Last Day of the Year

Bud slept in this morning until about 8:30 again, which was nice. I got up with him, and we got into a clean diaper and down to watch a little bit of Winnie-the-Pooh. After a bit M-lady came down to hang out with the little dude, and I snoozed for another 30 minutes or so before getting together and heading out for the office.

M-lady was reorganizing the hall closet as I left, and Bud was helping. I let him know I was going and he tossed a "Goodbye!" over his shoulder as I headed out the door. He had a good day with M-lady.

Bud insisted on a cold hotdog for breakfast (in the bun), and ate pretty much the whole thing.

They went to the mall in the late morning, and Bud was really well behaved while they ran some errands. They had lunch together at Orange Julius, where Bud was willing to share his drink, but told M-lady, "Don't drink it all!" in just the right tone of voice. He also enjoyed the little train ride, but was a bit startled when it started to rock and move after they put money in it. They waited until it stopped moving for him to play in it a bit.

At home, they watched some Animusic while addressing holiday cards to the neighbors we've met so far, and then Bud had a great time opening mailboxes as they went around delivering the cards.

I arrived home around 5:00ish, and played with Bud for a few minutes before setting him down in front of an episode of WordWorld so I could cook dinner. Bud ate a little bit at dinner, but not a huge meal. He was pretty well behaved, though. After dinner I played with him for a bit before I discovered he was stinky, so we headed upstairs and took a shower. Bud was really well behaved all evening, and enjoyed the shower quite a bit. I still think we should get him a few new bath and shower toys, though.

Bud spent a few minutes dancing naked in front of the mirror, checking out his moves. We eventually corralled him and got him into PJs, and started the bedtime routine. He was pretty tired after not napping, and went to sleep pretty quickly around 8:00. He asked for me to leave the music off tonight to which he usually falls asleep, but it certainly didn't keep him awake.

Happy New Year to all!

Afternoon Nap

Bud woke this morning just before I took Aunt K to the airport. He was pretty upset that I was leaving without him, and M-lady reported that he seemed a bit groggy and confused (having just awoken), and seemed to think that I wasn't coming back.

Before they managed to get that sorted out, however, Bud displayed a new skill: he unlocked and opened the front door. When she heard the door open, M-lady rushed out to find him looking out on the threshold, unwilling to go out without shoes on. As soon as he figures out how to get his shoes on by himself, there will be no stopping him.

In any case, after M-lady explained that I was coming back, they had a good morning together. They had some milk, and watched Winnie-the-Pooh, and played with toys in the living room. Bud seems to be doing more pretend play recently, setting up scenarios and using toys to represent different things (some wooden CD rack dividers were sandwiches this morning).

He was pretty happy when I got home, and we hung out together for a few minutes before Nanny J arrived with her husband for a short visit. We got to chat, show the house to them, and let Nanny J know about some of Bud's new tricks (climbing out of the crib, opening the door, etc.). It was a pleasant visit, and while Bud was a little bit shy at first, he was dancing for them pretty quickly.

M-lady took over pretty quickly at that point, as I seem to have caught the cold that Bud and then M-lady had earlier this week, and I went and napped for about 2 hours. M-lady was fantastic and watched Bud all morning.

They had another pleasant couple of hours together, although Bud didn't really eat much lunch at lunchtime. I got up a little past noon, and Bud and I worked together a bit in the office before babysitter G showed up around 1:00.

M-lady had arranged for babysitter G to come over so we could get out and get some errands done. Bud was a bit shy at first, but I set them down in front of Winnie-the-Pooh and we managed to steal away without any fuss.

Bud ate a PB and J sandwich and a cookie with babysitter G, and they played together for a bit. Bud apparently announced to babysitter G that he wanted to take a nap after a little while, and proceeded to sleep for two hours. Woot! His first voluntary afternoon nap in more than a week! He was a bit groggy when we returned at about 5:00, having woken up shortly before.

He came with me to drop off babysitter G, and we came straight home to dinner after that. Bud had a little bit of ravioli, but not much. We played with Lincoln Logs for a few minutes after dinner, but Bud got stinky shortly so we headed up to change his diaper.

Bud and I had a quick shower, after which we managed to get him into his PJs and downstairs. I noticed it was only about 7:00, so we had a video chat with Grandma W and Granddad B for a little while. Bud spent the majority of the chat climbing on me, and pinching Grandma and Granddad's noses. Not sure why he's started up with that.

After a pleasant chat, we watched a little more Winnie-the-Pooh with milk, and did the bedtime routine. The past couple of nights we've ready from a book of nursery tales: tonight it was the Three Billy-Goats Gruff. I'll post the name of the actual book we're reading from tomorrow... it's pretty good, and has a lot of different cultures' tales.

Another Visitor

Bud woke this morning a little before 8:00, and I got up with him. M-lady's folks had departed early in the morning, and the younger Aunt K had arrived the previous evening after Bud went to sleep. Aunt K was still sleeping in the family room, so we quietly went downstairs to get milk and came back upstairs to watch Winnie-the-Pooh in bed with M-lady.

Bud and I got up and hung out with Aunt K downstairs for a little while, and then I took a bit of a nap when M-lady came down. They spent time hanging out, with some microphone singing demonstrations. They eventually got Bud fed and dressed for the day in an outfit received from Grandma Nese, but it took a while.

I joined them again around lunchtime, and everyone was enjoying leftovers. Bud ended up not really eating very much, but he seemed cheerful. We figured he would eat when he got hungry.

After lunch we opened a few more Christmas presents from Aunt K and Grandma Nese. Bud was pretty excited, although he insisted that we open the gifts in the living room. He got an Ohio State mug, bowl, fork, and spoon which he really enjoyed playing with. We'll have to wash them so he can start using them right away.

We played a little bit of Rock Band after that, and then had a video call with Grandma Nese. Bud was a bit reserved, but enjoyed seeing Grandma.

While M-lady took a nap, Bud, Aunt K, and I headed out to the grocery store to get some shopping done and do a little reconnaissance. It turned out to be a really nice Safeway, and Bud had a good time, actually riding in the cart for most of the trip. He was really well behaved, though, and it was good to get him out of the house. He helped carry bags in when we got home, and then had a snack of a PB and J sandwich when we arrived.

We hung out at home briefly and got a few book boxes unpacked onto the built-in shelves before packing up and heading out for dinner. We went to the mall, and Bud fell asleep in the car on the way. I carried him in to the CPK, and he slept on my shoulder and in my lap right up until the food arrived, overall for a good 45 minutes or so. He wasn't very upset when he woke, although he didn't really eat much for dinner.

After dinner we had fun wandering around the mall for a bit, and even stopped at a Cold Stone for some ice cream. As expected, Bud really enjoyed the ice cream. We headed home directly after finishing up, and started the bedtime routine. Bud was a bit rambunctious as we got ready for bed, but ended up falling asleep pretty quickly and quietly at about 8:30.

Mama Birthday

Bud woke this morning around 8:00, and I got up with him to change a poopy diaper before Agu stepped in. Bud happily got dressed with Agu and headed downstairs to watch Winnie-the-Pooh and have some milk.

Ama and M-lady took off for a quick shopping trip a little later in the morning, and I joined Bud and Agu for a little while before spending some time working on M-lady's computer, which had decided to give up the ghost sometime during the move. Bud joined me for a while, handing me screwdrivers and the like.

I needed to dust out one of the PC enclosures, and asked Bud to go get the vacuum cleaner for me. He and Agu went and got it, and after I was finished with it Bud proceeded to vacuum most of the house. He had a great time with that.

He had a reasonable lunch of noodles and soup made by Ama and Agu, and then he once again didn't take a nap. We spent some time being mellow, watching TV, and reading stories in his room, but there was no napping. Hopefully after the holidays we can get him back on a regular schedule.

I got him outside for a bit, and we wandered around the house checking things out. I tried to get Bud to ride his tricycle, but he wasn't interested. We checked out the rosebushes, and I made sure to carefully point out the thorns. He seemed to have a fair amount of respect for the bushes, probably a product of his previous encounter a few days ago. I cycled the hot tub we have in the back, and Bud took a good look at that. Finally, we went out front and picked a few clemetines before heading in and snacking on them.

Aunt O and Uncle C arrived around 4:30, and we had dinner before too long after that. We had some of M-lady's favorites, since it was her birthday. Bud had a little trouble distinguishing between M-lady's birthday and his own, and we argued about it a little bit throughout the evening. But he enjoyed dinner thoroughly, particularly the shrimp dish. He wasn't as keen on the cong yo bing as the rest of the family, though.

M-lady opened some gifts after dinner, and Bud helped a little with that. Bud got a little restless, though, so I sat him down and we chilled in front of Winnie-the-Pooh until it was time for cake.

Bud really enjoyed his cake. Afterwards, the whole family had a good time playing Rock Band. Bud showed off particularly well developed drum skills, and helped out on all the songs. It was fun for everybody.

At about 8:00, Uncle C and Aunt O took their leave, and I started getting Bud ready for bed. We got into PJs, watched a little more Winnie-the-Pooh, and brushed teeth. We said goodnight and goodbye to Ama and Agu, who will be heading home early tomorrow morning. Bud fell asleep pretty quickly when I dropped him into his crib at about 8:30.

Chilly Picnic

Bud woke this morning at about 8:00, and M-lady went to get him. I got to sleep in a bit while Bud had his morning milk and watched Winnie-the-Pooh with M-lady, Ama, and Agu.

In the mid morning, Ama and Agu prepared a picnic lunch, which Bud happily toted with them to the park. It was apparently pretty cold at the park, but Bud had a great time, and really enjoyed the picnic. They came home pretty quickly all the same, though. At home Bud had some PB and J, as well as some egg salad sandwich for lunch while M-lady and I were off running errands.

Bud had a good afternoon, but didn't nap again. He was a little shy when friend J visited in the early afternoon, but waved and interacted with her from a distance. Our real-estate agent arrived shortly afterwards, and Bud wanted to help us sign the docs we were working on. He got a bit upset when we tried to pull him away, and he eventually went down for a little quiet time, although he didn't nap.

He was up again in time for dinner, and really enjoyed Ama and Agu's spaghetti and chicken. I played with him for a bit after dinner, mostly with his Lincoln Logs. He really enjoys destroying structures right now, and is rarely patient enough to finish a house before knocking it down. But he's really having a great time with them.

We took a shower around 6:30, and as usual Bud had a pretty good time in the shower. He ran around naked for a bit after we took him out, and it was a bit of a challenge to get him back into PJs.

We watched some more Winnie-the-Pooh with milk before bedtime, and then read some of the Piglet is Entirely Surrounded By Water story before going to sleep. Pooh is clearly the big thing right now.

Just Hanging Out

Bud had a good day today. He woke around 7:30, and after I got him up and took him downstairs, he met up with Ama and did his morning TV watching with her. He spent most of the day playing with one grandparent or another, and was happy and helpful all day.

I saw him briefly mid-morning before I headed for the old house to get some chores done. He was running laps around Agu in the living room, and having a grand time. He apparently skipped his nap, but was very quiet around the others (Ama, Agu, and M-lady) who took turns napping.

I arrived home around 5:15, just in time for dinner. Bud melted down shortly thereafter, which wasn't really surprising given that he'd been running around most of the day and had skipped his nap. I chilled with him in his room for a bit, and he was asleep by 5:30.

We let him sleep for a little more than an hour, and then I woke him and we watched a little bit of The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh, which was a Christmas gift from Grandma Nese and Granddad B. Bud really enjoyed the first story, and was anxious to watch more after dinner.

He ate a solid dinner, and we had a little bit of caramel and chocolate popcorn for dessert before starting the bedtime routine. We got into PJs and then had some milk while watching some more Winnie-the-Pooh.

I tucked Bud into bed and read him a Pooh story, and he fell asleep pretty quickly after that. We're just starting to get into stories with fewer pictures. He still asks to see the pictures on each page, but is content listening to me read for a while between each picture.

Bud fell asleep pretty quickly when we turned out the light a bit after 8:00.

A Great Christmas Day

Bud slept in this morning until about 8:30, which was fine by us. We figure it's probably the last Christmas we'll get to sleep in that late for a while. M-lady and I got up and got him together, keeping him from heading downstairs to check out his loot until we were all set.

He was of course pretty excited to see the tree, with lots of presents and a new tricycle waiting for him. We checked the plate of cookies, which just had a few crumbs on it. No note from Santa this year (he was busy putting a tricycle together). After a quick breakfast snack, we figured we couldn't hold him off any longer and got started on his stocking.

At 9:00, we set up a video call with Grandma W, and Granddad B, and then also with Aunt K and Cousin Little Rugger. Yay for Apple iChat multipoint! It worked really well, and was almost like having the whole family together, even though we're spread out across the country. The relatives got to see their gifts being opened, which was nice. Bud was very appreciative of his gifts, and immediately ran off camera to play with them. We could entice him back on camera to open another gift, but that was about it.

While we were connected, M-lady's parents, Ama and Agu, arrived. Bud was excited to see them, too, and showed off his new toys. He was particularly taken with a little tool pack, with a little toy electric drill. He was drilling holes in things ("fixing" them) all day.

We did a video call with Granddad B and Grandma Nese a few minutes later, and Bud got to open his gifts from them. He was thrilled with a little soft remote control car, and played with that for a good part of the day as well. All in all the video calls did a fantastic job of bringing the family together, and letting the remote grandparents share a part of the day with Bud.

Ama and Agu prepared french toast for lunch, which was great. Bud had a piece, then went back to playing with new toys. He kept himself mostly entertained all afternoon.

Aunt O and Uncle C arrived at about 4:30 or so, and we got dinner on the table. But ate a mouthful of turkey and a piece of broccoli before wanting to get up and play some more. We couldn't get him to eat much, but he didn't seem to be too cranky, so we let it slide.

There was more playing in the evening, and another round of gifts with the local folks. Bud had a good time handing out gifts for that, and got a couple more items from Santa.

Uncle C, Bud, and I played a little bit of Rock Band before Uncle C and Aunt O took off, and a little after 7:00 M-lady and I corralled Bud for a shower. That led into the bedtime routine, and he was asleep shortly after 8:00. He maintained a pretty happy disposition for an exciting day and skipping his nap. We didn't managed to get him out of the house, but overall it was a really fun day with the little dude. Merry Christmas, all!

Merry Christmas To All

Bud woke this morning shortly after 8:00, and M-lady got up with him (Thanks, M-lady!). They had a good morning together, reading a book and then watching one of our earlier dance shows on DVD. Around 10:00 they snuck into the bedroom, and Bud checked if I was sleeping in his not-so-subtle way.

I got up with Bud while M-lady snoozed for a bit, and we danced together in the living room for a while. After I was a bit winded, we watched some Animusic segments on YouTube while I cleaned up my email. Bud was really pleasant all morning.

We had noodles for lunch, but Bud really only had a very little bit before declaring himself done and he went back to playing. He mostly managed to avoid a nap this afternoon, although he did sit quietly in his crib looking at books for a while.

After his not nap, I finally managed to convince him to come out for a walk to the park with me. He resisted for a while, but finally acquiesced when I suggested we go for a ride in the car instead (I suppose the ride in the car was even more distasteful for some unknown reason). We wandered down the street to the local park, where Bud had a great time playing on the playground.

After a fair bit of running around and playing in the sand, we eventually wandered back home. Bud wanted to ride on my shoulders for the second half of the walk, so when we arrived home that way I let him pick some clementines from the tree we have on our doorstep, and he really enjoyed stretching up from my shoulders to grab some. We munched a few after we got inside.

We played a bit in the family room, and Bud watched me play a little of an older Xbox game, Crimson Skies, while M-lady prepared dinner. He wanted a turn as well, so I let him fly the plane for a bit.

He ate a solid dinner, and helped us clean up the living room a bit before we got started on the bedtime routine. I explained about Santa a couple times during the day, so Bud was ready when we set out cookies, and enjoyed our reading of The Night Before Christmas. We checked Santa's progress on the NORAD Santa tracker, and then hurried off to bed.

Bud went to sleep pretty quickly, and M-lady and I worked to get all the presents set up and under the tree. Hopefully the morning will be as magical for him as I remember when I was young.

Up And Out

Bud actually slept in this morning until about 8:10, at which point I got up with him. We headed downstairs, got some milk, and watched a little bit of TV to wake up.

A short time later, we had a fun video call with Grandma W and Granddad B. Bud was a little reluctant at first, but enjoyed the call a bit later. We wandered around the house with the laptop, giving a virtual tour. We also opened the big package the grandparents sent, and we each opened a Christmas tree decoration from them. Bud got a little drum kit ornament, which he really liked. But his favorite was the big box with the styrofoam peanuts. He ended up playing with the box for most of the day, stirring the peanuts, pretending to eat them, and eventually climbing into the box.

Later in the morning, around 11:00, I took Bud out for a shopping expedition. We picked up a gift for a relative, wandered through a music store, and then headed to Home Depot to pick up some lightbulbs. Bud was really well behaved in the store, and drew some attention with his cuteness.

We picked up lunch at KFC on the way home, and M-lady and I ate while Bud played. He eventually had some PB and J, and we played some games together on the Wii. I also spent some time in the afternoon working on getting some of our desktop PCs back up and running, and Bud helped with that as well. He was generally happy and tractable all day.

At about 3:30, I let him know it was nap time, and he pitched a bit of a fit. we dropped him into his crib, and I left the room for a little bit. M-lady turned her back, and Bud jumped out of the crib and headed for the door. So much for keeping him is his crib!

He demonstrated the new skill for me a bit later, but we did get him to settle down and lie quietly for a bit. I don't think he actually ever napped, though. M-lady and I spent some time making plans about a bed for him.

He got up a little after 5:00, and we played a little bit more before starting on dinner. Bud had some eggs and more PB and J. We had a good shower, which was much easier with the new shower heads (handheld) that I installed yesterday.

The bedtime routine was started a little early due to lack of nap, and we put Bud in bed around 7:45. No telling if he'll stay there.

Really Late Nap

Bud first started making noise this morning at about 7:00, and I got up to check on him. I asked if he wanted to get up, and he replied that he wanted to sleep some more. I told him I was going to sleep more, too, and that he could call me if he needed me.

He called out again around 7:30, but again didn't want to get up. I lay on the floor next to his crib (nice carpeting now!), and dozed with him until about 8:15, when he said he wanted to get up. He had a really wet diaper, and had leaked through and wet his pajamas. For some reason he didn't want to change his diaper, though, and put up a struggle. He was a bit grouchy this morning until he got something to eat a short time later.

I did a run to Home Depot this morning while Bud ate and played with M-lady and Ama, Agu, and Aunt S. He was apparently really charming after he'd gotten some food, and put on quite a drumming show while they sang Christmas carols. Ama and Agu gave him an early Christmas gift: a microphone stand and a couple of old microphones. Bud had a great time playing the rock star. He was singing Knights of Cydonia when I got home.

Bud had a good lunch of sandwiches (deli roast beef and PB and J), and spent time hanging out with me in the afternoon. Aunt S left with her son to be with family in San Francisco, and Ama and Agu departed for Aunt O and Uncle C's for the remainder of the weekend. M-lady napped and then did an errand, so it was me and Bud for most of the afternoon.

Bud wasn't really interested in napping, and I wasn't interested in pushing the issue, so the nap was skipped. In it's stead, we watched some of the DVDs of M-lady's and my dance shows, as well as the entirety of Riverdance. It was a pretty mellow time.

We had dinner when M-lady arrived home, but Bud didn't really eat very much. He'd had a lot of milk during the afternoon, though.

After dinner I went out to do some Christmas shopping for Bud and M-lady. Bud was upset at my leaving, and apparently hung on the doorknob and howled for me for about 15 minutes. M-lady took him to his crib, where he howled for a few more minutes before passing out.

He was still asleep when I returned at about 7:45, so we got him up to try and get him some dinner. He still wasn't interested, but did have some more milk while we watched a Little Einsteins. After that it was the usual bedtime routine, and he was in bed and nearly asleep by 8:30. Hope the late nap didn't screw up his schedule too much.

We didn't get him out of the house today, with the excuse that he's still recovering from his cold and it was really chilly out today. We didn't give him any more of the prednisolone today (even though he asked for his medicine), so hopefully he's far enough past the cold to not have any problems tonight.

A Rose Encounter

Bud slept through the night just fine, and woke at about 7:30. I checked on him, and he said he wanted to sleep some more. So I left him to it. About 15 minutes later I went to check, just as Ama was on her way in. She got Bud up and going.

Bud had a fun, high-energy morning. He didn't get out of the house very far, but he had a great time running around in the living room with Ama, Agu, and Aunt S.

I spent most of the day working from home, or more accurately, from the bedroom. Ama and Agu are staying in the room slated to be our office, so I've had to relocate some of the computer stuff into our bedroom temporarily. I could hear considerable giggles coming from downstairs while I worked.

We all had a great lunch cooked by Ama, Agu, and Aunt S. Afterwards I headed back to the bedroom to work for a while longer. A little bit later I heard Bud crying, and M-lady came to ask for my assistance. It seems Bud smacked one of the many rose bushes in the yard, and poked and scratched up his hand pretty well.

I spent some time with him calming him down, getting his hand cleaned up, and putting on a couple of band-aids. Bud was pretty good about the whole procedure, although I did have to put a band-aid on myself before he was willing to put one on. Then he wanted lots.

I let M-lady know that with the prevalence of rose bushes in the yard, the object lesson was bound to happen before too long. Bud should be a lot more careful around the roses now.

Bud was pretty grouchy and upset for a lot of the afternoon. He didn't want to nap, and didn't want to take a bath when he got up. He fussed quite a bit on both those counts. M-lady and I speculated that the cumulative stress of the move, Christmas, grandparents, and being sick is probably contributing to the excessive grumpiness.

Bud eventually calmed down in time for dinner after Nanny J took he leave, and ate several helpings of noodles. He was generally OK after dinner, but took a little bit of handling.

After dinner we all decorated the tree together. Bud's method of attaching ornaments, however, was to throw them at the lower branches of the tree. He did help with the lights and some of the soft ornaments.

Bud and I took a shower together as we started getting ready for bed. Bud was generally well behaved for the bedtime routine. We watched Meet The Orchestra for a bit, then said goodnights and headed for bed. He fell asleep pretty quickly.

Pretty Quick Recovery

After being up from 12:00am to 4:00am or so, Bud slept in until about 9:30. At that point I was already out picking up his prescription, and M-lady was off at a meeting. Bud was pretty happy to see me when I returned at about 9:40.

We got Bud into a clean diaper, and headed downstairs to give him his first dose of prednisolone. Bud gulped it down, chased it with some apple juice, and then got down from his chair and bounded out of the room. He was pretty chipper.

I managed to slow him down by putting on My Neighbor Totoro for him on the portable DVD player, which he sat and watched with Nanny J for most of the morning.

Bud did take a reasonable nap in the afternoon. When he woke, Ama and Agu had arrived, with their good friend Auntie S. Bud was a little reserved about Auntie S, but she actually managed to get him to take his medicine while he was being a bit recalcitrant. I suppose it's a skill learned of mothering four boys.

Bud bounced around for most of the evening with the grandparents. We didn't get around to decorating the tree tonight, but we did light a fire in the living room fireplace for the first time. It's a gas-based cement log deal, and while not particularly authentic, it is very convenient.

We had beef stew for dinner brought by Ama and Agu, and it was wonderful to eat a home-cooked meal rather than have fast food again. Our three guests spent the evening alternately entertaining Bud and unpacking our kitchen. What wonderful guests! Bud was pretty energetic all evening, so did require some watching.

Bud was up a little late, but I did get him to take his last dose of prednisolone of the day without protest. He got to pick his treat after he took his meds: he selected popcorn, so we all shared a bag. After popcorn, we watched a little bit of Meet The Orchestra, brushed teeth, and headed for bed.

Bud didn't want to read stories so much tonight, but did ask for some water after being in bed for 20 minutes or so. He was asleep shortly after 9:00. I heard him cough once a little later, but it didn't sound too bad, and he did get three doses of his meds today, so I'm not too worried about a repeat tonight.

Just a Little More Stress

Bud slept just fine through the night, waking at about 7:30. I got up to check on him, and he happily greeted me as I walked in. He was excited to get up and head downstairs for milk and a video. Bud had a bit of a runny nose in the morning, but I didn't think much of it other than to go looking for Kleenex.

Nanny J arrived at 9:00, and she and Bud had a pretty standard day. They didn't end up going out very far, since it was a bit wet at times during the day. But Bud did have a good long nap in the afternoon, and a bath before I got home.

Nanny J left at about 5:30, a few minutes before M-lady got home. When M-lady arrived, we decided to order a pizza for delivery. When I mentioned pizza, Bud said, "Ding-dong! Mailman bring pizza for me!" I guess he remembered the pizza delivery we had a couple days ago. In the past, I've always gone out to pick up the pizza, since it was closer, faster, and cheaper.

After dinner, it was getting late, but we decided to bundle up and go get a Christmas tree. Bud had a great time running around the lot, and with all our new space we decided to splurge a bit and got a big noble fir (not huge, just big). We got it home, set up in the stand, cleaned up the pine needles all over the living room, and bundled Bud off for bed.

The bedtime routine was pretty standard, and Bud went right to sleep, since it was about an hour past his usual bedtime.

At about 11:30, I heard the dreaded barking cough, and M-lady and I dug out the humidifier to try and stave off a trip to the ER. About 30 minutes later, Bud woke with an ugly cough and bad strider. We did the shower thing, and walked outside a little bit, but decided to head into the ER at about 12:45.

Bud was really good. As we were packing up to go, he said (in a quiet little croaky voice), "I need to go to doctor." We assured him the doctor would help him feel better, and headed on our way.

At the ER, Bud was willing to stand on the scale on his own for the first time. He only put up a very minor fuss when we took his jackets and PJs off, but didn't protest too much. He was able to take the new, not-quite-so-foul-tasting steroid they gave him orally, prednisolone, and consequently didn't need a shot. Within an hour he was pretty happy, playing with the cool mist nebulizer and chatting with nurses.

We didn't get home until about 3:45, and Bud was in bed after a quick story by 4:00. He fell asleep pretty quickly, even after being so wound up. It was disappointing to have another case of croup, since we thought he'd outgrown it, but at least the routine is getting smoother.

Placeholder Post

This is just a placeholder. I'll finish up the post tomorrow. Short story: Bud slept through the night, had a good day, we had delivered pizza for dinner, went out and got a Christmas tree, and went to bed. Around midnight he coughed a bit, then woke up with full blown croup and strider. So off to the ER, where he got fixed up pretty quickly. We got home a little before 4:00am, and now I'm going to bed. We're all fine, but tired. Will fill in the details tomorrow.

Moving Day!

Bud called out a few times before we got to sleep, but never really woke all the way up. He woke in the morning a little after 7:00, and M-lady got up to check on him. He actually decided to rest in his crib for a while, so M-lady got herself ready while I de-grogged and eventually got Bud up and changed.

The movers and Nanny J arrived at 8:00, while Bud was drinking his morning milk and watching Animusic. We were mostly ready for them, but things were pretty busy for the first hour or so. Nanny J got Bud dressed while M-lady and I directed the first stages of the move.

There were nine movers with three trucks, so things happened quite quickly. Bud watched it all very solemnly. By about 10:15 we were all packed up, and caravaned down to the new place. Nanny J took Bud over to her place for lunch, since we wouldn't have the kitchen functional for a while. We were pretty much wrapped up and in place by about 2:00.

After a pleasant afternoon, Bud and Nanny J came to the new house at about 3:30. Bud was excited to see all his stuff here (although mostly still in boxes), and we all did a tour of the rooms. Eventually we got Bud going with his PlayHut tents in the living room, where we don't actually have any furniture yet. He was able to set them all up and make a big tent city, which kept him entertained for a while.

Nanny J took her leave at about 5:30, and I tried to keep Bud from tearing up the carpet in the bonus room for a bit. Around 6:00ish we headed out to go to Bud's preschool Holiday Sing-Along, and Bud protested mightily while getting into the car. After driving for about 5 minutes, he passed out cold. Not really surprising, since this is his third day in a row without a nap.

We woke him just before 6:30 when we arrived, and he watched and listened to the singing very carefully. He didn't join in, although they've supposedly been working on these songs in class for the past few weeks. We said hellos to a couple of friends before heading for home.

We picked up sushi on the way home for dinner, and Bud ate a lot of carrot rolls and California rolls. He really digs the crab. We were able to sit down at our table in the breakfast nook and all eat dinner together, which was nice.

It was pretty much time to start the bedtime routine when we finished dinner, so I got Bud into his PJs and we watched some of his Meet the Orchestra DVD on the portable player. I'll need to get the TV hooked up before too long. Bud was amenable to the routine tonight, as he was pretty tired. He fell asleep without any problems at all in his new room.

Packers

Bud woke at about 7:20 this morning, but didn't want to get up. M-lady got up with him, and when he wasn't interested in getting out of bed, came back to get dressed herself, since the packers were due to arrive at 8:00.

I got Bud out of bed and into a dry diaper at about 7:45, and we sat down in front of the portable DVD player to watch Animusic with morning milk, since I'd disconnected the entertainment center the night before. Bud was at first disappointed the big TV wasn't working, but I think watching on the portable is novel and exciting for him.

The packers arrived a little before 8:00. It was five women: the wives of the movers, apparently. M-lady let them know what to pack and what to leave for us to finish up, and they went to work.

Bud warmed up to them pretty quickly. I think they gave off the Mommy Vibe, and him being well rested and on home turf probably helped. He watched them for a little bit, and then after Nanny J arrived and he got dressed, he ran around 'helping'... sweeping the floor, handing out little boxes, etc. It was pretty cute, and all the packers were charmed.

Bud had a solid lunch shoveled in by Nanny J, and they headed off for school. I was just returning from a trip to the new place when they were leaving, and Bud gave me a happy wave.

He was pretty happy on his return, and played with me in the garage for a few minutes before it was time to go in. He had a bit of a meltdown at that point, though. We eventually got him inside, and Nanny J managed to calm him down. He was hurting for nap in the afternoon and evening, though.

I had another trip to the new place in the late afternoon, and got home shortly after Nanny J had left. We all played together among the boxes a bit in the evening, and Bud didn't really eat much for dinner. He absconded with about half my bagel, but that was about it. After playing with lego and a few other available toys, we started the bedtime routine at about 7:00.

We watched a Little Einsteins on the DVD player, but he started resisting when it was time to move on with the routine. We got a little farther after a quick ice cream break (a two-bite dove miniature), but he broke down when it was time to read a story. After wailing in his crib for a bit, I got him to settle down and read him a quick story while he was tucked in. The tired guy fell asleep pretty quickly after that.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day, and we'll finish up in the new house! Apologies to the grandparents for lack of video calls this weekend... we've been a little busy.

Overexcited

Bud woke this morning around 7:30, and M-lady got up with him. They had a pretty good morning together, watching a Little Einsteins and getting some packing done. Bud found the edge pieces for his foam floor mats, and spent some time figuring out how they worked, putting them on, and then pulling them all up and putting them away.

I joined them a little past 9:00, and after a little bit of packing a loading we all headed over to the new house in two loaded cars, taking some fragiles and awkward items. M-lady took off a little before Bud and I, and was already unloading when we arrived.

We unloaded a bunch of stuff, and Bud had fun running around and checking out the Christmas lights we had strung up earlier. Eventually M-lady headed for home, and I managed to round up Bud and we headed out.

Bud was pretty reluctant to go, and cried a bit. It was about noon, so I figured he was tired and hungry. After chilling in his crib for a bit, he came out and had half a PB and J for lunch.

We spent the day packing, and Bud was pretty good for most of the afternoon. He watched the Animusic DVDs, and played with a broom and vacuum. He even warmed up to our helpers, friend D from mommy group, and T and K from dance. Thanks you so much, helpers!

Bud spent some time in the garage with me before dinner, and when it was time to go in he crashed a bit. Friend J from mommy group brought dinner over, which was really seriously appreciated and enjoyed. Thanks, J! I eventually got Bud to quiet down and come out to dinner, but he stayed attached to me, remora-like, through most of the meal. Towards the end of dinner I managed to tempt him with some breadsticks, but he never really ate much for dinner. Guess the growth spurt is over.

After dinner he cooled down and had fun playing with T and K, and was fine until bedtime. He asked for a bowl of cereal without the cereal, wanting to drink milk from a bowl. In the spirit of choosing my battles, I gave him a bit of milk in a bowl.

We watched some of Cars before bed. He didn't want to go to bed, though, so there was a little bit of a struggle getting him into his PJs. He was in bed before 8:00, though, and fell asleep pretty quickly (no nap and all).

At about 10:00, Bud woke up thrashing. It took a while for me to calm him down. He was half-asleep, and I think when I got him all the way awake he settled down a bit. We watched a quiet YouTube video, and Bud fell back asleep after a bit. Hopefully the stress doesn't bother him too much more.

Extra Shy

Bud woke briefly this morning at about 4:30, then woke for good a little bit before 7:30. We got up, changed him into dry PJs (the fire engine ones at his request), and watched a couple of Pingus followed by an episode of Sesame Street. M-lady took over at about 8:40, and got Bud dressed while I snoozed for a few minutes.

At about 9:45 we all started getting ready to go to our Mommy Group holiday party. It took a little while to build up the proper momentum, but we eventually got out the door and arrived at the party around 10:30.

Bud was fine walking up to the door, but went into ultra-shy mode when the door opened. I carried him for a while with his face buried in my shoulder, and he refused to chat, wave, play, drink, or snack. After a while, some encouragement, and some understanding from our host, we found a quiet corner where he and I looked at a found book of airplanes.

It seemed that Bud was much more upset by the adults than the kids, which suggested to me that school is making him more comfortable around toddlers. Later in the morning, he played a little bit with some of the available toys, and didn't mind the surrounding kids as much as he has in the past.

We eventually packed up and headed home. Bud did happily wave goodbye to people, much to their amusement. It was nearing lunchtime as we drove home, so we started in on lunch as soon as we arrived.

After a bit of resistance, he eventually settled in to have a fair bit of rice and shrimp, with a little bit of broccoli. After we'd all eaten, we got started on the serious packing.

Bud helped a bit, although he was a bit underfoot for a while as well. As the afternoon progressed, and Bud started getting a little tired, we put on Riverdance for him. It kept him entertained while we boxed and labeled.

Friend E arrived around 2:00 and did a great job loading boxes with media. She also enjoyed watching Riverdance with Bud. At around 3:15 Bud was clearly tired, and didn't want to watch anymore TV. I put him down for his nap, but he was pretty upset about it.

E and I took a load of stuff to the new house while M-lady stayed with Bud. She actually ended up rocking him to sleep on her lap, which sounded like it was a very pleasant bonding time. Bud napped for a good ninety minutes at least.

E left after dropping off the load at the new house, and I returned to find friend C chatting with M-lady and Bud snoozing. We all did some more packing, and Bud woke around 5:20 or so. He was a bit groggy when he got up, but after having some apple was much more agreeable. He helped pack for a bit, and then went with me to pick up a pizza for dinner.

He didn't want to eat any pizza on our return, however. I think he was still full from the massive meals he ate over the past two days. In any case, he asked to get down from his chair after having a cup of milk.

He spent some time watching YouTube videos while we did some more packing, and while acting a bit shy of C, eventually gave her a hug when she left for the evening. At about 7:15 I offered Bud a cold hot dog for dinner, which he accepted. He munched away for a bit, eating the entire dog and half the bun. He finished up just in time to start the bedtime routine.

We watched some WordWorld and a Pingu before bed, and the rest of the routine went pretty smoothly. He was in his crib shortly after 8:00, and fell asleep quickly.

New House

Bud woke this morning shortly after 7:00, and I got up with him. He lounged in his crib for a while, and eventually got up to spend some time looking out the window. We eventually got him changed and dressed and headed out to watch some Little Einsteins.

M-lady joined us at about 8:30, and I took my leave to check email and snooze for a little bit. Nanny J arrived as M-lady was changing a poopy diaper (and asking Bud why he didn't let her know like yesterday), and whisked him away to his gymnastics class.

It sounded like they had a good day, with a nap and a bath. M-lady arrived home around 5:00, and Bud was having a snack. He ate a cookie and an entire apple. Nanny J loaded him into the car, then took her leave for the weekend. M-lady brought Bud over to the new house, where I'd been camping out for most of the day dealing with minor fixes, the beginning of a bathroom renovation, and the cleaners.

They arrived around 5:30, and Bud had a good time watching the cleaners, and then running around the big empty house. I walked him around and told him who would be in each room, and which bathroom would be his, etc. He was pretty excited (I was, too).

M-lady had brought paper plates, plastic cups, and paper towels, and we ordered pizza delivered with a two-liter of Coke. Bud doesn't like Coke, so he had water with his pizza. We didn't have any chairs, so we all sat on the floor in the dining room for our first dinner in the house. With Bud eating a couple of pieces by himself, M-lady showing her preggers appetite, and me having missed lunch, we managed to demolish the pizza in short order.

I had brought some Christmas decorations over (I thought we might get a tree if we had time), but we ended up just plugging some of the lights in and stringing them about the mantle and fireplace in the living room.

We spent a while figuring out how to turn all the lights out, locked up, and headed for home around 7:30. We started the bedtime routine when we got home, but Bud wasn't in bed until around 8:30. He was pretty wound up and tried a number of stalling tactics. He was fairly tired after all the running around, though, and fell asleep pretty quickly once we got him into his crib.

Potty In The Morning

Bud slept in this morning until about 8:30, at which point I got up to hang out with him. He bummed around in his crib for a bit, and then let me know that he needed to go potty. We got his diaper off, sat down, and he peed!

I asked him if he was done, and he responded that he needed to poo, too. So we sat and read stories for a bit while we waited. And then, lo and behold, he pooped! Other toddler parents will understand the excitement.

I was just starting to think about getting him cleaned up and dressed when Nanny J arrived and took over. We all told Bud how good it was that he let us know and used the potty. He even told himself, "Good Job!"

It was a busy day for M-lady and me, and we really didn't see much of Bud. We got home a little before 5:00, and were able to hang out with him a little bit, but we headed out to a holiday team dinner for M-lady, so Bud spent the evening with Nanny J. While we were preparing, he trotted up to M-lady to let her know that he and Nanny J were going over to her house for dinner. We told him we were going out to dinner, and he decided that he'd much rather go over to Nanny J's. I think he likes the food there.

He apparently ate a really big dinner, and went to sleep without any problems.

We should close on the house tomorrow, so we'll definitely take a trip over there and let Bud run around the empty place for a while!

Favorite Song

Bud woke this morning briefly at about 4:15, and again at 5:15. I got up to check on him and tuck him back in each time. The second time, he immediately untucked himself, so I figured he wasn't too cold.

At 5:30, he called out again, and asked me to sit with him. I sat with him until about 6:00, at which point I let him know that I was going back to sleep in my own bed, and to give me a call if he needed anything. He must have fallen asleep again on his own.

He proceeded to sleep in this morning until M-lady and Nanny J woke him at 9:00. Apparently when M-lady went in and opened the blinds, Bud immediately grunted, "Close the window!" Sounding like a teenager already.

It sounded like Bud had a pretty good morning, and a good time at school. I took him from Nanny J at about 5:30 when I got home. He was happy to see me, and immediately started dancing. We danced together for a bit for Nanny J, who took her leave bemused with Bud's antics.

Bud and I danced together for a bit, and then played some air band. Bud has gotten very fond of the song Knights of Cydonia by Muse. It's replaced YYZ by Rush. I guess he really likes prog rock. In any case, Knights of Cydonia is a fairly involved song, so playing it air-band-style takes some doing. We played it through about 5 times before I convinced him it was time for dinner.

I was lazy, and Bud had eaten chicken soup for dinner, so I caved when he asked me for a hot dog for dinner. Except he wanted it cold. So he had a cold dog (with a bun) for dinner, and I had a couple of hot dogs. We were just finishing up when M-lady arrived home from work. I got a hot dog together for her, and Bud and I played Knights of Cydonia a couple more times before starting the bedtime routine with some Little Einsteins. The routine was pretty normal, and he went to sleep quickly. Hopefully he'll sleep through the night.

Different Morning Routine

Bud slept in this morning until nearly 8:00. Rather than snooze, he asked to have all his crib items (blankets, pillow, stuffed animals) move to the couch so he could lie down with me there. We pretended to sleep for about 5 minutes before he was ready to head out.

Instead of watching TV right away, we played together a bit. Bud was interested in doing some puzzles, playing some music, and hanging out. Eventually he told me it was time to watch Bob the Builder and have some milk. That took us right up to Nanny J's arrival, at which point Bud joined her in play immediately.

Bud and Nanny J had a good time in the later morning running around at the park. There wasn't anyone practicing Tai Chi, so Bud did some on his own.

Bud took a pretty solid nap today, and had a bath before we got home. M-lady and I were a little late getting home since we were at a late meeting signing the loan papers for the new house. With any luck we'll close on Friday and start moving in next week!

Bud was happy to see us when we got home, and Nanny J took her leave. Bud and I watched a little bit of TV before starting on dinner, which was chicken soup Nanny J had made during the afternoon. Bud ate a lot of chicken and carrots, drank a lot of soup, and then enjoyed a cookie for dessert.

Bud and I played air band for about 30 minutes before we started the bedtime routine. The bedtime routine was pretty standard, with Bob the Builder, milk, cereal, brush teeth, wash face and hands, read story, and into bed. He went to sleep pretty quickly and peacefully.

Inadvertant Nap

Bud woke this morning shortly after 7:00, but was willing to snooze until about 7:30. We got up and watched some Little Einsteins and WordWorld together before M-lady came out at about 8:30. She and Bud played together until Nanny J arrived at 9:00.

It sounded like Bud had a good day, was happy to go to school, and was happy coming home from school. No nap today, but I heard him enjoying his bath when I arrived home a little bit after 4:00.

Bud was very excited by three packages which had arrived. They had been sent by Grandma Nese, and looked as if they might be filled with Christmas gifts. One, in fact, was explicitly labeled with instructions to not open the box until Christmas. So instead of opening the boxes, which Bud was inclined to do, we had a chat about Christmas, and what was coming. I'm not sure Bud was entirely onboard with the idea, but he conceded the immediate opening of the boxes. I think he'll get more into the season when we get a Christmas tree.

After Nanny J left at about 5:30, Bud and I played together for a bit before M-lady arrived home. We played some air band, did his US puzzle again, and then played a little bit of Guitar Hero. When it was time for dinner, Bud had a bit of a meltdown.

I put him in his crib to cool off for a bit, and eventually he quieted down. I asked him to let us know when he was ready for dinner, and after a few minutes of quiet I went to check on him. He had passed out cold. M-lady and I spent the next ten minutes trying to rouse him for dinner. We eventually succeeded, and he ate a PB and J for dinner.

After dinner we had a little more playtime together before we started the bedtime routine. Bud was pretty tired, and fell asleep quickly after a usual routine.

Fun at the Jungle

Bud woke a couple times early this morning: once at about 5:15 and again at about 6:15. The first time I just retrieved his pacifier for him. The second time he wanted me to sit with him for a bit, so I did that, getting back to bed a little after 6:30.

Happy in the ball pit
Bud proceeded to sleep until about 9:00. I got him up and changed, and we all got ready for an outing we'd planned with D and his two kids, K and Dv. We were meeting them at an indoor playground called The Jungle, which is really sort of a giant hamster habitat for kids. Bud was a little nervous at first, but got into the fun of the ball pits pretty quickly. Later he tried running around a bit in the bigger kid areas, and actually did pretty well climbing and working his way around.

Sort of like a hamster
We spent about an hour playing there, and then headed for home as things got a little more crowded. M-lady went out to run some errands, and Bud and I had hot dogs for lunch. After playing together for a bit, and watching a little bit of football, I put Bud down for a nap at about 1:00.

Once again Bud didn't really nap, but he was quiet for a good chunk of the afternoon. He eventually got up with M-lady a little before 3:00, and I found them reading a story together when I woke up from my nap at about 3:30.

Doing some climbing
Bud and I played together, watched some YouTube videos, and had a quick video call with Grandma Nese and Granddad B while Bud was eating his snack. After the call we spent some time cleaning up his playroom, leaving only his self-created drum kit out for play.

Around 5:30, a friend of mine from work, E, arrived for dinner. E is fairly tall, around 6'3", and bearded. Bud was only a little shy, though, and warmed up to E pretty quickly, which was nice. After dinner we sat and chatted while Bud played drums for us.

At about 7:10, we started the bedtime routine with a visibly sleepy Bud. He yawned his way through episodes of Bob the Builder and Pingu, then went to sleep pretty quickly after a slightly abbreviated bedtime routine.

It'll be interesting keeping the boxes packed this week with Bud's tendency to want to open them!

Hyper Time!

Bud woke this morning shortly after 7:00, and M-lady got up with him, which was nice. I heard them watching some Bob the Builder, and playing together a bit afterwards. When I joined them at about 8:30, they were sharing an Eggo.

Bud and I played together for a while, including playing some air band, doing his US states puzzle together, and wrestling him into clothes. He was particularly loathe to get into daytime clothes today, for whatever reason.

A little after 10:00 we headed off to a nearby mall to do a little shopping. M-lady had great success, and Bud and I had fun looking at the stall that sells hermit crabs. They were pretty active, and Bud really enjoyed watching them. I'll have to look into what kind of effort they require for upkeep: it might make a nice step up from goldfish.

We all had lunch together in the mall as well, and Bud enjoyed both M-lady's sandwich and my chicken. After lunch we wandered around a little bit more, picking up an extra sleeper for Bud, since he only has 2 that fit him now (he's in 4t!). We headed for home around 1:00.

Bud and I played some Guitar Hero together before we tired to get him to nap at about 2:00. No luck. He rested for about 45 minutes, but didn't sleep. Oh well. M-lady found Bud and I watching some videos on YouTube when she got up from her nap.

She and Bud played together for a bit and watched some Riverdance while I got some cleaning and packing done. Bud managed to get himself wired shortly after that, though, and we had a super high-energy session of dancing, chasing, wrestling, tickling, and giggling for a while before dinner.

He eventually calmed down for dinner, and ate reasonably well. After dinner we played airband for about fifteen minutes before starting the bedtime routine. He was pretty tired (with no nap and some hyper time), so fell asleep really quickly when we put him down around 7:45.

Spaghetti Night

Bud woke this morning shortly after 7:00, and I got up with him. He was in a pretty good mood, and we watched Bob the Builder together for a while. M-lady came out and relieved me around 8:30, and she shouldered the task of getting Bud dressed and ready to go to gymnastics with Nanny J around 9:00.

Bud had a good time at gymnastics, and I heard his happy return. I saw him around lunchtime, sharing some of Nanny J's lunch. He went down for his nap pretty quickly after lunch: he must have tired himself out at gymnastics.

I saw Bud again around 5:00; he was cleaned up and in his PJs already. M-lady arrived home around 5:30. We found a big package on our doorstep when Nanny J left which had arrived during the day, addressed to M-lady. Bud was really anxious to open the box. He loves opening boxes, even if the items inside aren't for him. We're going to have to tell him about Christmas and how it works soon. He'll love having all the boxes to open.

Bud and I watched a couple of videos on YouTube together, and then when I went to make dinner, Bud transferred to M-lady's lap and directed her on the further videos he wanted to watch.

We had spaghetti for dinner, and Bud ate a pretty sizable portion. He was pretty excited about it, too. We'll have to make spaghetti more often if he likes it that much. He had a cookie and a little bit of chocolate after dinner, and then we played Guitar Hero together until getting started on the bedtime routine.

More Bob the Builder at bedtime, followed by the usual. He no longer wants cereal while watching TV before bed, and he likes to get tucked in now.

I've been thinking about reading to him in the evening. So far we've just read picture books sitting side by side, but I'm starting to considered reading non-picture centric books (like Winnie-the-Pooh) while he's tucked in. It may be that we'll wait until he has a real bed for that, though.

Sushi Tolerant

Bud woke this morning around 7:00, and we got up and watched some Bob the Builder and Little Einsteins. M-lady had an ultrasound appointment shortly after 9:00, so we headed over to that when Nanny J arrived. (Bud's little brother is doing fine.)

Bud had a pretty good day, although apparently a little bit of diarrhea left him with a bad case of diaper rash. He had some painful poops in the evening, and was reportedly walking like a saddle-sore cowboy. Poor kid!

I had a dinner with my team this evening, so didn't get home until Bud was just going to sleep. But he and M-lady had a good evening together. M-lady really wanted sushi for dinner, and after a little cajoling managed to get Bud to agree. They had a nice drive down to the sushi place, and since it was raining Bud got to wear his fireman's jacket. It was a bit of an adventure.

They ate sushi for dinner, and by the time they got home it was about time to start the bedtime routine. I arrived just as M-lady had turned out the lights, and got to say goodnight to Bud. I was happy they had a good evening together.

Dancing At School

Bud woke this morning shortly after 7:00, going back to his usual schedule. I got up with him and we did the usual Bob the Builder with warm milk routine. M-lady took over a little after 8:00. They spent some time looking at photos together on the PC, and generally had a good time before Nanny J arrived.

Bud had a good morning, and I heard him happily banging on drums. I saw him around lunchtime, and again as he left for school. He waved goodbye to me and trotted out the door.

In the afternoon, M-lady and I got an email from Bud's teacher letting us know he busted out the dance moves today, entertaining the entire class. The teachers were impressed with his ability to pick up rhythm in the music, and his lack of self-consciousness while dancing. They managed to get a video of him, but it was a little later, and the video is mostly of him playing air guitar.

M-lady got home a little later this evening, so Bud and I had some time to play together after Nanny J left. Bud was working on his puzzle with all the states in the US. He can do the whole thing without help. And he recognizes the states. He picked up a roughly square piece, with letters and a picture of Mount Rushmore on it, and declared, "South Dakota," putting it in the appropriate spot on the map. It's a pretty impressive display of memory.

We did that for a while, and then watched a few videos on YouTube before starting on dinner when M-lady got home. Bud had a pretty light dinner tonight, and then danced for a bit as M-lady and I finished our dinners.

We started the bedtime routine about 7:20, since he didn't nap again today. He asked for ice cream before we kicked off the routine, and I wasn't going to give him any since he didn't eat much at dinner. But he was so cute. So we shared just a little bit of ice cream.

He once again did not ask for water while going to bed, making the third day in a row. Maybe he's outgrown that stalling technique. He also likes it when i tuck him in with his blanket now, whereas before he used to say it was 'too hot' and forgo the blanket. Not sure if that's because it's colder at night now.

Snoozing

Bud slept in this morning until about 8:30. We were a little flabbergasted (and rested). It was raining this morning, so my theories are the white noise and the lower light level contributed to his late waking.

In any case, I got up with him and we changed a very poopy diaper before going out to watch some Bob the Builder. Nanny J arrived at 9:00, and a moving appraiser arrived at about 9:30 to see how much stuff we had and give us an estimate. Bud was very excited, and danced around quite a bit while the appraiser was here.

Bud and Nanny J had a good day, although Bud didn't nap. He sounded like he had a good bath around 4:30, and was happy for most of the evening as well. We had a nice video call with Granddad B and Grandma Nese, and Bud did a fair bit of jumping around for them.

After the call, we played a quick couple of songs in Guitar Hero before settling down for dinner. Bud ate a lot of vegetables, but skipped the meat this evening. He had a blueberry muffin for dessert.

We all played together a bit before starting the bedtime routine at about 7:20. Bud was getting really tired, but managed to make it through the routine. He didn't ask for water after I turned out the light for the second night in a row; it's been a pretty standard request for the past couple of months. I'm not sure if he was just too tired, or has decided it's an unnecessary accoutrement.

Muffins and Eggnog

Bud woke this morning around 7:30, and I got up with him.M-lady joined us a little bit after 8:00, and I got ready for a morning dentist appointment. Bud seemed to be his usual, low-key morning self. The two of them watched some videos on PC and hung out together for a bit before Nanny J arrived.

He was happily playing with Nanny J when I returned from the dentist a little after 10:00, and I heard him head off for school shortly after noon. It sounded like it was a good day.

He was a bit upset by his bath at about 4:00, but was clean and happy when I went out to see him at about 5:30. He had Nanny J and I both do the Russian Dance with him for a while before Nanny J left for the evening.

We then watched a little bit of Riverdance, and M-lady joined him when she arrived home as I dashed out to head to the grocery store. They were eating dinner when I returned.

Bud was really excited to see the blueberry muffin mix as I unloaded it from the grocery bags, and asked to have some muffins. We had to explain that it was mix, and so he asked if we could make muffins. So M-lady made blueberry muffins with Bud.

They had a wonderful time, and Bud really enjoyed helping out. M-lady managed to keep muffin mix out of his hair and off of the floor, so the event was a success. And Bud even enjoyed watching them bake.

When the muffins were ready, he sat in his chair and snarfed a couple. I had also purchased eggnog at the store, and asked if he wanted to try some. He was a little confused, since it came out of a milk carton, and he kept thinking it was milk. He eventually ended up calling it 'a different kind of milk'. But he did like it, and had a bit with his muffins.

Since the muffins had taken a while, we had a shortened bedtime routine. We watched a short episode of Bob the Builder, and Bud decided to skip the toothbrushing. He was in bed by about 8:10, and asleep shortly thereafter.

Helping Out

Bud woke this morning around 7:00, and I got up with him. We watched a little bit of Bob the Builder together until about 8:00, when M-lady joined us. Bud and M-lady watched some videos on the PC while I snoozed for a bit longer. Bud apparently had two eggos and a big poop while I slept.

After I joined them again, Bud and I had a nice chat with Grandma W and Granddad B, and then packed up and went out to buy some boxes for our upcoming move. Bud was really well behaved, and even wanted to help carry the boxes.

When we got home, I had some yard work to do, and Bud helped me for a while before getting a little fussy. He headed inside for a bit and had lunch with M-lady, and then came out to help M-lady scrape berries off the front walk. We have a nice tree over the sidewalk in front of our house that drops a ton of berries each winter which get squished underfoot and have to be scraped and swept up periodically.

When they finished up with that, Bud joined me as I worked to repair a section of our fence. After we got the fence mended, we dug up an offending bush (which had helped pull the fence over in the first place). Bud was very helpful, pulling out branches and throwing them into the yard waste bucket. He was also very excited to see all the snails and bugs.

We came in near 3:00, and after cleaning Bud up a little bit we put him down for a nap. I worked in the garage for a while, and M-lady tended to Bud's request to go potty after he lay in his crib for a while. After successfully using the potty, he went back to his crib under mild protest, and promptly fell asleep.

He napped for about two hours, at which time we got him up for dinner. He was slow getting up, but eventually ate a solid meal. He eschewed his green beans at first, but then had a good time opening them up and eating the little beans inside.

After dinner we each had a petit four, and then headed for the shower. Bud and I had a good shower together, although we ran out of hot water at the very end. He ran around naked for a few minutes before we tracked him down and got him into PJs to start the bedtime routine.

The No-Nap Routine

Bud woke this morning around 7:15, and M-lady got up with him, which was really nice. They watched some Bob the Builder, read some stories, did Tai Chi, and played a little bit of air band. They woke me at about 9:00, and I took over while M-lady napped for a bit.

Bud and I cooked and ate pretend soup, played air band, and then settled into a bit of Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Eventually we quit the games to get dressed and get ready to go out around lunchtime.

With M-lady, we headed down to a mall near our new house to explore a little bit. It's a small mall, but it has a lot of useful stores, including a Target. We all walked around for a bit, and then split up so M-lady could shop for some maternity clothes. Bud and I wandered a bit.

Bud was pretty scared of the 'picture with Santa' setup. I'm not sure if it was the big nutcrackers, or Santa himself, but he really didn't like that scene. We avoided it, and I assured him we weren't going to make him take his picture with Santa.

We all had lunch at Johnny Rocket's. Bud was a little disappointed that there wasn't an actual rocket involved, but ate a good lunch anyways. After lunch we wandered the part of the mall we hadn't seen yet, and we all shared an Orange Julius as a treat. Bud liked it quite a bit.

We headed home around 1:00, but Bud wasn't sufficiently tired, so we dropped M-lady off and headed for a local park. Bud had a good time on the playground, running around, climbing, and generally tiring himself out. We had a really good time on the swings, too, and he went higher than he had before. We left at about 2:30, heading home for a nap.

I put Bud down for his nap about 3:00. The usual routine followed: quiet for twenty minutes, call out, quiet for another twenty minutes, call out asking to go to the potty. We sat on the potty for a while, without success, and Bud declares he's ready to go play. Without a nap.

Fortunately, M-lady was getting up from her nap around this time, so I could zonk out for a little bit while they played together. They had a snack, played some drums, and did more Tai Chi, which they showed me when I got up.

Bud and I played a bit more together before our babysitter for the evening arrived, Friend T, and he was clearly starting to get a little cranky. He definitely still needs to nap, but doesn't want to. We'll have to figure out a way to break his non-napping pattern.

M-lady got dinner ready for Bud while I got his room and the TV set for his bedtime routine. He was happily munching away with Friend T when M-lady and I slipped out to catch the latest Cirque Du Soleil show up in the city.

Bud apparently was very well behaved for Friend T, did the bedtime routine without complaint, and passed out around 7:30. He clearly needed his nap. Hopefully he won't wake up early tomorrow.

In other news, the contingencies are off the new house, so I guess we'll be moving to escrow shortly...
