Stargazing

Buster was up pretty early again, and M-lady got up with him. I joined them at about 8:00, and we rolled Bud out of bed around then as well. I was taking Bud to his school field trip today, and we didn't need to leave until after 9:00, so it was much more relaxed getting ready than a usual school day.

Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and Bud and I loaded up to head off. He was pretty excited as we headed out to the planetarium at the local community college, where we met his classmates and other parents. We headed into the planetarium a little before 10:00 and settled into seats. Bud sat next to his friends K and M.

The program consisted of a movie, generally aimed at kids, about the planets, and then a quick guided night sky tour. The content was perhaps a little bit over the head of the average four-year-old, and in fact, the first question at the Q and A period was, "Is it time to leave yet?" (not asked by Bud).

Bud had a great time, though, and asked me all sorts of questions on the drive home. We ended up discussing mythology, in relation to the constellation and planet names. He asked me to tell him a myth, and the first one which popped into my head was the story of Daedalus and Icarus. It also, conveniently, has the 'pay attention to your father' moral.

I headed off for work after dropping Bud off at home with Nanny J. The kids had a good afternoon, and were playing football when I arrived home at 5:15. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, we played a little more football together, and then turned on the MNF game. I got started on making dinner, which just got out of the oven when M-lady arrived home.

Everyone ate pretty well for dinner, and Bud requested that we set up my old telescope (which I'd told him we'd do sometime) to look at the sky after dinner. It wasn't a perfect viewing night, but I figured he was already fired up from the trip this morning, so I headed out to set up. He helped a bit, although was a little too enthusiastic to help with the telescope itself.

The telescope I received as a birthday present when I was ten or eleven years old, but it's still in pretty good shape. After I got the scope very roughly set up, we took a look at the near-full moon. Bud deemed it too bright, so we moved to the back yard to try to get a look at Jupiter. I was able to set up and find Jupiter pretty quickly (having the advantage of knowing where it was from the planetarium tour earlier that morning). We got a pretty good view with the scope, with all four big moons visible, and the cloud bands on the surface.

Bud was not terribly impressed, probably hoping to see it like the pictures he sees in books. We all had a good time taking a look, though. M-lady came outside with Buster as well, and Buster had a lot of fun running around in the dark.

We packed it up and headed in, and got started on snack time before getting ready for bed. Bud ended up eating another dinner while I put Buster to bed, and M-lady put Bud to bed a little bit later. Buster woke once during the evening, but went back to sleep pretty quickly.

Lighting Up

Buster woke this morning around 6:45, and I got up to hang out with him. He slept again until about 7:15, and then we headed to the hexagon for about an hour, where we mostly read stories. At about 8:30 Bud joined us, and I was able to hand the kids over to M-lady for a little while and snooze for about an hour.

M-lady got the kids some breakfast, and handed them back to me about an hour later, as she took off for ballet class. The kids and I watched a little bit of TV before I got myself dressed, and we reconvened downstairs to play a bit. We had a nice video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and then headed outside to play a little. The boys ran around the driveway while I swept up the garage, and after a bit, we loaded up in the car to go to the grocery store.

The kids were great at the store, and we finished the shopping quickly so we could get back and get some lunch. The kids were pretty hungry when we got home, and I had to rush a little bit to get them fed. M-lady arrived home as we were eating, and finished up lunch with Bud while I put a tired Buster down for a nap.

Bud and M-lady continued to play together for a bit, while I did some work in the garage. Bud came down and joined me before too long, and we got started working on getting holiday lights up on the house. I managed to get most of the ground floor lights in place before we headed back inside around 4:00.

Bud and I played a little bit of Lego Indiana Jones before dinner, which we had a bit early tonight. After dinner I showered the kids, and we all headed back downstairs around 6:30. We watched the end of Cars together, and then had a quick video chat with Grandma W before snacktime. Both kids were engaged in the video chat, and generally well behaved throughout. After chatting we got a snack, and then headed upstairs to get ready for bed.

Bud and I watched a couple of short clips on YouTube, and then finished reading the spiders chapter in The Hobbit. Bud wasn't ready to go to sleep when we turned out the light, but ended up falling asleep before too long. Buster has woken once this evening, but went back to sleep pretty quickly.

Wordsplosion

Buster slept until about 6:30, when M-lady got up with him. I was able to sleep until about 8:30, when M-lady and I switched places. I took both boys downstairs, and we watched a little bit of The Wiggles before getting started on breakfast. The kids ate pretty well, and afterward we packed up and headed off to the park we spent time at yesterday, at Bud's request.

We all had a good time at the park, first playing in the rock/rope area, and then spending time at the playground. It was warmer and dry today, so Buster was able to go down the slides at will. He did pick up a pretty spectacular static charge on one of the slides, though, and judging by his hair, probably picked up 50,000+ volts. His fine, light baby hair all stood up: it was pretty spectacular. He didn't seem to mind, though.

We headed back home for lunch, and I worked with Bud in the garage for a bit after lunch. M-lady played with Buster, and managed to keep him from napping until Babysitter G arrived to watch the kids for a bit in the afternoon while M-lady and I went out and did some Christmas shopping. Buster seemed a little grumpy about being left, but was napping quietly when we left.

The kids apparently had a good time with Babysitter G, and Buster was fine with her. We arrived home at about 5:00, and the kids were having a good time. They were happy to see us, and both kids decided to go with M-lady to take Babysitter G home. When they got back, we got started on making waffles for dinner while watching the football game.

Buster opened up with several new words this evening. First, he and Bud came to watch the football game. After listening to Bud and I cheer for a little while, he started repeating, "Go Stanford!"

Then he showed one of those leaps of understanding when he came to tell me that the waffle iron was ready. It beeped, and the green light came on, but I hadn't heard it. Buster ran into the room, saying, "Ready! Ready!"

At dinner, we had strawberry syrup with the waffles. Buster pointed at the container and said, "strawberry," which is one of the more complex words he's formed. All in all it felt like his comprehensions and vocalization jumped dramatically this evening.

After dinner we watched a little bit more of Cars before getting ready for bed. Buster was pretty easy to put to bed, although he didn't fall asleep until about 8:30. He's woken once this evening, but went back to sleep pretty quickly. M-lady was able to put Bud to sleep without trouble, and he's slept solidly so far this evening.

Street Ball

The kids slept pretty well last night, with Buster getting up a bit before 7:00. M-lady handed him off to me around 8:00, and I headed downstairs with him to see if he wanted some breakfast. He wasn't interested, but we discovered Cars on TV, which he thought was the coolest thing. He's seen the characters around in books and on some of Bud's stuff, so he was pretty excited to see them on the screen.

Bud came downstairs and joined us before too long, and we watched a little more TV before getting some breakfast. After breakfast, we all got dressed and started getting ready to head out into the slightly rainy weather to a post-Thanksgiving picnic held by some friends.

We were a little concerned about the weather, but bundled up and headed out to the picnic. We were among the early arrivals at the park, but the games were getting started with a tug-of-war for the many kids there of various ages. Bud declined to participate, but watched closely.

After saying hello and checking out the tug-of-war, we wandered over to a rocks and ropes section of the park, generally meant for clambering on. Bud really enjoyed playing on the rocks and ropes, and Buster had fun running around after him. We spent a little time over there before heading back to the main proceedings.

There were a number of activities for the kids, and Bud participated in most of them, including the tug-of-war eventually. He did a relay egg race, the tug-of-war, a tow-the-kids on sheets race, and a whip-cream pie eating contest. The only game he ended up skipping entirely was the three-legged race. We were really proud of his willingness to participate.

The main event of the picnic, though, was a touch football game, street-style. 5 alligator rush, one blitz every four downs, two completions to first down, loser walks. We had about 5 people to each side for a bit, and Bud and one other boy about his age came out. Bud was the only kid who played the whole game, though. He was great, and really learned about how to play. He didn't manage to make a completion, but he did get to run with the ball on a few plays.

Buster was fearless, and generally had a good time. He wandered onto the field during the game, and ran off with the ball a couple of times (saying "Hike! Hike! Hike!"). He was a bit young for the organized activities, but had fun playing with the ball and on the playground equipment.

The weather held, so while it was a little bit chilly, it didn't actually rain. We headed home around 1:30ish, and picked up some food on the way. After eating, I put Buster down for his nap. He passed out pretty quickly, having worn himself out running around all afternoon. M-lady and Bud played together for a bit while I tended to Buster.

Bud and I played on the computer together for a bit until Buster woke again, and then we all watched a little bit of TV together before getting started on dinner. Buster declined to eat dinner again, although he did get into his chair. He was pointing at the counter saying, "Green! Blue! Green! Blue!" It took a little while to figure out what he was getting at, but it turns out he wanted to color. M-lady had gotten him a box so he could have his own crayons a couple days ago, and he really wanted to color. M-lady and I took turns coloring with him during dinner, and he was happy as a clam.

After dinner we did the shower thing, and I got both boys cleaned up. We headed downstairs and watched some of Cars on DVD before starting on snacktime. Bud watched through the part where Lightning McQueen gets lost for the first time, and didn't seem to mind. He's definitely starting to mature a little bit there.

Buster ate a solid snack to make up for dinner, and then fell asleep pretty quickly. I got to read more of The Hobbit to Bud, who really seems to be enjoying that as well. We turned the light out around 8:30, and he fell asleep pretty quickly. Buster called out once a bit later, but otherwise the kids have slept pretty well.

Happy Thanksgiving

Buster did not sleep well at all last night, and M-lady brought him to our bed sometime around 4:00am. I was up with him from about 6:30 to 7:30 or so, and then handed him off to M-lady again for a bit. M-lady took care of both kids until about 9:30, getting them breakfast and getting Bud dressed.

I took the kids downstairs and watched a little bit of TV with them, catching The Imagination Movers, which reminded me how much I like their music. Bud really likes them too, and Buster seemed interested. Buster really liked the Warehouse Mouse, too.

After a little bit of TV, we all headed upstairs to get dressed and ready for hosting some of my work friends for Thanksgiving. M-lady and I started prepping the house and food while the kids played around us. Bud actually helped quite a bit in picking up and moving chairs around and such.

The first guest arrived shortly after noon, and the kids seemed generally OK. Both were a little shy, but not terribly. We all watched a little bit of football while waiting for the others to arrived. Buster still says, "Hike! Hike! Hike!" repeatedly whenever he sees football on TV. We also took the opportunity to ask Friend M to try to take a couple of family shots for us for potential Christmas Card stock. The kids were reasonably well behaved for a short time, but we didn't get any good shots of the whole family.

The other two guys arrived, and we ended up eating shortly after 2:00. The kids were pretty hungry, and had managed a bit of a snack early. Buster was also really, really tired, having not slept well and not napped yet. He dozed off in the middle of the meal, so I took him upstairs and put him down for a nap.

After eating, Bud and the guests and I played some Wii Sports Resort together. Bud was great about taking turns, and played with the guys really well. We all had a good time. Bud was pretty excited about the pie we had for dessert, too, which ended up almost being our dinner.

The eating schedule was a bit messed up for the day, but it was Thanksgiving. After the guests departed, near 7:00, we finished cleaning up and the kids had some apple for a snack before starting the bedtime routine. Buster was really tired, and a bit difficult to put down. He finally fell asleep near 9:00. M-lady had better luck with Bud. Both kids have slept quietly so far, and hopefully Buster will get a solid night's sleep tonight.

Fun Evening

I got up with Buster this morning around 6:30ish, and took him to the hexagon until the rest of the family started rousing. We had a pretty straightforward morning together, and I headed off for work shortly after Nanny J arrived.

The kids had a good day, and Bud took his bath with Nanny J. When I got home, he let me know that his arm didn't hurt at all.

I managed to get out of work a little early, and hit a few food stores on the way home to pick up provisions for dinner tomorrow. M-lady got home around the same time I did, a bit before 5:00. The kids were pretty happy to see us. After wishing Nanny J a happy Thanksgiving, I settled in front of the TV to watch a little bit of The Wiggles with the kids.

M-lady got dinner ready, and Bud ate well. Buster again ate a little lightly, although a short time later I got him to eat a fair bit of protein in the form of pasta meat sauce. After dinner, we all played some Wii Sports Resort together before starting the snack and bedtime routine.

Bud was pretty good about the bedtime routine, and I was able to read some more of The Hobbit to him before bed. He's really excited to get to the part with the spiders, which is coming up soon. We've also been watching bits of the cartoon after reading the corresponding sections of the book, and he's very curious why parts of the book, like Beorn, don't appear in the cartoon.

Bud fell asleep pretty easily, although Buster took a bit longer for M-lady to get to sleep, and has been a little bit restless this evening.

Bath Reluctance Revealed

Buster slept well from about midnight on, and woke at about 7:00 this morning. M-lady got up with him, and hung out with him a bit before Bud joined them. I rolled out of bed and did the morning thing with them at about 8:00. We had a pretty lazy morning, actually, and didn't get breakfast until after Nanny J arrived.

The kids had a good day, although Bud again didn't take a bath with Nanny J. I got home first, and after Nanny J took her leave, we played a little before settling down to watch The Wiggles. M-lady joined us a short time later, and discovered why Bud had been forgoing his baths the past couple of days: he was afraid of showing the band-aid he got from his flu-shot last week to Nanny J, thinking she might take it off, and that it might hurt when it comes off. I thought it was pretty funny that he can get a shot without saying ouch, but can't deal with the idea of taking a band-aid off.

After dinner (where Buster again didn't eat much), Bud stalled for a bit before I gave him a shower and then used baby oil to get the band-aid off. He was pleasantly surprised that it didn't hurt.

I took charge of Buster after that, who ended up eating his dinner at snack time. After eating, Buster seemed pretty tired, so we changed into PJs, watched a couple of short Sesame Street vids, and went to bed. Buster fell asleep pretty quickly, although he did call out a little later in the evening once.

Wiping The Floors

Buster was up around 6:45, and I hung out with him in the hexagon for a while. M-lady roused Bud a bit before 8:00, and he scrambled a bit to get ready for school in time.

After M-lady took Bud to school, Buster and I hung out until Nanny J arrived. The kids apparently had a good day, although Bud didn't take a bath in the afternoon like he usually does. M-lady arrived home a few minutes before I did, and we had a pretty standard start to the evening.

Buster has started playing on the hardwood floor in the kitchen by lying on his tummy and sliding himself around with his hands. It's like he's pre-crawling again. He seems to be enjoying himself, although it does mean he tends to be underfoot as M-lady and I get dinner together.

Bud ate pretty well, but Buster wasn't interested in eating dinner tonight. After dinner, I got Bud into the shower, and we got into PJs after cleaning up. There was time left to watch a little bit of The Wiggles before having a snack and turning in.

The kids fell asleep pretty quickly, although Buster cried out a few times in the early evening.

Garage Hours

Buster was a bit restless during the night, but slept pretty well from about 3:00am on. M-lady got up with the kids this morning, and let me sleep in a bit, which was really nice. I got up around 9:00, and started minding the kids as I got dressed.

M-lady took off for ballet class a short time later, and the kids and I played together a little bit before turning on the TV to find Sesame Street. We didn't quite see the whole episode before we turned it off, put on shoes and jackets, and loaded up in the car.

We headed over to the mall, and walked around a bit before getting corn dogs for lunch. Both kids seemed to enjoy. After eating, we walked around a little bit more, and talked about gift ideas for M-lady.

We headed home, and played in the garage and front yard for a while together. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we headed in when I thought Buster was starting to get a little tired.

We all watched a little bit of the Chargers game, and then I put Buster down for a nap without much incident. Bud and I took the opportunity to head out to the garage to work on the workbench for a while, with breaks to play with stomp rockets. Bud was pretty helpful, getting me tools and fasteners when I couldn't reach them.

We wrapped up and came back inside to find M-lady and Buster already eating dinner. M-lady had made a nice dinner, and Bud and I ate well. After dinner, I took Buster upstairs to watch a few Sesame Street videos, and then get into PJs.

Buster and I headed back downstairs to have a nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B. Buster showed off some of his language skills, and interacted with the grandparents quite a bit. Bud came downstairs and joined us a few minutes before we signed off.

The kids had a snack, and I took Buster upstairs to head for bed. He was looking really sleepy, and I dropped him in his crib right at 8:00. He then proceeded to stand up and call for me or M-lady every five minutes or so until about 9:15, while I was in the room with him. Not sure why he was so awake all of a sudden, or why he felt the need to call for us. He eventually passed out, and had been quiet since. I expect he'll sleep in a little bit tomorrow morning.

Pushing Daddy

Buster slept solidly from midnight to morning, getting up around 7:00. M-lady got up with him, and I took over a little later when M-lady went to help Bud get up as well. We all headed downstairs for breakfast around 8:00ish.

After breakfast, we all wrapped up in warmish clothes and walked over to the craft fair at the local high-school. The kids and I made a fairly speedy exit, and went to the park across the street to wait for M-lady. The kids had a good time at the park, although Buster was a little perturbed that I wouldn't let him go down the (wet) slide. We all had fun on the swings. When Bud insisted that he get a turn to push me on the swing, Buster decided to give me a push, too. He gave it a good try.

We headed home around 11:00, and watched a little bit of Dancing With the Stars as a family before having some lunch. After lunch, it was nap time, and Buster and I slept in his room, while M-lady napped as well. I think Bud ended up keeping himself occupied with lego. He really could use a nap in the middle of the day, but doesn't want to take the time out.

After we all got up and de-grogged, I took Bud out for a quick shopping trip to Home Depot. He was really well behaved, and we got the last few parts I need (I hope) for the workbench I've been building. When we got home, Bud had a minor meltdown when we came inside, and headed for his room to cool down for a few minutes. In the meantime, I got a video chat and game session set up with RuggerMom and Cousin LR, and we played for a little while and chatted. Bud came down and joined the family before too long, and he got to play for a while before dinner with Cousin LR.

The kids were getting a little tired around dinner time, but Bud ate well when dinner was finally on the table. Buster didn't seem interested, and didn't eat with us. After dinner I played a little bit of the Star Wars Lego game with Bud before we headed upstairs for a shower.

I managed to get Buster and Bud clean. Bud has recently decided that he prefers to shower with Buster and me, rather than sequentially. Keeping track of both kids in the shower is a little bit of a challenge, but if Bud is good, it isn't too much of a problem. After the shower, M-lady got Buster into PJs while I did the same with Bud. We headed downstairs for snacks, and then got ready for bed.

Buster did end up eating a good-sized bedtime snack, and went to sleep pretty quickly. Bud was asleep a few minutes after I turned out the light. Buster has woken once this evening, but has generally slept well so far.

A Quick Friday Outing

The kids were up a little early again, but things were moving OK by the time we headed downstairs to get breakfast. Buster was a little later on breakfast than Bud, who needed to eat to get ready for school. M-lady took Bud to school, and I played with Buster for a little while before Nanny J arrived.

Buster has been using new words almost daily, but picked up a phrase recently that we hadn't realized that we used a lot. When handing something to Buster, both M-lady and I will often say, "There you go!" He's picked up on that, and when handing something to someone now says, "Theryago." He says it very matter-of-fact-ly, without much emphasis. I think he's been saying it for a while before M-lady or I recognized it.

M-lady got home a few minutes before I did from work. After saying goodbye to Nanny J, M-lady gave Bud a bath (who didn't have one during the day) while I played with Buster for a while. When Bud was cleaned up he joined us, and we got started on making dinner. Both kids ate well, although Buster was a little slower coming to the table.

After dinner, I got ready for a nighttime bike ride event, and M-lady took the kids out to the mall for a quick outing/desert run. They apparently had a good time. M-lady put a lullabye on the car stereo on the drive home with the hope of putting one or both of them to sleep, but Buster just sang along.

Bud was really good about helping M-lady get both kids to bed. Buster was up and down a bit during the early evening, but slept solidly later in the night.

Flu Shot

Buster was up fairly early this morning, and M-lady got up with him first. I took a turn hanging out with him for a bit around 7:30ish, and then M-lady managed him for a while. We got Bud out of bed around 8:15, and had the house largely picked up by the time the cleaners arrived a little after 8:30. Nanny J arrived a few minutes later, as we were getting some breakfast.

I headed off for work, and M-lady took Bud to the doctor a few minutes later to get a flu shot. Bud was again fantastic, no crying, and even politely declined their offer of a sticker after he got the shot. What a kid. the doctor hasn't received the H1N1 shots yet, so we're still waiting on those.

M-lady got home first from work as well, and watched the kids for a little while as I hit a bike store on the way home. I arrived around 6:00, and everyone seemed pretty chipper. We got started on dinner when I got home.

Buster didn't eat very much, but Bud did pretty well. After dinner, we played some Boom Blox together as a family, which was fun. Bud did pretty well, and Buster is interested, even if he can't really play much yet. We wrapped up around 7:30, got snacks, and started on bedtime routines.

M-lady read Bud a story and put him to bed, and I put Buster to bed. Buster seemed pretty tired, but slept restlessly when I put him down. Eventually M-lady and I got him out of bed to see if he was hungry, but he didn't eat very much. Hopefully he'll settle down and sleep a bit more deeply for the rest of the night.

A Visit From An Old Friend

Buster slept much better during the night, but did get up a little early. M-lady got up with him for a bit, and I took him around 7:30ish, when it was time to start rousing Bud. We all had some breakfast together, and then M-lady took Bud off to school. Buster and I played together until Nanny J arrived, and I got my stuff together and headed off to work.

The kids seem to have had a good day, and were happy to see me when I got home a bit after 5:15. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and then Bud wanted to play football sans the ball. We ran around after each other in the living room for a bit, occasionally stopping for a tackle.

When Bud was finally winded, we wandered into the playroom to watch a little bit of a nature program on the Science Channel. Both kids liked seeing the animals (macaws, capybaras, cuatis, etc.). We had a snack at about 6:00 to prevent meltdown. A short time later, Bud declared he was hungry, so I called M-lady to see where she was in her progression.

A good friend of M-lady's, Friend S, was in town for the evening, and M-lady was bringing him over. They were going to pick up sushi on the way home, but the kids were getting hungry. So I fixed a smallish dinner for the kids, which we finished up about 20 minutes before M-lady arrived home with Friend S.

The kids were a little shy, but not terribly. Friend S also has two sons, one about 3 years older than Bud, and one Bud's age. They're all into Lego Star Wars too, so Bud and Friend S had plenty to talk about.

We all had some sushi together, and then did s quick tour of the house. Bud got to show off the lego he's been working on, and Friend S was suitably impressed. Then it was time to start getting ready for bed.

The kids went to bed without fuss, and Buster fell asleep pretty quickly. M-lady had to take Friend S back to his hotel, and Bud stayed awake for a bit, waiting for me to read him a story after Buster fell asleep. We read a quick story, and turned out his light around 9:00. He fell asleep pretty quickly as well, since it was so late. Both kids have slept soundly so far this evening.

A Rough Night

Buster didn't sleep well last night, and either M-lady or I slept in his room for most of the night. Bud slept fine, though. M-lady ended up getting up with Buster around 6:30, I believe. I joined them around 7:30, and got Buster into a clean diaper, and then took the boys downstairs for breakfast a bit after 8:00. Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and I got onto a meeting call a few minutes later. Bud hung out with me in the office while I was on the call, and took off with Nanny J and Buster for the park around the time I was wrapping up.

I headed into work, and the kids seem to have had a pretty good day. When I got home, Buster was playing in the living room, and Bud was upstairs playing with Lego. Today he recreated the fight scene between Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan with minifigs. It was really cool.

I pulled out my guitar for the first time in a while, and Buster thought it was pretty neat. Bud wanted to play, too, and so I pulled the bass out for him to beat on a little bit. It's getting nigh time to start him on music lessons of some sort.

M-lady arrived home shortly, and we headed downstairs to get some dinner before too long. The kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we watched a little of a program about the planets on the Science Channel. Bud was really interested, since he's learning about the planets at school.

Bud had a minor meltdown before bedtime, and ended up opting to go to bed a little early. Buster seemed pretty tired, and went to bed right at 8:00 after a short bedtime routine. Both kids have slept soundly so far. I hope that whatever kept Buster up last night was a one-night thing, and so far he's doing much better.

Reaching Higher

The kids slept through the night pretty well, but Buster was up around 6:30. I snoozed in his room while he bounced around his crib for a bit, and we got up and headed out to the hexagon for a while a bit after 7:00. M-lady rousted Bud to get ready for school, and we all headed downstairs for breakfast a little before 8:00.

M-lady took Bud to school after he wrapped up breakfast, and I read stories and played with Buster until Nanny J arrived. He transitioned to Nanny J without any trouble, and I got started on work.

The kids apparently had a good day, although they were a little clingy when I got home a little after 5:00. After Nanny J took her leave, the boys and I played a game on the computer for a little while, and then headed downstairs to catch some football. We decided to make a pizza for dinner, and both boys were very interested in the cheese this time. Bud helped put the cheese on the pizza, but ate a good portion of it. Buster wanted some too, so went and got a step stool so he could try to reach up. He was still a little short, but did manage to get his hands in the pizza when I wasn't looking.

M-lady arrived home while the pizza was cooking, and we all had a good dinner. After eating, we watched the end of Star Wars Episode I together before starting on the bedtime routine. The snacks were minimal before bed, and Bud went down without much trouble. Buster was a little less easy to put down, and has been a little restless so far this evening. Hopefully he'll settle down for the later part of the night.

Big Nap

I got up early this morning, around 6:30, to head out to a bike race. The kids slept through the night until I left, at about 7:00. They woke when they heard the garage door. The kids were chipper when they got up, though, and they had a good morning.

A little later in the morning, the family went out to run some errands. The kids were apparently very well behaved in a rather child-unfriendly store. When I got back home, everyone had just had some lunch, and Buster was starting to be a little tired.

When Buster started to melt down, I put him down for his nap. He fell asleep a little after 1:00. Bud spent a good portion of the afternoon playing Lego with Ama and Agu, and later with me.

M-lady went to a blogging event in the late afternoon, and I watched some Sesame Street clips with Bud for a while. Buster napped until about 4:30, and was pretty groggy when he got up. We watched a few more clips with Bud, and then I took him to Home Depot with me while Bud played with Agu some more.

Buster was great at Home Depot, and in general is really good about putting things back when you ask him to do so. We were quick at Home Depot, and got back to have some dinner.

Ama and Agu had prepared a great dinner, and both kids ate really well. Buster didn't have an afternoon snack, and he made up for it at dinner, eating rice, peas, broccoli, and a potsticker as well.

After dinner, we watched more of Star Wars Episode I before M-lady arrived home. We all had some popcorn for a snack, and then it was off to bed.

Buster was pretty excited at bedtime, and I had to work to chase him down to get him into PJs. He eventually settled down, but it took a while for him to fall asleep. He was then up again a bit later, and again took a while to fall back to sleep. I hope the big nap didn't upset his schedule too much.

M-lady read some more of The Hobbit to Bud before bed. He went to sleep on his own pretty quickly.

Photo Attempt

I was up with Buster in the wee hours, and he got up for good with M-lady at about 6:00. I ended up leaving at about 6:30 for some early-morning shopping, and when I returned around 8:00 everyone was up and playing.

I hung out for a bit, and then snoozed for a little while. M-lady woke me around 10:00, and I tried to get Buster to take a morning nap, to no avail. He was pretty tired, but just too excited to take a nap.

Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C arrived around 11:00 or so. I got started on making waffles for brunch shortly, and the kids and family played in the living room. I heard a loud lightsaber fight going on, with lots of participants.

Before people started eating, we tried to get some family photos. We never attempted the whole family at once, but took turns with the nuclear families. Unfortunately, between tired and squirmy kids, we didn't get a picture that we can point to as our family picture for the year. The attempts will continue until it's time to start photoshopping something together.

Everyone enjoyed the brunch, and afterward we chatted and tried a few more family pictures. Eventually the kids started getting particularly grumpy, and Aunt O and Uncle C took Cousin C home for a nap. I turned on the TV to watch some of the Stanford USC game, and had Buster join me for a bit while Bud played with Lego with Agu upstairs.

Buster eventually got very groggy, and I took him upstairs and put him down for a nap a little before 2:00. Bud joined me to watch a little bit more of the game before we turned it off and headed out into the garage to work on the workbench.

Bud was pretty helpful, although he got distracted and played in the front yard with Agu for a bit as well. M-lady came out with Buster briefly to visit, but Buster was too intent on running around the garage, so she took him back inside pretty quickly. Bud and Agu and I eventually headed back in to have dinner.

We had a good dinner, although Buster was getting grumpy again, and after eating a little bit of dinner refused further food. He was willing to eat some raisins, though. Bud ate a solid meal, and after dinner we all played some more Wii Sports Resort. Bud tried archery, and after a little coaching was able to do really well by himself. He also really liked cycling with me, which surprised me a little bit by putting us on a tandem bike.

We took the kids upstairs for a shower, and Bud decided to join Buster and me rather than wait his turn. It worked out pretty well, though, and both kids got clean without any meltdowns. We headed back downstairs for a snack, where Buster ate pretty well, and then started the bedtime routine.

I read more of The Hobbit to Bud, and we turned out the light around 8:15. He fell asleep pretty quickly, and both kids have slept quietly so far tonight.

Balloon Surprise

M-lady slept in Buster's room for a little while in the morning, and then got him up around 6:45 or so. He was content to read in his crib for a while, but started calling for attention at about 7:00. I took him to the hexagon, where he read books for a bit. We eventually gathered Bud up as well, and headed downstairs for breakfast.

The kids were OK with Ama getting them breakfast, so I headed back upstairs for a bit. Bud ate and M-lady took him to school, and Buster played with Nanny J and Ama and Agu for the morning.

The kids did well with the grandparents and Nanny J today. The big treat of the day came after lunch, which each child got a balloon that the grandparents had picked up from the party store that morning. Buster thought his was just about the best thing in the world. Bud was a little less impressed, but ended up playing with the balloon quite a bit during the day.

M-lady and I both arrived home a bit after 5:00, and joined in the football and balloon play after Nanny J left. I got started on dinner pretty quickly, and both kids ended up eating well. Buster had a few bites of his turkeyburger, which was pretty good, since he usually doesn't eat much meat.

Bud wanted to watch some of Star Wars Episode I after dinner, so we put that on until it was time for a snack before bedtime. Buster was too tired at that point, and melted down when we didn't let him take his snack out of the kitchen.

I took Buster upstairs, and we settled down in front of some Sesame Street videos. After turning off the computer I said, "Hey Buster, it's time for..." and he finished my sentence, correctly, with: "Jamas!" We did the rest of the bedtime routine, and Buster was asleep pretty quickly a short time after 8:00.

M-lady and Agu got Bud into bed, and he was asleep around the same time. Both kids have slept well so far this evening.

Raisin Bread

Buster was up this morning around 7:00, and Bud soon afterward. M-lady got up with Buster, and I rose with Bud. We got the kids into clean clothes, and everyone headed downstairs for breakfast with Ama. I was able to leave the kids breakfasting with her, so Buster's definitely getting more comfortable with her.

M-lady and I headed for work after Nanny J arrived. The kids apparently had a pretty good day with the extra playmates.

M-lady got home around 5:15, and Nanny J took off. I got home about 15 minutes later, and we all sat down to dinner. Bud ate really well, and Buster did a good job on his peas and cauliflower, although he eschewed the shrimp. He's not a big meat eater, over all.

Ama and Agu had picked up cream puffs from Beard Papa's, which we had for dessert. Buster had some of mine. After dessert we all played some Wii Sports Resort, with Bud calling the games for the most part. The duel game was very popular, as was the dogfighting game we tried towards the end of the play session.

The kids had a snack of raisin toast before bed. Buster loves raisins, and thinks that raisin bread is just about the best invention of all time. This evening he shredded his toast to find the raisins.

Bud balked a little when getting into PJs, but otherwise the bedtime routine was uneventful. Buster was pretty happy, and ran around upstairs while M-lady followed with his PJs. Both kids were in bed shortly after 8:00, though and have slept quietly so far this evening.

Hair Suspicion

Buster didn't sleep particularly well last night, possibly due to the fact that his heavy bag wasn't available so he was sleeping in a lighter bag. I was up with him a few times, and then M-lady brought him to our bed around 5:00ish.

I got up with Buster a little after 7:00, as M-lady had to head into work early. We played in the hexagon together for a while, and eventually roused Bud at about 8:00. When we went in, he said he was sleepy, just like me.

He got up a few minutes later, and we all tromped downstairs and had some breakfast. After breakfast, there was some dancing in the living room before Nanny J arrived. The kids were pretty happy to see her, and I was able to head back upstairs and take a nap, as I was off work today.

The kids went with Nanny J to the park, and when they returned, they discovered that Ama and Agu had arrived. I headed out a little after 11:00, and the kids were playing with Agu. I was home again briefly mid-afternoon, and Buster was napping while Bud played with Agu.

I got home a bit before 5:00, and the kids were playing with long balloons repurposed as lightsabers. Bud was happy to see me, but Buster was a bit suspicious as I had just come back from getting highlights in my hair. He didn't run to me as usual, and regarded me from a safe distance to figure out who I was. Later in the evening he decided that I was, in fact, Daddy, and let me put him to bed.

We had dinner shortly after M-lady arrived home, and both kids ate pretty well. Buster indicated he was done jumped down, ran around, and then requested another spoonful of corn from M-lady.

After dinner, we all played some Beatles Rock Band together. Ama and Agu sang, and the kids and I played drums together. We all had a pretty good time. Eventually, snack time came up, and the kids munched a bit before M-lady put Bud to bed and I handled Buster.

Buster was in bed shortly after 8:00, and fell asleep pretty quickly. I put him back in his heavier sleep sack tonight, so hopefully he'll sleep a little more solidly. So far both kids have slept quietly.

Games with Kids

Buster slept through the night! He got up around 7:00, and M-lady got up with him. She brought him to bed a short time later, and Bud joined us. After Buster bounced around on the bed a little, I changed his diaper and got him into clean clothes. We hung out in the hexagon for a little while, and then headed downstairs to get some breakfast.

The kids ate pretty well, and M-lady took over breakfast duties while I got myself dressed. Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and M-lady and I headed for work.

The kids apparently went to the park and had a good time. Buster had his usual afternoon nap, and both kids had baths later in the afternoon. M-lady discovered a soaked shirt in Buster's laundry this evening, and the speculation is that he managed to get into the tub before Nanny J got all his clothes off. He loves to play in the water.

I got home a little after 5:00, and danced and played with the kids for a while after Nanny J departed. We settled down by watching an episode of Ace of Cakes before M-lady arrived home. Dinner followed.

After dinner, I played some card games with Bud. He's not much fun to play with right now, since he bends the rules so he can win. I need to teach him about playing by the rules so everyone can have fun. M-lady spent the time reading many, many books to Buster.

We had a snack and watched a little bit of The Clone Wars before heading for bed. I read Bud some more of The Hobbit, which he really seems to be enjoying, although he continues to ask innumerable questions. Eventually I called a moratorium on questions until morning, and we turned out the light. He fell asleep within a few minutes.

Buster has called out once, but hopefully will stay asleep for the rest of the night.

How We Play Football

Buster woke a few times during the night, and I was up with him the first couple of times. M-lady got up with him when he woke around 7:00, and did the first morning shift with the kids. I got up a little before 8:00 to help out with Buster while M-lady and Bud got some breakfast.

Buster and I came down a short time later to have some breakfast, and then said goodbye to Bud and M-lady as they headed off to school. Buster and I played together for a bit in the playroom before Nanny J arrived and tempted Buster away with an apple. I headed off for work.

The kids apparently had a good day. I got home a little after 5:00, and the kids were running around the living room, playing football. After Nanny J took her leave, we all ran around together. Buster had the ball, I ran in circles around him, and Bud tried to tackle me. Buster alternated saying, "Hike! Hike! Hike!..." and, "Taggul! Taggul! Taggul!..." Every once in a while I'd let Bud catch me and we'd all fall down, and I'd get a few tickles in on both kids.

After getting both kids winded, we headed to the playroom to watch some Monday Night Football. M-lady arrived home a little later, and we got started on dinner.

Bud ate pretty well, and Buster ate a bit. Buster must be out of his growth phase right now, because he's not consuming his body weight at each meal. We all played in the playroom together a bit after dinner, watched a little more football, and then had a snack and headed for bed.

I was able to put Buster down pretty quickly after brushing teeth and watching a little bit of Sesame Street on the web. M-lady put Bud to bed after reading to him for a little while. Both kids have slept soundly so far this evening.

Park, Crafts, and Video Games

Buster was up a little before 7:00, and M-lady got up with him. I got up around 7:30, and found Bud up in the office playing with Lego. We all headed downstairs before too long to get started on breakfast.

I got a batch of waffles together, which everyone seemed to enjoy. After waffles, I went back to be for about half an hour while M-lady watched the kids and got ready to go to ballet.

After M-lady left, I got myself dressed and loaded up the kids to go to the park. Bud picked the park, and we headed over there. The kids had a great time playing on the equipment. We started on the smaller jungle gym, and Buster tackled the stairs and slides on his own. Then Bud showed interested in the bigger gym, so we wandered over there. I chaperoned Buster, who still managed the stairs, and was all set to throw himself down some very large slides. I rode the slides with him repeatedly.

Bud showed off some good climbing and balance skills, and we had a lot of fun together. After about an hour, we got back in the car, and swung by REI on the way home just to look around a little bit. Bud was interested in the skis, but ready to head home pretty quickly. After a quick look around the store, we headed out and swung by a Jamba Juice on the way home to pick up a snack.

Bud sucked down his whole juice pretty quickly, and Buster had about half of mine. After juice we watched a little bit of TV, checking out the football scores before I noticed that there was a dog show on. The kids really liked it. Bud in particular found a show Shih Tzu to be hilarious.

We got started on lunch a short time later, and both kids ate pretty well. M-lady arrived home as we were wrapping up lunch, and after she had eaten her lunch I started getting ready for a bike ride. I put Buster down for a nap around 2:00, and then left Bud and M-lady working on origami together for the ride.

Buster apparently slept until about 3:30. I got home around 4:30, and found the boys in their football jerseys and everyone doing pretty well, although Buster seemed a bit grumpy. I plunked down to watch a little more football with them while M-lady got dinner together.

We had a good dinner, and afterward I was able to get both kids cycled through the shower pretty quickly. Bud was anxious to get into PJs so we could play some Wii Sports Resort before bedtime. We played sword fighting, table tennis, golf, and bowling before wrapping up and getting a snack.

M-lady put Buster to bed, and I read Bud another chapter from The Hobbit before we wrapped up for the night. When I finally turned out the light around 8:45, Bud fell asleep in about two minutes. Both kids have slept quietly so far this evening.

Mid-Day Crash

Buster woke at about 5:45 this morning, and I got up with him. He was content hanging out in his crib, and I managed to snooze a bit on the couch, but I don't think he got back to sleep. I switched with M-lady at about 7:00, and Bud got up a bit before 8:00.

I got up a bit after 8:00 to help recover from a dispute over a toy between the kids, and ended up taking Buster downstairs to breakfast. Bud and M-lady joined us a few minutes later. After the kids had eaten, we all watched the results show of Dancing With The Stars together.

I played a little bit of a computer game with Bud, and then we packed up and headed over to Aunt O and Uncle C's place to celebrate Aunt O's birthday. Ama and Agu were there, and the boys were happy to see them. Cousin C looked a little suspicious of us at first, but didn't seem to mind having the playmates in the house.

We had a nice lunch, and the kids had a good time playing together. Buster was getting tired, though, having woken up so early, and we took off for home shortly after we had some cake. Buster and M-lady fell asleep on the drive home.

I was able to transfer Buster to his crib, and M-lady and I fell asleep as well. I think Bud played with Legos by himself for a bit. We all got up a bit before 4:00, and M-lady fed the kids a snack.

I watched a little bit of The Wiggles with the kids before we had some dinner. The kids ate a solid dinner, and afterward we all played together in the living room for a little while. I put on music from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and we had a big lightsaber fight and rolled balls around.

Eventually we had a snack, and started the bedtime routine a little earlier than usual. Buster and I watched some Sesame Street videos on the computer before wrapping up and going to bed a little after 8:00. Bud went to sleep around the same time. Buster has called out a few times this evening, but has gone back to sleep quickly each time.

Special Noodle Soup

Buster was up early this morning again, around 6:00. M-lady was up with him first, and I got up with him around 6:45. Bud was up a short time later, and the standard morning proceeded, although Bud was a bit snorky, sounding like he might be coming down with something. We deemed him fit for school, though, and M-lady took Bud off to school around 8:15. Buster and I read stories together until Nanny J arrived.

M-lady was home a bit early today, and I managed to get home right at about 5:15. Nanny J had already left, and I took a few minutes to settle in before joining the family. I gave M-lady a break and sat with the kids in front of the TV for a bit, watching one of Bud's favorite shows, How It's Made on the Science Channel. Unfortunately I was knackered, and fell asleep, so I didn't shut the TV off to get dinner quickly enough.

Bud got a bit cranky (since he was hungry), and ended up heading up to his room for a timeout. A few minutes later, he was asleep. M-lady and I got Buster fed and finished up our own dinner, and then I started the process of getting Bud awake again to eat something.

I made Bud some ramen for dinner, (the Special Noodle Soup), which he really enjoyed after I'd gotten him to wake up a little bit. After dinner, we started on the bedtime routine. Buster was getting pretty tired after being pretty well behaved all evening, and M-lady got him into bed. I read more of The Hobbit to Bud before putting him to sleep. Hopefully he'll feel better tomorrow.

Rasp

Buster was up again around 5:30, but went back to sleep until around 7:00. I got up to help Bud get dressed at about 7:15, but headed back to bed for a little while after that. M-lady got the kids headed downstairs for breakfast, where I joined them as they were finishing up.

The kids and I read some stories for a while, and the cleaners arrived around 8:30, followed shortly by Nanny J. The kids started playing with her quickly, and I packed up and headed off for work.

The kids had a good day, and did end up going to the park again, even though the weather turned a bit chillier today. It rained on my a little on the way home, and apparently poured (briefly) on M-lady's drive home.

I arrived home in time to see Nanny J off, and Bud and I immediately had dinner. Bud had asked to work on the workbench in the garage with me this evening, and I suggested that if we ate dinner quickly, we could spend the rest of the evening working in the garage as soon as M-lady got home.

Buster wasn't really interested in eating at the time, but Bud ate a very good meal. After dinner, we all watched a few minutes of football before M-lady arrived home. She started getting her and Buster's dinner ready, and Bud and I headed out to the garage.

Bud picked up a rasp out of the toolbox, and I showed him how to use it on a piece of scrap 2x4. He was entranced, and spent about an hour shaping the wood. He was very proud of the edge he managed to round off. He also managed to mostly cover himself in sawdust.

We headed in around 7:30, got into PJs, had a snack, and headed for bed. M-lady put Buster to bed, and I read a bit more of The Hobbit to Bud. Bud was asleep by about 8:45.

Buster apparently woke a couple times during the evening, but has slept quietly for a while now. Still hoping he'll start sleeping through the night again!

Another Photo Shoot

Buster didn't wake up this morning until about 5:30, which definitely marked an improvement in his sleeping pattern. M-lady went and slept in his room for a while at that point. Bud came and got me up around 7:00, and I hung out with him in his room for about fifteen minutes before we got him dressed and got started on the standard morning routine.

Buster was bright-eyed by that point, but seemed happy hanging out with M-lady as she got ready, so I took Bud downstairs to breakfast. They joined us before too long, and I fed Buster some oatmeal as M-lady and Bud took their leave and headed off to school. Buster and I finished up breakfast and read stories until Nanny J arrived around 8:45.

The kids had a good day with Nanny J. They headed to the park in the afternoon, and Nanny J's husband met them there to try some more photos (we got a few good images from the photoshoot this weekend, but most were of us trying to stop Buster from chasing geese into the lake). The kids seemed happy as usual when I arrived home a little after 5:00.

After saying goodbye to Nanny J, we played in the living room for a while, before heading into the playroom and watching a little bit of TV before starting on dinner. Bud was interested in a nature program, so we watched some of that. Buster eventually let me know he was hungry, so we got started on dinner.

Both kids ate really well. M-lady arrived home as we were getting set up, and joined us for dinner. After dinner, I surprised Bud and M-lady with some treats I'd picked up during the day at a Chinese bakery, which was next door to the place I had lunch.

We all played together in the living room for a little while after dinner, and got started on the bedtime routine shortly after. I did the routine with Buster, and he was very cooperative. He usually tries to delay getting into his PJs, but offered up both arms to put them on tonight. We watched some videos, which Bud and M-lady joined us for, and then headed off to bed. I think he was pretty tired, because he fell asleep right away.

Both kids have slept quietly so far tonight, and I have high hopes that Buster will sleep until morning.

Another Evening Outing

Buster was again restless last night, so M-lady was in his room for a while, and I slept there from about 4:00 to 7:00. M-lady got up with the kids at 7:00, as I tried to de-kink from sleeping on Buster's couch. Buster was very happy when he got up, though.

I got the kids some breakfast around 8:00, and we read stories together until Nanny J arrived at 8:45. I headed for work a short time later.

The kids apparently had a good day, and were running around the living room as usual when I got home shortly after 5:00. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and read stories again for a little while. Buster has recently become much more patient with stories, generally waiting for the reader to finish reading the page before turning to the next one.

We watched a little bit of Ace of Cakes, which wrapped up just as M-lady arrived home. We all had a good dinner, and then loading into the car to go vote. The polling place was at Bud's future elementary school. We explained to Bud that this was the school he'd be going to next year, and he looked around carefully.

After getting home, we had time to watch a few videos and look at pictures on the computer before going back downstairs for a snack. M-lady supervised the snack, and I took Bud upstairs and got him ready for bed. We read a little bit of The Hobbit, but cut short a little bit since Bud was jumping on the bed.

Both kids went to sleep without too much issue, and have slept peacefully so far. Hopefully Buster's restlessness the past couple of nights has been due to the time change, and he'll start settling down a bit more soon.

Dinner Quest

Buster was again up a little early, and M-lady brought him to bed because we hadn't yet change the clock in his room, thinking it was time to get up in about 10 minutes. Buster poked me in the back for a few minutes before M-lady took him off to the hexagon for a while. I rose when Bud got me out of bed around 7:15.

The morning was pretty straightforward. Bud was good about getting ready for school, and he and M-lady took off around 8:15. Buster and I read stories together until Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and I started getting ready for work. Since it was already pretty warm out (time change again), Nanny J took Buster out for a walk/toddle.

Bud had a good day at school, and the kids were doing their usual running around the living room when I got home, although it was getting hard to see. M-lady arrived home a few minutes later, and we said goodbye to Nanny J. After M-lady got settled, we talked a little bit about our dinner plan.

We decided to all go out to the grocery store to get a few necessary items, including replenishing our supply of milk. On the drive to the store, we talked about generally about Thanksgiving plans. Buster got hold of a new word, 'turkey', and repeated it for a while. The kids were well behaved while shopping, and the trip went quickly. We were able to get home and get dinner in the oven in a pretty timely manner.

We watched a little bit of MNF before switching to The Wiggles while dinner cooked. Everyone ate well at dinner, and we were finished by about 7:00. Bud had a piece of Halloween candy for dessert, Buster got a piece of candy corn, and we watched a little more TV before starting the bedtime routine.

I put Buster to bed after brushing teeth, watching a couple of videos, and reading a few stories. He fell asleep pretty quickly, but has called out a few times this evening so far. Bud went to sleep after M-lady put him to bed, and has slept well. Hopefully Buster will quiet down and sleep in just a little longer tomorrow.

Face in the Soup Bowl

Buster woke really early this morning, at something like 4:30. M-lady was up with him, and slept with him for a bit in the hexagon. We switched places at about 6:30, and I read stories with him in the hexagon until about 7:30, when Bud got up. M-lady helped Bud out of bed, and I headed downstairs with the kids while M-lady headed back to bed for a little while.

The kids and I played downstairs for a bit before watching a little bit of TV. When the program was over, I got started on breakfast, making pancakes. M-lady came and joined us, and everyone had a good breakfast. After cleaning up a bit, I headed upstairs to lie down again for a while as M-lady played with the boys.

I woke again around 11:00, and after getting dressed headed downstairs with the boys again for a bit. We headed out to the garage for a while, and they ran around on the driveway and front yard while I did some work on my workbench project. Buster was slightly distressed by the noise of the drill, but got over it quickly.

We headed back inside a little after noon, and got some lunch. The kids were really hungry, and ate well. M-lady joined us for lunch, and we all sat down together for a time. As lunch was wrapping up, Buster was getting sleepier and sleepier. He actually fell asleep in his chair, still holding a piece of quesadilla and with a small grin on his face. I cleaned him up and took him up to his room for a nap.

Bud and M-lady spent some time playing together while I ran an errand, and enjoyed putting together a model of the solar system that Bud had acquired. Bud can now name all the planets in order (including Pluto), and so really enjoyed putting the model together with M-lady. They showed it to me when I arrived home.

Bud and I did some more work in the garage, and when M-lady headed out for an early evening blog-related event, Bud and I headed back inside, since Buster was still asleep. We had a nice video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, during which Buster woke and joined us.

After the chat, we had a little snack, and played together for a bit before getting started on dinner. The kids were good about dinner, and we all had a nice meal together. After dinner, we had a video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B, which both the boys participated in. They ended up getting a little rambunctious, though, and we eventually said goodnight. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and we I got the kids bathed before we had snacks and started the bedtime routine.

I read the second chapter of The Hobbit to Bud, who really seems to be enjoying the story. It's lots of fun to read. Bud didn't get to sleep until about 9:00, but both kids have slept quietly so far this evening.
