The Price of Potty Training...

is eternal vigilance. Or something like that.

Bud woke this morning briefly at about 5:30, complaining of a wet diaper. I got him changed, sat him on the toilet for a little while ineffectually, and put him back to bed. He woke again around 8:00, and I got up with him to do our usual morning routine.

After a couple of kid switches, and getting Buster to go to sleep, we all packed up and headed off to the mall for lunch. Bud happily ate a corn dog, fries, and a cherry lemonade for lunch. He had a bit of a meltdown as we walked through the mall shortly afterward, but we sorted it out. Bud went into the shoe store with M-lady and picked out a new pair of shoes and a pair of sandals for summer. Size 10s!

We headed home after that, and got home shortly before Aunt O and Cousin C arrived. They're moving in for a few days, as Uncle C has to go out of town for a conference for a few days. Aunt O and M-lady can support each other over the next few days, as I may get home late from the conference in San Francisco I'll be attending this week.

We spent the early afternoon getting Aunt O and Cousin C settled. As the afternoon progressed, and things looked pretty stable, I took the opportunity to dash out for a bike ride. I got back just as they were starting in on dinner.

Bud ate well, and played on his own for a bit before we were able to join him again. He's able to play by himself for longer and longer periods now. After I ate, we had nice video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B. Bud was a little rambunctious on the call, but I think he enjoyed seeing them.

We watched a little bit of TV, and started the bedtime routine shortly afterward. Bud was pretty good through the routine, and we read The Emperor and the Kite again. Shortly after we turned out the light, Bud let me know that he needed to poop, so we went and sat together on the toilet for a while.

No poop. So into bed, only to come out about 15 minutes later saying he really needed to poop this time. Again, nothing. At this point it was a bit past 9:00, and he fell asleep pretty quickly. He didn't poop at all today, though, so with any luck he won't poop during the night. Maybe we can even put him on the toilet for the poop. He certainly seemed willing tonight.
