Recovery Day

After a very busy first two days of the weekend, we decided to take it a little easier today. M-lady got up with the kids initially, and I took them downstairs a little before 8:00. We played for a little while, and watched some TV. M-lady came down and got the kids started on breakfast a little bit before 9:00.

I joined again around 9:30, and we got started on getting ready to go to the park. After dressing and getting sunscreen on, we headed out to a local playground. The weather was really nice, not nearly as hot as the past couple of days, and we all had a good time. The kids had fun on the playground equipment, and M-lady and I trailed behind and took some pictures.

On the way home, we hit the grocery store and picked up a couple of items to help out with lunch and dinner. I got started on lunch as soon as we got home, grilling turkey burgers. Bud devoured his, and Buster poked at his a bit, then ate the tomatoes.

After lunch, Bud and I played a little bit of Lego Star Wars before I worked on putting Buster down for his nap. Buster finally fell asleep a little after 3:00.

M-lady, Bud, and I spent some time cleaning up the office in the afternoon, until Buster woke at about 4:30. We had a nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B, and both kids interacted a bit. After chatting, we got started on making waffles for dinner. Buster helped mix the ingredients, which gave him a kick.

The kids devoured waffles and strawberries, and then played for a bit after dinner before bath time. The kids were pretty well behaved during the bath, and I got Buster into PJs when he came out. Buster and I watched a few videos before snack time.

The kids had Jell-o for a snack, and then I worked on putting Buster to bed while M-lady put Bud down. Bud went to sleep pretty quickly, but Buster didn't fall asleep until after 9:30. Buster then woke again around 11:00, and was up until nearly 2:00. He didn't seem uncomfortable or upset... he was just awake, asking to get out of his crib and play. I suspect he'll sleep in pretty late tomorrow morning.

Chock Full Saturday

Buster slept a little better last night, and M-lady got up with the kids on the first go-round. I rolled out of bed a little after 8:00 when Buster was calling for M-lady while she was preoccupied with Bud. Buster rejected me when I showed up to ask what he needed.

I headed downstairs with the kids at about 8:30 and made pancakes for breakfast. I made what I thought was sufficient for the four of us, a batch of about 13 pancakes. However, Bud and Buster each ate five, which didn't leave quite enough for M-lady and I.

We continued with getting ready to go, and headed out the door around 10:00 to meet Anut O, Uncle C, and Cousin C at Happy Hollow. It was a bit hotter today, so the kids were well slathered with sunscreen. The park was much busier than the past few times we've been there, but we did our standard rotation (lower zoo, playground, lunch, upper zoo) and everyone had a good time. Buster's favorite ride today was me picking him up to try the water fountain, and he kept going back and asking for drinks even though he had a sports bottle of ice water at hand.

We weren't able to delivered the promised Icee since the food pavilion at Happy Hollow was packed as we were getting ready to head out. Bud was a bit distraught, but mollified when I told him the back up plan. We picked up Slurpees from a 7-Eleven on the way home.

The kids and I sat on the driveway and finished our Slurpees, and then headed inside to cool off a bit. Buster was getting a bit tired, so I tried to put him down for a nap at about 2:00, unsuccessfully. Buster did not nap, and we got up again at about 4:00 to join the action. Bud and M-lady had picked up a little bit, and Bud's friend M had arrived for a play date at about 3:00.

I snuck out to do a grocery run, and M-lady supervised the play date. Friend M had left by the time I got back, and the kids helped me unload groceries before we got started on dinner. The kids ate a huge amount, and after dinner we had a nice video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese. The kids were pretty good about visiting a little bit, although they made a lot of noise while I was still on the call. After wrapping up the cal, we headed the kids upstairs for a bath.

M-lady got some bath crayons for the kids to play with, so we loaded them in the bath together. They had a pretty good time playing with the crayons, although Buster didn't want to get out and get dressed. We managed to get both kids into PJs to have some Jell-o for snack time, though.

Buster had a pretty solid meltdown at bedtime, largely due to his lack of nap and the full day. I handed Buster bedtime duties over to M-lady, and read Bud a story before we turned out the lights. Bud was asleep by about 8:30. Both kids have slept solidly so far, so I think Buster is past whatever has been waking him the past couple of nights.

Long Night, Great Day

Buster wasn't feeling well last night, and required someone sleeping with him for much of the night. I was up late working on installing a dishwasher, and managed to get to bed a little before 4:00. M-lady was sleeping with Buster when I came up, and I took a shift from about 4:00 to 5:30.

Buster got up with M-lady briefly at about 6:30, and vomited up a little bit of bile. He then asked to go back to bed, where he snoozed for a bit. He got up with Bud and M-lady around 8:00, and was perfectly fine for the rest of the day.

M-lady took care of the kids in the morning, and then took them on a grand morning outing. They went to a new park to have a playdate with Bud's friend J. It was warmer today, and the kids had a great time playing in the sun. After playing for a bit, they headed to Jamba Juice to get lunch, where the kids were very patient waiting in a long line. They ate well, and shared nicely with each other. After Jamba they headed over to the library, where Bud got some new books, and then got home a bit after 1:00.

I had largely finished up the dishwasher install, and played outside with the kids for a bit before we came in and I put Buster down for his nap. He took a while to fall asleep, but eventually had a good nap, which he needed given how poorly he slept during the night. I was able to nap with him for a bit, while Bud and M-lady made Jell-o and played together.

We got up a little before 5:00, and I watched a little bit of TV with the kids before we got started on dinner. The kids ate really well, and we played together for a bit while M-lady did a quick errand run. Around 7:20 I got Buster into the tub and washed up, and was just coaxing Bud into the tub when M-lady returned. M-lady got Buster dressed as I wrapped up with Bud, and we all headed downstairs for a snack.

After a quick snack, I read Bud a story, watched a couple of short videos, and turned out the light. We were in bed a little later than usual, around 8:45, but Bud still managed to take a while to drift to sleep. Buster has been up again a few times during the evening, but hopefully will settle down and not pull a repeat of last night.

Mellow Friday

Bud was a little bit slow getting up this morning. M-lady was up with Buster first, and I worked on rolling Bud up around 7:30. Bud was a little slow getting going, but we were able to get to school on time. M-lady apparently had a good time playing with Buster until Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a good day, and I arrived home right at 5:15. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and I played with the kids for a little while before we settled in to watched a bit of TV. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we all had a nice dinner around 6:30.

After dinner, I made a quick run out to Home Depot. Neither child was interested in coming along, so I was able to make a pretty quick trip. We got started on snack time when I got back, and I watched some videos with the kids before reading stories to Buster.

Buster was cooperative when we turned the light out around 8:30, but didn't fall asleep until after 9:00. He's woken a couple of times briefly during the evening, but has gone back to sleep quickly each time.

Negotiating

Bud got me out of bed around 4:00am, and I slept with him in his room until about 6:00. The kids slept in reasonably well, and we all got up and moving after 8:00. The kids were good about engaging with Nanny J when she arrived, and M-lady and I headed off to work at about 9:00.

M-lady arrived home a few minutes before I did. I had picked up a new dishwasher on the way home, as our old one gave out last weekend. While M-lady said goodbye to Nanny J, I got the dishwasher onto a dolly and moved into the kitchen. The kids really wanted to help, and I had to be careful not to squish Buster. The kids seemed to share in the sense of accomplishment once we got it into the kitchen, though.

I watched some TV with the kids before dinner. At dinner time, Bud agreed to take a quick bath right after dinner if we postponed dinner so he could watch the end of the show. When the show ended, he was really good about eating dinner, and then reasonably quick about getting into the tub. He was ready for bed at about 7:45.

M-lady handled getting Buster ready for bed, and all the lights were out by about 8:15. The kids fell asleep pretty quickly, and have slept solidly so far.

House Construction

Buster slept in a bit this morning, although Bud got us up a bit early. Bud was willing to play on his own for a bit, though, so M-lady and I got a little more rest than usual.

Buster wouldn't let me change his diaper, as he was holding out for M-lady to change his diaper, apparently. That plan backfired when Nanny J arrived, but Buster eventually got changed and dressed and headed downstairs to breakfast. The kids were happily playing when M-lady and I headed off for work.

I got home a little after 5:00, and found Bud and Buster had constructed a 'house' in the playroom. Bud had put a blanket on the coffee table, and then his plastic Ikea table on top of that. The various step stools around the house were collected to make steps up to the table, and padding was put on the various surfaces. Bud explained to me that the coffee table was a bed, the side of the upper table surface was a computer, and the top was a kitchen (and had a pot with play food on it).

After saying goodbye to Nanny J, we took a closer look at the 'house', and played with it a little bit before partially disassembling it so that we could watch a little bit of TV together. At about 6:30 we got started on dinner, and M-lady joined us as we were getting that ready.

After the kids ate a solid dinner and a snack, we headed upstairs to do the bedtime routine. I managed to get Bud motivated to get into PJs by telling him I'd play with Lego with him if he got dressed quickly. We played a little bit of Legos before reading a few stories and watching some videos.

I turned out the light for Bud at about 8:15, but he hopped out of bed a few times before falling asleep. Both kids were asleep before 9:00, though, and have slept quietly so far.

Skipping Breakfast

The kids were up fairly early, and M-lady did the usual triage. I got up around 7:45 and helped out with breakfast.

Buster decided that he didn't want breakfast after I'd prepared his bowl of cereal for him. He jumped down from his chair and went to play. Bud finished getting ready for school, and headed off with M-lady. Buster and I played together, sans breakfast, until Nanny J arrived.

I'm not sure if Buster ever had breakfast, but he was apparently pretty grumpy until he took a nap. That's really not terribly surprising, given that he missed his nap yesterday. Bud had a good day at school, and a good afternoon, although he declined to take his bath.

M-lady got home in time to say goodbye to Nanny J, and got dinner for the kids. I had a team dinner, so didn't make it home until the kids were having Jell-o for their snack. Buster was very thorough about getting all the Jell-o, and then we headed upstairs to get PJs on and head for bed.

Buster was pretty cooperative about getting ready for bed, and we enjoyed reading some books before turning the light out. Buster didn't protest when the light went out, and fell asleep pretty quickly.

Lunch Choice

Bud was up around 7:00, and M-lady was first to respond to him. He was anxious to have playmates, but M-lady and I were determined to sleep for a little bit longer. Buster was willing to stay in his crib for a while, and M-lady went downstairs with the kids to get some breakfast at about 8:00.

I rolled out of bed and headed downstairs to help at about 9:00, and played with the kids for a while as M-lady got ready to head out to ballet. The boys and I played for a little while, and then watched some TV for a while. We ended up watching a bit more TV than we probably should have, but the morning show lineup was pretty good. The kids played some more as I got dressed, and we spent a little time working on the computer before M-lady called around 11:45.

We met M-lady for lunch at Fresh Choice. We used to take Bud there occasionally, but it's probably been about three years since we've taken him. Both kids were well behaved, and ate pretty well. They really liked the ice cream for dessert. Overall, it was a very successful lunch.

I played with the kids outside for a little while when we got home. Bud headed inside fairly quickly, but I played more with Buster until about 2:00. We headed inside then, and I tried to put Buster down for a nap without success.

At about 2:45, Babysitter G arrived, which worried Buster a bit. M-lady and I were heading out to a show, and Buster was a bit upset. I pulled him from the crib, and set up Little Einsteins for him to watch while we were gone. He cried a little as we left, but apparently warmed up to Babysitter G pretty quickly.

They had a good time this afternoon, and were happy to see us when we arrived home around 7:00. I took Babysitter G home, and M-lady got a second dinner for the boys. We got started on the bedtime routine when I got home.

We watched a few web videos together, and I read some more of Winnie-the-Pooh to Bud. He complained as we turned the light out, as per usual, but fell asleep pretty quickly.

Buster has been a little bit restless the past two nights. Hopefully he'll sleep a little better tonight.

Happy Hollow Morning

The kids were up around 7:00 this morning. M-lady did most of the kid wrangling, although Bud did pull me out of bed to get him a Lego set to play with. I joined them downstairs after they'd had breakfast, around 9:00.

We decided to head over to Happy Hollow, and managed to get on the road in short order. We arrived about 15 minutes after they opened, and found the park not really very crowded. It was a bright, sunny day, although the wind was a little chilly.

The kids had a good time seeing the animals in the original zoo, and then we had a quick snack before hitting the play areas. Buster was pretty fearless about wandering away into the crowds, so we had to keep a close eye on him. But the kids had a good time playing.

We had a nice lunch, inside out of the wind, and then headed back outside for more play. Buster decided that he did want to go on the carousel, so I took him on. He declined to ride one of the ponies, though, and we rode one of the solid benches instead. He seemed to enjoy it.

We got an Icee at Bud's request, and then toured the upper zoo before heading home. The kids managed to stay awake on the drive home, but it looked like it was a close thing. I took Buster inside for a nap when we arrived home, but he was overtired and cried until he fell asleep, around 2:30.

Bud played outside for a few minutes, and then watched some of the Tour of California stage with me during the afternoon. After the race was over, we went outside briefly before I headed out for a bike ride.

Everyone was having dinner when I returned, so I got myself some food and ate while the kids played together in the living room. After I finished eating, I took the kids upstairs and got them showered. Once clean and PJed, we headed back downstairs for a quick snack, and then it was bedtime. I read stories and watched a couple of videos with Buster, and he fell asleep reasonably quickly when we turned the light out.

Buster woke once later in the evening, and took a while to fall asleep again. He wasn't crying or screaming, just calling for Mommy to make sure he wasn't alone.

End Of The Week

I was up way late last night working, so I was pretty out of it when the kids got up. M-lady was good about keeping the kids on schedule this morning, and I got myself up and ready in time to take Bud to school. He played tag with his classmates before the door opened, and then we headed inside and said goodbye as he headed for circle time.

The kids seem to have had a good day with Nanny J. I got home around 4:30, after my PT, and found Buster taking his bath. Bud refused a bath today, so we'll have to dunk him tomorrow. Bud hung out with me while I wrapped up some work, and then we headed downstairs and wished Nanny J a good weekend.

Bud and Buster and I played with Buster's cars for a while, and then eventually headed over to watch some TV. M-lady arrived home as we were watching Bob The Builder, which both kids seem to enjoy. I dozed a bit before it was time to get ready for dinner.

I grilled hot dogs for dinner, which the kids devoured pretty quickly. After dinner, we ran around in the living room for a bit before having a snack and starting on the bedtime routine. I read more of Winnie-the-Pooh to Bud while he put on his PJs and got ready for bed.

We turned out the lights around 8:30, and M-lady headed out to a dance rehearsal a short time later. Neither child was asleep yet, so I made a few trips between rooms to soothe them before they fell asleep, near 9:00. Both have slept solidly since then.

Difficult Evening

Buster was up pretty early this morning, around 6:30, and M-lady and I took turns responding when he called. Bud was up sometime after 7:00, and was pretty good about getting dressed and getting ready. M-lady left for work around 8:15, and I took the kids downstairs to have some breakfast.

After breakfast, we hung out playing with Hot Wheels cars for a bit before Nanny J arrived. I was able to head off for work a short time later.

The kids apparently had a good day, and Bud had fun at soccer. I got home around 5:00, as Bud was getting out of the bath and Buster was going in. After the kids got cleaned up, they had a snack of some grapes, and Nanny J took her leave. M-lady had a team dinner this evening, so it was just us boys.

We played more with the Hot Wheels cars, and it was really fun to play all together. Bud and Buster are starting to actually play with each other, which is cool to see. After playing for a while, we headed to watch a little TV before dinner.

At about 6:30, we turned off the TV and started on dinner. Bud had a disagreement about what we were having, and proceeded to melt down. I took him up to his room, where he stayed and screamed for a good part of the remainder of the evening.

He fell asleep for a while, and then started screaming again when I woke him to either get him dinner or get him into PJs. As I wasn't able to make much progress with either goal, I closed the door to his room again and finished up the evening with Buster.

A few minutes before bedtime Bud snapped to and decided he wanted dinner. He got himself into PJs and we all headed downstairs. Of course, it kept both kids up past bedtime. Bud went straight back to bed after brushing his teeth, and I worked on getting Buster into bed.

Buster was good about going to bed, although he didn't go to sleep for a while. I was able to leave him in his room before he fell asleep, though, which was cool. Both kids fell asleep around 9:00. Hopefully we'll be able to get Bud up tomorrow for school.

Piano Observation

The kids slept a bit better last night. Buster was up once, but only briefly. They woke at a reasonable hour, and the morning routine was fairly straightforward.

M-lady took Bud to school, and I spent some time with Buster before Nanny J arrived. Buster was fine with me leaving for work today.

Bud had a good day at school, and came home at the usual time, right before lunch. M-lady came home in the middle of the afternoon to take Bud back to the doctor to verify his TB test. The doctor was then able to sign all the documents proclaiming Bud fit and healthy for kindergarten.

After visiting the doctor, M-lady took Bud to a piano lesson observation. Bud watched as another student was learning, and seemed to be OK with the idea of taking lessons. Bud was very well behaved while watching the lesson, which apparently impressed the teacher. Bud and M-lady got home around 6:30.

Buster and I had been hanging out since Nanny J left at about 5:15. We played together a little bit, and then had a nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B. Buster ran in and out of frame a bit, but did interact with them. He made sure to tell them he was 5.

The call ended when I had to change a poopy diaper, and we watched just a little bit of TV before M-lady and Bud arrived. Bud had a bit of a meltdown around dinnertime, but both kids eventually ate solid dinners. They had watermelon for a snack right after dinner, and we got started on the bedtime routine.

Buster and I watched a few videos, and then I read a couple of stories to him before bed. He went to sleep without protest, and has slept quietly so far.

Pooh Stories

The kids both woke briefly during the night. Buster at about 3:30, and M-lady was able to soothe him pretty quickly. Bud got me out of bed around 4:30, and I slept with him in his room for about an hour before heading back to bed. I assume the shots were the cause of the slightly restless night.

The kids slept in a little bit, and Bud was just getting dressed when Nanny J arrived. They headed down for breakfast a short time later. M-lady and I headed off to work before too long.

M-lady got home first, and I arrived around 5:45. I played downstairs with the kids for a while, and we had a good time running around the living room. Eventually we headed to the TV to catch our breath, and watched a few minutes before dinner.

Bud was a little grumpy before the start of dinner, as usual, but ended up eating a really good meal. After dinner, I took Bud upstairs and gave him a bath. He dragged his feet a bit getting undressed, but I managed to get him to go faster by reading to him while he got undressed. We started in on another chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh, which he really enjoyed.

After his shower/bath, we headed downstairs for a snack, and then back upstairs to read more Pooh. We turned the light out around 8:15, and he was asleep pretty quickly. Buster woke once during the evening, but went back to sleep again quickly.

Clean Bills of Health

Bud was a little slow getting up this morning, but not so much as to make him late for school. I helped get him some breakfast, and M-lady took him to school a bit after 8:00. Buster was up but not out of his crib when Bud left, and I got him dressed and downstairs for breakfast.

Nanny J arrived a short time later, as Buster was finishing up his breakfast. I packed up and headed off to work.

Bud brought a lunch and stayed later at school today, and apparently had a good time. Nanny J picked him up an hour later than usual, at about 12:30. Bud enjoyed the lunch M-lady packed for him, and enjoyed the extra time with some of his friends.

M-lady got home a little before 3:00 to pick up the kids and take them to their annual doctor's appointment. Buster was still napping, so they ended up being just a few minutes behind schedule. I was already at the doctor's office when they arrived, and helped everyone into the office.

Buster was a bit nervous at first, but Bud was a pro. Bud did the usual height and weight check, and then they gave him an eye exam... he passed just fine, with 20/20 (or near that). Buster was nervous in the beginning, but became comfortable with the doctor (as Bud was examined first), and allowed the doctor to examine him without incident.

Both kids got shots, and neither one cried, although Buster got a little sniffly immediately afterward. Wow.

We headed home after getting the clean bill of health on both kids, and the kids played out front for a while as I watched. We headed inside about half an hour later, and M-lady entertained the kids for a little while as I caught up on work email. I got some dinner going after that, and the kids ate pretty well.

After dinner we managed to bathe both kids without incident, and watch a little bit of High School Musical before having a snack and heading for bed. Buster ate a fair bit at snack time, but was pretty good about going to bed. He fussed a little bit, as usual, but fell asleep pretty quickly when I turned the light out around 8:20.

Offset Schedule

The kids slept in pretty late today, with Buster not getting up until about 8:30. I took over for M-lady a bit after 9:00, while the kids were having breakfast. M-lady took off for ballet a short time later, and the kids an I spent the morning together.

We played a bit, and watched a little TV. They didn't seem interested in going out to play at a park, but they were excited about playing in the front yard, so that's what we did. I threw a ball with them for a bit, and worked in the garage a little as the kids played. We had a good time, and they were ready to come inside when I informed them it was lunch time, a little bit after 12:00.

Buster ate a ginormous lunch. He had two whole sandwiches, some cheese, and tomatoes. Bud ate a normal-sized lunch, and we were hanging out again and playing when M-lady arrived home a short time later. Because Buster woke so late, I tried to push his nap out a little bit, and attempted to put him to sleep at about 2:30. He didn't fall asleep until nearly 3:30, though.

M-lady and Bud headed out to see another dance show in the evening, and Buster woke from his nap, after they'd left, at about 4:45. Buster was really grumpy after he woke up, so we watched a little bit of Little Einsteins to cheer him up. After he was approachable again, we played for a bit before I got started on making dinner. We ate at about 6:30, and we were hanging out again when M-lady arrived home with Bud a little after 7:00.

Bud had his dinner, and Buster had his snack, and we worked on the bedtime routine. Bud was pretty good about getting ready for bed. We watched a couple of videos and read a chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh. He protested when we actually turned off the light, but fell asleep a few minutes later.

Buster took a lot longer to fall asleep, not dropping off until some time after 9:00. Hopefully we'll be able to shift his schedule back just a little bit. Getting up between 7:30 and 8:00 would be ideal.

Dance Show

The kids were up around the usual time, and M-lady and I rolled out of bed with them. M-lady took them downstairs when I fell asleep again, and I headed down to join them when I came to shortly after 8:00.

I watched some TV with the kids after breakfast, and then M-lady packed them up and headed off to run some errands with them. I headed out for a bike ride while they were gone. They had a good time while they were out, and picked up Jamba Juices before coming home. When I returned from my ride, they had just gotten home, and Bud was still sucking on his Juice.

We played outside for a little bit longer, and then headed in to get some lunch. The kids had already eaten a bit, so they just had some bagel to top off. I ate lunch after showering, and Buster came to keep me company and share my lunch with me. After eating, I headed upstairs with Buster to put him down for his nap.

He protested a bit, but dropped off by about 2:30. I came out to hang out with M-lady and Bud. Bud was tasked with cleaning up the Lego in the office, which had become distributed on 4 different surfaces. M-lady and I were asking for some consolidation. Bud continually resisted, and eventually I confiscated the Lego that wasn't on his primary work surface. Bud had a bit of a meltdown at that point, and was sent to his room for a while.

A short time later, we packed up into the car and headed out to a local park to see the spring show of Decadance. The kids were a little restless before the show started, but were transfixed during the show, which lasted more than an hour. The kids really took in the whole thing, enjoyed the show, and Bud enjoyed talking about it afterward as well.

We picked up food on the way home, and had dinner a bit late: around 7:30. After dinner, it was straight into the bedtime routine. Buster took a long time to fall asleep, not dropping off until around 9:00.

Out To Dinner

Buster slept in this morning, which was nice. Bud was up first, around 7:20, and Buster wasn't up until nearer to 7:45. I got some breakfast with Bud, and then ended up taking Bud off to school, while M-lady stayed home with Buster until Nanny J arrived.

The kids seem to have had a pretty good day with Nanny J. M-lady had intended to take Bud to a piano lesson observation this afternoon, but it got canceled, so M-lady was home when I arrived at about 5:00. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and then decided to pack up and head off to Red Robin for dinner.

The kids were great during the outing. We waited outside for about 15 minutes, and then had a solid meal. The kids ate well, paid attention, didn't spill anything, and were pleasant company. It was a wonderful family dinner. We made a quick trip over to Target after eating, and then headed home.

It was getting late, and the kids wanted to play outside. Both kids had a bit of a meltdown when we went in, although Buster recovered quickly. Bud didn't and it took a while to get him into PJs and get him ready for bed. I read some stories to him, and we turned out the light a bit before 8:00. I was asleep long before he was, although I think he fell asleep before 8:30.

Buster was still awake at about 9:00, although he dropped off by about 9:15. We'll see if he sleeps in again tomorrow.

Lab Request

Buster was up around 7:00 again, and Bud a short time later. M-lady and I took turns checking in on Buster before he was ready to get up. We were all up and moving around 7:30, though, and having breakfast a bit after 8:00. Nanny J arrived around 8:45, and the kids were playing happily when I left a bit after 9:00.

The kids apparently had a good day, and Bud enjoyed his soccer class. I got home around 5:00, and both kids were again happily playing together after their baths. M-lady arrived home just after Nanny J left, and we all watched a little bit of TV before getting some dinner. The kids ate really well, and after dinner we had a good time running around the living room for a while.

We watched a little more TV before snack time to calm things down. Snack time and bed time were pretty straightforward. I got Buster into PJs and we read some stories and watched a couple of videos before turning out the light at about 8:20. Both kids have slept solidly so far.

We've promised Bud a specific place to do his 'science' experiments, and now he wants a whole lab setup. He's asked for glasses and dishware and all sorts of things. I need to start thinking about other kid-friendly science experiments and demos.

Open House

M-lady again took the early morning response, and I helped with getting Bud dressed and downstairs for breakfast. He was ready to go to school with plenty of time to spare, and Buster was having his oatmeal when they left. Buster and I read stories together until Nanny J arrived a bit before 9:00.

Bud seems to have had a good day at school, and both kids were having a good time when I came home a bit after 4:00. Bud tailed me as I cleaned up a bit after my PT session, and then while I did some work before M-lady got home a little after 5:00.

We did a quick turnaround, said goodbye to Nanny J, and headed back to Bud's preschool for Open House. The field next to the school was hosting various baseball and soccer practices, so parking was difficult. When we arrived, we grabbed some food, and ate outside on the playground.

As the kids finished nibbling, they headed out to play on the playground, neither with any trepidation or self-consciousness. Bud was OK since this was his home playground, and Buster just seems more comfortable around crowds and people than Bud was when he was that age. M-lady and I kept an eye on Buster, and chatted with some of the other parents.

We headed home a little after 6:30, and got a bit of real dinner for the kids. They both ate pretty well, and afterward we watched a few minutes of Kung Fu Panda before having some watermelon and starting the bedtime routine. Bud and I read stories while Buster watched a few videos with M-lady. Bud was asleep a little after 8:30.

M-lady decided to try and leave Buster to fall asleep on his own, which he did without any trouble. Yay! He woke once later in the evening, but if he can start falling asleep on his own, it will free up our evenings a bit.

Fort Building

M-lady took first shift with the kids this morning again. I tried to help out, but I was really groggy. I managed to keep one kid at a time reasonably occupied for a lot of the morning, though. Bud lay down with me on the bed for a bit, and I hung out with Buster a bit in his room as well.

The kids were already working on building a fort when I left for work a bit after 9:30. They had put some of the foam shapes around the slide, and draped a blanket over the whole thing. It looked pretty good, although it was constructed right next to their tree tent, which is pretty much the same thing.

When I got home around 5:00, the kids were singing a Wiggles song (Big Red Car) at the top of their lungs. They followed me around while I dropped my stuff, and we said goodbye to Nanny J a short time later. M-lady called and reported that she had a flat tire, so was a bit delayed getting home.

We played with the marble run for a while, and then spent some time cleaning up. I visited the fort, and we eventually made our way over to the TV, and watched some Little Einsteins. That took us to dinner time, around 6:30.

M-lady arrived as the kids were eating, and we all had a solid dinner. Dinner was late enough that it rolled directly into snack time, and then we started getting ready for bed. Bud had a little bit of a meltdown in the bedtime routine, so I helped him into bed. M-lady came and hung out with him a bit after that.

Buster and I watched some videos on the iPad, and turned out the light around 8:20. He took a while to fall asleep, trying many ploys to gain more awake time. He asked for books, more videos, songs, and a diaper change. He eventually fell asleep near 8:45.

Science Experiment

I forgot to mention an activity from yesterday. In the afternoon, I found Bud creating another 'science experiment'. This time, it was talcum powder in water in a cup in the bathroom. He wasn't stowing it in the drawers, so that was good. But we decided to go down to the kitchen and do a 'real' experiment.

We had just enough corn starch to make some oobleck. We even put some food coloring in it to make it green. Bud and Buster both got to play with it a little bit, and we had a lot of fun. I told him a little about non-newtonian fluids, but we mostly just made a mess.

Buster was up around 7:00, and Bud a short time later. M-lady got up with them first, and I rolled out of bed around 7:45 to help with getting Bud breakfast and ready for school. M-lady and Bud took off around 8:15, and I got some breakfast for Buster.

Buster took a while to eat, and Nanny J arrived before he had finished. He was a little upset when she arrived, but seemed OK after a few minutes. I headed off to work a short time later.

The kids seem to have had a good day. I got home a little after 4:00, returning from PT, and the kids were just about to take their baths. Bud came and hung out with me in the office for a little while, and M-lady arrived home in time to say goodbye to Nanny J. I managed to snooze until about 5:45, at which point M-lady took a little nap, and I watched some Little Einsteins with the kids.

The kids ate a pretty solid dinner, and dinner led right to snack and bedtime. Both kids watched a few videos with me after getting into PJs, and then M-lady took Buster and I read some stories with Bud. We turned the light out around 8:30, and he was asleep a short time later.

Both kids have been sleeping really well through the night for a couple of weeks now, which is great. Here's hoping it continues.

The Return Of M-lady

M-lady arrived late last night, and got up with the kids this morning. Buster woke around 7:00, and Bud was up a short time later. The kids were really excited to see M-lady, and Bud gave her the card he made for her yesterday, as well as the gift he'd made for her at school last week.

They let me sleep in, which was really nice. I joined them a bit after 9:00, and we all ended up just sort of hanging out together during the day. We called the grandparents, played with Lego, watched TV, had naps, etc. Mostly the kids were excited to spend time with M-lady.

Buster did take a nap after lunch, and M-lady did as well. Bud and I headed outside for a bit, and spent time working on the workbench and getting some flowers from the garden for M-lady. Bud and I headed back inside a watched a little bit of TV together before Buster and M-lady got up.

We had a successful dinner, and the kids ate a lot. After dinner there was time for a little bit of TV (Iron Chef), and then the kids had a treat brought from Norway: Kinder Surprise, chocolate eggs with toys inside. The kids enjoyed their treats, and then we headed upstairs to get ready for bed.

Buster was a little put out when I finally turned out the lights, but went to sleep before too long. Bud and M-lady read some stories together, and Bud fell asleep pretty quickly, too.

We're all very happy M-lady is back. Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers out there!

Missed It

Buster was up around 6:45, but we were able to hang out until a bit after 7:00. Bud was up a short time later, and we eventually all got dressed and headed downstairs to get some breakfast.

When we got downstairs, the kids weren't anxious to eat, so we watched a little bit of TV. We ended up eating breakfast a little later than usual. After breakfast, we played with Lego for a little while, and then packed up and headed off to the mall at about 11:00.

We had lunch when we got there, and the kids were pretty happy with corn dogs and cherry lemonade. They were content to ride around in the stroller a bit, which was good, because I wasn't really in a position to chase them both down if they ran off. We wandered a little bit before loading up again and heading home.

We played outside for a little while after we got home, and then headed in and had some watermelon for a snack before I took Buster upstairs for his nap. He drifted off around 2:30, and I was able to join Bud for a bit. Bud still has the cough, so we laid low, watched Kung Fu Panda, and played CandyLand.

Buster was up around 5:00, and had a bunch of grapes for a snack. While he was eating them, he took one, looked and me, and then bit the air next to the grape. Then he said, "I missed it!" and giggled. He did that a couple of times. I can't think of any model for that behavior, so I think this might count as one of his first original jokes.

We all played a bit, had some dinner, and watched a little TV. Before snack time, I decided to run the kids around a little bit, so we played tag. It was a lot of fun, and the kids had a great time chasing me and each other around the house. We were all out of breath by the time we had our snack.

The kids had a good snack, and we did a pretty standard bedtime routine. Bud's cough was still bugging him, so I gave him a dose of a cough suppressant before bed. Lights were out for the kids around 8:30, and they were asleep by 9:00. Both kids seemed really excited about seeing M-lady in the morning.

Still Surviving

Buster was up at about 7:00 this morning, and Bud was up a short time later. The morning routine was pretty standard, and Buster was just finishing up his breakfast when Nanny J arrived at about 8:15. I was able to get Bud to school on time.

I worked from home today, so Bud hung out with me in the office for a while in the afternoon. I was able to spend some time with him playing with Lego before it was time to head downstairs, pick up Buster, and which Nanny J a happy weekend.

The evening was also pretty standard, with some playing in the living room, some TV, dinner, and a snack of watermelon. Buster was getting a little grumpy by bedtime, but enjoyed watching videos and reading stories once I got him into PJs. The kids had the lights out by about 8:15, and were asleep within about half and hour.

Bud had a bit of a cough today, which doesn't seem to have slowed him down much, but warrants observation. Hopefully it'll resolve itself quickly. I've got to figure out what to do with the kids tomorrow... We don't have any activities planned.

Shopping and Dining

It was the pretty standard morning routine, with Buster waking around 7:00, and Bud a few minutes later. We got to chat with M-lady, which the boys were really excited about. Bud sat far enough back that M-lady could see him, but Buster wanted to get close, so M-lady mostly saw the top of his head. He also wanted to press the buttons on the video phone, so he disconnected the call once, and muted audio and video several times. But it was great to have a quick chat.

The cleaners arrived a few minutes before Nanny J, and I headed off to work a short time later. The kids seem to have had a good day, and had a trip to the park in the morning. They accidentally missed Bud's soccer class in the afternoon, but Bud didn't seem too disappointed. He'll get it next week.

Both kids had baths in the late afternoon, and they were playing happily when I took over for Nanny J a little after 5:00. Bud had the toy shopping cart, and Buster had his Push 'n Play, and they were chasing each other around the house.

Eventually Bud loaded up the cart with all the toy food in the playroom and ported it out to the living room, where he put it on the table. It took a couple of trips to get it all, and then I was requested to sit down and eat dinner with them. We had a pretty good time playing with the food.

We watched a little bit of TV before dinner. The kids ate pretty well, and then had watermelon for a snack. The bedtime routine went well, too. Both kids were in bed by about 8:15, and both fell asleep pretty quickly. Bud woke once a little later in the evening, requesting some water, but went back to sleep after rehydrating.

Back to Sort of Routine

Buster woke this morning shortly after 7:00, and didn't seem too upset to see me at first. Ama and Agu had just left, so the morning was just the three of us. Bud got up around 7:30, and we all got dressed and had some breakfast before Nanny J arrived at 8:15. Buster seemed a bit upset when I took Bud off to school, but got over it quickly.

Dropping off Bud at school went fine, and I headed for work after that. Nanny J picked Bud up from school, and they had a pretty standard afternoon. When I got home around 5:00, I found Buster just finishing up a snack. As he colored with Nanny J a little bit, he let me know that Bud was upstairs playing Lego.

We watched a little bit of TV after Nanny J took her leave, and then had some dinner. The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we played for a bit before doing some coloring and drawing, then starting on snack time. The evening actually ended up stretching out a little, so the kids were in bed closer to 8:30. Buster took a while to fall asleep, but both kids were sleeping soundly by about 9:00.

Playing Catch

The day was relatively easy with Ama and Agu spending the day. Buster woke around 7:00, but was still hanging out in his crib when Bud got up around 7:30. Ama came up around the same time to help Bud get dressed and head downstairs for breakfast. Buster decided he wanted to be up a short time later, so I got him dressed and headed downstairs. Ama and Agu took care of breakfast and entertainment.

At about 8:00, M-lady called on the video phone. We all came back upstairs, and had a nice if brief chat with M-lady as she had a break between her afternoon meetings. The kids were pretty excited to see her. We need to figure out a way to tilt the camera down a bit, though.

I headed off to work when Nanny J arrived, and everyone else headed off to the park. They apparently had a really good time, and came home tired. It was another fairly hot day, so I think they stayed inside for the rest of the day.

I arrived home shortly after 5:00, and we all said goodbye to Nanny J. Bud and I watched a little bit of High School Musical 3 together before dinner. Buster was clearly hungry, because he trotted over and climbed up into his high-chair before dinner was ready.

Ama and Agu put together dinner, and everyone ate well. After dinner, I convinced Bud and Buster to start throwing a ball back and forth... they were playing catch with each other! They had a pretty good time of it, too, although it didn't last for more than a few minutes.

The kids got pretty rambunctious after a while, running around in the living room, and I had to calm them down a little with snack time. After snack, we all headed upstairs for the bedtime routine. Ama and Agu again helped out tremendously, and both kids were in bed shortly after 8:00. Buster insisted on taking a truck to bed with him tonight. It took a while for them to get to sleep, but they've both slept quietly so far.

Bees Resolved

Buster woke around 7:00 this morning, and again was looking for M-lady for the first couple of call outs. Bud came and joined us just as I was about to go get him, at about 7:30. We did a pretty standard school morning routine, and Nanny J arrived at 8:15, just as Buster was climbing into his chair to have some breakfast. Bud and I skirted the continuing bee activity and headed off to school.

I called a bee removal service when I got back home, and then headed off to a dentist appointment. When I got home, the bee-removers had just arrived, and took care of the issue. Fortunately, it turned out to be a pre-hive invasion, and no queen had shown up yet, so the cleanup and subsequent bee-proofing of the structure was minimal.

Nanny J arrived with Bud and Buster in tow, having picked Bud up from school, while the bee-removers were doing their job. I got them inside, out of the range of potentially angry bees, but they stood at the window to see what was going on. After the bee removal was wrapped up, I headed inside and we had some lunch.

Ama and Agu arrived in the early afternoon, and the kids had a good time playing with them. I joined them a little after 5:00, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. We all watched a new DVD which arrived in the mail today: Kung Fu Panda: The Secrets of the Furious Five. It's a pretty short cartoon, but Bud really seemed to like it, and Buster stayed entertained.

We had dinner after that, and then Bud requested watching the DVD again. That took us to snack time, where the kids ate a huge amount of cantaloupe. The bedtime routine was much easier tonight with Ama and Agu helping out. They read stories to Bud and put him to bed while I put Buster to sleep. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly, and I was able to hang out with Bud a little bit before he fell asleep, too.

Bees

Buster woke around 6:15, calling for M-lady. He was pretty disappointed when I responded. He called for her again at 6:30, with the same result. At 6:45, he called for me, and was chipper and happy when I showed up. I got him into a clean diaper and daytime clothes, and Bud came and found us a few minutes later.

We all headed down to breakfast, and had cereal. Bud found the Cheerios M-lady had left, so both kids had that. After breakfast we played a little bit, watched a little TV, and generally hung out together. The kids managed to entertain themselves for a little while as I got myself dressed and cleaned up as well.

Around 10:00 we packed up into M-lady's car and headed over to Aunt O and Uncle C's place. We took M-lady's car since it had the High School Musical music in it already, and the boys really like to hear those songs. We listened to them all the way there and back.

We had a fun time visiting with Aunt O, Uncle C, Cousin C, Ama, and Agu. The kids played pretty well together, and I was able to chat with adults for a while, which was nice. The kids ate a solid lunch, and overall it was an entirely pleasant experience. We packed up and headed for home shortly after 1:00, anticipating nap time.

There was some unexpected traffic on the way home, so I took a detour which lengthened the drive a little bit. Buster fell asleep on the way, and got a 20-30 minute nap in. That was it for his nap for the day, but he actually stayed in a pretty good mood for most of the afternoon and evening.

When we arrived home, I noticed a swarm of bees centered under the eaves just to the left of the garage. After a bit of inspection, it seemed they were building a new hive. We sat outside and watched the bees for a bit, and Bud and I chatted about them. I wasn't excited about letting the boys play in the front yard with the potential bee threat, so we headed inside for a snack.

We had a snack, and a video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and then played and watched some TV for a bit. Eventually we took baths, which Bud wasn't very interested in, but we got it done, and the kids got into PJs. The kids ate pretty well for dinner, and we had another successful video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B before watching a little more TV and then starting snack time.

The kids seemed a bit tired out in the evening, and the bedtime routine went much more smoothly since they were already in PJs. We read a story while all sitting together on Bud's bed, and then tucked him in, and then I put Buster down in his room. Both kids had their lights out a few minutes after 8:00, and both were asleep by about 8:20.

I'll be looking into a bee removal service tomorrow, so the kids can get outside playing again soon.

First Day Less M

The kids were up around the usual time. Bud came and joined us in bed for a little while, and Buster rebuffed my attempt to help him out for a bit. M-lady got the kids up and going, and I joined them downstairs around breakfast time.

The kids ate pretty well, and we played as M-lady got ready to go. At 10:30, the car arrived to take M-lady to the airport, and we said our goodbyes. Buster started crying as she left, until I informed him that it was time to go to the park. Then he was all about getting his shoes on.

The kids and I headed over to a local park, and spent some time playing at the playground. We eventually paused for a snack, played a little more, and then came home for lunch. The kids were really well behaved the whole time, and didn't fuss when it was time to come home.

They ate a pretty decent lunch, and we played with the train tracks for a bit after lunch. Around 2:00, I put Buster down for his nap. He eventually fell asleep, and Bud and I hung out together for a while.

Buster woke a little before 5:00, and was really out of sorts. I tried offering him a snack, but he refused. We went out to play in the front yard a bit, and he melted down in short order. We came back in and I got started on dinner, and I couldn't get him to eat anything. We eventually sat down in front of an episode of Blue's Clues, which seemed to reset his mood a bit. Both kids eagerly headed for dinner after the show.

They ate a pretty good dinner, and we tacked on a small dessert of ice cream and strawberries directly, as it was getting late. We started on the bedtime routine after that. After watching a couple of vidoes, Bud mostly got himself ready while I got Buster into a clean diaper and PJs.

When we went to brush Buster's teeth, he saw the potty and insisted on trying to use it again. I dutifully held Buster up over the potty, with no results (again). While Buster was still diaper and pantless, I helped Bud put toothpaste on his toothbrush. That's when Buster peed on the floor.

Fortunately, it was in the bathroom, and splatter was minimal. It made a slightly late bedtime routine a bit longer, though. After getting that cleaned up and the kids all set, we all looked at pictures in one of the Star Wars art books together. Then I wished Bud a good night, turned out the light in his room, and took Buster to his room. Buster and I read a couple of stories before turning out his light, around 8:30.

Buster took a while to fall asleep, and when I checked on Bud, shortly after 9:00, he was also asleep. Both kids have slept soundly so far.
