Trick Or Treating

Buster had sort of a tough night, and M-lady slept in his room until about 5:30, at which point I slept in his room with him until morning. The kids slept in a little bit this morning, which was part of our plan to stretch out the time change shock over a couple of days. Buster got up a bit after 8:00, and I was able to hand him off to M-lady and head back to bed for a little while.

M-lady and I switched places at about 9:30. Bud was dressed and had eaten breakfast, but Buster had done neither. He didn't seem too upset about not having eaten much, though. We played together in the living room for a little while before we sat down in front of the TV and watched an episode of Sesame Street. The kids really enjoyed it.

We had a snack at about 11:00, even though lunch was imminent. Buster was getting pretty hungry by then. After the snack, we played in the living room a bit more, and were soon joined by M-lady. I got started on making grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch for everyone soon after.

After a solid lunch, the boys played in the living room while I chatted on the phone with Grandma Nese and then Grandma W for a while. They were pretty well behaved, although Buster picked up and then hung up an extension, disconnecting my call at one point. The boys were also very interested in using me as a jungle gym during the call. They were generally pretty quiet, though.

After the call, I put Buster down for his nap. He zonked out pretty quickly, and I was able to spend a little time with Bud before we started getting ready for our outing. When Buster got up, we got him dressed and packed up to head to one of the Cupertino parks.

We met Nanny J and her husband there, who enjoys taking photographs. We proceeded to run around the park, trying to corral the kids into photos. Bud now has a sense for posing, and does pretty well. Buster was more interested in chasing after the geese, and would have plunged into the lake on several occasions if Bud and I hadn't stopped him.

We had fun at the park, all in all, although toward the end Buster tripped and scraped his hands up a little bit. We headed home, and after cleaning up, Bud headed out with M-lady to pick up some dinner. Buster and I watched some Sesame Street and Muppet Show YouTube videos while waiting for them to return.

We all had dinner, and afterward I finished up carving the big pumpkin. When that was ready to go, Bud and Buster got into their costumes, and we went out trick-or-treating.

Bud definitely had the idea this time, although he was pretty satisfied after hitting about 4 houses. Buster had a tendency to wander off, but was content to be carried for the second half of the outing. All in all we had a good time, and managed to get back before it got really dark.

Bud was excited to eat some candy, and Buster got a couple of bites as well. We then settled in to play a little bit of Lego Star Wars and answer the door for other trick-or-treaters. There wasn't a huge number of kids out, but we answered the door a bit. At about 8:00 we had snacks and got the kids ready for bed, with an intent to keep them up as late as possible.

I put a very tired Buster to bed around 8:45, and he passed out without any trouble. M-lady put Bud to bed around the same time. Both kids were pretty tuckered out, and have slept soundly so far this evening.

Halloween Eve

Buster was up early again this morning, and M-lady took the first shift with him. I joined him at about 6:30, and he was already dressed and reading stories in his crib. After about 10 minutes, I toted him over to the hexagon, where we read more stories and played until about 7:30.

At that point we headed out and got Bud out of bed and started getting him ready for school. It wasn't too tough to motivate him today, since he got to dress up as Obi-Wan for Halloween. We got Buster all set as Yoda, too.

We all took Bud to school, and got to see him perform some season-appropriate songs and poems with the rest of his class. Star Wars seemed to be a popular costume choice, with a Jango Fett, a Clone Trooper, a Luke Skywalker, and another Obi-Wan in attendance.

M-lady took Buster back home to Nanny J, and I headed into work. The kids apparently had a good day, and M-lady arrived home mid-afternoon. She got some work done before Nanny J took her leave a little before 5:00. I arrived home a few minutes later, and joined an ongoing lightsaber battle/football game.

We got started on dinner early, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, we watched a little bit of The Wiggles before heading out to the garage to carve pumpkins. Bud had been using a washable marker on his pumpkin, and apparently redrew the face over and over again today.

We got his pumpkin cleaned out, although I had to erase his drawing in the process. I carved a face based on his drawing and directions, though, and he was pleased with the result. Buster and M-lady joined us in the garage for a bit, but the garage currently isn't really a safe place for Buster, and he was frustrated that he couldn't get down and explore or help with the pumpkins.

Bud and I came in after cleaning up, and stripped out of our dirty clothes in the laundry room. We got into PJs, came downstairs for a snack, and then headed up to bed. We read more of The Hobbit this evening, but Bud was a little less patient with it tonight, and wanted to hear more about the dragon. I appeased him a bit by looking at pictures of Smaug on the web.

M-lady put Buster to sleep, but he's been up and down a bit this evening. Hopefully he'll settle down and sleep through the night.

Solo Slide

Buster was up pretty early, and M-lady brought him into our bed a little before 6:00. I was up a short time later finishing up a document for work, and came back to bed near 7:00. Buster was in my spot. I managed to nudge him out of the way a little, but didn't snooze much from that point on.

M-lady was kind enough to watch the kids for a bit while I slept, but needed to leave early for work. I got up and hung out with the kids from about 8:15 on. We headed downstairs and all had some oatmeal for breakfast.

Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and I was able to sleep just a little more before heading into work. The kids went to the park with Nanny J in the morning, and Buster apparently climbed the big playground gym and went down the big slide without any trepidation at all.

M-lady arrived home at 5:15, and had a good time playing with the kids while I finished up work and headed home. I picked up a couple of pumpkins on the way home: Bud already has one, but I got a big one for the family and a little one for Buster. The kids were excited to see the new pumpkins when I got home.

We drew faces on the kids pumpkins tonight, and will do the carving tomorrow. Bud used a washable marker on his, so we can wipe it off and try again. M-lady drew a happy face on Buster's little pumpkin with a more permanent pen, and Buster had fun toting his pumpkin around (and saying "Puh-kih" repeatedly) until dinnertime.

Both kids ate pretty well, and after dinner we watched a little bit more of The Wiggles until it was time for a snack and the start of bedtime.

After a snack, I got Bud into PJs, and then handed him off to M-lady, who got to read some more of The Hobbit to him. I put a very tired Buster to sleep after watching a couple of Sesame Street videos on the computer. Buster woke once a bit later, but otherwise the kids have slept well.

The Best Story

The kids were up fairly early, and we did a pretty usual morning routine. Bud was a little ahead of schedule this morning, though, and was ready to leave shortly after 8:00. I had an 8:00 conference call, so we all sat around for a little while as I listened to the call before M-lady and Bud headed for school.

Fortunately my call wrapped up pretty quickly, and I had some breakfast with Buster until Nanny J arrived. I headed to work a short time later.

I managed to arrive home a few minutes before M-lady, right at 5:15. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and played a bit of football all together. There was a lot of running around. Buster would get the ball, and repeat one of three words while running: "Hike!", "Run!", or "Tah-gul!" (Tackle!).

When everyone started getting a little tired, we cooled down by watching some Wiggles on TV. Buster can now say "Wiggle" as well. Eventually we had some dinner, although Buster didn't eat a whole lot at first.

After dinner, there was a little more TV before having a snack and getting ready for bed. Bud decided to forgo his snack, but Buster used the opportunity to actually eat his dinner. Bud and I got ready for bed, and decided to start reading The Hobbit.

Bud was really interested, and even more so when I showed him pictures on my iPhone from the web. It's great to see all the artwork which I remember from my mother's Tolkein calendars available for sharing on the web, and I was able to find some of my favorites of Bilbo and Gandalf to show him.

We got about half way through the first chapter, and we both really enjoyed it. He asked a lot of questions at first, but they slowed down as we got farther in, and he got into the swing of just listening and imagining. I'm looking forward to reading more over the coming weeks.

Constant Football

Buster was up fairly early again, and M-lady got up with him. I woke with Bud a little after 7:00. Buster was happily reading books in his crib while the rest of us got dressed before heading downstairs.

Friends C and E greeted us, had some breakfast with us, and then took their leave. Buster gave them a big goodbye wave. Nanny J arrived at 8:45, after the kids had finished up breakfast and were busy playing football again. I headed for work a short time later.

The kids were apparently still playing football when I got home around 5:00. Both were happy, and we played some more with Nanny J before she left. Then we played more after she left. Eventually I got a bit winded, and suggested we watch a little bit of TV before dinner.

Bud has been clamoring about The Wiggles recently, so we watched them on Netflix instant download. Bud enjoyed as expected, and Buster had a good time watching as well. He identified just about every animal on the show as a dog, though. The goat, the camel, the wombat, the koala, and the kangaroo were all dogs. The cockatoo was identified as a bird, though, so that was good.

After watching a bit, we got started on dinner. Both kids ate well, and M-lady arrived home as we were finishing up. After dinner, we all watched a little bit of Pingu (also Netflix) before starting to get ready for bed.

Both kids had a snack and then headed for bed. M-lady put Bud to bed, and I put Buster down. He was in bed shortly after 8:00, and fell asleep pretty quickly. Both kids have slept quietly so far this evening.

Playing With Guests

Buster woke this morning around 6:30, and I went into his room to see if I could convince him to go back to sleep. I wasn't able to, so we got up and got him into a clean diaper before joining M-lady and Bud, who woke around 7:00.

M-lady had to head into work a bit early, but was able to help get Bud dressed. I got the boys downstairs and had some breakfast, and we got ready to head to school. Nanny J arrived early, around 8:15, and Bud and I headed out.

The school drop off went fine. The kids apparently had a good day, and were happily running around when I arrived home at about 5:00. Both kids were wearing their football jerseys. After dropping my things, we said goodbye to Nanny J and started getting ready to entertain Friends C and E, who would be arriving shortly.

M-lady got home by 5:30, and I was able to get started on dinner. M-lady gave the kids a very soft football which she'd picked up the night before, and the kids had a great time playing with it, although sharing appropriately became a little bit of an issue. When Friends C and E arrived at about 6:00, Bud headed upstairs for a few minutes before feeling comfortable enough to come down. Buster seemed to do just fine.

We all had a good dinner, and there was much lightsaber fighting after dinner. We had fun in the living room, with everyone taking part in the battle. There was a fair amount of football played as well, and Friend C drafted a play for Bud which he didn't entirely execute, but had fun learning.

The kids were pretty tired out by the time we had a quick snack and headed up to bed. M-lady was able to put Bud down pretty quickly, but Buster wanted company while he was falling asleep. He eventually was out before 9:00. Both kids have slept quietly since then.

I was really happy with how well both kids behaved all evening, letting us chat with our friends, but also having fun playing with the guests. We all had a fun time.

More Words

Bud was up this morning at about 7:00, and I got up with him. We chilled in his room about about half an hour before heading downstairs to get some breakfast. Buster joined us a short time later, and after breakfast was progressing, M-lady came down and offered to let me go back to bed for a little while, so I did just that.

M-lady got the kids dressed and played with them for the morning. They apparently had a very good time. The rolled me out of bed a little after 10:00, with kids jumping on the bed with me to see how I was doing.

M-lady headed off to run some errands a short time later, and after I got dressed and ready to go, I loaded up the kids and we headed off to the grocery store. They were great at the store. Bud stuck close to the cart, and Buster was content to ride along and name everything he recognized in the produce aisle ("Apple! 'Nana! Brokly!")

When we arrived home, I got the kids out of the car and unloaded the groceries. Buster started unloading bags as soon as we got in the door. Once the car had been unloaded, I took Buster's shoes off for him, and he offered the first distinct two-word phrases I've heard from him: "One shoe. Two shoe."

We got groceries unloaded as I put together some lunch for the kids. Buster ate a big lunch, including half of mine. After eating, we had a nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B. Both kids were involved, and enjoyed interacting with the grandparents. Eventually Buster was showing signs of fatigue, so we signed off and I put Buster down for a nap. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Bud and I played on the computer together for a little while before Buster woke. He had only slept for about 40 minutes or so, and had a poopy diaper. I changed him and hoped he'd fall back to sleep, but no luck. We had some quiet time, though. M-lady arrived home a short time later, so Bud played with her.

I did some work in the garage with Bud in the later afternoon, and M-lady and Buster joined us after a bit. We played on the lawn for a little while, and eventually headed back in to start thinking about dinner. I ended up going out to pick up sushi, which was very popular with everyone. Buster is still a little sushi monster.

I took Buster into the shower immediately after dinner to get the rice off his face and hands, and Bud showered with me after Buster was cleaned up. After getting Bud and myself into PJs, we watched a little bit of the evening football game before having small ice cream cones and getting ready for bed.

I put Bud to bed this evening, turning out the light after a story at about 8:15. He fell asleep pretty quickly, after a long day. Buster woke a few times in the evening, but went to sleep again quickly with some shushing.

A Very Busy Day

Bud got me up this morning shortly after 7:00, and we hung out in his room for a few minutes before heading downstairs for breakfast. Buster woke a short time later, and M-lady got up with him, bringing him downstairs for breakfast a few minutes later.

I took the opportunity to go back to bed for a little while, and M-lady had a good time playing with the kids. She handed them off to me a little before 10:00, and I let her snooze while I played with the boys. Bud was already dressed, and we headed into the office to play games on the computer together for a little while before heading downstairs for a snack. The kids each at half a bagel. After munching, we played in the playroom a bit before they pulled out the Elefun. Bud's had this for a while, but it was a bit frustrating for him the last time he played it. I convinced him to try again, and he had a great time (after I put fresh batteries in). Buster had a good time, too.

When M-lady joined us again, we really started moving. Buster and I got dressed, and I made some lunch for the crew. After lunch, we loaded up in the car and headed over to a dance studio to rehearse the quadrille we've been putting together for some friends. M-lady and I were fairly occupied for an hour, and the kids did a great job of entertaining themselves. Bud mostly watched the proceedings, and Buster galavanted about, eventually finding some remotes and playing with those for about half and hour.

We came back home for a snack and a change of clothes, and then headed out to the memorial service for Friend B. The kids were really well behaved as we caught up with old friends and reminisced about B. Bud stayed pretty close, and Buster was willing to be held for a while. Eventually Buster got a little antsy, and took off out of the room and down the hall when let loose on the floor. M-lady and I took turns chasing him. Both kids were good for the entire stay, though.

We headed home, picking up some dinner on the way. After dinner, M-lady got the kids into PJs, and then we had some ice cream cones for dessert. Bud had his own, and I shared one with Buster. Buser managed to nap about 20 minutes today in the car, so I expected him to fall asleep pretty quickly. I put him down right around 8:00, and he was asleep a few minutes later. M-lady put Bud to bed, and he fell asleep on his own pretty quickly.

M-lady and I had another event to attend in the later evening, so Babysitter G arrived at about 8:00. Apparently Buster woke around 9:30, and cried for a bit. When Babysitter G went to comfort him, he cried even harder, since he hadn't been prepared to see her. She took him out of his crib, and he ran off and cried in the bathroom for a little while. She eventually asked him if he wanted to go back to bed. He responded in the affirmative, and he went right back to sleep when she put him in his crib. Buster really is much more outgoing than Bud was at his age, so we should start acclimatizing Buster to Babysitter G.

Rehearsal

The kids slept in a little bit more today, which was nice. I got up with Bud around 7:30, and started getting him ready for school. Buster woke a short time later, and I helped out getting him into a clean diaper before herding Bud downstairs for breakfast.

After Bud and M-lady headed off for school, Buster and I hung out together in the hexagon until Nanny J arrived. Buster was happy to see her and have some breakfast while I got ready to go to work.

I arrived home a bit early today, around 4:30, and headed upstairs to sign on to work to wrap up the day. Bud came with me, and played 'Elmo Games' on the computer while I worked. I was able to wrap up right around 5:15, when M-lady arrived home and Nanny J took off.

After M-lady had a chance to settle in, I headed out to pick up a pizza for dinner. Bud declined to come with me, as he was dressing up like Darth Maul with M-lady. They were all happy to join me for pizza when I returned a bit later.

After dinner, I played and read stories with Buster in the playroom while M-lady and Bud played in the living room. Apparently Bud had them recreate all the scenes from Star Wars Episode I in a 'rehearsal'. They were at it for about half an hour or so before they came to join us for a bit.

We watched a little bit of TV, catching some more specials, before it was time for bed. Bud had a bit of a meltdown at bedtime, and the bedtime routine wasn't any fun. He was clearly pretty tired, though, and fell asleep on his own fairly quickly.

Buster was well behaved all night, and I had a good time playing with him after dinner. He's getting more and more words, pointing out 'frogs' to me in a book. I pointed to a tadpole and said the word, and he gave it a shot: 'ta-po'. Bud is learning quite a bit as well, and apparently spent a good amount of time today writing letters on an ever increasing piece of art. He now can write his full name pretty competently, and consequently all the art coming back from school now has his full name on the back.

Another Fan

Buster was up a bit early, and M-lady got up with him around 6:00. I got up with Bud around 7:00. It was a pretty standard morning, though, with Nanny J arriving around 8:45, and the cleaners arriving a short time later.

Buster apparently found his football jersey after he was dressed, and brought it to M-lady, saying, "F'ball!" He wore the jersey all day, and pointed out that he was wearing it with the same exclamation to me several times during the evening.

M-lady got home first today, and I arrived closer to 6:00. We had some dinner shortly after I got home, and the kids ate pretty well. After dinner, we watched some more Star Wars Episode I specials before getting ready for bed. Bud went to bed well, although Buster fussed a little bit before falling asleep.

School Day for Mommy

The morning was fairly straightforward this morning, with M-lady handling Bud and me handling Buster. Today was Bud's turn to have a parent observer/helper in the class, so M-lady headed off with Bud to school.

M-lady got to see the kids present the animal alphabet letter sounds they've been working on, as well as see Bud lead the class in the pledge of allegiance. Today also happened to be the 'pumpkin patch' day, so M-lady accompanied the kids to the pumpkin patch, where each got to choose a pumpkin.

M-lady reported that Bud did well in class, and managed to accomplish the art project without getting much paint on himself.

The kids had a good rest of the day with Nanny J, and I arrived home a little after 5:00 to take over. The kids and I had a small scale lightsaber fight before M-lady arrived home. After a bit, we got dinner going.

The kids ate pretty well, although Buster was grumpy when dinner started for unknown reasons. He may have just run out of gas. After dinner, Bud requested that we watch the making of featurettes for Star Wars Episode I, much to M-lady's delight. After a snack, we did a standard bedtime.

The kids got a little riled up at bedtime, chasing each other around upstairs and giggling up a storm. I managed to get Bud into bed around 8:00, though, and the lights were out by about 8:15. Bud fell asleep pretty quickly after his long day. Buster apparently also fell asleep without much fuss, and both kids have slept soundly so far.

More Football

Buster woke at about 5:30 this morning, and I put him in one of his sleep sacks. He proceeded to sleep until about 8:00, which was great. M-lady got up with Bud at about 7:30, and a fairly standard morning routine (albeit with a later rising Buster) ensued.

Nanny J arrived at 8:45, and M-lady and I departed soon afterward. The kids apparently had a pretty good day, and were in good spirits when I arrived home a little after 5:00. Bud had his football jersey on again, and was playing football. After I settled and we said goodbye to Nanny J, all three of us played football together. Buster ran around with a ball saying, "Hike! Hike! Hike!"

After we ran ourselves out, we sat in front of the TV for a little while before starting on dinner. Bud was a little disappointed that the Chargers weren't playing. The kids ate a pretty decent dinner, and we were wrapping up when M-lady arrived home from work.

After dinner Bud requested Star Wars Episode I, so we watched some of that before having a snack and doing the bedtime routine.

M-lady put Bud to bed, and I put Buster to sleep. Both kids slept pretty well, although I accidentally woke Bud by watching a movie a little too loud later in the evening. He went right back to sleep, though.

Football Night

Buster woke really early this morning, around 5:30 or so. M-lady got up with him first, and handed him off to me a little after 6:00. I don't think he went back to sleep, although I was able to snooze a little bit in his room with him, and then in the hexagon.

Bud joined us around 7:30, and I got M-lady up at that point. It was sort of a frantic morning getting Bud ready for school, but M-lady finally got out the door with him in time to get to school. Buster and I finished up his breakfast (mostly raisins, at his request, with some cereal), and played together a little bit before Nanny J arrived. I got myself ready and headed off for work.

The kids seem to have had a good day. Buster was pretty happy when I got home which suggested that he had a solid nap, having woken up so early. Bud actually came running out of the house when I pulled into the driveway, and ran around the car a few times as I unloaded my things. We headed inside, I got settled, and we said goodbye to Nanny J.

After a chat with Grandma W, Bud and I played some Lego Indiana Jones as Buster looked on. Buster seems to have generally gotten over his fear of the Lego cutscenes with the giant minifigs, which is good. After playing for a bit, I got dinner started cooking, and then headed upstairs and grabbed our football jerseys. We all have Chargers jerseys now, and Buster and I donned ours to watch the game.

Bud was a bit reluctant, and got a bit upset when I turned off his game to watch football. But he cooled off and came back downstairs with his jersey on, and then really enjoyed watching football with us.

We were wrapping up dinner when M-lady arrived. After eating, we all played 'football' in the living room. This mostly involved running around, with and without a ball, and occasionally tackling each other. We all had a good time, although Bud got a little wound up.

It was a bit tough calming him down for bedtime, and we ended up staying up a bit late. We got the light turned out around 8:45 or so, and Bud was asleep a short time later. Buster fell asleep a bit before that, and both kids have slept soundly.

One More Raisin

I got up with Buster around 6:15, and got him to go back to sleep for about 5 minutes. When he woke the second time, M-lady got up and soothed him for a bit.

Bud rolled me out of bed around 7:00, and I tried unsuccessfully to get him to get back in bed for a while. He went and found M-lady, though, and she took the kids downstairs for breakfast while I snoozed a bit longer.

I got up around 9:30ish, when M-lady started getting ready to head off to her ballet class. Bud was happily playing with Lego, and I took Buster downstairs to play in the playroom for a bit. After a while, I decided that we really did need to go to the grocery store, so I motivated Bud to get himself dressed, and got Buster dressed, and we packed up and headed out.

Both kids were great at the grocery store, and we picked up the couple of essentials we needed and came back home. When we got home, after getting the milk in the fridge, we had a very nice video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese. Both kids were very interactive, and Buster said a few words that they were able to understand (including 'turtle', indicating a picture of a turtle in the book he was looking at).

The kids eventually lost interest in the chat, and we said our goodbyes and started looking into lunch possibilities. M-lady arrived home as we were eating lunch, and headed upstairs to clean up as the boys finished eating.

As we were wrapping up lunch, the first of the dancers arrived. We had another rehearsal at our place this afternoon. Bud spent most of the time upstairs, out of the way, but did watch the proceedings and say hello to folks. Buster ran around on the floor, occasionally getting in the way of the dancing. His best move was grabbing my legs from behind just as I was about to start into a figure.

Buster got pretty tired, and I put him down for a nap around 2:30. The dancers took their leave around 3:00, and I took the opportunity to work in the garage for a bit. Bud joined me for a little while, and did what he could to help out. We eventually came in around the time we started thinking about dinner.

Bud and I played a little bit of Wii Sports Resort, and Bud was keen to try some of the new sports. He did remarkably well at table tennis. We turned the TV off to get some dinner, which M-lady prepared. Both kids ate pretty well, and after dinner I took Buster upstairs for a shower, which he was really excited about.

After getting Buster clean, we started on the bedtime routine with snacks. Buster was pretty excited about the raisins before bed, and asked for just one more a whole bunch of times. M-lady eventually got him into bed, and I put Bud to bed. Both kids were a little bit restless going to sleep, but were out by 9:00.

On The Road

Buster was up a little early this morning, and M-lady fielded him. Bud was up closer to 8:00, and we had a fairly standard morning. Both kids showed no signs of having felt bad the previous night. M-lady packed some stuff up for herself and Bud, and they took off to hit Gilroy Gardens, along with friends from the Mommy Group. Buster and I played at home for a bit, watching some Sesame Street before getting ourselves ready.

At about 10:00, I started getting dressed and packing up to go for a bike ride, pulling Buster in the trailer. I'd taken him out for some short rides before, but this was to be the longest ride he'd been on (still short, but longer). It took longer to get everything set, but he was tucked into the trailer and we were on the road by about 11:00.

Buster seemed fine with the whole arrangement except for the helmet, which kept slipping down over his face. He eventually fell asleep, though, and napped through the majority of the ride. I think I'll be able to do longer rides with him in the future, though.

When we got home, we had some lunch, and watched a little TV before I tried to put him down for a nap. He'd slept about 45-60 minutes in the trailer, and I was hoping he'd snooze a little more. After some quiet time, where he didn't sleep, we got up, and I packed up into the car to head out to the bike shop.

Buster was great at the shop, very interested in the racks of bikes. I picked up some consumables, and we headed home to find a very happy M-lady and Bud, who'd had a great time at the park.

The rest of the evening was pretty peaceful, with some TV, some dinner, and some Wii sword fighting. I got Bud showered before bed as M-lady fed Buster a snack, and then I put Buster to bed. He passed out pretty quickly... I think he could have used the extra afternoon nap. Bud went to sleep a short time later.

Eighteen Month Report Card

Buster was up a little early this morning, and Bud slept in a little. It was a slower-than-usual Friday morning, though, since we were taking Buster to his doctor appointment rather than running off to work, and Bud didn't have school. So after getting all set, we packed up into the car and headed out around 9:00 in two cars, so I could head straight in to work after the appointment.

When we arrived at the doctor's office, we were able to get into a checkup room and get the appointment rolling almost immediately, which was nice. Buster didn't scream on the scale as he has in the past, and was generally cautious, but not hostile or freaking out. He maintained that attitude all through the checkup.

He was deemed right on target, with weight, height, and head circumference all projecting normally, and generally healthy and developmentally on track. Bud was pretty nervous about Buster getting shots, though, so M-lady ushered him outside while I held Buster for the three shots he was getting.

Buster didn't even complain about the first shot. The second and third got him whimpering a little bit, but not screaming. He was fine about 30 seconds later. No excessive drama.

The kids headed home with M-lady, where they met Nanny J. They apparently had a good day, although Bud started feeling a little under the weather after his bath. We consequently had a pretty low-key evening, watching the last episode of Fraggle Rock before getting ready for bed. Both kids went to sleep without much problem.

Crash Day

Buster was apparently up pretty early this morning, and M-lady was up and down with him a bit. I got up around 7:30, and took Buster to hang out in the hexagon with me while M-lady headed into the office a bit early. He had an early breakfast, right around 8:00, and we were playing upstairs again when Bud finally got up, around 8:30. Bud had probably slept in a bit since he'd gotten to sleep a bit late the night before.

We headed downstairs to greet Nanny J when she arrived, and I headed for work a short time later. Bud seems to have had a good day, but Buster had a bit of a runny nose, was a bit fussy, and fell down a lot. He didn't do any significant damage to himself, but he apparently pitched over and bumped his head a number of times. This might have been due to fatigue. Buster was apparently happier after a long afternoon nap.

M-lady got home in time to take the kids, and I arrived home a bit after 5:30. I played a bit with the kids in the living room, and after Buster fell down once, we headed into the playroom to check out the new Wii game I picked up yesterday, Sports Resort. Bud was particularly interested in the fencing game, and we had a lot of fun smacking each other with virtual swords. M-lady got in on it too, enjoying the 'speed slicing' game. We played until dinner time.

Both kids ate well, and after dinner we all played a bit more Wii before having a snack and heading for bed. I took charge of Buster, who was a bit fussy going to bed. He finally calmed down when I actually set him in his crib, and fell asleep pretty quickly. Hopefully he'll sleep well and later into the morning tomorrow.

A Class Pizza Night

Bud was up around 7:30 this morning, and after he got up and got dressed, was willing to entertain himself for a bit before I got up and got him some breakfast, while M-lady got ready for work and entertained Buster for a bit. I took Buster as M-lady took Bud to school.

Buster and I read stories and played in the hexagon until a bit after 8:30, at which point we got him some breakfast. He was still munching when Nanny J arrived, and I got ready for work and headed off.

Bud had a good time at school, and M-lady got the kids from Nanny J shortly after 5:00. I was running errands on the way home, and ended up meeting the family at a local pizza shop which was having a fund raiser for Bud's school. We ordered a pizza and managed to get a table in the fairly busy place, loaded with kids.

We met some of Bud's classmates and family members, as well as one of Bud's teachers. Bud was pretty engaging, which was nice, and Buster was cute. We all enjoyed the pizza, and headed home fed and happy.

I took a few minutes when we got home to clean up a tree branch which had fallen in the storm yesterday, and Bud offered to help. Buster played with a broom until it was time to go inside, at which point he was pretty disappointed. But we headed in, had some popcorn for a snack, and got the bedtime routine going.

Both kids went to bed without too much trouble, although Bud wasn't very sleepy when the light went out. He fell asleep around 9:00ish. Both kids have slept quietly so far this evening.

Rainy Day

Bud woke around 7:00 this morning, but I was able to convince him to go back to bed with me for about forty-five minutes. We got up, and started getting ready for the day. Buster and M-lady got up around then as well, and I got Buster into a clean diaper before getting myself ready and heading off to work a little early.

The rain really came down today, so the kids didn't get to play outside. They seem to have had a pretty good day indoors, though. I came home at a bit after 5:00, and apparently Buster slipped and smacked his forehead on the hardwood floor on his way to greet me. He didn't get upset, though, even though he had a big knot start swelling up on his head. He just got up and ran over to me to say, "Hi."

After Nanny J left, the kids and I played 'football' in the living room. Bud had Buster and I on one team, and he was on the other. Then we ran around in circles, occasionally crashing into each other and falling down and laughing. It was a pretty good time.

After getting a little winded, we settled down in front of the TV for a short time before M-lady arrived home. When she got in, we started on dinner. Buster ate pretty well, and Bud deferred most of his dinner. After dinner, we played some Rock Band together. Bud did really well on the drums. When M-lady took a turn on the drums, Buster muscled in on the game and appropriated her drumsticks, then started banging on the kit with them.

Bud finished his dinner at snacktime, and the bedtime routine was pretty standard. M-lady put Buster to bed, and I had Bud in bed with the lights out at about 8:15. He fell asleep pretty quickly after that. Both kids have slept quietly this evening.

Fence Maintenance

Bud and Buster were up this morning around 7:30ish, and M-lady got up with them. I joined them a bit before 8:00, and helped Bud get dressed and ready for school. He left with M-lady at about 8:30, and I got some breakfast for Buster.

When Buster started getting mobile, we put a fence in the playroom which cordoned off the entertainment center and Bud's toys. Anything Bud wanted to protect, he'd throw over the fence. Bud didn't have any problems getting over the fence, but Buster wasn't able to negotiate it until just recently.

Buster can now get over the fence by climbing the couch. His problem is that he can't get back. So he goes over, grabs the toy he's interested in, and then call for help to get back out.

So last night I modified the path of the fence, just enclosing the media center, and exposing Bud's toys. I gave Bud a heads up about the change this morning, and Buster was really excited when he saw that the fence was gone.

Bud had a good day at school, and then in the afternoon he and Nanny J cleaned up his toys, so the ones he didn't want Buster to get at were put away and less accessible. Both kids had baths in the afternoon, and were playing happily in the living room when I arrived home.

We roughhoused a little bit after Nanny J left, and then sat down in front of the TV to watch some Good Eats before MNF came on. M-lady arrived home as we were getting some dinner. Bud was really interested in the football game, and kept going to watch it (we left it on in the other room during dinner), and then wanted M-lady or I to watch with him. I look forward to watching football with him in the future.

The bedtime routine was pretty standard, with M-lady helping Bud to bed as I took care of Buster. He was pretty tired, and went to sleep fairly easily. Both kids have slept quietly.

Dinner Party

M-lady and I got to bed too late, and we were both pretty tired in the morning. Buster got up early, and M-lady handed him off to me a bit after 7:30. I played with him in the hexagon for a while, while Bud was up and playing with Lego. We eventually got some breakfast, and I was able to trade with M-lady again, getting a little more sleep while she played with the boys a bit.

M-lady headed off to catch an 11:30 ballet class, and the kids and I loaded up and headed off to Fry's for a quick outing. We listened to music from the Star Wars movies in the car, which delighted both kids. They were well behaved at Fry's, which was nice.

After getting a couple of items, we came home to have lunch. Lunch took a long time today. Buster grazed for a bit, asking for an apple, having a couple bites, then asking for a banana, etc. Bud decided he wasn't hungry at first, eventually eating sometime after 2:00. They both got fed, but it took a while. M-lady arrived home around the time we were wrapping up lunch.

Buster took a nap straight after lunch, and had a good long sleep. While he was snoozing, Bud and I did some work together in the office, before starting a quick video game with Cousin H. Buster ran into the room as soon as he heard the TV playing Star Wars music. He enjoyed watching the game, and thought the characters jumping and flipping was particularly funny.

After we wrapped up the game, we loaded up the kids and drove over to Friends R and T's house, where T had made pizzas for dinner (yum). Both kids behaved really well during the evening, both engaging our guests and entertaining themselves occasionally. Both kids ate well, and we all had a very enjoyable evening. It was around 8:00 when we left, and the kids were pretty tired when we got home, although neither had fallen asleep in the car.

M-lady put Buster to bed, and I worked on getting Bud to bed. He was in bed a little late, with the lights out near 9:00, but fell asleep pretty quickly. Buster was a little restless in the early evening, but seems to have settled down a bit since then.

Lots of Outings

We got up a little before 8:00. I discovered M-lady was already up, having worked most of the night. She helped me get the boys up and going, and then headed off to bed for a nap.

We had a good breakfast (oatmeal again), and then played a little bit before waking M-lady to get ready for the first outing of the day. When everyone was set, we loaded up and headed off to the Jungle for a workout. Buster immediately got into the spirit by crawling into the ball pit, and Bud, who had initially planned on just watching Buster, also had a good time. Bud wanted someone to go with him, though, so M-lady and I took turns climbing through the play structure with him. We all had a pretty good time. Buster managed to get the first of his two balloons of the day there, so he was pretty happy, too.

We left at about 11:30, and headed home to get some lunch. After we'd eaten, Bud got all dressed up in his Jedi finest, and M-lady gave him a gift she'd been saving: a pair of boots for the Jedi costume. Bud loved them, and after he was all set, we packed up to head out to a book release event: the Star Wars Lego Visual Dictionary. The event was to start at 2:00, and we weren't sure how many folks would show up.

We got there about an hour early, and were the first ones there, by a long shot. We did get to chat with the organizers a little bit, though, and watch as they got Lego displays set up. They all complemented Bud on his outfit. When everyone else did show up, closer to 2:00, we didn't have to struggle with the crowds.

At 2:00, there were some special guests: a Rebel Soldier, a (somewhat short) Storm Trooper, and a Scout Trooper. Bud was willing to shake hands with them, but didn't want to get his picture taken. They complemented him on his Jedi outfit, though.

We headed back home, and were able to rest for a short time and have a video chat with Ama and Agu before we loaded up again to go to an early dinner at Red Robin at Bud's request. We had a nice dinner, Buster got his second balloon, and we gave both kids showers when we got home. M-lady headed out in the early evening to go help a friend for a bit, and I did the bedtime routine with the kiddos. It went pretty smoothly, and M-lady arrived home just in time to say goodnight to Bud. Both kids slept pretty well.

Lemming Tendency

Bud was up around 7:45 or so, and Buster soon afterward. M-lady did the first handling of the kids, and I got up a short time later to get breakfast for Bud, and then take care of Buster for a bit wile M-lady took Bud to school.

Buster and I played in the living room for a short time before he requested some oatmeal for breakfast. Nanny J arrived a short time after he'd finished eating, and he was willing to let me head back upstairs to get started on work. Since I'd felt a little sick last night, I decided not to expose my coworkers to potential illness and worked from home today.

Buster and Nanny J headed off to the park in the later morning, and then picked Bud up from school, bringing him home for lunch. I grabbed some lunch shortly after they'd eaten, and both kids were very interested in the pretzels I had with my lunch. After doling out a few, I headed back upstairs with Bud trailing me.

He played quietly in the room while I was on a couple of calls, and then played games on SesameStreet.com for a bit while I wrapped up my work. We played a game together for a short time before I headed off to take a nap and Bud went to play with Nanny J and Buster.

I woke shortly after Nanny J's usual departure time, and relieved her a few minutes late. Bud and Buster and I played in the living room for a little while. Buster sat on my lap at one point while I was sitting on the floor, and I bounced him, humming the 'Ride a Little Pony' rhyme. At the end of the rhyme, Buster exclaimed, "down!", and flung himself backwards off my lap. Then he crawled back up for a repeat. He really likes that part of 'Ride a Little Pony'.

We watched a little bit of TV before M-lady arrived home and prepared dinner, which was very nice of her. Everyone ate well, and after dinner we had a nice long video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B. The kids interacted very well, and Buster showed off some of his new words, identifying pictures in a book they showed to him, and pointing out various facial features. Bud got to show of some of his recent coloring.

We wrapped up the call and had a snack before starting on the bedtime routine. M-lady and I tag-teamed a little bit, each doing part of the routine with different kids. I ended up reading Bud his story before bed, and we turned the lights out around 8:15. Bud fell asleep pretty quickly. Both kids have slept quietly so far.

Reading

Bud rolled me out of bed once at about 5:30, but went back to sleep pretty quickly once he got settled again. He then woke me a bit before 7:30, and climbed into bed with M-lady and I for a few minutes before I got up to get him some breakfast. Buster woke a couple minutes later.

M-lady got the kids breakfast this morning, and headed for work soon after Nanny J arrived. I took off for work a short time later. The kids apparently had a good time at the park in the later morning. Buster is becoming more and more fearless and determined to overcome all obstacles. He'll climb anything he can reach at the park, apparently.

I arrived home around 5:00, and the kids were having a good time. I had a bit of a headache, so we played a little more quietly than usual, and ended up watching some of Riverdance before M-lady arrived home.

Both kids ate well at dinner, which was nice. After dinner I read some of Bud's BOB books with him. He's doing pretty well with the reading, but we need to be practicing more. Unfortunately, his memory is really good, so it can be hard to figure out which words he's reading and which ones he just recognizes.

I apparently had a slight fever later in the day, and decided to head for bed around 7:00. M-lady took care of the kids and got them into bed herself, which was really nice. Bud came in to say goodnight to me, apparently, but I was only partly conscious. Buster also came over to set my alarm for me.

I'm sorry I missed the end of the evening with the kids, but I'm looking forward to spending time with them this weekend.

Games and Lizard

I ended up working at the office for most of the night, but everyone was still asleep when I arrived home a little before 7:00. Bud woke me at about 7:30, but M-lady, who also didn't get a lot of sleep, was willing to watch the kids for a bit.

I rose around 8:00 and helped corral kids and get Bud pointed toward the door to head for school. After he left with M-lady, Buster and I hung out for a bit. We looked at the Chinese/English picture book, essentially a simple visual dictionary, which is right up his alley right now. Most of the fruit looked like apples to him, though.

He again requested oatmeal for breakfast, and after a minor protest, was willing to let me spoon it to him. He's learning how to use a spoon, but I wasn't ready to clean oatmeal up from all over the kitchen. Nanny J arrived while Buster was eating some Cheerios to supplement the oatmeal.

I worked from home for most of the day, and Bud discovered me in our home office shortly after lunch. He played alongside me for a while, and a little later in the afternoon I set him up to play online games on SesameStreet.com. He's got a good handle on the online games, and really enjoys them. I think some of them aren't particularly challenging, but he's definitely working on his mousing and hand-eye coordination.

He was a bit disappointed to have to stop playing when I headed out to a late afternoon work celebration, but went downstairs to see what Nanny J and Buster were up to. They all seemed to be having fun when I left at about 4:00. M-lady arrived home in time to take the kids from Nanny J, and they apparently had a pretty good evening. She fed them dinner, and they were wrapping up when I arrived home around 7:00.

As I came in the door, I noticed a pretty good sized lizard hanging out just outside the door. I called Bud over, and we took a look before heading in. Bud was curious why the lizard was there, and I theorized that he was looking for heat, since the temperature has dropped a little bit the past few days.

We watched a little bit of Riverdance (well, they watched, I passed out on the couch for 30 minutes) before starting on snacks and the bedtime routine. Bud was pretty good about going to bed, and went to sleep on the early end of 8:00 after I read him a story. Buster apparently went to sleep easily as well.

Foods of Interest

While getting breakfast for the kids this morning, Buster pointed at Bud's oatmeal, indicating that he'd like that for breakfast. I offered him some, and he loved it. So he had a full serving of oatmeal, plus some more cereal and milk for breakfast.

Nanny J arrived at the usual time, and M-lady and I headed off to work. The kids headed to the park in the morning, and generally had a good day. They were happy to see me when I got home around 5:00 and relieved Nanny J.

The kids and I had a pretty mellow evening. We played in the living room a bit, read some stories, and watched an episode of Fraggle Rock before getting started on dinner. Nanny J had prepared the barley stew recipe, and the kids seemed eager to have some.

Both kids ended up eating well, but it was a sort of difficult dinner. They both really like the stew, but not the beef in it. Just the vegetables. Hmmm. Buster would carefully take any bits of beef out of his mouth after eating a spoonful. Bud tried to eat the beef, but seemed to have trouble with the texture.

Buster has really been wanting to feed himself, so eating the stew was a little tricky. I helped him spoon most of it up, but it still made a pretty good mess (particularly with him stopping to pull food out of his mouth occasionally). He would get upset if I just tried to feed him directly, though.

M-lady arrived home shortly after dinner, and we got started on the bedtime routine. Both kids were fairly easy to put to bed, and Buster passed out quickly.

Playing Football

Buster slept in this morning until nearly 7:30, and Bud woke a few minutes later. M-lady and I got up to take care of the kids, who were generally cooperative. M-lady took Bud to school after he was dressed and fed, and I hung out with Buster and worked on getting him some breakfast.

At first Buster seemed to want a waffle, but wasn't really interested in it when it came out of the toaster. He eventually started nibbling on it, though, around the time Nanny J arrived.

I headed off to work a short time later, and Buster saw me out the door. Bud apparently had a good day at school, and the kids were happily playing when I got home from work around 5:00. Bud came to see me first, swinging a drumstick like a lightsaber, and Buster came trotting in after him.

I had a chance to settle in before Nanny J took her leave, and the boys and I played for a little bit before we watched a little bit of TV. M-lady arrived a short time later, and we got started on dinner.

The boys were a little finicky at dinner, but both got fed reasonably well. After dinner Bud wanted to play 'football'. He's started watching and trying to learn the game, but it is fairly complex. For now, he says he's on one team, and I'm on the other, and we choose who's on offense and who's on defense. He knows that the team on offense gets the ball. Then the person on defense tackles the person on offense, after some running around. Buster likes to run around and jump in on the tackles as well.

After getting a bit worked up, we all settled down in front of the TV, watching short documentary specials on the making of Star Wars Episode I. Then it was time for snacks (the kids loaded up on grapes) and the bedtime routine. I put Buster in footy pajamas for the first time of the season. He was a little concerned as I put his feet in, but seemed comfortable once he got zipped up. M-lady didn't seem to have any difficulty getting Bud into bed, and they had a nice chat together after the lights were out. Both kids have slept quietly so far.

To The Store

Bud rolled me out of bed around 6:30 this morning, but was willing to crawl into his bed with me until about 7:30. By that time, M-lady was up with Buster, and the morning routine got started.

After getting some breakfast and getting started on playtime, M-lady headed out to attend a ballet class. Shortly after she left, I got started on getting the kids out the door to go to the grocery store. It didn't take too much convincing, and the kids had a good time playing in the front yard while I re-installed their car seats in my car.

We had a good time at the grocery store, although Buster got a little antsy at times since he had to sit in the cart, and he wanted to run around a bit. I was able to distract him by handing him items as we picked them up, which he examined before depositing in the cart.

We headed inside when we got home, and the kids helped me unload the groceries. The kids were clearly getting a little hungry by the time we got that chore wrapped up, so I got started on preparing lunch. Both kids ate pretty well, and we were cleaned up and playing again by about noon.

Buster was starting to show signs of fatigue (perhaps due to the big meal), and so I tried to get him to take a nap around 12:30. M-lady arrived home a short time later, and as Buster was showing no signs of napping, we got up. A few minutes later some guests arrived for a dance rehearsal that M-lady and I were holding, which was far more exciting than taking a nap.

The kids were great while we ran rehearsal. Bud generally watched from the wings, and Buster wandered through the set as we danced, or asked for M-lady or me to hold him. But neither fussed at all, which was awesome. They were model kids for two hours. Bud got some praise from the dancers for drumming on his table with his hands in time to the music, and Buster drew praise for being cute.

The rehearsal wrapped around 3:00ish, and Buster was exhausted. I was able to put him down for a nap really quickly. M-lady took the opportunity to head to the mall, and Bud and I sat down to watch some of Star Wars Episode I.

Bud was a bit fussy after we turned off the movie, but cleared up after a few minutes. We played on the computer together for a little while, and I started wondering when Buster was going to wake up. Bud and I rousted him after he'd slept for about two and a half hours.

Both kids were getting cranky because they were hungry, so I got started on dinner. Unfortunately, neither child particularly liked the food I prepared. M-lady arrived home as we were eating, though, and helped manage dinner and get the kids fed.

After dinner I played with a flashlight with Bud for a little while before hitting on the idea of suggesting we play Rock Band again. I was inspired by Bud's drumming on the table. Bud was interested, and the whole family had a good time playing together. After we wrapped up, and Bud was getting a snack, Buster found the drumsticks and sat down to play a bit on the drums as well.

The bedtime routine was pretty standard for Bud, but Buster took a long time to fall asleep. Not terribly surprising, given his long nap.

Missing a dear friend today... I'll miss you, Biff.

Crunchy Rocks

I had a bike ride to day up in Santa Rosa, so I left the house around 4:00am, while everyone was still asleep. M-lady was wonderful enough to take care of hte kids until I got home around 3:00pm.

The kids woke a little before 7:00, and the usual morning routine ensued. M-lady got them ready and headed out toward Stanford at about 9:00, with a stop along the way at a bakery to pick up some Moon Cakes (in celebration of the Moon Festival). They met Aunt O and Cousin C there at Stanford for a stroll about campus.

Bud had to somewhat curtail his usual jumping off steps and general parkour, since the younger kids were prone to following him (and not quite as capable as they think they are). The little ones did have a fabulous time once they found a decorative gravel bed near one of the walkways, though, and ran around columns and across the crunchy rocks, giggling.

They got some lunch there before heading home. Buster snoozed a little bit in the car, and they had a mellow afternoon before I arrived. The kids were a bit excited at my arrived, and got a bit rambunctious while I took a shower. After I'd cleaned up, M-lady took and nap and I watched an episode of Fraggle Rock with the kids.

We played a bit more before we got started on some dinner plans. Bud and I were going to go out to pick up food, but Buster was intent on joining us. So all four of us ended up running out to get dinner. We ate pretty well after we'd brought the food home.

After dinner, we watched a little more TV and played a bit before doing showers for both the kids. They were pretty cooperative in the shower, so that went well. Bud has recently started handling dressing himself more, so managed to get himself into PJs before heading downstairs for a snack and doing the bedtime routine with M-lady while I put Buster to bed. Both kids were pretty worn out, and fell asleep quickly.

Homework

The morning was pretty usual, and I took Bud to school around 8:15. Bud has started getting 'homework', usually involving coloring or line tracing. M-lady has been helping Bud with the homework projects so far, but I'm sure I'll have an opportunity to help out, too.

Bud had a good day at school, and the kids had baths during the day. M-lady and I arrived home from work around the same time, and after M-lady got settled in, gave me the opportunity to nap a little bit while she played with the kids. They did some coloring and cooked and ate dinner together. Both kids were apparently very cooperative all evening.

Bud woke me shortly before his bedtime, and I helped him with a snack and his bedtime routine, which went smoothly. Both kids slept well after going to bed.

Raisins

Bud was up this morning around 7:00, and insisted on having breakfast immediately rather than letting me talk him into snoozing a little bit. So I got him some breakfast, and Buster joined us on the way down. M-lady had to leave a bit early for work this morning, so I got to spend the morning with the kids.

Bud, sort of out of the blue, requested raisins for breakfast. While he was munching on some raisins, I added a few to Buster's bowl of cereal. Buster enjoyed the raisins and cereal quite a bit, and Bud then asked for some cereal with his raisins. I think he liked the idea that both he and Buster were having the same thing for breakfast.

After breakfast, we played together in the living room for a bit, with some wrestling and resting, before Nanny J arrived and I headed upstairs to get ready for work. The kids left with Nanny J to go for a walk a few minutes before I headed into the office.

Buster was apparently a bit cranky today, taking an early nap and not really eating much after his cereal and raisin breakfast. Both kids got baths in the afternoon, and they seemed happy to see me when I arrived home around 5:00. We said goodbye to Nanny J, and played together for a bit before having a video chat with Granddad B and Grandma Nese. Bud was a little reluctant to chat, and Buster kept wanting to hit buttons on the laptop, although he also seemed interested in the cat which showed up on the screen. After the chat, we settled in front of the TV for a little while.

M-lady arrived home as we were getting started on dinner. Both kids ate reasonably well, and we were able to watch an episode of Fraggle Rock after dinner. Both kids enjoyed popsicles for dessert, and then Bud asked for raisins again for a snack before bedtime. I was able to put Bud to bed without any fuss, and M-lady took care of Buster. Both kids have slept soundly so far.

Buster clearly has his eye teeth coming in on top, and both have broken through. It looks like the ones on the bottom aren't too far behind, which I'm sure is making his whole mouth a bit tender. So crankiness and drool is to be expected for a little while.
