud took a little longer, but was asleep before 9:00.

Nose Fluids

Buster woke once during the night, around 4:00am, asking for a tissue. I wiped his nose for him and then sat with him for a while as he fell back to sleep.

Bud woke me up at about 7:40. I'd forgotten to set an alarm, so we'd all slept in a few minutes. I got Bud started on getting dressed, and then went to check on Buster. I found him covered in blood. He'd apparently had a bloody nose during the night, and he had a lot on his face, arms, blanky, and sheets. His PJs had mostly escaped. He didn't seem to mind at all, and was very tractable as I got him cleaned up.

I found the tissue I'd used to wipe his nose during the night, and it had apparently been bloody then. I'd missed it in the dark. His nose was still bleeding a bit while I cleaned him up, and he sneezed once, which brought more blood out. His nose mostly stopped flowing by the time Bud, who had been helped by Ama, had gotten ready for school. I left Buster with Ama, reading stories while I took Bud to school.

I came back home after an uneventful drop off, arriving the same time as Nanny J. Buster seemed fine, and his nose had stopped bleeding. I packed up and headed off for work, leaving Buster playing happily with Ama.

The kids seem to have had a mostly good day, although Buster started showing signs of having a cold. His nose was running all day (no more bleeding, though). He was looking a little subdued when I got home, as he'd started developing a low-grade fever. He'd apparently not eaten much lunch, and had slept a long time in the afternoon.

I gave him a dose of acetaminophen, and he perked up a bit before too long. We spent a mellow evening, mostly watching The Backyardigans, regardless. Buster deferred on dinner, but Bud ate pretty well.

After dinner, Bud went to get his 'surprise' for Ama and me. I'd gotten a surprise treat for the kids on Monday, and Ama had done the same on Tuesday, so Bud said he'd get a surprise for us today. He followed through, and had drawn pictures for each of us. It was very sweet.

Bud did a good job on his homework, and we had a cursory piano practice. At snack time, Buster finally ate dinner, eating about 6 servings of peas. Both kids had a snack, and we headed for bed.

The kids were good about bedtime. I gave Buster one more dose of acetaminophen before turning out the light. He continued to have a runny nose all evening, but never seemed particularly put out by it.

Bud was also good during the routine, and read stories with Ama before turning out the light. Both kids were asleep before 9:00, and have slept well so far.

Continued Pirate Interest

Bud was up early this morning, around 7:15, excited to go to school. He got himself dressed and headed downstairs to hang out with Ama, who fed him breakfast. I got Buster up and dressed around 7:45, and headed out with Bud for school at about 8:15.

The kids again had a good day. The weather was cooler today, which was nice. I got home around 5:00, and found the kids playing with Ama and Nanny J. We said goodbye to Nanny J after I dropped my stuff, and I chatted and played with the kids for a little while before taking a short nap on the couch. The kids jumped on me a bit as I snoozed, so it wasn't terribly restful.

Bud was dressing up as a pirate for much of the evening, and Buster played with the Playmobile pirate ship. We eventually had dinner around 6:30, and the kids ate reasonably well. After dinner, Buster watched an episode of The Backyardigans while I did homework and piano practice with Bud.

Snack time was pretty straightforward, and Ama helped out with the bedtime routine. I read stories to Buster while Bud read to Ama, and they logged their story time (the other part of Bud's homework). Then I shuttled between rooms tucking the kids in and turning out the lights. The kids were both asleep by 9:00, and have slept well.

Changing of the Guard

The kids slept in until about 8:00. Bud woke me around then, and Buster was up a short time later. After getting dressed, we all trooped downstairs.

The kids played with Agu for a little while before agreeing to eat breakfast. Eventually the got fed, and we all got ready and headed out the door around 10:00. Agu headed on his own to do some shopping, and I took the boys over to visit Aunt O, Cousin C, and Ama. We had a good time listening to the Pirates soundtrack on the drive.

The kids had fun playing together, and I enjoyed chatting with the family. We had a nice lunch, and headed home around 12:30 to let Cousin C take his nap. Ama came back with us, while Agu stayed to help out Aunt O. So the kids got to hang out with the other grandparent today.

The kids were excited to play with Ama and show off their new pirate ship, swords, and other paraphernalia. I managed to run out and do some errands between about 2:00 and 3:00 while they played. When I got back, I played with the kids for a bit while Ama worked on preparing dinner.

I managed to get a short nap in, during which Buster hung out in my room and occasionally jumped on my head. Eventually I got up and took Buster outside to play for a bit, as the day cooled off. We came in again a little after 6:00 to have some dinner.

Bud loved Ama's dinner, although Buster showed some indifference. Buster was really tired, though, having missed his nap, and was yawning at the table. After dinner we had a treat: I'd picked up ice cream sandwiches while I was out since the day was hot. The kids really enjoyed them, although they were a bit messy.

The kids and I showered after dinner, and we got into PJs. There was still time for an episode of The Backyardigans before snack and bed time. The kids were good through the whole procedure.

Buster fell asleep almost the instant his head hit the bed. I stepped out after turning off the light in his room to check on Bud, and when I came back a couple minutes later, he was out. Bud took a little longer to fall asleep, but eventually dropped off before 9:00.

A Piratical Day

The kids slept well, and Bud woke a little before 7:30. He was willing to let me snooze, though, which was nice. Buster was up around 8:15, and we started doing the morning routine after that.

Agu arrived around 9:30. He brought with him a pair of short foam swords, as well as Aunt O's old Playmobile pirate ship. The kids loved the gifts, and it took me a little bit of effort to focus them to head out the door around 10:00.

Agu loaded up in the car with us, and we met Ama, Aunt O, and Cousin C at Happy Hollow. It wasn't too crowded, which was nice, and we had a good time seeing the animals. The jaguar was particularly active this morning. Bud fell and got a light knee scrape before we made it to the amusement side of the park, and complained a bit about his knee until lunchtime.

Buster was pretty brave on the play equipment, and had me go down the big slide with him. Eventually we all had lunch together before packing up and heading for home.

I cleaned Bud's knee at home, and it was fine after that. The kids played with the swords and pirate ship for much of the afternoon. I managed to get Buster to nap a little after 2:00, although he protested before falling asleep. He proceeded to nap for nearly three hours, during which time I played with Bud.

After Buster got up, we had a nice video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, during which the kids showed off their new toys, and we wished Grandma Nese a happy birthday. After chatting for a bit, we made some pizza for dinner.

The kids ate well, and we were able to set up a video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B afterward. The kids again showed off the new toys, and had some rather dramatic sword fights in the background as I chatted with the grandparents. We signed off to get started on the snack and bedtime routine.

The kids were very cooperative while going to bed. Bud showed off his reading skills to Agu, while I put Buster to bed. Both kids were in bed with the lights out shortly after 8:30, and asleep before 9:00. They've slept soundly so far this evening.

Missing Mommy

M-lady handled the early morning kids, from about 7:30 to 8:30. We all slept well up to that point, however. I got up around 8:30 and helped out with breakfast.

M-lady was picked up at about 10:30 to head off for a business trip for the week, so we tried to spend as much time as possible with her without getting in her way while she packed. We all said goodbye to her when she left, and Buster kept an eye on her as she got into the limo and headed out.

We got our shoes on and loaded into the car a short time later, heading out to the grocery store. The kids were well behaved, and in order to bribe them efficiently during the week we picked up a package of Oreos. We arrived home in time to make some lunch, which the kids ate pretty quickly.

After lunch we played together some more. Eventually I decided it was cooling off enough outside, so we mounted another errand expedition to a hardware store. I was hoping to get a new cover for our grill, but couldn't find the one I was looking for. We did find a couple of shovels, though, which we need. The kids were again very well behaved.

We had fun playing in the yard a bit when we got home, including riding bikes and trikes a bit. We eventually came inside so I could get started on dinner. The kids ate well, and I put on an episode of Backyardigans for Buster after dinner.

Bud asked to play a game with me, and I suggested Checkers. After looking for a board, I made a quick makeshift board and pieces from construction paper. Bud grasped the basic rules quickly, and we had a good time playing a couple of games before snack time.

The kids were well behaved through snack and bedtime, and Bud got did his bedtime routine largely autonomously. We all read stories together for a while, and lights were out around 8:30. Bud went to sleep pretty easily, but Buster was restless from about 9:45 to 10:15 or so, waking a number of times. I assume he was just a little unsettled. After 10:30 he slept soundly.

Somewhat Absent

M-lady and I had very busy days, and unfortunately didn't get to spend a lot of time with the kids. The morning was fairly usual, although M-lady got a business call around 6:30 and was up after that. I got up around 7:30 and helped out with the kids.

The morning routine was fairly standard, and I had a good time hanging out with Buster before Nanny J arrived. M-lady didn't have any trouble dropping Bud off at school.

M-lady and I both arrived home around 3:30. I'd come from running some errands outside of work. We managed to rest just a little bit before tending to the kids.

M-lady took Bud to his piano lesson, which went well. Bud continues to have a pretty good ear for rhythm, although he needs to work on his 'relaxed hand'. Nanny J stayed late today, and I had the opportunity to clean up a bit before M-lady and Bud got home around 5:45.

M-lady and I turned around and headed out to teach a dance lesson at a local venue. Bud and Buster played with Nanny J for a short time, and she prepared some dinner for them before Babysitter G arrived a little after 6:00. Buster apparently fussed for a few seconds before Babysitter G offered to put on an episode of Little Einsteins. The rest of the evening went fine.

The kids were sleeping soundly when M-lady and I arrived home.

A Usual Thursday

Bud was up a little after 7:00 this morning, but was willing to entertain himself for a little while before we got up. M-lady and I started him getting ready around 7:30, and we had a pretty standard morning routine. M-lady took Bud off to school, and I got Buster started on breakfast before Nanny J arrived and I headed off to work.

M-lady volunteered in Bud's class today, and helped with filing and cutting shapes out of construction paper. She reported that the class was cute and well-behaved.

The kids had a good day. M-lady arrived home in time to see Nanny J off, and wrestled with the kids for a bit before turning on an episode of The Backyardigans at their request. I arrived home after battling traffic as the TV show wrapped up.

We played with the kids for a bit before sitting down to have some dinner. The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we went back to playing in the living room. Buster and I clonked heads at one point, but Buster wasn't too phased by the collision.

Snack and bedtime went smoothly, and I read some stories with Bud before bedtime. He read solidly, and we turned the light out a little after 8:30.

Bike Store Trip

M-lady had an early meeting this morning, so took off for work around the time Bud was getting up. I got Bud ready for school, and Buster out of bed. Nanny J arrived around 8:15 so I could take Bud to school.

Bud was excited to go to school again. The kids seem to have had a good day. The first thing Bud asked me when I got home was if he could have a play date with one of his new school friends, Friend D. I'm glad he's getting along with school friends so well.

We played together a bit after Nanny J left. Bud had created a guitar out of Lego, which led to the boys asking if we could play Rock Band. We played a couple of songs before M-lady arrived home.

I headed out to the bike shop to run an errand, and Buster elected to come with me. We loaded up in the car, and had a fun trip to the store. Buster followed me around when we got to the store, and was good about staying pretty close. I think he enjoyed the trip.

We got home shortly after 7:00, and joined M-lady and Bud for dinner. Buster deferred dinner a little bit, but since it was already a little late, wasn't able to defer for very long. The kids ate pretty well, and had a snack before we headed upstairs to do the bedtime routine.

Buster was good about getting ready for bed, and after reading some Richard Scary and watching a couple of Lego videos, we turned the lights out at about 8:30. Buster fell asleep really quickly, and has slept solidly so far.
