Inaccurate Fatigue Evaluation

Buster was up and down a bit more this morning, adn M-lady did a good job taking care of him. Bud was up around 7:00, and I got up with him to help change his diaper and get dressed. Ama and Agu took over while we were getting dressed, and I went back to bed for a little while.

Bud had a good morning playing with Ama and Agu. I joined them when it was getting near lunchtime. Bud requested PB and J for lunch, with no cuts in the sandwich: just a big square. He gobbled the whole thing down pretty quickly.

After lunch, I went to the mall with Bud and Agu, looking for sandals for Bud and a new waffle iron for the family. Unfortunately, we didn't have much luck on either task, but it was good to get out of the house for a little while.

Bud wanted me to carry him throughout the mall. I put him on my shoulders for a lot of the trip, but the kid is getting pretty heavy. He walked a little bit, grudgingly. He's also become scared of escalators recently, and I had to carry him when we went up and down those.

While we were waiting for the clerk to check stock on a waffle iron, Bud started getting particularly whiny and impatient. We eventually left empty handed, at which point Bud proclaimed that he didn't want to go home because he wasn't tired. I suggested he was, in fact, pretty tired, and it was a good time to take a nap.

We headed home, and Bud didn't actually nap, but we had some quiet time in his room from about 1:45 to 3:00. After he got up, he spent some time playing with Ama, Agu, and M-lady before dinner.

He ate pretty well at dinner, and had the chocolate coating from a chocolate dipped slice of apple from the edible bouquet. He spent the first part of the evening dancing and singing with Agu.

At about 7:00, Bud and I started playing together in his room for a bit before we headed downstairs to catch Little Bill and have some milk. The bedtime routine followed, and Bud was reasonably well behaved through it. He was in bed around 8:20, then asked to sit on the potty before getting in bed and staying there at about 8:45.

Buster was good today, and very alert from about 5:00 to 8:00 or so in the evening. We did some tummy time, and I almost got a couple of smiles from him. He did have a big barf with Ama in the evening, though, while I was putting Bud to bed. Hopefully he'll sleep for a good long stretch again tonight.

Getting Some Sleep

Buster actually slept from around midnight to 5:30am last night. This qualifies as 'sleeping through the night', which the baby books refer to as sleeping for five hours. Hope we can keep on that trend!

M-lady and Ama and Agu again did most of the care for Bud and Buster today. I slept in a little bit, got up, went to work, and got a new assignment late in the afternoon which will probably keep me working most of the weekend. Hopefully I'll get to spend a little time with the family this weekend, though.

M-lady took Bud to play at friend A's house today. Bud had a pretty good time, but was a bit shy, apparently. We should make more efforts to invite Bud's friends over here, since he definitely is a little more comfortable on home turf.

Bud ate a lot of watermelon while they were off at playgroup, and then had some lunch before too long after he got home. Aunt O arrive with Cousin C around the time he got hme, and Bud spent some time doing a puzzle with Aunt O. He spent a good chunk of the afternoon playing with Ama and Agu as well, and Agu actually got him to nap in the late afternoon.

Bud had a bit of a meltdown when it was time to get up, apparently, and the bath was a struggle. I got home around 6:30, though, and he was happily eating dinner when I arrived.

Bud was pretty well behaved all through the rest of the evening. I got to do most of the bedtime routine with him, getting him into PJs, brushing teeth, etc. He was pretty good through it all, although he got a little overexcited at one point and bit me. I scolded him, and he got sulky, but we patched things up pretty quickly.

He's been requesting Barbapapa books for bedtime stories for the past few nights. I don't mind them, but they aren't as fun to read out loud as the Seuss books we'd been reading before. I'm sure we'll get back to Seuss before too long. I'll probably try some A.A. Milne before too long, as a transition into books without lots of pictures for bedtime stories.

The primary Buster news, aside from sleeping through the night, is that his mild cradle cap was improved dramatically by putting some baby oil on his head last night, and washing it off today.

Sleep Tracking

Buster was up a couple times during the night, but wasn't nearly as miserable as last night. Bud woke pretty early this morning, around 6:45, and played with M-lady and Ama and Agu.

I was up late last night working, and then had to go into the office when I got up, so I missed most of the day. Bud apparently had his now-usual not nap in the afternoon, hanging out with M-lady in his room for a while. Nanny J gave him a bath in the later afternoon.

He had some dinner with us around 5:45, and then did some dancing for a bit with Ama and Agu while M-lady and I took care of Buster. He did much of the bedtime routine with M-lady and the grandparents, and I found him watching TV with them around 7:30. I helped him brush his teeth, read a story, and put him to bed around 8:00.

It's getting time for us to start tracking Buster's sleep patterns more closely, so we can start working on having sleep more at night and perhaps a little less during the day.

Post-Nasal Drip

Buster had trouble sleeping last night due to a post-nasal drip. The mucus production was working overtime, and Buster would cough and choke after a few minutes of lying down. He slept OK on my chest while I was sitting in a chair from about 2:00 to 3:30 or so when Ama took a shift, but he didn't really get much more continuous sleep until much later in the morning.

Bud spent a good portion of the day dancing along with Ama and Agu to Jabbawockeez videos. M-lady managed to catch Bud working on a headspin on video.

Bud was a bit reluctant to head to school, but had a good time while he was there. He didn't have a nap in the afternoon, so got a bit willful in the evening. I played a little Boom Blox with him after dinner, but he lost interest pretty quickly.

M-lady and her parents got Bud through a rough bedtime routine. He fell asleep pretty quickly, since he was so tired.

Buster seems to be sleeping better tonight. Which means we all get to sleep better tonight.

More Grandparents

Bud woke this morning briefly at about 5:00. He came into our room, and asked me to help him go potty. I sat him on the potty for a few minutes, and then put him back to bed. I think the potty was an excuse to have one of us put him back to bed and sit with him for a minute, although he didn't really seem upset, just a little groggy.

Buster was up a bit after that, and M-lady took care of him. Bud slept in until about 8:30, which was nice. I got up with him and we did the usual stalling/potty/change diaper/go downstairs for milk routine.

Nanny J arrived just as we were getting milk. Bud really wanted to watch a little TV with me, though, so we caught an episode of the Backyardigans. Bud seemed to enjoy it.

He tried to accompany me while I was got started on work, but got bored pretty quickly and headed out to hang out with M-lady, Buster, and Nanny J.

I had to head into the office in the late morning, and Bud was having fun playing with Nanny J when I left. He apparently had a good lunch and a bath during the afternoon. At one point he told Nanny J to stay downstairs, and that he was going upstairs to take a nap. Rather than nap, however, he headed into our bedroom and spent some time hanging out with M-lady instead.

Ama and Agu arrived at about 3:00 or so, and Bud was playing happily with them when I arrived home a bit after 5:00. They brought a couple of new toys for him, including a shopping cart and a cash register. So Bud was having a good time shopping.

We had a great dinner that had been prepared by Nanny J, and Bud did most of the bedtime routine with Agu and M-lady while I spent more time working. Sadly, I'm on a deadline again for the week, and won't have much time to spend with the kids at all. It's a good thing Ama and Agu are here with us for a few days.

I did get to watch a video and read a story to Bud before bed. He used all his stalling techniques tonight, but eventually went to sleep around 8:30.

Play Date

Buster was up at 2:00 and again around 5:30 or so. I got up at about 6:00, when M-lady was done feeding Buster, and rocked him until about 6:45, when Bud got up. M-lady took over for Buster, who hadn't yet gone back to sleep, and I spent the morning with Bud.

We got a clean diaper on, went potty, and headed downstairs for milk and TV. After watching a couple of shows, we had some toast together, and then played for a bit with games and lego. At about 10:00, I handed Bud off to M-lady and took my turn catching up on some sleep.

They had a good time together, although M-lady was a bit worn out by lunchtime. I took over, and Bud and I had some lunch while Buster and M-lady napped. Bud had a cold dog, and ate most of it. I also let him have a Red Vine for the first time, which he thought was pretty cool. We spent a little bit of time after lunch playing Boom Blox before heading out to run some errands together.

Bud was great as we hit Home Depot and the grocery store, riding on my shoulders occasionally and staying close when on foot. We had a lot of fun, and it was nice to get out of the house for a bit. Both M-lady and Buster were still asleep when we got back.

I spent some time trying to get Bud to nap after that, but we only rested for a bit. At about 4:30, Bud's friend from school, J, came over with his parents to play and have some dinner. Bud was a little bit nervous at first, but eventually played with J really well.

Actually, it was wonderful to see them play together on their own. M-lady chatted with J's mom in the kitchen, and I chatted with his dad out by the grill, and the two kids played on their own in the playroom for quite some time very amicably. I saw them doing puzzles together, drumming, and playing with tools.

We all had a nice dinner together, and towards the end the boys asked if they could go play again. They had fun together right up until it was time for J to go home. Bud was getting pretty tired by the time they left, a bit after 7:30, so we started the bedtime routine.

Bud was reasonably cooperative, but wasn't in bed until a bit after 8:00, regardless. He didn't get up after we turned the lights out, though. We're starting to despair for him continuing to nap. If we take it out entirely, he may sleep a little later into the morning, though.

Continuous Grandparent Presence

Bud woke this morning around 7:00, and I got up with him. He was in a reasonably good mood, but we took a little while to get into a clean diaper and use the potty before heading downstairs.

He got to say goodbye to Grandma W and Granddad B, and gave them both hugs, which was nice. Bud and I ended up watching some TV and playing some Boom Blox while M-lady took care of Buster.

At about 10:30, we packed up and headed over to Aunt O and Uncle C's place. Ama and Agu were there, so Bud got to hang out with those grandparents for a while. Agu made a nice lunch for us, and Bud ate well. We all played some more Boom Blox together while taking turns caring for the little ones, Buster and Cousin C. A little later we had some cake, which Bud was very excited about.

On the way home, Bud fell asleep in the car, so we drove around a little bit out of our way. We picked up some donuts before heading home, and Bud slept for a good 30-40 minutes before we pulled into the garage, where he promptly woke up.

He was a bit groggy, though, so I took him upstairs to watch some videos on YouTube. We stumbled across a video of a cake being made in the shape of a labradoodle, which he really enjoyed for some reason. He asked to watch it several times. While we were watching, I set up a video call with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and Bud got to see them as well as Aunt Kt. They also got to see Buster between a snack and a diaper change.

Bud had woken up a bit by that point, and played with M-lady for a bit while rocked Buster to sleep and then took a bit of a nap myself. We all had some soup for dinner together, and afterward Bud and I took a shower together. He was pretty amenable, but didn't want to come out of the shower at the end.

After M-lady and I put him into PJs, Bud and I watched a little bit of TV and did the usual bedtime thing. Bud was good with it tonight, although wanted to eat some more as I was turning out the light. So we went back downstairs, had some toast, and then brushed his teeth again. After that he went to bed peaceably, and only got up once a little later to peek in on M-lady.

M-lady and I will be on our own tonight with Buster, but it shouldn't be too bad. Buster seems to be right on the edge of sleeping a little more regularly.

Parent Escape

Buster was reasonably well behaved during the night, and Bud woke a bit after seven and played with the grandparents immediately, rather than waking M-lady and me.

I headed downstairs to see how everyone was doing at about 9:00. Bud attached himself to my leg right when I wanted to get some cinnamon rolls in the oven. I managed to get him settled on the couch in front of an episode of Zoboomafoo long enough to get the rolls in the oven.

He devoured one when they came out, and then tried to get tithes from the rest of us. He may have gotten a couple more bites. I spent some time with him after that working on getting him dressed.

Around noon Bud went to the park with Granddad B, happily pedaling away on his tricycle. He's still working on the pedaling part, but is certainly getting better at it. Grandma W stayed home with Buster, and M-lady and I escaped to see a movie together for the first time in about 10 months. We had a great time seeing the new Indiana Jones movie.

When we returned, we discovered both the kids napping. Bud was in his room, and Buster was snoozing on Granddad B. I got started on dinner prep.

Bud woke around 5:00, and played with Grandma W in the back yard while I grilled dinner. Buster was up and down for most of the evening, never really sleeping for more than about 30 minutes at a time between 5:00 and 9:30 or so. After dinner Bud, Granddad B, and I played some Rock Band together before having some ice cream and starting the bedtime routine.

Bud was a bit reluctant through the routine tonight, which ended up causing some strife. He was eventually in bed around 8:30, and asleep a bit after that. Sadly, the grandparents take off tomorrow morning, but we've had a wonderful visit and their help has been invaluable this past week.

Feeling Better

Bud woke this morning around 7:00, and was reasonably chipper. We got through the morning routine without too much trouble. Since going to the dentist, he doesn't mind brushing his teeth in the morning, to get rid of the 'sugar bugs'. We changed his diaper, went potty, and got dressed as well before heading downstairs to watch a little bit of TV with Grandma W.

Bud stayed inside for most of the day, as the air quality today was a bit degraded by the nearby fires in the Santa Cruz mountains. The air in the house was fine, but during the morning and early afternoon it smelled pretty smoky outside. The air had cleared up pretty well by evening time.

Right before lunch we had a video call with my sister, RuggerMom, and her kids. The twins are looking healthy, and we all had a nice chat. The chat ended with Bud and LittleRugger giving each other a video high-five.

Nanny J was still a little under the weather with the cold we've all had, so she left around lunchtime. I had to head to work at that time as well, leaving the grandparents and M-lady with the kids.

M-lady got a chance to head out to Target with Bud in the afternoon. Bud was well behaved, and they managed to pick up some essentials. Bud again mostly skipped his nap, although he did have some quiet time in the afternoon.

I got home around 5:00, and Granddad B and I headed out to pick up dinner. Bud ate well and with the family, which was nice. After dinner, Bud, Granddad B, and I all played some Mario Kart Wii together. Bud's getting really close to being able to steer properly... the controls are still a little more sensitive than he can handle, but he's getting there.

Bud was pretty good throughout the bedtime routine. He seemed to recognize that he was getting tired tonight, and was happy and willing to get into PJs, brush teeth, etc. He even went to sleep on the first try.

Zoo and Picnic

Playing on the Viking Boat at Happy Hollow
M-lady and the grandparents did another great job of taking care of Buster last night, and I got to sleep until Bud woke at about 7:00. I hung out with Bud for a while, and eventually convinced him to go potty, put on a clean diaper, and get dressed before we headed downstairs to watch some TV. The cleaners were due to arrive at 9:00, so I spent some time picking up toys and putting away puzzles while Bud watched TV with Grandma W.

I kept an eye on Buster while M-lady got Bud and the grandparents set up for a trip to the zoo. They hit the road around 9:30, having packed up everything they might need for the trip. They apparently had a great time, checking out the zoo, having some lunch, and then playing in the park for a bit before coming home.

Looking cute
Nanny J arrived in the afternoon, just before Bud and the grandparents arrived home. They played some more before Bud went down for his nap around 2:00. I managed to catch Bud sneaking out a couple of times, and changed a slightly poopy diaper of his. He didn't actually nap, and got up for good shortly before 3:30.

Later in the afternoon we got started on packing up for Bud's Teddy Bear Picnic held at his preschool. We packed some sandwiches for dinner, and headed out around 5:30. Buster promptly fell asleep in the car.

With the Grandparents
When we arrived, Bud headed off to his classroom while the rest of us got settled on our picnic blankets on the field. After a bit, all the kids came out with the teachers, marching to a song about teddy bears. And while Bud marched with the rest of his class, he stood around and watched while (most of) the other kids danced and clapped and sang to several other songs. All in all it was very cute.

After the performance, all the kids scattered to their families, and we ate. Buster gathered some attention from families who hadn't met him yet, and Bud had a good time eating. He grabbed a couple of cookies for dessert, while the rest of us had a good time visiting with other families.

The family. Bud's a bit bored.
We headed home around 7:00, and Bud tried very hard to calm Buster when he started crying about halfway home. Bud didn't get upset, which was good, and offered soothing sounds.

When we got home, I took Bud into the shower, and then started the bedtime routine. He was pretty tired, although he didn't want to admit it, after his long day. He stalled on going to bed a little bit, but was asleep around 8:30.

First Dentist Visit

Bud woke around 7:00, and I got up to get him into a clean diaper. He was a bit resistant, though, so I headed back to bed and M-lady got up with him. He had a good morning with the grandparents and M-lady.

Nanny J stayed home today, as she wasn't feeling very well. With the grandparents here, it wasn't really an issue.

Bud and M-lady headed off for Bud's first dentist appointment in the late morning. They took the dentist book with them, and read it in the waiting room several times. Bud was apparently very good (if a little shy) through the whole thing. He got to sit on M-lady's lap on the chair, which was nice, and the dentist gave him a big hand mirror to hold so he could see what was going on.

His teeth are fine, and are still spaced far enough apart that we don't have to worry about flossing yet. We need to keep up the brushing, of course. Bud later reported to me that he got to pick out some floss, a toothbrush, and a flamingo pen for being so good for the checkup.

Bud ate a sandwich and some pineapple for lunch when he got home, and then some more sandwich. He was pretty hungry. After playing with the grandparents a bit more, I sat with him in his room for a bit while he didn't nap.

This was his fifth day in a row without a nap, and he broke down in the early evening. Bud was really fussy and unhappy, as well as clingy. He didn't want me to go out to pick up the pizza for dinner, and didn't want to come with me. We finally convinced him to come with me, and he passed out in the car after about a minute.

He was grumpy when we got home, refusing dinner and sulking for a bit. M-lady finally talked him out of his funk, but by that time it was getting pretty late. We watched a little bit of TV, including an episode of Oswald before having a slice of pizza, a popsicle, and starting the bedtime routine.

Bud didn't want to go to bed, either, and procrastinated a bit. He was in bed a little before 8:00, but got up a couple of times. He fell asleep around 8:30. With any luck he'll take a nap tomorrow.

Buster was awake for a large portion of the evening, eating continuously. We think he might be doing another growth spurt. When he finally did fall asleep, he woke whenever deposited in his Amby. He's sleeping on my chest right now. Hopefully I'll be able to drop him off soon and get to sleep myself.

Everybody's Sick

Buster slept well last night, swaddled up in his Miracle Blanket. We'll keep using that for sure. Bud woke around 8:00, and I got him cleaned up before we headed downstairs to visit with Grandma W and watch some Sesame Street.

Bud, M-lady, and I all suffering from colds. Bud had a very runny nose and a cough today, M-lady had a cough and a fever, and I had a bit of a cough. Buster seems to have some stuffiness, and is spitting up a bit more than usual, but otherwise doesn't seem to be too uncomfortable. Hopefully the grandparents will be able to avoid the bug.

Unfortunately, Nanny J got sick, so only stayed for about an hour this morning before heading back home. We all apologized for getting her sick, and hope she feels better soon. Fortunately, we've got backup with the grandparents around.

They took Bud out for a picnic at one of the local parks, where they had an early lunch. They had a good time running around, although this apparently aggravated Bud's cough a little bit.

Bud refused his nap in the afternoon, although he was willing to play quietly in his room for a while. He came out at about 3:00, and I played with him on the computer a little bit before we headed downstairs for a snack.

In the late afternoon I put Buster on his playmat for some tummy time, where he showed plenty of strength to get his head up. He face planted as well, and was pretty unhappy with the situation by the time I got the camera. So we'll have the camera at the ready the next time we put him down on the mat.

Nanny J had cooked a fantastic stew for us while she was here this morning, and we all enjoyed it for dinner. Bud ate really well. Buster, who'd been fairly high maintenance for most of the day, fell asleep around 6:00, swaddled, and was out until after 9:00.

Bud, Granddad B, and I played some more Boom Blox before bed. Bud was a little bargaining around the bedtime routine, but was pretty tired since he'd skipped his nap. We eventually got him into PJs and got his teeth brushed, and he fell asleep quickly once the lights were out.

Here's hoping everyone is feeling better tomorrow.

Too Much Light

Buster slept well again last night, although Granddad B ended up holding him for a couple of hours. We'll swaddle him again tonight after his first late-night feeding, currently scheduled for sometime between 11:00 and midnight. If he sleeps six hours again, it would be great.

Bud woke a little grumpy this morning a bit after 8:00, the same time I got up. In an effort to cheer him up, I raced him to the window when I hear what I thought was the garbage truck approaching. I threw up the blinds to see, and Bud threw his hands over his eyes, crying, "Too much light!" as the yard waste bulldozer thing drove by. Oh well. Next time.

After being grumpy for a pretty short period of time, we headed downstairs, ate some pineapple and watermelon, saw Grandma W, and felt much better.

Bud enjoyed playing with the grandparents in the morning. Nanny J arrived and 9:00, and helped out quite a bit. She bathed Buster in the mid-morning, which was nice. I worked from home for the day. At lunchtime, I came downstairs, and discovered Bud refusing lunch. I eventually coaxed him with a PB and J sandwich.

He didn't want to go to school today (having too much fun with the grandparents), but after some screaming and crying he accepted the blatent bribe of a cookie and headed off reasonably happy. He had a great time at school, arriving home around 3:30.

While he was gone, Aunt O swung by with Cousin C for a visit. Cousin C, who is two and a half weeks older than Buster, is looking pretty good. He's smiling back at people which is really cool. Looking forward to getting Buster smiling. While they were here, I found Bud's old activity mat, so Buster should be getting some time on that before too long.

Bud opted to stay home with Grandma W while Granddad B and I had a quick outing to Fry's. We picked up dinner on the way home, and found Bud on the front step waiting for our return. He was really excited to see the new Rock Band drum kit to replace the one he's broken the pads on.

We all had dinner together, which was nice, and Bud ate reasonably well. After playing a bit of a new Wii game, Boom Blox, together, I took Bud upstairs and showered with him.

After the shower it was another treat (ice cream) followed by the bedtime routine. He stalled a little bit, but went to sleep pretty quickly.

M-lady was wonderful today, taking care of Buster and Bud while she's still pretty sick herself. Hopefully she'll get a good night's sleep tonight and feel better tomorrow.

Sleeping Through the Night

Buster was awake for a large portion of the late evening, eating quite a bit before finally passing out around midnight. I swaddled him in a Miracle Blanket, dropped him in his Amby, and headed for bed. He apparently slept for six hours before the grandparents heard him fussing and fed him. He was apparently pretty frantic about eating, having not had anything for 6+ hours. I don't expect we'll get a repeat tonight, but it's nice to know that he sleeps well while swaddled.

Bud woke a bit after 7:00, and rather than come into our room, went looking for the grandparents to play with him. He had a lot of fun with them all day, playing with trains, balls, imagination games, and the puzzles they brought for him.

At about 10:00 I made some waffles, which everyone enjoyed. Bud ate most of one, as well as a whole lot of orange juice. His nose was still a bit runny today, so we didn't mind giving him a little extra vitamin C.

Buster was handed around between folks quite a bit today. Grandma W says she got a smile. Buster should be just about old enough to start delivering smiles, which we're all looking forward to.

We had sandwiches for lunch, and Bud ate just a little bit, still being full of waffle, apparently. He had several poops during the day, indicating that his stomach was a little off and he might not be entirely over the cold. He was pretty good about peeing on the potty when asked, though.

Bud and I played a little bit of Rock Band before nap time. While he didn't actually have a nap, he did lay quietly in his room for a while. I told him he could come out at 3:00, and sure enough he popped out of his room around 3:05. We were hoping he'd sleep, but no such luck.

He spent the evening playing with the grandparents. I made burgers for dinner, and Bud did a reasonable job on his, with lots of ketchup, as usual. After dinner there was just a little more time to play before we watched a little TV and started the bedtime routine.

Bud was reasonably good through the bedtime routine, although his butt was irritated since he'd had a little bit of a poop and didn't tell us. I Desitined his butt, and he fell asleep really quickly after a song and story.

More Visitors

Buster was up and down a bit this morning, and M-lady took care of him. I got up at about 6:45 and took Buster from M-lady, letting her sleep for a bit. Bud woke shortly afterward, and all three of us headed downstairs to watch some morning TV. Buster slept on my chest, mostly.

Bud was his usual happy self in the morning, and we had a pretty good time together. M-lady got up at about 9:00, and she and I took turns getting ourselves ready for the day. I managed to snooze with Buster on my chest from about 10:00 to 11:00, when Buddy C arrived for a visit.

Buddy C was down from Seattle for a couple of days, and stopped by. Bud was a little nervous of him at first, but warmed up pretty quickly. We had fun chatting, and Bud went with Buddy C and me to the grocery store to pick up some sandwich fixings for lunch.

After a good lunch, Bud played by himself for about 20 minutes while M-lady, Buddy C, and I talked. He did a good job keeping himself entertained. Buddy C and I started preparing for a quick bike ride, and Bud wanted to join us. So I plopped him in the trailer and took him along.

He snoozed a little on the ride, although he was awake when I got to the top of the climb with him. He wanted me to keep going when I stopped for a rest. He enjoyed the descent once we got going again.

Waiting for us at home was Grandma W and Granddad B. They'll be staying for a week. Bud was excited to see them, and immediately started playing with Granddad B with trains and puzzles. He was pretty high-energy for the rest of the evening.

After hanging out a bit longer with Buddy C, he packed up and took off, and we got started on dinner. Bud ate a lot of casserole, and then played some more with the grandparents before we got started on the bedtime routine. We all watched a little bit of Oswald and Little Bill before getting into PJs. Bud was a little slow during the routine, but quick enough to have a song and story before bed.

Bud was good and peed on the potty a couple of times today. He responded quickly when asked, which was really nice. Hopefully this trend continues.

Cranky Afternoon

Buster was up a couple times during the night, but M-lady managed to do all the work, so I got to sleep. Thanks, M-lady! She was pretty tired today, though, so I helped out with the kids whenever I could.

Bud woke at about 7:30, and I got up with him. He had a runny nose which lasted all day, and I was constantly wiping in for him. We did a pretty standard morning routine, and headed downstairs to catch Sesame Street. Nanny J arrived when the show finished up, and I made my way up to the computer to start the workday.

Bud went with M-lady to the library mid-morning, and returned one of the library books he'd picked up on an earlier trip. They came home with three Dr. Seuss books, including Green Eggs and Ham. I read all the books to Bud when they got home, before we headed downstairs for lunch.

Bud ate his usual cold hotdog, and he hung out in the office with me for a bit while I did some work afterward. He eventually had his nap (after getting a little overtired), and woke around 4:15.

Meanwhile, Buster was awake for about five hours straight. We concluded that the Hep B shot he got yesterday was making him a little uncomfortable (although he wasn't wailing), and gave him a dose of Motrin. He fell asleep in the swing shortly afterward, and slept for a few hours.

Bud was really cranky when he got up. I heard him wailing with Nanny J for a while, and she eventually left him alone. He wailed with me for a while, too. M-lady and I have sort of pieced together that he might be a little scared that M-lady or I might leave, but it's not a certain thing. In any case, I reassured him that I would always come back, even on days where I had to work late.

I asked him if he wanted anything, and when he expressed a preference for sitting in his room and continuing to cry, I told him I wasn't as interested in that. He pulled himself together, and we headed downstairs for some water. After that he had watermelon, and pineapple, and was giggling again in short order.

We said goodbye to Nanny J at 5:30, before he'd had his bath. Bud helped me get my laundry started, and then he and I went out to pick up some dinner. Buster woke up right around dinner time, and M-lady and I took turns eating. After dinner, Bud and I had a good shower together, and started in on the bedtime routine.

We skipped the milk and TV since Bud was having so much fun dancing naked that he didn't want to get into his PJs. The rest of the routine went OK once Bud got into the spirit of it, though. He was in bed around 8:30, although he got up around 9:15 looking for a tissue for his runny nose. He fell asleep on his own shortly after that.

One Month Checkup

Buster was up this morning from about 12:30am to nearly 4:00. M-lady handed him to me at about 2:45, having fed him and changed a couple of poopy diapers. I fed him another two bottles of formula, and changed his clothes when he spit up while I was changing his diaper. He slept until about 7:30 after that.

Bud woke at about 7:00, and I got up with him, changed his diaper, and got him set up downstairs in front of the TV. M-lady joined us, and I headed back to bed for a bit. Apparently M-lady picked up Buster when he woke, and they all watched some TV together.

Nanny J arrived at 9:00, and Bud was pretty happy today. He's clearly on the way up after his cold, although he did have a runny nose for a lot of the day. He did have fun sticking his head under M-lady's skirt.

Yesterday marked Buster's one-month birthday. At about 10:00, M-lady and I started getting ready to take Buster to his corresponding doctor's appointment. He was a little fussy during the exam, and managed to fill his ear with spitup right before the doctor examined him, but other than that did fine. He's got a little bit of the cold that's been going around the family, but it doesn't seem to be cause for concern. And he weighed in at 9 lbs, 2 oz, which means he gained about 2 lbs in the last two weeks. He got his second Hep B shot today, which he didn't like too much, but seemed to forget about immediately afterward.

M-lady and I grabbed some lunch on the way home, and remembered why we didn't like stoplights when Bud was small... Buster started squalling each time the car stopped.

Bud was just having his lunch when we got home, and he played with Nanny J a bit more before taking his nap. Bud managed to miss his nap today, but since he stayed inside all day, it didn't seem like too much of an issue.

It was really hot today, with temps going into the nineties easily, and perhaps hitting triple digits in the sun. So I'm glad Bud stayed in. We turned on the house AC for the first time, and it worked well, keeping the bedrooms cool in particular. Bud and I played on the computer for a bit after Nanny J departed. We also played with his trains for a bit, which he'd pulled out with Nanny J in the afternoon. It's been quite some time since he's played with his trains, and he was disappointed some of the batteries were dead.

He ate a little bit of dinner, and played a little bit more before we sat in front of the TV to start the bedtime routine. He was rambunctious and a bit uncooperative during the bedtime routine again, so tonight we took away the story (he still got to watch a video on the iPhone). He was a bit chagrined, but it's been getting difficult to get through the routine as he procrastinates.

Buster was up for a while after that, with lots of pooping and eating. He fell asleep right around 11:00, and hopefully will snooze for a while.

Mourning Period

Buster was up this morning from a little after 12:00 to nearly 3:00. M-lady handed him off to me shortly after 2:00, and I gave him a bottle and managed to coax him back to sleep after a bit. He slept until about 6:30.

Bud slept until about 7:00, but woke highly distraught. He wailed for about 20 minutes, repeating, "I want my pup!" Eventually he calmed down and we went downstairs for milk and Sesame Street. M-lady joined us in a bit, and Nanny J arrived at 9:00.

Bud was still a little brittle during the morning, but survived pretty well. He didn't seem to have a fever, so we sent him off to school in the afternoon. M-lady also packed up Buster, and headed out for lunch with her work colleagues, which I was able to crash as well.

I managed to get home a few minutes before Bud arrived, and he was extremely fragile, bursting into tears at the slight provocation. I took eventually took his temperature and discovered a low grade fever, so gave him a dose of Motrin. Twenty minutes later, he was happy and laughing again.

He had a good bath in the late afternoon, although he required me to blow bubbles with him again in the tub (which was how I lured him in yesterday). After his bath, he wanted to play with me, and since it was after 5:00, I joined him downstairs for some running around. After Nanny J left we played in the front yard briefly, and then came in and slowed things down a little bit while dinner was in the oven.

We spent the rest of the low-key evening watching TV and eating dinner as a family, which was nice. Bud was a bit rambunctious during the bedtime routine, but eventually went to sleep OK around 8:30. He pooped in his diaper about 10 minutes later, which I changed.

At about 10:00 Bud woke crying inconsolably. He calmed down after about 5 minutes and with a little bit of ice water to drink, and went right back to sleep. He wasn't running a fever, but he seemed pretty warm, and turning on the fan in his room seemed to make him more comfortable. We'll check to make sure the temperature is still OK when we're up through the night.

Death of Pup

Buster was up from about 4:00 to 6:00 this morning, but Grandma Nese took the shift, so M-lady and I got some sleep. Thanks Grandma Nese! Bud woke this morning about 6:30, and I got up with him. We changed a very wet diaper, and I took his temperature to see if he had a fever. It was up a little over 100, so I gave him a dose of Motrin and we chilled in his room for a bit.

Shortly after 7:00, we were about to head downstairs for some milk when Bud had a little barf. Mostly he burped up the Motrin, I think. M-lady and I got him cleaned up and I sat and watched a little TV with him and gave him some apple juice.

M-lady joined us after a bit, and I get ready for an early departure to get up to San Francisco for a presentation. Bud was pretty good during the day with M-lady and Nanny J, although his appetite was still a little short. Grandma Nese departed for the airport to head home around mid-morning, and Bud gave her a big hug goodbye. Thanks again, Grandma Nese!

Bud had his nap, and his fever never really reappeared. I got home late afternoon, and Bud was enjoying a big plate of watermelon with Nanny J. But he seemed particularly brittle in the late afternoon: he turned on the waterworks at the drop of a hat, several times. Nanny J and I both had to coax him into his bathtub, and even that ended in tears when we tried to soap him up.

In any case, Bud and I had some fun playing with bubbles outside after Nanny J left. We looked at the strawberry plants in the front yard, inspected some ants, and counted snails. Eventually we headed back in to have some dinner.

Bud ate a reasonable dinner, and we had some ice cream afterward. Then a little bit of Rock Band, and the bedtime routine. However, we discovered that his pacifier had a hole in it during the bedtime routine. Bud's first words, upon hearing the news that his last pup was broken, were: "Can I open the present now?"

Grandma Nese had gotten Bud a little stuffed dog (a puppy) to cuddle with instructions to open it when the pup broke. Bud remembered, and immediately wanted to open the present. He didn't really seem concerned about the pacifier.

I coddled him a bit through the rest of the bedtime routine, and he went to bed pretty well. He got up about 30 minutes later claiming to need to poop, but fell asleep pretty quickly on his own after that.

He did wake at about 11:00 briefly, crying, but didn't ask for his pup. I suspect he'll take a couple days to figure out a new self-soothing routine, but he currently seems pretty determined to give up the pup.

Sick But Happy

Buster had his midnight meal with M-lady, and then I rocked him to sleep from about 2:00 to 2:45 or so. He then slept until 6:00ish, when Grandma Nese took her shift.

Bud slept in until a little after 8:00, at which point I got up with him and we did the usual morning routine. M-lady joined us a little after 8:30, and I headed back to bed for a bit. After Nanny J arrived at 9:00, Bud apparently requested to go back to bed. He trotted in to our room after spending some time chilling out on his own for a bit.

We thought he might be a little hot, so I took his temperature. He had a fever of about 102, so I gave him a dose of Motrin and we canceled his school plans for the day. Immediately after having his Motrin, he asked if he could go play outside with Nanny J and the bubbles. I guess he wasn't feeling too bad.

I had to work late, so I wasn't home until after Bud went to bed. But apparently he was pretty happy all day, had a smallish lunch (although after gorging last night, it wasn't too much of a concern), and a good nap. His fever never really returned after the Motrin broke it, so we'll check again tomorrow to see how he looks.

Hopefully Buster will escape the cold that's been going around the family. So far he seems fine. Nanny J gave him a bath today, and apparently he lost a bit of hair. So he's looking a little balder now. But there seems to be some new growth hair as well, so I'm not concerned about him staying bald.

2x Mommy Day

Buster was up from about 12:30 to 2:30 or so. M-lady handed him off to me a little before 2:00, and I set him down in his crib finally around 3:00. He slept until nearly 6:00 after that, though, and Grandma Nese handled that feeding.

Bud woke around 7:00, and after getting him up and going to the bathroom, we headed downstairs for milk and morning TV. M-lady came and joined us presently, and I headed back to bed for a little while.

Bud and M-lady had some toast together, and he did his puzzles during the morning as well. I joined them a little after 10:00, and got started on putting together a Mother's Day brunch as soon as I could.

We had eggs, bacon, and waffles, and everybody enjoyed them. Bud helped me mix the batter for the waffles. He proceeded to eat a fair bit as well.

After brunch, Bud played with M-lady and Grandma Nese a bit more while I washed up. I jumped in after finishing the dishes, and Bud and I played with music instruments for a little while, eventually watching a couple of YouTube videos before heading for a nap. I lay down beside Bud, and he fell asleep draped across my legs. I managed to extricate myself, and he slept soundly for a couple of hours.

When I woke him up a little bit after 5:00, he finally agreed to draw a little on the card I'd picked up for him to give to M-lady. He ran off to give it to her when he was done, before I could get the card into the envelope. He was pretty happy to give it, and M-lady was pretty happy to get it.

Bud ate a huge dinner with M-lady and Grandma Nese, and then went outside to play with Grandma Nese and the bubbles again. When he came back inside, he proceeded to eat a leftover waffle, making his evening meal really enormous.

After his snack, Bud and I had a good shower, and we had a quick video call with Grandma W and Granddad B to say 'Happy Mother's Day' before starting the bedtime routine. The routine was a bit abbreviated tonight, since it was late, but Bud didn't seem to mind too much. He went to sleep around 8:30, without using the stalling tactics he's employed the past couple of evenings.

M-lady had been doing a spectacular job as a Mommy of Two. Since she's breastfeeding, she's been caring for Buster almost singlehandedly, and has been spending a lot of time with Bud as well. What a great Mommy!

Exploding Dinnerware

Buster was up for a long while from about 12:30am to 2:30 or so. M-lady handed him off to me sometime after 2:00, and I rocked him until about 3:00. After that he slept until about 5:30, at which point Grandma Nese took a turn feeding and changing him.

Bud woke up around 7:00, and I hung out with him for a bit. After peeing on the potty, we headed downstairs for milk and a little bit of TV. We found a kid's animal show which Bud enjoyed, and Grandma Nese joined us before too long. I took my leave and headed back to bed for a while.

Bud had a good time in the morning playing with Grandma Nese and M-lady. He did all his puzzles, and had some breakfast. It was starting to get close to lunchtime when I got up and joined them.

Bud was being a little disruptive as we picked up the puzzle, but was excited about having lunch. He requested a cold dog, so I got one for him. As I was getting a couple of hot dogs for myself, I noticed some mold on a hot dog bun.

I took the mostly uneaten bun from Bud (he eats the dog first), and offered him other bready-type substitutes. Bud got a bit upset, and eventually threw his plate at the floor. I think the result surprised even him.

Apparently, while Corelle is 'break and chip resistant', it will shatter if exposed to enough impact. And by shatter, I mean, explode. There wasn't a piece larger than a quarter, and they spread all over the kitchen floor. Some pieces even escaped to the dining room. It was a pretty impressive spectacle.

Bud got sent to his room, where M-lady and I had a chat with him after Grandma Nese and I got the shards cleaned up. He eventually apologized, and we set to work on the next great task of the day: potty training.

Bud is clearly capable of going to the potty now, but lacks motivation. M-lady and I had another chat with him about that, and eventually got him to agree to try to use the potty. We'll see how it goes.

Playing with Grandma Nese and the bubbles
He didn't nap in the afternoon, but he and I had some quiet time in his room. At about 3:00 I got up to do some shopping. Bud declined to go with me, and hung out with M-lady while she was feeding Buster instead.

When I got back from shopping, Bud was playing happily in the front yard with Grandma Nese. She was chasing him around with the new bubble machine, and he was giggling hysterically. It was good to see him running around outside a bit.

Bud ate a huge dinner of the casserole that M-lady prepared. He was really excited to get to add ketchup to it. After dinner he helped Grandma Nese trim more roses outside.

He came in to say hello to Granddad B on a video call, and then played airband for a few minutes before we started the bedtime routine. Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C arrived just as we were heading upstairs to get into PJs, and Bud issues a blanket goodnight wave from the top of the stairs.

Bud and I have added watching a music video on YouTube on my iPhone each night right before we read a story. It started with some various Credence Clearwater Revival tunes, and has been some Queen live performances the past couple of nights. We'll have to see if I can find some good, short, classical music videos.

Bubbles and Puzzles

Bud slept pretty well during the night after his stalling on the way to bed, and didn't wake up until 7:30 or so. Buster was also asleep from about 2:00 to 5:30 or so, when Grandma Nese took a shift. So M-lady got to sleep from about 2:00 to 7:30, which was really good for her.

I've managed to come down with a bit of a cold, so M-lady let me sleep until I had to start work, which was nice. She and Bud had a good time reading books before Nanny J arrived at 9:00.

In the late morning, M-lady and Grandma Nese took Bud for a playdate to visit some friends. He had a good time, and apparently played very well, sharing and being on good behavior the whole time.

Bud had a solid nap in the afternoon, and Nanny J gave him a bath before she took off around 5:30. I heard Bud, M-lady, and Grandma Nese playing with bubbles in the backyard happily for a while.

At about 6:00, I finished up my work and headed downstairs to play with Bud for a bit. I wasn't really up for wrestling much, but we hung out together until it was time to start on dinner.

Bud didn't eat dinner with the rest of us, but entertained himself for a bit while we ate. After dinner, I played with him again, doing puzzles until Great Aunt E arrived for a quick visit. Bud was just a little nervous, and soon we were all doing puzzles together on the floor.

After Great Aunt E left, Bud immediately chowed down on his dinner, and had a small bowl of ice cream for dessert. We got started on the bedtime routine after that. Bud was reasonably cooperative, although he said he needed to poop right before we turned out the lights (he didn't, but we sat on the potty for a while anyways). Bud hasn't gotten up since we turned out the lights tonight, though.

Buster was up from about 7:30 to 8:45, eating, looking around, and pooping. Hopefully he'll sleep pretty well tonight, too.

Blue Tongue

Buster was up quite a bit last night. M-lady fed him a couple of times, and I spent some time rocking him to sleep at one point as well. All the times are a bit hazy, but M-lady didn't get very much sleep overall. Fortunately, she was able to nap a little bit during the day.

Bud woke around 6:30 again, and I got up with him and hung out in his room for a while. At about 7:00, he peed in the potty, we put on a clean diaper, and headed to the office to watch a couple of videos on YouTube. M-lady took over for a bit after that so I could snooze a little longer.

We switched at 8:00 or so, and M-lady rested while I watched Bud. We ended up reading some stories together for a while before the cleaners arrived just before 9:00. Nanny J arrived shortly after that, and Bud went off to find her and get some food.

Bud had a good day with Nanny J and M-lady. A little before lunch Nanny J took Bud to get his hair cut. He was very well behaved, and got a lollipop on the way out. When he got home, he came in the office to proudly show off his stained-blue tongue, which he'd clearly examined in the mirror. He was pretty excited, and returned several times to show off.

Bud had a solid nap in the afternoon. Buster was awake for a good portion of the afternoon, however, and Nanny J fed him a bottle after M-lady was tapped out. Buster ended up napping more in the later afternoon.

Grandma Nese arrived while everyone was napping, and she had a snack and rested after her long trip today. Bud was excited to see her when he woke.

Bud ate a really solid dinner without much cajoling, and then played by himself for a while as M-lady, Grandma Nese, and I finished up dinner. He was pretty tractable throughout the bedtime routine, although he didn't tell me that he needed to poop, so we changed a dirty diaper right before bed.

After Bud went to bed, he got up a couple of times saying he needed to pee, and then poop. We've made peeing a part of the bedtime routine, but he managed to squeeze out a few drops. Unsurprisingly, there was no luck pooping. He's clearly using our interest in him sitting on the potty to put off going to bed. Oh well.

Wednesday, May 07, 2008

M-lady stayed busy this morning, taking care of the two boys. She fed Buster, and then I managed to rock him to sleep between about 3:00 and 3:30. Then Bud woke up around 5:00, having leaked through his diaper and wet the bed. M-lady took care of that incident, and then started feeding Buster when he woke at about 6:00. I handled Bud for a bit when he woke around 6:30, but M-lady took care of him around 7:00. I got up to help out a bit around 8:00, but headed back to bed before too long as M-lady had things under control.

M-lady has been handling almost all of Buster's care, and spending a lot of time playing with Bud as well. She's been fantastic. I even managed to get a fair amount of sleep last night as she was up and down taking care of the kids.

Nanny J arrived at 9:00, and got Bud dressed. He came parading into the bedroom showing off his underwear. No diaper! He was very proud, and happy with the comfort of the underwear. He ended up peeing in them a little later in the morning, but now it seems there might be some incentive to get out of diapers, particularly as the weather gets warmer.

Bud didn't nap today, but seemed to stay pretty even tempered throughout the day. He had a good time at school, played with Nanny J, and took a bath in the late afternoon.

I had a work dinner tonight, so M-lady was on her own with the two kids for the first time. Fortunately one of our baby-loving friends came over, and held Buster for a bit while M-lady got Bud and herself fed. Bud was pretty agreeable at bedtime, and went through the routine without too much issue. He was fast asleep when I got home shortly after 9:00.

Learning To Pee

Buster was up around 4:45 this morning, and I got up to start feeding him when Ama came in and took over. I didn't argue too much, and headed back to bed. Bud a couple times in the morning, wanting his nose wiped. I got up with him to wipe his nose when he called out at about 6:00, and lay with him in his bed until he fell asleep again.

He slept until about 7:30, at which point I got up with him and we did the usual morning routine. We got downstairs in time to catch Elmo's World before Nanny J arrived. Bud was a little reluctant to go play with Nanny J, so I let him come to 'work' with me. I sat him on a chair behind me in the office and asked him to sit still while I worked. That lasted all of about thirty seconds before he ran off to find out if Nanny J was doing something more interesting.

Bud had a good lunch, nap, and bath, although I don't think he spent too much time outside today. He'll get out for class tomorrow, which is good.

Bud ate a good dinner this evening, but refused to visit the potty after dinner. We ended up playing a little bit of air band before starting the bedtime routine by watching Oswald. Bud was pretty cooperative this evening throughout the bedtime routine.

Bud did get up and come looking for us a couple of times, as he peed a little bit into his diaper and wanted it changed. We changed a few diapers for him before he fell asleep sometime after 9:00. I suppose if we're trying to get him aware of his urinating, feeling uncomfortable when his diaper is wet is a good thing.

Buster's eating rate has slowed back down to normal proportions, but he's about to grow out of the premie onesies and graduate to size 0. He's huge! Well, maybe pushing on towards eight pounds.

Quick Bath

Buster slept pretty well until about 4:30. I helped Ama get set up to take the shift, which apparently lasted a long time, with Buster eating two bottles of two ounces each before falling asleep again.

Bud woke up at about his usual time, and played with Ama and Agu until Nanny J arrived. Actually, he continued to play with Ama and Agu throughout the day. He headed off to school a little bit late, finally enticed with a cookie. He skipped his nap today as usual on school days, but was pretty happy all through the evening.

Nanny J gave Buster a bath today, since he was a little smelly from his barf last night. She was really, really good at it, and Buster was cleaned quickly, with very little fussing. We were impressed. It's nice to have a professional in the house.

Bud spent a fair portion of the evening singing. He's got a mic stand, a mic, and a willingness to make up the words to rock songs as he goes. I hope he keeps it up, even though he's a little loud.

Bud was mostly well behaved through the bedtime routine, though we had a little delay before we got into PJs. He's been peeing in the toilet like a champ the past couple of days, as Ama and Agu have been taking him up there every 2-3 hours or so. Hopefully we can instill a habit of some sort.

At about 10:15, Bud woke up crying. It's pretty unusual for him to wake up during the night, so we wanted to make sure he wasn't hurting anywhere. It seems it was a nightmare of some sort, although he was too incoherent to make much sense. We comforted him, and I lay in bed with him for a bit while he fell back to sleep.

Grandparent Shuffle

Buster was up from about 3:45 to 4:45, and I was up with him. During that time, Granddad B and Grandma Nese left for the airport to catch a 6:00am flight, so I got to see them off. They've really been wonderfully helpful this week, from helping with the kids to tending the rose bushes.

Bud woke about 7:00, and M-lady fielded him at first. Buster woke shortly afterward, so I got up to help out with Bud. We got him into a dry diaper, and dressed, and then hung out in his room for a bit before heading downstairs for some milk and Sesame Street. M-lady joined us for a bit with Buster while we watched.

After the show, I took Buster for a little while and entertained Bud a bit while M-lady got dressed and had some breakfast. Buster went back to sleep after a few minutes, and Bud went and played with M-lady, so I was able to go back to sleep for a while.

Ama and Agu arrived about 10:30, and Bud was a gem playing with them for most of the day. They brought breakfast with them, and Bud had a good helping. He then proceeded to eat a lot of my lunch with me at noon.

I was heading off to Fry's to run an errand, and Bud was excited to come along until the very last minute. He changed his mind, and happily stayed home playing with Ama and Agu instead. Which was probably for the best, as I had to stand in the return line at Fry's for about 15 minutes.

I got some groceries on the way back, and discovered Bud was napping when I got home. He had a solid nap, and woke a bit after 4:00. After playing with Ama and Agu some more, he ate a big dinner of the fried noodles Agu prepared with his chopsticks.

After dinner he continued with Ama and Agu right up to bedtime, putting together puzzles and dancing along with Jabbawockeez YouTube clips. M-lady got Bud started on the bedtime routine, and I finished it up with him when M-lady was called away by a hungry Buster.

Ama and Agu will be staying until Tuesday morning, and Grandma Nese will be returning for a long weekend starting on Thursday. I hope Bud doesn't get too confused.

Buster mostly did his thing today, although he had a big barf for the first time in a while this evening after Bud went to bed. Fortunately it was over the hardwood floor, and unusually I wasn't holding him at the time. M-lady cleaned herself up while I got the floor and the kid, and after a little more to eat Buster fell asleep again.

Last Minute Binge

Buster woke this morning around 3:45 or so, and I got up to feed him. I gave him about half a bottle and was changing his diaper when Grandma Nese arrived to relieve me. I handed the little guy over and went back to bed. Buster apparently ate a lot again last night, but he slept until 7:30 after that.

Bud woke this morning just before 7:00, and after a diaper change, we headed downstairs to have some milk and watch a little bit of TV. M-lady came to hang out with him for a bit, and I snoozed for another hour or so.

I got up and went out to the Maker Faire this morning with Granddad B. We considered taking Bud with us, but decided that he probably wouldn't get much out of the experience, and was likely to tire out pretty quickly. Bud seemed a little disappointed to be left home, but not overly so, particularly since Ama, Agu, Aunt O, Uncle C, and Cousin C were on their way over to visit for lunch.

Bud had a good morning, although he didn't really eat much lunch. Granddad B and I got home around 1:00, right as the visitors were taking off. We got to say hi to them as they left. Bud was happy to see us, and shortly after I got home he agreed to eat a cold hot dog for lunch.

After he ate, he and I danced together for a little bit before I slowed things down with him. We watched a few YouTube videos, and it seemed he was getting a bit tired. I put Bud down for his nap around 2:00, and he slept solidly until shortly after 4:00. Fortunately, Buster was also asleep for most of that span, and consequently M-lady and I both were as well.

When Bud woke up, he was initially pretty happy. He let me know that he was hungry. When I responded that we should have a quick snack, since it was close to dinner time, he got pretty upset, and stayed that way for a while. I ordered a couple of pizzas, and when it was time for me to go pick them up, Bud got really upset. M-lady talked him down while I headed out to get the pies, and he was pretty happy when I got back.

Bud ate the snack he'd shunned earlier while the rest of us ate dinner. After dinner, I played with him some more before heading back to the kitchen to get some milk and start the bedtime routine.

Bud convinced me to have a little bit of ice cream. Then he ate an orange, and then the slice of pizza we'd set out for him for dinner. He just kept eating. When he finished, he washed it all down with the bedtime milk.

We said goodbye to Granddad B and Grandma Nese before going to sleep, as they'll be heading for the airport before Bud wakes up in the morning. It's been really nice having them here for a week.

Bud was reasonably agreeable through the bedtime routine, and went to sleep shortly after 8:30.

Buster was awake and eating on and off from about 4:30 to 8:30pm or so. He had periods of alert wakefulness, and we took the opportunity to try to shoot some family photos. Results to be posted soon.

Up and Down Day

Buster was apparently up a lot this morning between 3:30 or so and 6:00, and finished up four bottles during that time period. Hungry kid! Grandma Nese took that long shift, and I got to sleep a bit. Bud woke around 6:30, and I got up with him. We chilled in his bed for a while, and shortly after 7:00 headed downstairs. I got him set up with milk and TV and handed him off to M-lady.

Bud and M-lady had a really good morning together, reading lots of stories together. Nanny J arrived at 9:00, and Bud was good for a little while, but started getting really whiney and difficult around the time that Nanny J and Grandma Nese took him to the library for story hour. M-lady took Buster with her on an errand right around the same time that they were returning.

Bud was a bit difficult until lunch, at which point he perked up a bit. I was making myself a sandwich when they came into the kitchen, and Bud asked for a cold dog (non-heated hot dog). So I provided one for him, which he munched happily.

After lunch, Nanny J tried to get him to nap, but Bud wasn't interested. He joined her while she ate her lunch, and apparently mooched a bit from her. Then he napped from about 2:00 to 4:00.

I heard him playing happily with Grandma Nese after his nap, and then it sounded like he had a good time for his bath as well. Nanny J left shortly after that, and I played with Bud for a bit until dinnertime. He really likes me to swing him around by his ankles until he gets dizzy. Which is much better to do before dinner.

Bud was a little upset about interrupting play for dinner, but eventually realized that he was hungry and ate a huge amount of broccoli, with some chicken thrown in as well. We all had a little bit of ice cream after dinner for dessert, and Bud got his own bowl.

The bedtime routine went reasonably smoothly, with Bud being goaded along by promises of watching YouTube videos on my iPhone. We mostly watched concert footage of Credence Clearwater Revival, and Bud enjoyed that quite a bit. He was in bed a little after 8:00, and went to sleep without problems.

Hopefully Buster will sleep a little more soundly tonight, and has slowed down on his growth spurt a bit.

A Night in Bits and Pieces

Due to bad planning, I didn't really sleep much last night. Oh well.

M-lady fed Buster at about 1:00, when I first went to sleep. She came to bed at about 3:40, and handed the monitor to me. Buster woke about five minutes later, and I got up to feed him a bottle and a half. It was about 5:30 before I got to bed again. Then Bud woke this morning at about 6:30 with a poopy diaper. I hung out with him in his room until about 7:30, at which point we headed downstairs to start the morning routine.

Both the kids seems to have a pretty good day. Buster seems to be doing a growth spurt, as his intake has increased by about 50-75% over the past 24 hours. This has left M-lady a bit sore, but fortunately he doesn't mind supplementing a bit with formula.

Bud had a good time with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and went grocery shopping with them in the morning. He had a good lunch, and a nap in the later afternoon organized by Nanny J.

We've stepped up the potty training on Bud a little bit. He discovered that he can pee standing up, and that's worked pretty well. He tried to poop on the toilet before bed tonight, without success. We'll start putting him on the toilet first thing in the morning, too.

We gave Buster a bath after dinner. Buster didn't like it too much, but he's certainly a lot cleaner. We got a lot of the dead skin that's being sloughed off cleared away. The bath was a family affair, with everyone in the hot bathroom. Bud took pictures again.

Bud was a little reluctant to go to bed tonight, but eventually settled down. I hope he sleeps well, and wakes sometime after 7:00 tomorrow.
